1Synergetic Improvement of Interlaminar Fracture Toughness in Carbon Fiber/Epoxy Composites Interleaved with PES/PEK‑C Hybrid Nanofiber Veils显示文摘In this study,two types of soluble thermoplastic resins were added to epoxy resin at a fixed weight ratio to prepare a three-phase cast body.The cast was then manufactured into hybrid nanofiber as interleaves for interlaminar toughening of carbon fiber/epoxy resin(CF/EP)composites using a co-solvent method.The results revealed that when the hybrid components reached 15 wt%,Polyethersulfone(PES)and polyaryletherketone cardo(PEK-C)exhibited the best synergistic toughening effect,and the fracture toughness increased by 99.8%and 39.8%,respectively,compared with the reference or the same proportion of the single PES toughened sample.We used PES/PEK-C hybrid nanofibers with an areal density of 19.2 g per square meter(gsm)as composite toughening layers.Apart from the lack of significant influence of PES nanofiber on CF/EP composites,the interlaminar fracture toughness of mode I and mode II layers increased by 88.3%and 46.9%,respectively,compared to the reference sample.Scanning Electron Microscopy of the fracture surface and cross-section micromorphology of the laminate displayed that the thermoplastic microspheres of different sizes contribute differently to crack resistance:PEK-C consumes more energy due to the debonding and extraction of microspheres and resin,whereas the presence of the PES phase can induce more plastic deformation and crack deflection.Jinli Zhou Chenyu Zhang Chao Cheng Ming Wang Zhihui Yang Yanfei Yang Hongying Yang Muhuo Yu 2022Advanced Fiber Materials2022,4,5:3
2A New Way of Strengthening and Toughening for Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polyphenylene Sulfide(CF/PPS) Composites via Matrix Modification显示文摘The effect of pressure-induced flow(PIF) processing on the mechanical properties of noncontinuous carbon fiber(CF) reinforced polyphenylene sulfide(PPS) composites was investigated. A series of CF/PPS composites under different processing conditions were prepared through PIF-processing. SEM observations showed that the interfaces adhesion between CFs and PPS became stronger and ductile fracture mainly occurred in PPS matrix. This brought to a great increase of both strength and toughness by about 2 folds, when the composites were processed at 240 ℃ and under 263 MPa. 7Microstructural and Mechanical Characterization of SiBNC Coated Carbon Fibers Prepared via PIP Method显示文摘The preparation of SiBNC ceramic oxidation-resistant coating on carbon fiber via precursorsolution infiltration and pyrolysis(PIP) method was presented and discussed in detail. Moreover, the microstructures and the components of the coating were characterized. The experiment results showed that the 0.5% polyborosilazane(PBSZ) solution in the coating preparation gave fewer defects, in contrast with the 1% and the 5% PBSZ solutions. The strength of the carbon fiber coated with SiBNC-0.5 wt%(3.08 GPa) was decreased by 12%. Compared with uncoated carbon fiber, the starting oxidation temperature and the reaction activation energy of the coated carbon fibers(SiBNC-0.5 wt%) have increased by about 300 ℃ and 104%, respectively. 14Preparation of Modified Poly(ethylene terephthalate) Fibers and Their Properties of Ultraviolet Radiation Protection显示文摘Protection against solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR)among the general public has been increasing steadily.Poly( ethylene terephthalate) (PET) was blended with UVR protection agent and was spun into the modified fibers with the properties of UVR protection. An investigation on the properties using an ultraviolet spectrophotometer showed that the modified PET fabrics could be resistant to UVR more than 90% in the band of UV-B.
