| 1 | Accuracy of urea breath test in Helicobacter pylori infection: Meta-analysis显示文摘AIM: To quantitatively summarize and appraise the available evidence of urea breath test(UBT) use to diagnose Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection in patients with dyspepsia and provide pooled diagnostic accuracy measures.METHODS: We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane library and other databases for studies addressing the value of UBT in the diagnosis of H. pylori infection. We included cross-sectional studies that evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of UBT in adult patients with dyspeptic symptoms. Risk of bias was assessed using QUADAS(Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies)-2 tool. Diagnostic accuracy measures were pooled using the random-effects model. Subgroup analysis was conducted by UBT type(13C vs 14C) and by measurement technique(Infrared spectrometry vs Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry).RESULTS: Out of 1380 studies identified, only 23 met the eligibility criteria. Fourteen studies(61%) evaluated 13 C UBT and 9 studies(39%) evaluated 14 C UBT. There was significant variation in the type of reference standard tests used across studies.Pooled sensitivity was 0.96(95%CI: 0.95-0.97) andpooled specificity was 0.93(95%CI: 0.91-0.94). Likelihood ratio for a positive test was 12 and for a negative test was 0.05 with an area under thecurve of 0.985. Meta-analyses were associated with a significant statistical heterogeneity that remained unexplained after subgroup analysis. The included studies had a moderate risk of bias.CONCLUSION: UBT has high diagnostic accuracy for detecting H. pylori infection in patients with dyspepsia. | 2 | IL-6-deficient Mice Are Susceptible to Ethanol-induced Hepatic Steatosis:IL-6 Protects against Ethanol-induced Oxidative Stress and Mitochondrial Permeability Transition in the Liver显示文摘Interleukin-6 (IL-6)-deficient mice are prone to ethanol-induced apoptosis and steatosis in the liver; however, the underlying mechanism is not fully understood. Mitochondrial dysfunction caused by oxidative stress is an early event that plays an important role in the pathogenesis of alcoholic liver disease. Therefore, we hypothesize that the protective role of IL-6 in ethanol-induced liver injury is mediated via suppression of ethanol-induced oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. To test this hypothesis, we examined the effects of IL-6 on ethanol-induced oxidative stress, mitochondrial injury, and energy depletion in the livers of IL-6 (-/-) mice and hepatocytes from ethanol-fed rats. Ethanol consumption leads to stronger induction of malondialdehyde (MDA) in IL-6 (-/-) mice compared to wild-type control mice, which can be corrected by administration of IL-6. In vitro,IL-6 treatment prevents ethanol-mediated induction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), MDA, mitochondrial permeability transition (MPT), and ethanol-mediated depletion of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in hepatocytes from ethanol-fed rats. Administration of IL-6 in vivo also reverses ethanol-induced MDA and ATP depletion in hepatocytes. Finally, IL-6 treatment induces metallothionein protein expression, but not superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase in cultured hepatocytes. | 3 | Differential control of growth,apoptotic activity and gene expression in human colon cancer cells by extracts derived from medicinal herbs,Rhazya stricta and Zingiber officinale and their combination显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effects of extracts from Rhazya stricta(R.stricta) and Zingiber officinale(Z.officinale) on human colorectal cancer cells.METHODS:Human colorectal cancer cells(HCT116) were subjected to increasing doses of crude alkaloid extracts from R.stricta(CAERS) and crude flavonoid extracts from Z.officinale(CFEZO).Cells were then harvested after 24,48 or 72 h and cell viability was examined by trypan blue exclusion dye test; clonogenicity and soft agar colony-forming assays were also carried out.Nuclear stain(Hoechst 33342),acridine orange/ethidium bromide double staining,agarose gel electrophoresis and comet assays were performed to assess pro-apoptotic potentiality of the extracts.Quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR),using gene-specific primers and Western blot analyses were performed to assess the impact of CAERS and CFEZO on the expression levels of key regulatory proteins in HCT116 cells.RESULTS:Treatment with a combination of CAERS and CFEZO synergistically suppressed the proliferation,colony formation and anchorage-independent growth of HCT116 cells.Calculated IC50,after 24,48 and 72 h,were 70,90 and 130 μg/mL for CAERS,65,85 and 120 μg/mL for CFEZO and 20,25 and 45 μg/mL