| 1 | Disease Risks of Childhood Obesity in China显示文摘Objective To estimate the relative risks of dyslipidemia, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and metabolic syndromes among overweight and obese Chinese children compared with their normal weight counterparts. Methods Overweight and obesity were defined by age- and sex-specific BMI classification reference for Chinese children and adolescents. Pediatric metabolic syndrome (MetS) and each risk factor for MetS were defined using the criteria for US adolescents. Definition of hyper-TC, LDL, and dyslipidemia for adults was applied as well. General linear model factor analysis and chi-square test were used to compare the difference in metabolic indicators among normal weight, overweight, and obese groups. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to estimate the odds ratio of metabolic abnormalities between obesity, overweight, and normal weight children, after adjustment for living area, family economic level, age, sex, and daily exercise time and TV watching time, as well as different dietary indices in the model. Results Significant increases in blood lipids, glucose, and blood pressure were found among overweight and obese children as compared with their counterparts with normal weight. By applying WGOC-recommended BMI classification, the risks for hypertriglyceridemia, low HDL and dyslipidemia among overweight children were 1.9, 1.4, and 1.5 times, and was 3.3, 1.5, and 1.8 times among obese groups compared to their counterparts with normal weight after adjustment for age, sex, region, socioeconomic status, physical activity, and dietary intakes. The overweight and obese children (15-17.9 years) had a high-risk of developing hypertension, which was 2.3 and 2.9times higher than their counterparts with normal weight. Above 90% obese adolescents had abdominal obesity, while less than1% normal weight ones had abdominal obesity. No obese adolescents were free from any risk factors for MetS, while 36.9% of normal weight adolescents were from the risk factors. 83.3% obese boys and all obese girls had metabolic syndrome, while only15.5% normal weight boys and 18.8% normal weight girls had metabolic syndrome. Four risk factors for metabolic syndrome were found in 8.3% obese boys while none in normal weight boys and girls. The prevalence of MetS among normal weight,overweight, and obesity groups was 1.5%, 18.3%, and 38.1% respectively. Conclusion The cardiovascular disease (CVD)risk factors are clustered in obese Chinese children. | 2 | Altered trends in carbon uptake in China’s terrestrial ecosystems under the enhanced summer monsoon and warming hiatus显示文摘The carbon budgets in terrestrial ecosystems in China are strongly coupled with climate changes.Over the past decade,China has experienced dramatic climate changes characterized by enhanced summer monsoon and decelerated warming.However,the changes in the trends of terrestrial net ecosystem production(NEP)in China under climate changes are not well documented.Here,we used three ecosystem models to simulate the spatiotemporal variations in China's NEP during 1982–2010 and quantify the contribution of the strengthened summer monsoon and warming hiatus to the NEP variations in four distinct climatic regions of the country.Our results revealed a decadal-scale shift in NEP from a downtrend of–5.95 Tg C/yr^2(reduced sink)during 1982–2000 to an uptrend of 14.22 Tg C/yr^2(enhanced sink)during 2000–10.This shift was essentially induced by the strengthened summer monsoon,which stimulated carbon uptake,and the warming hiatus,which lessened the decrease in the NEP trend.Compared to the contribution of 56.3%by the climate effect,atmospheric CO2 concentration and nitrogen deposition had relatively small contributions(8.6 and 11.3%,respectively)to the shift.In conclusion,within the context of the global-warming hiatus,the strengthening of the summer monsoon is a critical climate factor that enhances carbon uptake in China due to the asymmetric response of photosynthesis and respiration.Our study not only revealed the shift in ecosystem carbon sequestration in China in recent decades,but also provides some insight for understanding ecosystem carbon dynamics in other monsoonal areas. | Honglin He Shaoqiang Wang Li Zhang Junbang Wang Xiaoli Ren Lei Zhou Shilong Piao Hao Yan Weimin Ju Fengxue Gu Shiyong Yu Yuanhe Yang Miaomiao Wang Zhongen Niu Rcmg Ge Huimin Yan Mei Huang Guoyi Zhou Yongfei Bai Zongqiang Xie Zhiyao Tang Bingfang Wu Leiming Zhang Nianpeng He Qiufeng Wang Guirui Yu | 2019 | National Science Review2019,6,3: | 24 |

