1Characterization of Nitrogen Uptake Pattern in Malaysian Rice MR219 at Different Growth Stages Using ^(15)N Isotope显示文摘Nitrogen(N) use efficiency is usually less than 50%, and it remains a major problem in rice cultivation. Controlled release fertilizer(CRF) technology is one of the well-known efforts to overcome this problem. The efficiency of CRF, however, is very much dependent on the timing of nutrient release. This study was conducted to determine the precise time of N uptake by rice as a guideline to develop efficient CRF. Fertilizer N uptake by rice at different growth stages was investigated by using 15 N isotopic technique. Rice was planted in pots, with 15 N urea as N source at the rate of 120 kg/hm2. Potassium and phosphorus were applied at the same rate of 50 kg/hm2. Standard agronomic practices were employed throughout the growing periods. Rice plants were harvested every two weeks until maturation at the 14 th week and analyzed for total N and 15 N content. Nitrogen derived from fertilizer was calculated. Total N uptake in plants consistently increased until the 11 th week. After that, it started to plateau and finally declined. Moreover, N utilization by rice plants peaked at 50%, which occurred during the 11 th week after transplanting. N derived from fertilizer in rice plants were in the range of 18.7% to 40.0% in all plant tissues. The remaining N was derived from soil. Based on this study, N release from CRF should complete by the 11 th week after planting to ensure the maximum fertilizer N uptake by rice plants. Efficient CRF should contribute to higher N derived from fertilizer which also resulted in a higher total N uptake by rice plants, increasing the potential of rice to produce higher yield while at the same time of reducing loss.Mohammad Mu'az HASHIM Mohd Khanif YUSOP Radziah OTHMAN Samsuri Abdul WAHID 2015Rice science2015,22,5:3

3Probing the dynamic structural changes of DNA using ultrafast laser pulse in graphene-based optofluidic device显示文摘The ultrafast monitoring of deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA)dynamic structural changes is an emerging and rapidly growing research topic in biotechnology. The existing optical spectroscopy used to identify different dynamical DNA structures lacks quick response while requiring large consumption of samples and bulky instrumental facilities. It is highly demanded to develop an ultrafast technique that monitors DNA structural changes with the external stimulus or cancer-related disease scenarios. Here,we demonstrate a novel photonic integrated graphene-optofluidic device to monitor DNA structural changes with the ultrafast response time. Our approach is featured with an effective and straightforward design of decoding the electronic structure change of graphene induced by its interactions with DNAs in different conformations using ultrafast nanosecond pulse laser and achieving refractive index sensitivity of~3×10^(−5) RIU.This innovative technique for the first time allows us to perform ultrafast monitoring of the conformational changes of special DNA molecules structures, including G-quadruplex formation by K+ions and i-motif formation by the low pH stimulus. The graphene-optofluidic device as presented here provides a new class of label-free,ultrafast,ultrasensitive,compact,and cost-effective optical biosensors for medical and healthcare applications.Bannur NShivananju Lu Zhou Yuefeng Yin Wenzhi Yu Babar Shabbir Haoran Mu Xiaozhi Bao Yiqiu Zhang Sun Tian Qingdong Ou Shaojuan Li Mohammad MHossain Yupeng Zhang Huaiyu Shao Guichuan Xing Nikhil V.Medhekar Chang-Ming Li Jian Liu Qiaoliang Bao 2021InfoMat2021,3,3:1
4Synthesis and characterization of a series of cross-linked polyamines for removal of Erichrome Black T from aqueous solution显示文摘A new series of polymers comprising four terpolymers was synthesized via Mannich polycondensation of benzene1,4diamine,formaldehyde and piperazine by varying the benzene1,4diamine and piperazine ratio. The new polyamines(labeled Dipip)were characterized using 13C solidstate NMR,FTIR,TGA,DSC,XRD,SEM and EDX.The adsorptive performances of the synthesized polymers for Erichrome Black T(EBT)uptake from aqueous solution were investigated under batch process.Equilibrium, kinetic, and thermodynamic studies were conducted to determine the influence of different operational parameters of the adsorption process. The two most promising polymers among the series show an excellent EBT removal efficiency of~100%and~95%with high adsorption capacities of 775 mgg 1 and 917 mgg 1,respectively at a meager dosage of 5 mg.The sorption of EBT on the polymers was well described by RedlichPeterson&Langmuir model while the kinetic studies indicate that pseudosecond order model was followed. For the thermodynamic studies, the negative AG and positive AH values obtained suggest a spontaneity of the sorption process which was endothermic in nature. The results of reusability test of the resins were promising even at the fourth cycle, showcasing the potentials of the new polymers in dyes contaminated water treatment.Mohammad Saood Manzar Shamsuddeen A.Haladu Mukarram Zubair Nuhu Dalhat Mu’azu Aleem Qureshi Nawaf I.Blaisi Thomas FGarrison Othman Charles S.Al Hamouz 2021Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2021,34,4:0

6Analgesic effects and hemodynamic mechanisms of perpendicular and transverse needling at Sanyinjiao(SP 6) in patients with primary dysmenorrhea: A randomized controlled trial显示文摘Objective: To explore the analgesic effects and uterine hemodynamics of perpendicular needling(PN)and transverse needling(TN) at SP 6 in patients with primary dysmenorrhea(PD).Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, patients with PD diagnosed with cold-dampness congealing pattern were randomly assigned in a ratio of 1:1 to receive PN or TN at bilateral SP 6 for 10 min.Acupuncture was performed when the menstrual pain score was over 40 mm on the first day of menstruation, as measured using the visual analog scale for pain(VAS-P). The primary outcome was average menstrual pain(VAS-P). Secondary outcomes included the pulsatility index(PI), resistance index(RI), and systolic-diastolic peaks ratio(S/D) in uterine arteries as measured using color Doppler ultrasonography;anxiety as assessed using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale(HAMA), blood pressure(BP),and heart rate(HR).Results: Forty-eight patients completed the study. The TN group exhibited a significant reduction in VAS-P scores(-5.71 mm, 95% confidence interval(CI): -8.78, -2.63, P =.001), RI values(-0.05, 95% CI:-0.09, -0.01, P=.015), and HAMA values(-2.50, 95% CI: -4.78, -0.22, P=.032) when compared with the PN group. No significant differences in PI, S/D, BP, or HR values were observed between the two groups(P >.05).Conclusion: TN at SP 6 was superior to PN in alleviating menstrual pain and anxiety in patients with PD.This analgesic effect of TN may be due to its better ability to improve uterine arterial blood flow via decreases in RI values.Ali Mohammadi Mohammad Reza Afshari Fard Liangxiao Ma Jiedan Mu Tianyi Sun Wenyan Yu Sanaz Dehghani Mohammad Hossein Ayati 2021Journal of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences2021,8,3:0