for both agents,respectively.CAERS- and CFEZO-treated cells exhibited morphologic and biochemical features of apoptotic cell death.The induction of apoptosis was associated with the release of mitochondrial cytochrome c,an increase in the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio,activation of caspases 3 and 9 and cleavage of poly ADP-ribose polymerase.CAERS and CFEZO treatments downregulated expression levels of anti-apoptotic proteins including Bcl-2,Bcl-X,Mcl-1,survivin and XIAP,and upregulated expression levels of proapoptotic proteins such as Bad and Noxa.CAERS and CFEZO treatments elevated expression levels of the oncosuppressor proteins,p53,p21 and p27,and reduced levels of the oncoproteins,cyclin D1,cyclin/cyclin-dependent kinase-4 and c-Myc.CONCLUSION:These data suggest that a combination of CAERS and CFEZO is a promising treatment for the prevention of colon cancer. | Ayman I Elkady Rania Abd El Hamid Hussein Osama A Abu-Zinadah | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,41: | 12 |

| 5 | 新疆药用植物牛至内生细菌多样性与抗菌活性显示文摘【背景】植物内生菌作为微生物群落中一类非常重要的组成部分,在多个领域都有广泛的应用价值,如促进植物生长、抵抗病虫害、生物固氮、降解有毒有害化合物等。【目的】进一步丰富新疆野果林苹果腐烂病害的生防资源以及分析牛至内生细菌多样性特征。【方法】通过纯培养方法,对健康植物牛至组织进行内生细菌的分离纯化,并进行16S rRNA基因序列分析;再利用平板对峙法筛选具有抑制苹果腐烂病病原菌生长的内生细菌。【结果】共分离到168株内生细菌,最终确定为4门5纲8目12科17属,其中优势属为芽胞杆菌属(Bacillus)。由分离实验结果可知,M1号TSA培养基,M5号组氨酸-棉子糖培养基和M6号NA培养基是分离牛至内生细菌较为理想的培养基;采自新源县野果林的牛至内生细菌多样性较为丰富,在牛至根部内生细菌种类更多;通过拮抗实验共筛选出59株牛至内生细菌具有较好的抑菌效果。【结论】新疆药用植物牛至内生细菌的物种多样性较为丰富,而且富含一批有效抑制野苹果腐烂病病原菌生长的内生细菌菌株。因此,本研究在新疆野果林苹果腐烂病的生物防治和药用植物内生细菌种质资源的填补等方面具有重要意义。 | 高磊 刘永红 马金彪 Osama Abdalla Abdelshafy Mohamad 李文均 李丽 | 2021 | 微生物学通报2021,48,4: | 8 |

| 7 | Numerical Investigation of Rotating Stall in Centrifugal Compressor with Vaned and Vaneless Diffuser显示文摘This study presents a numerical simulation of the stall and surge in a centrifugal compressor and presents a description of the stall development in two different cases.The first case is for a compressor with vaneless diffuser and the second is for a compressor with vaned diffuser of the vane island shape.The main aim of this study is to compare the flow characteristics and behavior for the two compressors near the surge operating condition and provide further understanding of the diffuser role when back flow occurs at surge.Results showed that for a location near the diffuser entrance,the amplitude of the static pressure fluctuations for the vaneless diffuser case is higher than that for the vaned diffuser case near surge condition.These pressure fluctuations in the case of the vaneless diffuser appear with a gradual decrease of the mean pressure value as a part of the surge cycle.While for the case of the vaned diffuser,the pressure drop during surge occurs faster than the case of the vaneless diffuser.Also,results indicated that during surge in the case of vaneless diffuser,there is a region with low velocity and back flow that appears as a layer connecting all impeller passages near shroud surface and this layer develops in size with time.On the other hand,for the case of vaned diffuser during surge,the low velocity regions appear in random locations in some passages and these regions expand with time towards the shroud surface.Results showed that during stall,the impeller passages are exposed to identical impact from stall cells in the case of vaneless diffuser while the stall effect varies from passage to another in the case of the vaned diffuser. | Taher Halawa Mohamed Alqaradawi Mohamed S.Gadala Ibrahim Shahin Osama Badr | 2015 | Journal of Thermal Science2015,24,4: | 6 |
| 8 | Endophytic bacteria associated with endangered plant Ferula sinkiangensis K. M. Shen in an arid land: diversity and plant growth-promoting traits显示文摘Ferula spp. are traditional medicinal plants found in arid land. Large-scale excavation for extracting bioactive compounds from the plants in arid regions of Xinjiang over the last few years has, however, significantly decreased their distributions. Due to the urgent need for preservation of these plant resources, along with the need of searching for alternative source of the useful metabolites, it is important to screen the endophytic microbial resources associated with the plant Ferula sinkiangensis K. M. Shen. In the study, a total of 125 endophytic bacteria belonging to 3 phyla, 13 orders, 23 families, and 29 genera were isolated based on 16 SrRNA gene sequencing data. Among the different isolates, three strains isolated from roots were potential novel species of the genera Por phyrobacter, Paracoccus and Amycolatopsis. In this study, 79.4% and 57.1% of the total isolates were capable of producing indole-3-acetic acid(IAA) and siderophore, respectively. And, 40.6% of the strains inhibit the growth of fungal pathogen Alternaria alternata, 17.2% and 20.2% strains were positive for antagonism against Verticillium