| 5 | Celastrol induces ferroptosis in activated HSCs to ameliorate hepatic fibrosis via targeting peroxiredoxins and HO-1显示文摘Ferroptosis is a form of regulated cell death, characterized by excessive membrane lipid peroxidation in an iron-and ROS-dependent manner. Celastrol, a natural bioactive triterpenoid extracted from Tripterygium wilfordii, shows effective anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory activities in multiple hepatic diseases. However, the exact molecular mechanisms of action and the direct protein targets of celastrol in the treatment of liver fibrosis remain largely elusive. Here, we discover that celastrol exerts anti-fibrotic effects via promoting the production of reactive oxygen species(ROS) and inducing ferroptosis in activated hepatic stellate cells(HSCs). By using activity-based protein profiling(ABPP) in combination with bio-orthogonal click chemistry reaction and cellular thermal shift assay(CETSA), we show that celastrol directly binds to peroxiredoxins(PRDXs), including PRDX1, PRDX2, PRDX4 and PRDX6,through the active cysteine sites, and inhibits their anti-oxidant activities. Celastrol also targets to heme oxygenase 1(HO-1) and upregulates its expression in activated-HSCs. Knockdown of PRDX1, PRDX2,PRDX4, PRDX6 or HO-1 in HSCs, to varying extent, elevated cellular ROS levels and induced ferroptosis. | 6 | Relationship between genetic polymorphism of cytochrome P450IIE1 and fatty liver显示文摘AIM: To study the correlation between genetic polymorphism of cytochrome P450IIE1 (CYPIIE1) and fatty liver.METHODS: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells were collected in 56 patients with fatty liver, 26 patients without fatty liver and 20 normal controls. Then PCR-RFLP was used to analyze genetic polymorphism of CYPIIE1 in monocytes on the region of Pst I and Rsa I.RESULTS: The frequency of homozygotic C1 gene in patients with alcoholic fatty liver (28.6 %), obese fatty liver (38.5 %), or diabetic fatty liver (33.3 %) was significantly lower than that of the corresponding patients without fatty liver (100 %, 100 % and 80 % respectively), while the frequency of C2 genes, including C1/C2 and C2/C2, was significantly higher (71.4 %/0 %, 61.5 %/0 %, and 66.7 %/20 %) (P<0.01). The frequency distribution of the above genes of non-fatty liver patients (100 %/0, 100 %/0, and 80 %/20 %) was not significantly different from that of the normal controls (85 %/15 %) (P>0.05).CONCLUSION: The genetic polymorphism of CYPIIE1 on the position of Pst I and Rsa I is related to the susceptibility of fatty liver. | 7 | Inhibitory effect of all-trans retinoic acid on human hepatocellular carcinoma cell proliferation显示文摘AIM: To study the inhibitory effect of all-trans retinoic acid on human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line SMMC-7721and to explore the mechanism of its effect.METHODS: SMMC-7721 cells were divided into two groups, one treated with all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) for 5 days and the other as a control group. Light microscope and electron microscope were used to observe the morphological changes. Telomerase activity was analyzed with silver-stained telomere repeated assay protocal (TRAP). Expression of Caspase-3 was demonstrated with western blot.RESULTS: ATRA-treated cells showed differentiation features including small and pyknotic nuclei, densely stained chromatin and fewer microvilli. The distant bottom reverberation level and spatial coherence of impulsive source are both derived. The results agree with those from the classical reverberation model, and are compared with the experimental data. The influence of source bandwidth and the distance between sources and receivers on the intensity of bottom reverberation are particularly discussed. | 11 | Relatively High Bone Mineral Density in Chinese Adolescent Dancers Despite Lower Energy Intake and Menstrual Disorder显示文摘Objective The effect of dietary restriction, intense exercise and menstrual dysfunction on bone mineral density remains controversial. The aim of this study was to assess the skeletal health status and relationship between bone mineral density and nutrient intake, menstrual status, estrogen level and other factos in Chinese adolescent dancers. Methods Sixty dancers and 77 healthy controls underwent measurements of bone density, body composition, and estrogen level. Nutrient intake, menstrual status and physical activity were assessed with questionnaires. The correlation between these factors were analyzed. Results The dancers under study had a significantly lean body mass index (18.3±1.4 kg/m2 vs. 21.7±3.1 kg/m2), lower percentage of body fat (0.25±0.05 vs. 0.34±0.04) and later age at menarche (14.0±0.9 y vs. 13.0±1.3 y), and the estrogen level, daily calorie and fat intake in them were also lower than in the controls. All the dancers undertook intensive physical activity every day and up to 69% of them suffered from irregular menarche. Yet they had relatively high BMD and BMC of the total body and legs than the controls after adjusting for BMI and age. Site-specific BMD was positively correlated to BMI, body composition and training hours per week and negatively correlated to the age at menarche and menstrual frequency. Conclusions The relatively high BMD and BMC of the dancers at the total body and legs were probably caused by high levels of weight-bearing physical activity. This new process is intended for the manufacture of large-size forged tubular components with branches on middle-due press. Experiments are carried out and processing parameters are obtained regarding