1On Calculations of Legendre Functions and Associated Legendre Functions of the First Kind of Complex Degree显示文摘Formulas for calculating Legendre functions and associated Legendre functions of the first kind of complex degree using an Ermakov–Lewis invariant are presented. These formulas are straight-forward to implement numerically and are motivated by the lack of computational routines in standard university tools like those of Mat Lab and Maple.Angular waves propagating in opposite directions are also obtained. 3Sternal metastasis-the forgotten column and its effect on thoracic spine stability显示文摘Sternal metastases are not studied extensively in the literature. There is a paucity of information on their role in metastatic disease. The concept of the fourth column was described by Berg in 1993, and has been proven in case report, clinically and biomechanical studies. The role of the sternum as a support to the thoracic spine is well documented in the trauma patients, but not much is known about its role in cancer patients. This review examines what is known on the role of the fourth column. Following this we have identified two likely scenarios that sternal metastases may impact management:(1) sternal pathological fracture increases the mobility of the semi-rigid thorax with the loss of the biomechanical support of the sternum-rib-thoracic spine complex; and(2) a sternal metastasis increases the risk of fracture, and while being medical treated the thoracic spine should be monitored for acute kyphosis and neurological injury secondarily to the insufficiency of the fourth column.Robert Pearse Piggott Mark Curtin Sudarshan Munigangaiah Mutaz Jadaan John Patrick McCabe Aiden Devitt 2017World Journal of Orthopedics2017,8,6:0
4Best practices for measurement and impact on performance evaluation for novel carbon-utilization process technologies显示文摘The NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE-a$20 million prize competition focused on the development and scaling of innovative carbon-capture and-utilization technologies-placed credible data at the forefront of its scoring and ranking approach for the selection of prize-winners.To guarantee the quality of the submitted data,independent third-party verifiers reviewed each candidate technology and data set.While the Carbon XPRIZE contenders demonstrated a variety of CO_(2)-utilization technologies at various levels of technical maturity and scale,it was found that early evaluation of the impact of measurements on process performance parameters via sensitivity analysis should influence the selection of instruments that have appropriate accuracy.In addition to appropriate accuracy,this assessment can lead to reduced costs associated with instrumentation rather than simply buying the‘best’instrument while simultaneously ensuring that uncertainties are kept as low as possible.With proper pre-planning,good engineering practice and good measurement practice,it is possible to optimize uncertainty against the costs and usability of instrumentation and data systems.Tim Hansen Kevin McCabe Bill Chatterton Michael Leitch Patrick Woolcock 2021Clean Energy2021,5,4:0
5Note on Resonant and Non-resonant Peaks in Electron-Atom Total Scattering Cross Sections显示文摘Certain broad low-energy peaks caused by a single partial wave in total cross sections are explained in terms of phase shifts. Such peaks have been associated with the real part of a Regge pole trajectory, having a maximum near an integer value of the angular momentum quantum number. At the peak energies, the pertinent partial-wave phase shift was shown to have a local maximum near a value π/2 modulo π. This implies no time delay in the semiclassical context.