dahlia 991 and V. dahlia 7, respectively. | 10 | Rituximab for troublesome cases of childhood nephrotic syndrome显示文摘Nephrotic syndrome(NS) is the most common glomerular disease of childhood. Steroid-dependent and steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome present challenges in their pharmaceutical management; patients may need several immunosuppressive medication for optimum control, each of which medication has its own safety profile. Rituximab(RTX) is a monoclonal antibody that targets B cells and has been used successfully for management of lymphoma and rheumatoid arthritis. Recent clinical studies showed that rituximab may be an efficacious and safe alternative for the treatment of complicated nephrotic syndrome. In this review article, we aim to review the efficacy and safety of RTX therapy in nephrotic syndrome. We reviewed the literature pertaining to this topic by searching for relevant studies on Pub Med and Medline using specific keywords. The initial search yielded 452 articles. These articles were then examined to ensure their relevance to the topic of research. We focused on multicenter randomized controlled trials with relatively large numbers of patients. A total of 29 articles were finally identified and will be summarized in this review. The majority of clinical studies of RTX in complicated pediatric NS showed that rituximab is effective in approximately 80% of patients with steroid-dependent NS, as it decreases the number of relapses and steroid dosage. However, RTX is less effective at achieving remission in steroid-resistant NS. RTX use was generally safe, and most side effects were transient and infusion-related. | 13 | Wastewater degradation by iron/copper nanoparticles and the microorganism growth rate显示文摘Nowadays, trends in wastewater treatment by zero-valent iron(ZVI) were turned to use bimetallic NZVI particles by planting another metal onto the ZVI surface to increase its reactivity. Nano size zero-valent iron/copper(NZVI/Cu0) bimetallic particles were synthesized in order to examine its toxicity effects on the wastewater microbial life, kinetics of phosphorus, ammonia stripping and the reduction of chemical oxygen demand(COD).Various concentrations of NZVI/Cu0 and operation conditions both aerobic and anaerobic were investigated and compared with pure NZVI experiment. The results showed that addition10 mg/L of NZVI/Cu0 significantly increased the numbers of bacteria colonies under anaerobic condition, conversely it inhibited bacteria activity with the presence of oxygen. Furthermore,the impact of nanoparticles on ammonia stripping and phosphorus removal was also linked to the emitted iron ions electrons. It was found that dosing high concentration of bimetallic NZVI/Cu0 has a negative effect on ammonia stripping regardless of the aeration condition. | 16 | Performance study of selective encryption in comparison to full encryption for still visual images显示文摘Securing digital images is becoming an important concern in today's information security due to the extensive use of secure images that are either transmitted over a network or stored on disks. Image encryption is the most effective way to fulfil confidentiality and protect the privacy of images. Nevertheless, owing to the large size and complex structure of digital images, the computational overhead and processing time needed to carry out full image encryption prove to be limiting factors that inhibit it of being used more heavily in real time. To solve this problem, many recent studies use the selective encryption approach to encrypt significant parts of images with a hope to reduce the encryption overhead. However, it is necessary to realistically evaluate its performance compared to full encryption. In this paper, we study the performance and efficiency of image segmentation methods used in the selective encryption approach, such as edges and face detection methods, in determining the most important parts of visual images. Experiments were performed to analyse the computational results obtained by selective image encryption compared to full image encryption using symmetric encryption algorithms. Experiment results have proven that the selective encryption approach based on edge and face detection can significantly reduce the time of encrypting still visual images as compared to full encryption. | 17 | Ankle and foot mechanics in individuals with chronic ankle instability during shod walking and barefoot walking:A cross-sectional study显示文摘Purpose:This study evaluated the angular kinematic and moment of the ankle and foot during shod walking and barefoot walking in individuals with unilateral chronic ankle instability(CAI).Methods:Recreational soccer players with unilateral CAI were recruited for this cross sectional study conducted between January