An overview on antidiabetic medicinal plants having insulin mimetic property显示文摘Diabetes mellitus is one of the common metabolic disorders acquiring around 2.8%of the world's population and is anticipated to cross 5.4%by the year 2025.Since long back herbal medicines have been the highly esteemed source of medicine therefore, they have become a growing part of modern,high-tech medicine. In view of the above aspects the present review provides profiles of plants(65 species) with hypoglycaemic properties, available through literature source from various database with proper categorization according to the parts used, mode of reduction in blood glucose(insulinomimetic or insulin secretagugues activity) and active phyloconsliluents having insulin mimetics activity. From the review it was suggested that, plant showing hypoglycemic potential mainly belongs to the family Leguminoseae,Lamiaceae,Liliaceae,Cucurbitaceae, Asteraceae,Moraceae,Rosaceae and Araliaceae. The most active plants are Allium sativum. Gymnema sylvestre,Citrullus colocynthis,Trigonella foenum greacum,Momordica charantia and Ficuts bengalensis. The review describes some new bioactive drugs and isolated compounds from plants such as roseoside, epigallocatechin gallate,beta-pyrazol-1-ylalanine,cinchonain Ib,leucocyandin 3-O-beta-d-galactosyl cellobioside,leucopelargonidin-3- O-alpha-L rhamuoside, glycyrrhetinic acid, dehydrotrametenolic acid, strictinin, isostrictinin, pedunculagin, epicatechin and christinin-A showing significant insulinomimetic and antidiabetic activity with more efficacy than conventional hypoglycaemic agents. Thus, from the review majorly, the antidiabetic activity of medicinal plants is attributed to the presence of polyphenols, flavonoida, terpenoids, coumarins and other constituents which show reduction in blood glucose levels. The review also discusses the management aspect of diabetes mellitus using these plants and their active principles. | Patel DK Prasad SK Kumar R Hemalatha S | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,4: | 15
Pedalium murex Linn(Pedaliaceae) fruits:a comparative antioxidant activity of its different fractions显示文摘Objective:To examine the antioxidant activity and total phenolic content of different solvent fractions of Pedulium murex(P.murex)Linn fruits(Family:Pedaliaceae)as well as the correlation between the total antioxidant capacity and total phenolic content. Methods:In the present study, the antioxidant activities of P.murex were evaluated using six in-vitro assays, namely total antioxidant assay,DPPH assay, reducing power, nitric oxide scavenging, hydrogen peroxide scavenging and deoxyribose scavenging assays, and total phenol contents were also investigated. Results:The ethyl acetate(EA)fraction was found to have high levels of phenolic content(298.72±2.09 mg GAE/g).The EA fraction exhibit higher total antioxidant capacity, higher percentage of DPPH radical scavenging activity(135.11±2.95μg/mL),nitric oxide(200.57±4.5lμg/mL),hydrogen peroxide(2I7.91±6.12μg/mL),deoxyribose(250.01±4.68μg/mL)and higher reducing power.Correlation coefficient(r^2=0.914)was found to be significant between total phenolic content and total antioxidant activity. Conclusions:In general, the results indicate that the EA fractions are rich in phenolic antioxidants with potent free radical scavenging activity implying their importance to human health. | DK Patel R Kumar SK Prasad S Hemalatha | 2011 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011,1,5: | 12
Transarterial chemoembolization for liver metastases from solid pseudopapillary epithelial neoplasm of pancreas: A case report显示文摘Solid pseudo-papillary epithelial neoplasm(SPEN) is a rare epithelial tumor of pancreas with a low malignant potential occurs most commonly in young females. We report a case of 40 years old woman presented withextensive liver metastasis from SPEN of pancreatic body for which she was operated four years ago. Due to the extensive nature of metastatic disease she was offered Transarterial chemoembolisation(TACE) using gemcitabine as chemotherapeutic agent. Short term follow up after a month of TACE with multiphase computed tomography showed > 90% resolution in the viable tumor with significant clinical improvement. TACE ensures targeted delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs in higher doses with least systemic toxicity and is more effective and safe than systemic chemotherapy. TACE with gemcitabine was found to be very effective in our patient with numerous liver metastasis. | TV Prasad KS Madhusudhan Deep N Srivastava Nihar R Dash Arun K Gupta | 2015 | World Journal of Radiology2015,7,3: | 5

Methods:The naturally occurring xanthone glycoside mangiferin was isolated by column chromatography from the elhanolic extract of stem bark of Mangifera indica.Mangiferin was further converted to 5-(N-phenylamino methyleno) mangiferin.5-(N-p-chlorophenylamino methyleno) mangiferin,5-(N-2-methyl phenylamino methyleno) mangiferin.5-(N-p-methoxy phenylamino methyleno) mangiferin.5-(N,N-diphenylamino methyleno) mangiferin,5-(N-α-napthylamino methyleno) mangiferin and 5-(N-4-methyl phenylamino methyleno) mangiferin analogues. The synthesized compounds were further screened for antipyretic activity along with mangiferin at a dose level of 100 and 200 tng/kg.Mangiferin and its analogues were characterized by melting point and R_f value determination and through spectral technique like UV,IR,and NMR spectral analysis. Results:The antipyretic activity of mangiferin as well as all analogues was found to be more significant in at higher dose ie.200 mg/kg which was depicted thmugh a decrease in rectal temperature up to 3 h.Conclusions:The antipyretic activity of mangiferin and its analogues may be attributed to inhibition in synthesis of TNF-αand anti-oxidant activity associated with amelioration of inflammatory actions of cytokines. | Shashi Kant Singh Saurabh K Sinha SK Prasad R Kumar Bhawani S Bithu S Sadish Kumar P Singh | 2011 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,11: | 4 |