the shear-extrusion process of a large-size shutoff valve body. Daformation and metal flow in the shear-extrusion process are inves- tigated. In orber to verify the laborsaving characteristic of this new process some contrastive experiments of extrusion force are performed between shear-extrusion and upsetting-extrusion for forming tubular components with branches. Based on rigid plastic FEM a plane-stain model is established to analyze shear-extrusion process of tubular components with branches. The analysis results by 2-dimensions PEM are comparatively quite well consistent with those of experiments. | 15 | Changes in Activities of Glutamine Synthetase during Grain Filling and Their Relation to Rice Quality显示文摘Four japonica rice varieties differed in cooking and eating qualities were used in a pot experiment to study the relationship between the activities of glutamine synthetase during grain filling and rice quality. The activities of glutamine synthetase gradually increased and then declined as a single peak curve in the course of grain filling. The 15th day after heading was a turning point, before which the enzymatic activities in the inferior rice varieties with high protein content were higher than those in the superior rice varietie with low protein content, and after which it was converse. The activity of glutamine synthetase in grain was correlated with the taste meter value, peak viscosity and breakdown negatively at the early stage of grain filling whereas positively at the middle and late stages. Moreover, it was correlated with the protein content of rice grain and setback positively at the early stage and negatively at the middle and late stages. The correlation degree varied with the course of grain filling. | 16 | Deciphering impacts of climate extremes on Tibetan grasslands in the last fifteen years显示文摘Climate extremes have emerged as a crucial driver of changes in terrestrial ecosystems. The Tibetan Plateau, facing a rapid climate change, tends to favor climate extremes. But we lack a clear understanding of the impacts of such extremes on alpine grasslands. Here we show that extreme events(drought,extreme wet, extreme cold and extreme hot) occurred at a frequency of 0.67–4 months decade^(-1) during2001–2015, with extreme precipitation predominantly occurring in June-to-August and extreme temperatures in May. Drought and extreme wet cause opposite and asymmetric effects on grassland growth,with drought-induced reductions greater than increases due to extreme wet. Grassland responses to extreme temperatures, which predominantly occur in May, show a dipole-like spatial pattern, with extreme hot(cold) events enhanced(reduced) growth in the eastern plateau but slightly reduced(enhanced) growth in the western plateau. These opposite responses to extreme temperatures over the eastern plateau are explained by the possibility that the occurrence of extreme cold slows the preseason temperature accumulation, delaying the triggering of spring phenology, while extreme hot hastens the accumulation. In the western plateau, in contrast, positive responses to extreme cold are induced by accompanying high precipitation. Furthermore, high extremeness of climate events generally led to a much lower extremeness in growth response, implying that the Tibetan grasslands have a relatively high resistance to climate extremes. | 17 | Molecular characteristics of Brucella melitensis isolates from humans in Qinghai Province, China显示文摘Background:The prevalence of human brucellosis in Qinghai Province of China has been increasing rapidly,with confirmed cases distributed across 31 counties.However,the epidemiology of brucellosis transmission has not been fully elucidated.To characterize the infecting strains isolated from humans,multiple-locus variable-number tandem repeats analysis(MLVA)and whole-genome single-nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)-based approaches were employed.Methods:Strains were isolated from two males blood cultures that were confirmed Brucella m elitensis positive following biotyping and MLVA.Genomic DNA was extracted from these two strains,and whole-genome sequencing was performed.Next,SNP-based phylogenetic analysis was performed to compare the two strains to 94 B.melitensis strains(complete genome and draft genome)retrieved from online databases.Results:The two Brucella isolates were identified as B.melitensis biovar 3(QH2019001 and QH2019005)following conventional biotyping and were found to have differences in their variable number tandem repeats(VNTRs)using MLVA-16.Phylogenetic examination assigned the 96 strains to five genotype groups,with QH2019001 and QH2019005 assigned to the same group,but different subgroups.Moreover,the QH2019005 strain was assigned to a new subgenotype,llj,within genotype II.These findings were then combined to determine the geographic origin of the two Brucella strains.Conclusions:Utilizing a whole-genome SNP-based approach enabled differences between the two B.m elitensis strains to be more clearly resolved,and facilitated the elucidation of their different evolutionary histories.This approach also revealed that QH2019005 is a member of a new subgenotype(Hj)with an ancient origin in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. | Zhi-Jun Zhao Ji-Quan Li Li Ma Hong-Mei Xue Xu-Xin Yang Yuan-Bo Zhao Yu-Min Qin Xiao-Wen Yang Dong-Ri Piao Hong-Yan Zhao Guo-Zhong Tian Qiang LiJian-Ling Wang Guang Tian Hai Jiang Li-Qing Xu | 2021 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2021,10,2: | 5 |
