1p16 promoter hypermethylation:A useful serum marker for early detection of gastric cancer显示文摘AIM: To determine p16 promoter hypermethylation in gastric tumoral tissue and serum samples, its impact on p16-protein expression, and correlation with clinical and histological features. METHODS: Samples were obtained from 52 histologically confirmed cases of gastric adenocarcinoma. Gastric tissue and serum of 50 age- and sex-matched individuals with normal gastroscopy and biopsy were obtained as control samples. Methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction (MSP) was used to evaluate methylation status of p16 promoter. p16-protein expression was analyzed by immunohistochemical staining on paraffin-embedded sections. RESULTS: Methylation was detected in 44.2% (23/52) of tumoral tissues. 60.9% of them were also methylated in serum, i.e., 26.9% of all patients (14/52). Methylation was not detected in tissue and sera of control samples. p16-protein expression was decreased in 61.5% of cases (32/52), and was significantly associated with promoter hypermethylation (P < 0.001). Methylation was significantly more frequent in higher pathological grades (P < 0.05). Methylation was not associated with other clinicopathological features and environmental factors including H pylori infection and smoking. CONCLUSION: p16 promoter hypermethylation is an important event in gastric carcinogenesis. It is the principle mechanism of p16 gene silencing. It is related to malignant tumor behavior. 3Essential oils used in aromatherapy: A systemic review显示文摘Nowadays, use of alternative and complementary therapies with mainstream medicine has gained the momentum. Aromatherapy is one of the complementary therapies which use essential oils as the major therapeutic agents to treat several diseases. The essential or volatile oils are extracted from the flowers, barks, stem, leaves, roots, fruits and other parts of the plant by various methods. It came into existence after the scientists deciphered the antiseptic and skin permeability properties of essential oils. Inhalation, local application and baths are the major methods used in aromatherapy that utilize these oils to penetrate the human skin surface with marked aura. Once the oils are in the system, they remodulate themselves and work in a friendly manner at the site of malfunction or at the affected area. This type of therapy utilizes various permutation and combinations to get relief from numerous ailments like depression, indigestion, headache, insomnia, muscular pain, respiratory problems, skin ailments, swollen joints, urine associated complications etc. The essential oils are found to be more beneficial when other aspects of life and diet are given due consideration. This review explores the information available in the literature regarding therapeutic, medical, cosmetic, psychological, olfactory, massage aromatherapy, safety issues and different plants used in aromatherapy. 4Inertial sensors technologies for navigation applications:state of the art and future trends显示文摘Inertial navigation represents a unique method of navigation,in which there is no dependency on external sources of information.As opposed to other position fixing navigation techniques,inertial navigation performs the navigation in a relative sense with respect to the initial navigation state of the moving platform.Hence,inertial navigation systems are not prone to jamming,or spoofing.Inertial navigation systems have developed vastly,from their occurrence in the 1940s up to date.The accuracy of the inertial sensors has improved over time,making inertial sensors sufficient in terms of size,weight,cost,and accuracy for navigation and guidance applications.Within the past few years,inertial sensors have developed from being purely mechanical into incorporating various technologies and taking advantage of numerous physical phenomena,from which the dynamic forces exerted on a moving body could be computed accurately.Besides,the evolution of inertial navigation scheme involved the evolution from stable-platform inertial navigation system,which were mechanically complicated,to computationally demanding strap-down inertial navigation systems.Optical sensory technologies have provided highly accurate inertial sensors,at smaller sizes.Besides,the vibratory inertial navigation technologies enabled the production of Micro-electro-machined inertial sensors that are extremely low-cost,and offer extremely low size,weight and power consumption,making them suitable for a wide range of day-to-day navigation applications.Recently,advanced inertial sensor technologies have been introduced to the industry such as nuclear magnetic resonance technology,coldatom technology,and the reintroduction of fluid-based inertial sensors.On another note,inertial sensor errors constitute a huge research aspect in which it is intended for inertial sensors to reach level in which they could operate for substantially long operation times in the absence of updates from aiding sensors,which would be a huge leap.Inertial sensors error modeling techniques have been developing rapidly trying to ensure higher levels of navigation accuracy using lower-cost inertial sensors.In this review,the inertial sensor technologies are covered extensively,along the future trends in the inertial sensors’technologies.Besides,this review covers a brief overview on the inertial error modeling techniques used to enhance the performance of low-cost sensors.Naser El-Sheimy Ahmed Youssef 2020Satellite Navigation2020,1,1:11
