| 1 | Overview of advances in improving uniformity and water use efficiency of sprinkler irrigation显示文摘Water is the scarcest resource and the importance of the judicious use of water in the agricultural sector for sustaining agricultural growth and the retardation of environmental degradation needs no further elaboration.The successes of using sprinkler irrigation to develop new lands,point the way forward to a much greater role for the development of future land reclamation projects.Water use efficiency through a proper improvement of water management techniques and other production factors are essential to boost on-farm productivity.Various factors affecting uniformity and water use efficiency in sprinkler irrigation have been outlined in this research,highlighting possible ways to improve such essential parameters in crop production.The study emphasizes on an irrigation system that works adequately in applying water to stay within the root zone,making the water always available in sufficient quantities to meet the crop water needs.It suggests practical ways of managing irrigation systems within tolerable limits not neglecting the effects of wind which is a major contributing factor to non uniformity in sprinkler irrigation. | Ransford Opoku Darko Yuan Shouqi Liu Junping Yan Haofang Zhu Xingye | 2017 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,2: | 8 |

| 4 | Pelleting characteristics of selected biomass with and without steam explosion pretreatment显示文摘Processing and densification of agricultural biomass into high density and durable pellets are critical to facilitate handling,storage and transportation.Biomass pelleting experiments were designed to conduct single and pilot scale pelleting of non-treated and steam exploded barley,canola,oat and wheat straw grinds acquired from 6.4,3.2,1.6 and 0.8 mm hammer mill screen sizes at 10%moisture content(wb).Single-pelleting was performed by applying compression pressures of 31.6,63.2,94.7,and 138.9 MPa using a close-fit plunger die assembly(die length 135.3 mm and diameter of(6.30±0.5)mm).During pilot scale pelleting,customization of ground straw material was performed by adding steam exploded biomass in increments of 25%to non-treated ground straw for respective biomass at specific grind size.Ground straw samples were conditioned to 17.5%moisture content and 10%flaxseed oil was added to increase the bulk density and flowability of grinds,which resulted in the production of pellets.The quality of pellets from single pelleting experiments was ascertained by measuring their respective density and durability.In addition,the change in pellet density was measured after a storage period of one month to determine its dimensional stability.It was determined that applied pressure and pre-treatment were significant factors affecting the pellet density.Also,bigger grind sizes and lower applied pressures resulted in higher pellet relaxations(lower pellet densities)during storage of pellets.The pilot scale pellet mill produced pellets from ground non-treated straw at hammer mill screen sizes of 0.8 and 1.6 mm and customized samples having 25%steam exploded straw at 0.8 mm.It was observed that the pellet bulk density and particle density are positively correlated.The density and durability of agricultural straw pellets significantly increased with decrease in hammer mill screen size from 1.6 mm to 0.8 mm.Customization of agricultural straw by adding 25%of steam exploded straw by weight is possible,but it did not improve pellet quality.In addition,durability of pellets was negatively correlated to pellet mill throughput and was positively correlated to specific energy consumption. | Phani Adapa Lope Tabil Greg Schoenau Anthony Opoku | 2010 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2010,3,3: | 4 |
| 5 | 粘壤麦茬玉米免耕制的变化显示文摘粘壤地小麦后茬玉米免耕制常使其产量降低,已成为在Ontario地区减少运用免耕制的一个主要因素。本文目的是确定粘壤地小麦后茬玉米在保持耕作和小麦残茬管理方面对其出苗、生长和产量有益的条件。1994和1995年在Ontario两个地点评价了7种耕作与残茬管理体系(秋翻耕、深松耕、串列式耙茬、带状耕作、免耕裸地、免耕秸秆打捆与不打捆覆盖)。秋季带状耕作减少了土壤表面小麦残茬量。晚秋留在带状耕作、免耕打捆和不打捆覆盖地上的小麦残茬量分别为3.1、4.0和7.1Mg/hm2。秋耕处理15cm土层早春含水量没有差异,但都低于免耕麦秆覆盖处理。采用秋季带状或秋耙改变的免耕制与秋翻耕或秋深松耕处理的玉米产量没有差异,都比免耕麦秆覆盖处理增产5%~10%。免耕的产量潜势受到小麦残茬量的影响。全部去掉小麦残茬要比免耕麦草打捆和不打捆覆盖的玉米产量增加0.5Mg/hm2和0.9Mg/hm2。免耕打捆和不打捆覆盖处理20cm土层的微团粒比例最少,透性抗性最大,玉米生长最慢,产量最低。本文推荐在粘壤地上小麦茬后种植玉米采用秋季带状耕作或串列式耙地。 | George Opoku 杨健 | 1998 | 麦类作物1998,18,2: | 2 |
| 6 | Determination of crop and soil evaporation coefficients for estimating evapotranspiration in a paddy field显示文摘Accurate estimation of evapotranspiration is important in efficient water management for improving water use efficiency.In order to obtain evapotranspiration and evaporation beneath the canopy using the Food and Agriculture Organization(FAO)method,pan evaporation was used instead of reference evapotranspiration calculated by the Penman-Monteith equation with detailed meteorological data.The total crop coefficient and soil evaporation coefficient were determined using actual measured daytime evapotranspiration and evaporation by the Bowen ratio energy balance and lysimeter,respectively,in a rice paddy field in Japan.The average evapotranspiration was 5.3 mm/d,4.4 mm/d,7.4 mm/d and 6.3 mm/d and crop coefficient was 0.79,1.18,1.01 and 0.86 for the initial stage,development stage,middle-season stage and late-season stage,respectively.The evaporation was low and almost constant with an average value around 0.77 mm/d when the leaf area index(LAI)reached 3.The proposed average crop coefficients for different growing stages were applied to estimate daytime evapotranspiration and found suitable.A simple soil water evaporation coefficient model was developed using leaf area index for practical use and it was found that it could accurately estimate evaporation. | Yan Haofang Zhang Chuan Hiroki Oue Peng Guangjie Ransford Opoku Darko | 2017 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,4: | 2 |