| 18 | Viscoelasticity of repaired sciatic nerve by poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) tubes显示文摘Medical-grade synthetic poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) polymer can be used as a biomaterial for nerve repair because of its good biocompatibility,biodegradability and adjustable degradation rate.The stress relaxation and creep properties of peripheral nerve can be greatly improved by repair with poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) tubes.Ten sciatic nerve specimens were harvested from fresh corpses within 24 hours of death,and were prepared into sciatic nerve injury models by creating a 10 mm defect in each specimen.Defects were repaired by anastomosis with nerve autografts and poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) tubes.Stress relaxation and creep testing showed that at 7 200 seconds,the sciatic nerve anastomosed by poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) tubes exhibited a greater decrease in stress and increase in strain than those anastomosed by nerve autografts.These findings suggest that poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) exhibits good viscoelasticity to meet the biomechanical requirements for a biomaterial used to repair sciatic nerve injury. | Chengdong Piao Peng Li Guangyao Liu Kun Yang | 2013 | Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,33: | 4 |
| 19 | Total Energy Expenditure of 16 Chinese Young Men Measured by the Doubly Labeled Water Method显示文摘Objective Doubly labeled water (DLW) method is the gold standard for measuring total energy expenditure (TEE). We used this method to measure TEE in Chinese young men. Methods Sixteen healthy young men age 23±1 years with body mass index 22.0±1.4 kg/m 2 were recruited. TEE was measured by the DLW method, and basal energy expenditure (BEE) was determined by indirect calorimetry. We also conducted 24-h activity, energy balance and factorial approach to estimate energy requirements of the subjects. Results TEE of subjects by DLW method was 9.45±0.57 MJ/day (2258±180 kcal/day). The 24-h activity was 10.80±0.33 MJ/day (2582±136 kcal/day). The energy requirement, derived from energy balance observations, was 9.93±1.32 MJ/day (2373±315 kcal/day). The BEE of 6.65±0.28 MJ/day (1589±67 kcal/day), calculated by the adjusted Schofield equation, was significantly higher (P<0.001) than that measured by indirect calorimetry, 5.99±0.66 MJ/day (1433±158 kcal/day). The TEE derived from the factorial approach was 10.31±0.43 MJ/day (2463±104 kcal/day). Conclusion The TEE of Chinese young men measured by the DLW method was about 10% lower than the current recommended nutrient intake (RNI), suggesting that the RNI for Chinese men maybe overestimated. | 20 | Association between Adiponectin and Metabolic Syndrome in Older Adults from Major Cities of China显示文摘Objective To investigate the association between adiponectin and metabolic syndrome (MetS) and related diseases in older adults from major cities of China.Methods A total of 2 049 adults at the age of 60-96 years from 18 major cities of China were enrolled in the study.Plasma adiponectin and insulin concentrations were measured.Insulin resistance was assessed by homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR).The definitions proposed by International Diabetes Federation (IDF)and American Heart Association/National Heart,Lung,and Blood Institute (AHA/NLHBI)were used to identify MetS.Results The adiponectin concentration increased with the advance of age and was higher in women than in men.The sex specific adiponectin concentration was inversely correlated with body mass index(BMI),waist circumference,diastolic blood pressure,triglycerides,glucose and fasting blood insulin,and positively correlated with HDL-C(P<0.001).The adiponectin concentration decreased with increasing MetS components.Compared with the 4th sex-specific adiponectin quartile,the odds ratio(OR)for prevalent MetS-IDF and MetS-AHA/NLHBI in subjects of the 1st quartile group was 3.25(95% CI:2.24,4.71)and 3.21(95% CI:2.26,4.55),respectively.The association was independent of age,sex,life-style factors,medication,family history of chronic diseases,BMI,and HOMA-IR.The OR for MetS was much higher than those of MetS components and its related diseases.Conclusion Adiponectin is strongly associated with MetS independent of insulin resistance and obesity in older adults from major cities in China.The adiponectin concentration is a useful predictor for the risk of MetS. | QIN ZHUO ZHI-QING WANG PING FU JIAN-HUA PIAO YUAN TIAN JIE XU XIAO-GUANG YANG | 2010 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2010,23,1: | 4 |