and August 2019.A total of 40 participants were screened for eligibility but only 31 met the inclusion criteria based on the methods of Delahunt et al and Gribble et al.Except for 3 participants not attending the evaluation session,28 participants were finally included.A three dimensional motion analysis system made up of ProReflex motion capture unit and an AMTIb Kistler force plate,embedded in the middle of nine meter walkway,were used to assess the ankle and foot angles and moment during shod walking and barefoot walking conditions.A Statistical Package for Social Sciences(version 20.0)was used to analyze data.Results:During shod walking,the ankle joint plantar-flexion range of motion(ROM)at 10%of the gait cycle(GC)and dorsiflexion ROM at 30%of the GC were significantly higher than those during barefoot walking for both feet(p=0.001,0.001,0.027,and 0.036 respectively).The inversion ROM during shod walking was significantly higher than that during barefoot walking for both feet at 10%and 30%of the GC(p=0.001.0.001,0.001,and 0.042 respectively).At 10%of the GC,the eversion moment was significantly higher between barefoot and shod walking for both feet(both p=0.001).At 30%of the GC,there was no significant difference between shod and barefoot walking plantar-flexion moment of both feet(p=0.975 and 0.763 respectively),and the eversion moment of both feet(p=0.116 and 0.101 respectively).Conclusion:At the early stance,shod walking increases the ankle plantar-flexion and foot inversion ROM,and decreases the eversion moment for both feet in subjects with unilateral CAI.Therefore,the foot wearing condition should be considered during evaluation of ankle and foot kinematics and kinetics. | Osama Ragaa Abdelraouf Amr Almaz Abdel-aziem | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Traumatology2021,24,3: | 4 |
| 18 | 甘草内生细菌对4种植物病原菌的抑菌谱及其16SrRNA系统发育分析显示文摘旨在筛选对4种植物病原真菌具有拮抗活性的甘草内生细菌,为新疆甘草内生细菌的开发应用提供理论依据。采用平板对峙培养法从100株甘草内生细菌中筛选对石榴枯萎病甘薯长喙壳、草果叶斑病镰刀菌、草果假茎黑斑病小孢拟盘多毛孢、墨兰炭疽病胶孢炭疽菌等4个病原菌具有拮抗活性的菌株,并测定其16SrRNA基因序列,建立系统发育树对其进行初步鉴定。结果显示,61株菌株对甘薯长喙壳具有拮抗作用,其中13株菌的抑菌半径均大于15mm。进一步研究表明,10株菌对4种植物病原菌都表现出较高的抑菌能力。基于16Sr RNA基因序列分析与系统发育分析表明,其中11株菌为萎缩芽孢杆菌(Bacillus atrophaeus),另外2株菌分别为副氧化微杆菌(Microbacterium paraoxydans)和莫哈韦芽胞杆菌(B.mojavensis)。 | 祖丽皮亚木·木沙尔 李丽 郭建伟 古丽斯玛依·艾拜都拉 OSAMA Mohamed | 2018 | 西北农业学报2018,27,9: | 4 |
| 19 | Sulforaphane as a Promising Natural Molecule for Cancer Prevention and Treatment显示文摘Tumorigenicity-inhibiting compounds have been identifled in our daily diet.For example,isothiocyanates(ITCs)found in cruciferous vegetables were reported to have potent cancer=prevention activities.The best characterized ITC is sulforaphane(SF).SF can simultaneously modulate multiple cellular targets involved in carcinogenesis,including(1)modulating carcinogen-metabolizing enzymes and blocking the action of mutagens;(2)inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis;and(3)inhibition of neo-angiogenesis and metastasis.SF targets cancer stem cells through modulation of nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB),Sonic hedgehog(SHH),epithelial-mesenchymal transition,and Wnt/βcatenin pathways.Conventional chemotherapy/SF combination was tested in several studies and resulted in favorable outcomes.With its favorable toxicological profile,SF is a promising agent in cancer prevention and/or therapy.In this article,we discuss the human metabolism of SF and its effects on cancer prevention,treatment,and targeting cancer stem cells,as well as providing a brief review of recent human clinical trials on SF. | Osama A.Elkashty Simon D.Tran | 2021 | Current Medical Science2021,41,2: | 4 |
| 20 | Clinical outcomes of transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy versus femtosecond laser assisted keratomileusis for correction of high myopia in South Egyptian population显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy(t-PRK) with adjuvant mitomycin C(MMC) versus femtosecond laser assisted keratomileusis(Femto-LASIK) in correction of high myopia.METHODS: Prospective randomized comparative study including 156 eyes of 156 patients with high myopia and a spherical equivalent refraction(SER) <-6.00 D. They were divided randomly into two groups: Group A included 72 eyes treated with t-PRK with adjuvant MMC and Group B included 84 eyes treated with Femto-LASIK. Visual acuity, SER, corneal topography, pachymetry and keratometry were assessed for 12 mo postoperatively.RESULTS: The preoperative mean SER was-8.86±1.81 and-9.25±1.70 D in t-PRK MMC group and Femto-LASIK respectively(P=0.99) which improved to-0.65±0.43 D and-0.69±0.50 D at 12 mo follow up. Mean SER remained stable during the 12 mo of follow-up, with no statistically significant difference between the two groups(P=0.64). In t-PRK MMC group, only six eyes needed retreatment after six months of follow up.
