| 2 | Molecular mechanisms of salinity tolerance in rice显示文摘Salinity is one of the major abiotic stresses which impose constraints to plant growth and production.Rice(Oryza sativa L.)is one of the most important staple food crops and a model monocot plant.Its production is expanding into regions that are affected by soil salinity,requiring cultivars more tolerant to saline conditions.Understanding the molecular mechanisms of such tolerance could lay a foundation for varietal improvement of salt tolerance in rice.In spite of extensive studies exploring the mechanism of salt tolerance,there has been limited progress in breeding for increased salinity tolerance.In this review,we summarize the information about the major molecular mechanisms underlying salinity tolerance in rice and further discuss the limitations in breeding for salinity tolerance.We show that numerous gene families and interaction networks are involved in the regulation of rice responses to salinity,prompting a need for a comprehensive functional analysis.We also show that most studies are based on whole-plant level analyses with only a few reports focused on tissue-and/or cell-specific gene expression.More details of salt-responsive channel and transporter activities at tissue-and cell-specific level still need to be documented before these traits can be incorporated into elite rice germplasm.Thus,future studies should focus on diversity of available genetic resources and,particular,wild rice relatives,to reincorporate salinity tolerance traits lost during domestication. | Tianxiao Chen Sergey Shabala Yanan Niu Zhong-Hua Chen Lana Shabala Holger Meinke Gayatri Venkataraman Ashwani Pareek Jianlong Xu Meixue Zhou | 2021 | The Crop Journal2021,9,3: | 11 |

| 4 | Comparative evaluation of microscopy,OptiMAL® and 18S rRNA gene based multiplex PCR for detection of Plasmodium falciparum & Plasmodium vivax from field isolates of Bikaner,India显示文摘Objective:To evaluate microscopy,OptiMAL? and multiplex PCR for the identification of Plasmodium falciparum(P.falciparum) and Plasmodium vivax(P.vivax) from the field isolates of Bikaner,Rajasthan(Northwest India).Methods:In this study,a multiplex PCR(P.falciparum and P.vivax) was further developed with the incorporation of Plasmodium malariae(P.malariae) specific primer and also a positive control.The performance of microscopy,plasmodium lactate dehydrogenase(pLDH) based malaria rapid diagnostic test OptiMAL? and 18S rRNA gene based multiplex PCR for the diagnosis of P.falciparum and P.vivax was compared.Results:The three species multiplex PCR if.falciparum,P.vivax and P.malariae) with an inbuilt positive control was developed and evaluated.In comparison with multiplex PCR,which showed the sensitivity and specificity of 99.36%(95%CI,98.11%-100.00%) and 100.00%(95%CI,100.00%-100.00%),the sensitivity and specificity of microscopy was 90.44%(95%CI,88.849-95.04%) and 99.22%(95% CI,97.71%-100.00%),and OptiMAL? was 93.58%(95%CI,89.75%-97.42%) and 97.69%(95%CI, 95.10%-100.00%).The efficiencies were 99.65%,95.10%and 95.45%for multiplex PCK.microscopy and OptiMAL?.respectively.Conclusions:Our results raise concerns over the overall sensitivities of microscopy and OptiMAL?,when compared to the multiplex PCR and thus stress the need for new molecular interventions in the accurate detection of the malarial parasites.This further highlights the fact that further developments are needed to improve the performance of rapid diagnostic tests at field level. | Deepak Pakalapati Shilpi Garg Sheetal Middha Abhishek Kochar Amit Kumar Subudhi Boopathi Pon Arunachalam Sanjay Kumar Kochar Vishal Saxena Pareek RP Jyoti Acharya Dhanpat Kumar Kochar Ashis Das | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2013,6,5: | 3 |
| 5 | Fabrication of three-dimensional graphene anode for augmenting performance in microbial fuel cells显示文摘In the present work,we have reported the synthesis of 3D graphene structures by simple chemical reduction method for application in microbial fuel cell(MFC)as an anode.The synthesis procedure includes synthesis of graphene oxide by modified Hummers method followed by simultaneous reduction of graphene oxide and the formation of hydrogels.The 3D graphene structures are characterized using X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy techniques.Electrochemical characterization is carried out to study the capacitive properties and impedance studies of electrodes in conductive electrolyte.3D graphene electrodes show remarkably high capacitive current,charge storage and lower charge transfer resistance as estimated through cyclic voltammetry and Nyquist plots.In order to evaluate the performance of 3D graphene electrodes in MFC,power density and polarization curves are recorded in three configurations by varying terminal electron acceptors(TEA)viz.,dissolved oxygen(MFC-DO),potassium ferricyanide and MFC without TEA(MFC-NDO).3D graphene electrodes exhibits maximum power density of 0.49 mW/m^(2) in potassium ferricyanide followed by MFC-DO(0.36 mW/m^(2))and MFC-NDO(0.34 mW/m^(2)).Present work highlights the viability of chemically synthesized 3D graphene electrodes as an efficient anode material in MFC. | Alka Pareek J.Shanthi Sravan S.Venkata Mohan | 2019 | Carbon Resources Conversion2019,2,2: | 3 |