5Soil Organic Carbon Pools in Particle-Size Fractions as Affected by Slope Gradient and Land Use Change in Hilly Regions,Western Iran显示文摘This study was conducted to explore the effects of topography and land use changes on particulate organic carbon(POC),particulate total nitrogen(PTN),organic carbon(OC) and total nitrogen(TN) associated with different size primary particle fractions in hilly regions of western Iran.Three popular land uses in the selected site including natural forest(NF),disturbed forest(DF) and cultivated land(CL) and three slope gradients(0-10 %,S1,10-30 %,S2,and 30-50%,S3) were employed as the basis of soil sampling.A total of 99 soil samples were taken from the 0-10 cm surface layer in the whole studied hilly region studied.The results showed that the POC in the forest land use in all slope gradients was considerably more than the deforested and cultivated lands and the highest value was observed at NF-S1 treatment with 9.13%.The values of PTN were significantly higher in the forest land use and in the down slopes(0.5%) than in the deforested and cultivated counterparts and steep slopes(0.09%) except for the CL land use.The C:N ratios in POC fraction were around 17-18 in the forest land and around 23 in the cultivated land.In forest land,the silt-associated OC was highest among the primary particles.The enrichment factor of SOC,EC,was the highest for POC.For the primary particles,EC of both primary fractions of silt and clay showed following trend for selected land uses and slope gradients:CL> DF> NF and S3 > S2> S1.Slope gradient of landscape significantly affected the OC and TN contents associated with the silt and clay particles,whereas higher OC and TN contents were observed in lower positions and the lowest value was measured in the steep slopes.Overall,the results showed that native forest land improves soil organic carbon storage and can reduce the carbon emission and soil erosion especially in the mountainous regions with high rainfall in west of Iran.Parisa Mokhtari KARCHEGANI Shamsollah AYOUBI Mohammad Reza MOSADDEGHI Naser HONARJOO 2012Journal of Mountain Science2012,9,1:10
6Antibacterial activity of Rosmarinus officinalis L.alone and in combination with cefuroxime against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus显示文摘Objective:To determine the antimicrobial activity of rosemary(Rosmarinus of ficinalis L.) and to investigate the synergistic effects of this extract combined with ceforuxime against methicillinresistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA).Methods:The inhibitory and bactericidal activities of rosemary ethanol extract,alone and in combination with cefuroxime,were studied.Results:The minimum inhibitory concentrations(MICs) of the ethanol extract of rosemary were in the range of 0.39-3.13 mg/mL.The minimum bactericidal concentrations(MBCs) were usually equal to or double that MICs.The antimicrobial activity of combinations of the ethanol extract of rosemary and cefuroxime indicated their synergistic effects against all MRSAs.Conclusions:The present work clearly demonstrates that rosemary has a key role in the elevation of susceptibility toβ-lactams.Naser Jarrar Awni Abu-Hijleh Kamel Adwan 2010Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,2:10
7Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis causes Crohn's disease in some inflammatory bowel disease patients显示文摘Crohn’s disease(CD)is a chronic inflammatory condition that plagues millions all over the world.This debilitating bowel disease can start in early childhood and continue into late adulthood.Signs and symptoms are usually many and multiple tests are often required for the diagnosis and confirmation of this disease.However,little is still understood about the cause(s)of CD.As a result,several theories have been proposed over the years.One theory in particular is that Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis(MAP)is intimately linked to the etiology of CD.This fastidious bacterium also known to cause Johne’s disease in cattle has infected the intestines of animals for years.It is believed that due to the thick,waxy cell wall of MAP it is able to survive the process of pasteurization as well as chemical processes seen in irrigation purification systems.Subsequently meat,dairy products and water serve as key vehicles in the transmission of MAP infection to humans(from farm to fork)who have a genetic predisposition,thus