Kinetics of chemical leaching of chalcopyrite from low grade copper ore: behavior of different size fractions显示文摘The kinetics of the chemical leaching of copper from low grade ore in ferric sulfate media was investigated using the constrained least square optimization technique. The experiments were carried out for different particle sizes in both the reactor and column at constant oxidation-reduction potential (Eh), pH values, and temperature. The main copper mineral was chalcopyrite. About 40% of Cu recovery is obtained after 7 d of reactor leaching at 85℃ using -0.5 mm size fraction, while the same recovery is obtained at 75℃ after 24 d. Also, about 23% of Cu recovery is obtained after 60 d of column leaching for +4--8 mm size fraction whereas the Cu recovery is as low as about 15% for +8--12.7 and +12.7--25 mm size fractions. A 4-stage model for chalcopyrite dissolution was used to explain the observed dissolution behaviors. The results show that thick over-layers of sulphur components cause the parabolic behavior of chalcopyrite dissolution and the precipitation of Fe3+ plays the main role in chalcopyrite passivation. In the case of coarse particles, transformation from one stage to another takes a longer time, thus only two stages including the initial reaction on fresh surfaces and S0 deposition are observed. | H. | 2 | Characterization of the bubbling fluidization of nanoparticles显示文摘The dynamic features of an agglomerate bubbling fluidization of nanoparticles were investigated through the analysis of pressure fluctuations.Experiments were carried out in a lab-scale fluidized bed at ambient conditions using 10-15 nm silica nanoparticles without any surface modification.Pressure fluctuation signals were processed in both frequency and time-frequency domains to characterize the behavior of various scales of phenomena(i.e.,macro-,meso-,and micro-structures) during fluidization.Due to the aggregation of nanoparticles, three separate broad peaks were observed in the frequency spectra of the pressure signals measured in the bubbling fluidized bed of nanoparticles.A non-intrusive method based on the decoupling of pressure fluctuations recorded simultaneously in the plenum and in the bed was used to determine the approximate size of the bubbles in the bed. | Mohammad R.Tamadondar Reza Zarghami Maryam Tahmasebpoor Navid Mostoufi | 2014 | Particuology2014,12,5: | 6
Insights in hydrodynamics of bubbling fluidized beds at elevated pressure by DEM-CFD approach显示文摘A numerical simulation was conducted to study the effect of pressure on bubble dynamics in a gas-solid fluidized bed.The gas flow was modeled using the continuum theory and the solid phase,by the dis-crete element method(DEM).To validate the simulation results, calculated local pressure fluctuations were compared with corresponding experimental data of 1-mm polyethylene particles. It was shown that the model successfully predicts the hydrodynamic features of the fluidized bed as observed in the experiments.Influence of pressure on bubble rise characteristics such as bubble rise path, bubble sta- bility, average bubbles diameter and bubble velocity through the bed was investigated. The simulation results are in conformity with current hydrodynamic theories and concepts for fluidized beds at high pressures. The results show further that elevated pressure reduces bubble growth, velocity and stability and enhances bubble gyration through the bed, leading to change in bed flow structure. | Zahra Mansourpour Sedighe Karimi Reza Zarghami Navid Mostoufi Rahmat Sotudeh-Gharebagh | 2010 | Particuology2010,8,5: | 5
Dynamics and Predictive Control of Gas Phase Propylene Polymerization in Fluidized Bed Reactors显示文摘A two-phase dynamic model, describing gas phase propylene polymerization in a fluidized bed reactor, was used to explore the dynamic behavior and process control of the polypropylene production rate and reactor temperature. The open loop analysis revealed the nonlinear behavior of the polypropylene fluidized bed reactor, justifying the use of an advanced control algorithm for efficient control of the process variables. In this case,a centralized model predictive control(MPC) technique was implemented to control the polypropylene production rate and reactor temperature by manipulating the catalyst feed rate and cooling water flow rate respectively. The corresponding MPC controller was able to track changes in the setpoint smoothly for the reactor temperature and production rate while the setpoint tracking of the conventional proportional-integral(PI) controller was oscillatory with overshoots and obvious interaction between the reactor temperature and production rate loops. The MPC was able to produce controller moves which not only were well within the specified input constraints for both control variables, but also non-aggressive and sufficiently smooth for practical implementations.Furthermore, the closed loop dynamic simulations indicated that the speed of rejecting the process disturbances for the MPC controller were also acceptable for both controlled variables. | Ahmad Shamiri Mohamed azlan Hussain Farouq sabri Mjalli Navid Mostoufi Seyedahmad Hajimolana~ | 2013 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2013,21,9: | 4
Experimental investigation of cluster properties in dense gas-solid fluidized beds of different diameters显示文摘The local solid flow structure of a bubbling fluidized bed of sand particles was investigated in three different columns to characterize the properties of clusters. The experiments were performed using a reflective optical fiber probe. The variations in size, velocity, and void fraction of the clusters due to changes in the superficial gas velocity, particle size, and radial positions were studied. The results indicate that the velocity of the clusters remained unchanged while their size increased as the column diameter increased. In addition, the radial profile of the clusters' velocity did not depend on the radial position. The results indicate that larger particles form larger clusters, which move slower. | Niloufar Firuzian Rahmat Sotudeh-Gharebagh Navid Mostoufi | 2014 | Particuology2014,12,5: | 3
Multi-scale analysis of flow structures in fluidized beds with immersed tubes显示文摘Multi-scale analysis and non-linear analysis were combined to investigate the hydrodynamics of fluidized beds with and without horizontal tubes.Pressure fluctuations were measured and analyzed employing discrete wavelet analysis, recurrence plot analysis, and recurrence quantification analysis.A systematic procedure was followed to determine wavelet parameters. At low gas velocities, the energy of macrostructures reduces with the addition of the first tube and then increases with the addition of a second tube. However, there is no notable difference at high gas velocities.Determinism is high for the bed without tubes, which can be attributed to the periodic behavior of bubbles.Determinism decreases with the addition of tubes because the breakage of bubbles results in less periodic behavior. The three methods of analysis used in this study captured the effects of immersed tubes on the hydrodynamics of fluidized beds.Recurrence quantitative analysis was found to be a powerful and easy-to-use method that can capture the nonlinear characteristics of fluidized beds much more quickly than conventional methods of nonlinear analysis. This method can thus be effectively used for the online monitoring of hydrodynamic changes in fluidized beds. | Hamid R.Norouzi Maryam Tahmasebpoor Reza Zarghami Navid Mostoufi | 2015 | Particuology2015,13,4: | 2

Using S-statistic for investigating the effect of temperature on hydrodynamics of gas-solid fluidization显示文摘The influence of temperature on fluidization was investigated by a statistical chaotic attractor comparison test known as S-statistic.After calibration of the variables used in this method, the S-test was applied to the radioactive particle tracking(RPT) data obtained from a lab-scale fluidized bed.Experiments were performed with sand as fluidized particles and in temperatures from ambient up to 600 ℃ with superficial gas velocities of 0.29,0.38 and 0.52 m/s.Considering the behavior of bubbles and comparing with frequency domain analysis,it was concluded that S-statistic is a reliable method for characterization of fluidization process behavior at different temperatures. | Mohammad Reza Tamadondar Reza Zarghami Hedayat Azizpour Navid Mostoufi Jamal Chaouki Ramin Radmanesh | 2013 | Particuology2013,11,3: | 1