Kidney exchange transplantation current status, an update and future perspectives显示文摘Kidney exchange transplantation is well established modality to increase living donor kidney transplantation. Reasons for joining kidney exchange programs are ABO blood group incompatibility, immunological inco-mpatibility(positive cross match or donor specific antibody), human leukocyte antigen(HLA) incompa-tibility(poor HLA matching), chronological incompa-tibility and financial incompatibility. Kidney exchange transplantation has evolved from the traditional si-multaneous anonymous 2-way kidney exchange to more complex ways such as 3-way exchange, 4-way exchange, n -way exchange, compatible pair, non-simult-aneous kidney exchange,non-simultaneous extended altruistic donor, never ending altruistic donor, kidney exchange combined with desensitization, kidney ex-change combined with ABO incompatible kidney tr-ansplantation, acceptable mismatch transplant, use of A2 donor to O patients, living donor-deceased donor list exchange, domino chain, non-anonymous kidney exchange, single center, multicenter, regional, National, International and Global kidney exchange. Here we discuss recent advances in kidney exchanges such as International kidney exchange transplantation in a gl-obal environment, three categories of advanced dona-tion program, deceased donors as a source of chain initiating kidneys, donor renege myth or reality, pros and cons of anonymity in developed world and(non-) anonymity in developing world, pros and cons of donor travel vs kidney transport, algorithm for management of incompatible donor-recipient pairs and pros and cons of Global kidney exchange. The participating transplant teams and donor-recipient pairs should make the decision by consensus about kidney donor travel vskidney transport and anonymity vs non-anonymity in allocation as per local resources and logistics. Future of organ transplantation in resource-limited setting will be liver vs kidney exchange, a legitimate hope or utopia? | Vivek B Kute Narayan Prasad Pankaj R Shah Pranjal R Modi | 2018 | World Journal of Transplantation2018,8,3: | 2
Novel diet-related mouse model of colon cancer parallels human colon cancer显示文摘AIM:To investigate the close parallels between our novel diet-related mouse model of colon cancer and human colon cancer.METHODS:Twenty-two wild-type female mice(ages 6-8 wk)were fed the standard control diet(AIN-93G)and an additional 22 female mice(ages 6-8 wk)were fed the control diet supplemented with 0.2%deoxycho-lic acid[diet+deoxycholic acid(DOC)]for 10 mo.Tu-mors occurred in the colons of mice fed diet+DOC and showed progression to colon cancer[adenocarcinoma(AC)].This progression is through the stages of tubular adenoma(TA),TA with high grade dysplasia or ad-enoma with sessile serrated morphology, intramucosal AC,AC stage T1,and AC stage T2.The mouse tumors were compared to human tumors at the same stages by histopathological analysis.Sections of the small and large intestines of mice and humans were evaluated for glandular architecture, cellular and nuclear morphology including cellular orientation, cellular and nuclear atyp-ia,pleomorphism,mitotic activity, frequency of goblet cells, crypt architecture, ulceration, penetration of crypts through the muscularis mucosa and presence of malignant crypts in the muscularis propria. In addition, preserved colonic tissues from genetically similar male mice, obtained from a prior experiment, were analyzed by immunohistochemistry. The male mice had been fed the control diet or diet+DOC.Four molecular markers were evaluated:8-OH-dG,DNA repair protein ERCC1,autophagy protein beclin-1 and the nuclear location of beta-catenin in the stem cell region of crypts. Also, male mice fed diet+DOC plus 0.007%chlorogenic acid(diet+DOC+CGA)were evaluated for ERCC1,beclin-1 and nuclear location of beta-catenin.RESULTS:Humans with high levels of diet-relatedDOC in their colons are at a substantially increased riskof developing colon cancer. The mice fed diet+DOChad levels of DOC in their colons comparable to that ofhumans on a high fat diet. The 22 mice without addedDOC in their diet had no colonic tumors while 20 ofthe 22 mice(91%)fed diet+DOC developed colonictumors.Furthermore, the tumors in 10 of these mice(45%of mice)included an adenocarcinoma. All micewere free of cancers of the small intestine.Histopatho-logically,the colonic tumor types in the mice werevirtually identical to those in humans. In humans,char-acteristic aberrant changes in molecular markers can be detected both in field defects surrounding cancers(from which cancers arise)and within cancers. In thecolonic tissues of mice fed diet+DOC similar changesin biomarkers appeared to occur.Thus,8-OH-dG wasincreased,DNA repair protein ERCC1 was decreased, autophagy protein beclin-1 was increased and,in thestem cell region at the base of crypts there was sub-stantial nuclear localization of beta-catenin as well asincreased cytoplasmic beta-catenin.However,in micefed diet+DOC+CGA(with reduced frequency ofcancer)and evaluated for ERCC1,beclin-1,and beta-catenin in the stem cell region of crypts, mouse tissueshowed amelioration of the aberrancies, suggestingthat chlorogenic acid is protective at the molecular levelagainst colon cancer. This is the first diet-related modelof colon cancer that closely parallels human progressionto colon cancer, both at the histomorphological level aswell as in its molecular profile.CONCLUSION:The diet-related mouse model of coloncancer parallels progression to colon cancer in humans, and should be uniquely useful in model studies of pre-vention and therapeutics. | Anil R Prasad Shilpa Prasad Huy Nguyen Alexaner Facista Cristy Lewis Beryl Zaitlin Harris Bernstein Carol Bernstein | 2014 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2014,6,7: | 2