| 12 | Trends in forensic DNA database:transnational exchange of DNA data显示文摘The transnational exchange of forensic DNA data has become a modern trend in fighting cross-border crime,terrorism and illegal immigration.Forensic DNA data allow the police to identify,eliminate or link individuals associated with a crime.Additionally,different crime scenes can be linked via the DNA profile to identify serial offenders or determine crime pat-terns.Approaches to the transnational exchange of DNA data can be categorized into four:(1)creation of an international DNA database,(2)linked or networked national DNA data-bases,(3)request-based exchange of data,and(4)a combination of these.Most countries operate the combination system of data exchange.This paper briefly introduces the different approaches in the transnational sharing of forensic DNA data,the legislative and operational framework,pattern of data exchange and participating states,and policy challenges associ-ated with data sharing.Generally,most DNA exchange systems are modelled as the European Union Prüm regime.This operates under two stages:hit/no-hit query and further information sharing.The scope of the data exchange is governed by individual national legislation that determines the type of information that can be shared and the national authority responsible for the system.Though DNA data exchange has been instrumental in resolving serious crimes such as gang and serial rape,and armed robbery,adequate infor-mation about their overall effectiveness and efficiency is lacking.Further,operational,legal and ethical challenges including issues of privacy and proportionality appear to limit the full potential of the DNA data exchange system. | Aaron Opoku Amankwaa | 2020 | Forensic Sciences Research2020,5,1: | 1 |

| 17 | Analysis of indoor set-point temperature of split-type ACs on thermal comfort and energy savings for office buildings in hot-humid climates显示文摘In hot-humid climates,particularly in sub-Saharan Africa(SSA),ambient temperatures and relative humidity are as high as 35°C and 84%,respectively,requiring the use of mechanical cooling systems for indoor thermal comfort.Split-type vapor-compression air-conditioners(SVAC)are mainly used for space cooling in SSA and consume 60-80%of total energy consumption in commercial and public buildings.Appropriate control strategy of the indoor set-point temperature of SVAC can result in significant energy savings in these buildings.In this study,modeling and dynamic simulation have been conducted using EnergyPlus to predict the energy saving potential and indoor thermal comfort of buildings in hot-humid climates by controlling set-point temperature of the SVAC.In a case study,climatic data for Ghana,was used to predict the energy saving potential and indoor thermal comfort.The study results revealed that,to ensure indoor thermal comfort at high outdoor temperature condition of 35°C,the least and optimum set-point temperatures of the SVAC should be 21°C and 25°C,respectively.On the other hand,for low outdoor temperature condition,the least and optimum set-point temperatures were 22°C and 26°C,respectively.Considering 1-star and 2-star rated SVACs which are dominantly used in Ghana,operating at 21-25°C in the case of high outdoor conditions,and 22-26°C for low outdoor conditions relative to the least temperatures resulted in energy savings of 8-33%and 12-44%,respectively. | KofiOwura Amoabeng Richard Opoku Samuel Boahen George Yaw Obeng | 2023 | Energy and Built Environment2023,4,3: | 1 |