leading to the development of CD.The challenges faced in culturing this bacterium from CD are many.Examples include its extreme slow growth,lack of cell wall,low abundance,and its mycobactin dependency.In this review article,data from 60 studies showing the detection and isolation of MAP by PCR and culture techniques have been reviewed.Although this review may not be 100%comprehensive of all studies,clearly the majority of the studies overwhelmingly and definitively support the role of MAP in at least30%-50%of CD patients.It is very possible that lack of detection of MAP from some CD patients may be due to the absence of MAP role in these patients.The latter statement is conditional on utilization of methodology appropriate for detection of human MAP strains.Ultimately,stratification of CD and inflammatory bowel disease patients for the presence or absence of MAP is necessary for appropriate and effective treatment which may lead to a cure.Saleh A Naser Sudesh R Sagramsingh Abed S Naser Saisathya Thanigachalam 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,23:9
8Combination of thrombolytic therapy and angioplastic stent insertion in a patient with Budd-Chiari syndrome显示文摘A 31-year-old female who had well-established polycythemia vera one year before, presented with the sudden onset. She had severe ascites and hepatic encephalopathy 12 d prior to admission. Real-time ultrasonography revealed a supra hepatic thrombosis extending toward the inferior vena cava (lVC). Thrombolytic therapy with systemic streptokinase (250 000 IU loading + 100 000 IU/h infusion) was started. At the end of 72 h infusion, the patient's general condition improved. A color Doppler ultrasonography then showed complete and partial resolution of the thrombosis in the supra hepatic vein and IVC, respectively. Despite this good response, 12 d later, the symptoms recurred. Venography detected complete obstruction of the lVC. Percutanous balloon angioplasty with stent insertion was performed successfully and the patient was discharged without any evidence of liver disease. 10Effects of different periods of renal ischemia on liver as a remote organ显示文摘AIM:To assess the hepatic changes after induction of different periods of renal ischemia. METHODS:Rats were subjected to either sham operation or ischemia (30,45 and 60 min) followed by 60 min reperfusion. Liver and renal functional indices were measured. Hepatic glutathione (GSH) and ferric reducing antioxidant power levels and the concentration of interleukin (IL)-10 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) were evaluated. Portions of liver and kidney tissues were fixed for histological evaluation. RESULTS:Forty-five minutes renal ischemia followed by 60 min reperfusion caused significant changes in liver structure and a significant reduction in renalfunction. These rats showed a significant decrease in liver GSH,as well as a significant increase in TNF-α and IL-10 concentrations. These results demonstrated that renal ischemia caused changes in liver histology,function,oxidative stress and inflammatory status,which led to a reduction in hepatic antioxidant capacity. 11Integrated use of GIS, remote sensing and multi-criteria decision analysis to assess ecological land suitability in multi-functional forestry显示文摘The Zagros forests are a treasure of valuable oak forests,but they have been severely degraded from long-term misuse.Geographic information systems(GIS)and multi-criteria decision analysis(MCDA) have been increasingly used to improve the management of vulnerable ecosystems to prevent further degradation and increase the sustainability of land use.This study presents a methodology to assess land suitability using remote sensing(RS) to obtain wall-to-wall data for the calculations,GIS to analyze the data,and MCDA to rank alternative land uses.The criteria and subcriteria affecting the suitability of land for different uses were identified and weighted using an analytic hierarchy process.Variables used as subcriteria were assessed using satellite data and other sources of information such as existing maps and field surveys.Numerical values for the subcriteria were classified,and each class was given a priority rating according to expert judgments.Based on the ratings and weights of the subcriteria,a priority map was created for each land use using the weighted linear combination method.The priority maps for different land uses were overlaid to obtain a preliminary land use map,which often indicated several simultaneous land uses for the same location.The preliminary map was further edited by removing unrealistic,mutually exclusive land-use combinations.The study tested and demonstrated the potential of integrating RS,GIS and MCDA techniques for solving complicated land allocation problems in forested regions using a scientifically sound and practical approach for efficient and sustainable allocation of forestland for different uses.Naser Ahmadi Sani Sasan Babaie Kafaky Timo Pukkala Asadollah Mataji 2016Journal of Forestry Research2016,27,5:5

13Systematic review and meta-analysis on the association of tuberculosis in Crohn's disease patients treated with tumor necrosis factor-α inhibitors(Anti-TNFα)显示文摘AIM To perform a meta-analysis on the risk of developing Mycobacterium tuberculosis(TB) infection in Crohn's disease(CD) patients treated with tumor necrosis factoralpha(TNFα) inhibitors.METHODS A meta-analysis of randomized, double-blind, placebocontrolled trials of TNFα inhibitors for treatment of CD in adults was conducted. Arcsine transformation of TB incidence was performed to estimate risk difference. A novel epidemiologically-based correction(EBC) enabling inclusions of studies reporting no TB infection cases in placebo and treatment groups was developed to estimate relative odds.RESULTS Twenty-three clinical trial studies were identified, including 5669 patients. Six TB infection cases were reported across 5 studies, all from patients receiving TNFα inhibitors. Eighteen studies reported no TB infection cases in placebo and TNFα inhibitor treatment arms. TB infection risk was significantly increased among patients receiving TNFα inhibitors, with a risk difference of 0.028(95%CI: 0.0011-0.055). The odds ratio was 4.85(95%CI: 1.02-22.99) with EBC and 5.85(95%CI: 1.13-30.38) without EBC.CONCLUSION The risk of TB infection is higher among CD patients receiving TNFα inhibitors. 14The frequency and antimicrobial resistance patterns of nosocomial pathogens recovered from cancer patients and hospital environments显示文摘Objective:To determine the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance rates of nosocomial pathogens isolated from cancer patients and hospital environments.Methods:A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted between December 2010 to May 2013 at Radiation and Isotopes Centre of Khartoum,Sudan.A total of 1 503 samples(505 clinical and 998 environmental)were examined.Isolates were identified,and their antimicrobial susceptibility was determined using standard laboratory procedures.Results:Out of 505 clinical samples,nosocomial pathogens were found as 48.1%.Among hospital environment samples,bacterial contaminants were detected in 29.7%of samples.The main microorganisms recovered from cancer patients were Proteus spp.(23.5%),Escherichia coli(22.2%),Pseudomonas aeruginosa(P.aeruginosa)(21.0%)and Staphylococcus aureus(20.2%).The most frequent isolates from hospital environments were Bacillus spp.(50.0%),Staphylococcus aureus(14.2%)and P.aeruginosa(11.5%).The proportions of resistance among Gram-negative pathogens from cancer patients were high for ampicillin,cefotaxime,ceftazidime and ceftriaxone.Moderate resistance rates were recorded to ciprofloxacin,such as 51.0%for P.aeruginosa,21.7%for Klebsiella pneumoniae and 55.5%for Escherichia coli.Except Klebsiella,there were no significant differences(P0.05)of resistance rates between Gram-negative isolates from cancer patients to those from the hospital environments.The proportions of extended-spectrum b-lactamase producing isolates from cancer patients were not differ significantly(P=0.763)from those collected from the hospital environments(49.2%;91/185 vs.47%;32/68).Conclusions:The prevalence of nosocomial infection among cancer patients was high(48.1%)with the increasing of antimicrobial resistance rates.Hospital environments are potential reservoirs for nosocomial infections,which calls for intervention program to reduce environmental transmission of pathogens.Aymen Mudawe Nurain Naser Eldin Bilal Mutasim Elhadi Ibrahim 2015Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2015,5,12:4
15Comparison of dry reforming of methane in low temperature hybrid plasma-catalytic corona with thermal catalytic reactor over Ni/γ-Al_2O_3显示文摘In the current study,the hybrid effect of a corona discharge and γ-alumina supported Ni catalysts in CO2 reforming of methane is investigated.The study includes both purely catalytic operation in the temperature range of 923-1023K,and hybrid catalytic-plasma operation of DC corona discharge reactor at room temperature and ambient pressure.The effect of feed flow rate,discharge power and Ni/γ-Al2O3 catalysts are studied.When CH4/CO2 ratio in the feed is 1/2,the syngas of low H2/CO ratio at about 0.56 is obtained,which is a potential feedstock for synthesis of liquid hydrocarbons.Although Ni catalyst is only active above 573K,presence of Ni catalysts in the cold corona plasma reactor(T≤523K) shows promising increase in the conversions of methane and carbon dioxide.When Ni catalysts are used in the plasma reaction,H2/CO ratios in the products are slightly modified,selectivity to CO increases whereas fewer by-products such as hydrocarbons and oxygenates are formed.Amin Aziznia Hamid Reza Bozorgzadeh Naser Seyed-Matin Morteza Baghalha Ali Mohamadalizadeh 2012Journal of Natural Gas Chemistry2012,21,4:4

17Impacts of land uses on runoff and soil erosion A case study in Hilkot watershed Pakistan显示文摘In certain areas of the Hindu Kush-Himalayas(HKH),ecological situation is depleting day by day and approaching to the point of no return through gradual environmental degradation.Surface soil erosion from most of the areas is a serious threat to sustainable agriculture and sediment accumulation in down stream reservoirs.An extensive study in the Hilkot watershed,a catchment of Terbala Dam, was started by the People and Resource Dynamics Project in 1998.Main objectives of this study were to calculate annual runoff and soil losses from different land uses and compare their seasonal distribution at plot level.Four experimental plots based on land use classification(i.e.degraded, forests,agricultural,and pasture lands)were established.Area falls in the monsoon region,about 38% rainfall occurred in the monsoon period(July to September),while in the pre-monsoon(March to June)and the winter period(October to February)received 35%and 27%of the total rainfall, respectively.The annual rainfall in the watershed was 1160 mm.The runoff and soil loss pattern varied among different land use types.In all the erosion plots,almost 50%of the runoff and soil loss occurred during the monsoon period and was negligible during winter.The mean maximum runoff was from the degraded plot(674 m^3/ha/y),while minimum was observed from the pasture plot(310 m^3/ha/y).Average runoffs on other land uses were 529 and 460 m^3/ha/y,from the forest and agriculture plots,respectively.Annual soil loss from all land uses ranged between 0.3 to 16.3 t/ha. Average maximum soil loss was recorded from the degraded plot(6.5 t/ha/y)and average minimum (1.8 t/ha/y)was on the pasture plot.Similarly,average soil from other plots was 3.3 and 3.4 t/ha/y, measured from the forest and agricultural plots,respectively.ZOKAIB S. 18Preparation of transparent nanostructured N-doped TiO_2 thin films by combination of sonochemical and CVD methods with visible light photocatalytic activity显示文摘Pollution of water resources with pesticide compounds has raised serious environmental problems,and for photocatalytic degradation of these pollutants,thin film photocatalysts are preferred to colloidal ones due to the separation problem of colloidal nanoparticles.In this work,nanostructured TiO_2 and N-doped TiO_2 thin films with high transparency were deposited on glass and quartz substrates through sonochemical–chemical vapor deposition(CVD)method.The films prepared on glass and quartz substrates had nanocubic and nanospherical morphology,respectively.The presence of N atoms in the structure of TiO_2 resulted in a decrease in the band gap energy of TiO_2 and also in the reduction of photogenerated electron–hole recombination rate.Furthermore,the presence of N atoms induced the formation of Ti^(3+)species which can act as hole trapping centers.The prepared thin films were also used for the visible light photocatalytic degradation of paraoxon pesticide.According to these results among the prepared thin films,the N-doped TiO_2 thin films have higher photocatalytic activity than pure TiO_2 thin films.Moreover,in comparison with the thin films deposited on quartz substrate,the films on glass substrate have higher photocatalytic performance,which can be related to the special nanocubic morphology of these samples.Hossein RASOULNEZHAD Ghader HOSSEINZADEH Reza HOSSEINZADEH Naser GHASEMIAN 2018Journal of Advanced Ceramics2018,7,3:4
19Interrelationship between Toll-like receptors and infection after orthotopic liver transplantation显示文摘Early microbial recognition by the innate immune system is accomplished by Toll-like receptors(TLRs),with resultant initiation of a pro-inflammatory response against infecting organisms.In spite of presence of an abundance of Toll-like receptors on the surface of the liver,gut bacteria does not elicit an inflammatory reaction in healthy individuals due to tolerance to these TLRs,suggesting that the inflammatory responses seen in the liver are the result of breakdown of this tolerance.While orthotopic liver transplantation is often life saving in many instances,death following this procedure is most commonly due to infection that occurs in up to 80%of transplant recipients,most commonly due to microbial causes in up to 70%of cases and viral infections in 20%,while fungal infections affect only 8%of cases.The probability of acquiring infection following hepatic transplantation is heightened due to affection of the innate immune defense mechanisms of the host following this procedure.Single nucleotide polymorphisms of TLRs have been associated with increased likelihood of either development of post-transplant infection or eradication of infecting organism.However,conflicting reports from other studies reveal that prevalence of this single nucleotide polymorphism is not increased in infected patients.Mahmoud El-Bendary Mustafa Naemattalah Ahmed Yassen Naser Mousa Dina Elhammady Ahmed M Sultan Mohamed Abdel-Wahab 2020World Journal of Transplantation2020,10,6:3
