| 1 | Features and Formation Mechanism of Faults and Potash-forming Effect in the Lop Nur Salt Lake,Xinjiang,China显示文摘The Lop Nur Salt Lake, located in the eastern part of the Tarim Basin, Xinjiang, China, has become a playa in the Quaternary. Rhombic in shape, the Lop Nur depression is mainly controlled by the NE-striking and nearly N-S-striking sets of faults. Since 1995, a superlarge brine potash deposit with potash resources of 2.50×108 t has been found in the Luobei subbasin in the northeastern part of the Lop Nur. We intensively studied the features and formation mechanism of faults inside the Lop Nur through satellite images, geomorphologic survey and continuous conductivity imaging and found seven subparallel graben faults formed under the action of nearly N 10o E principal compressional stress during deposition of the Lop Nur Salt Lake. These faults are up to >60 km long and 1–4 km wide and may extend downward for 1000 m or more. It is just under the action of these tensional faults that potash subbasins formed. The largest subbasin is the Luobei subbasin and the smaller ones are the Luoxi hollow, Erbei hollow and Tienan hollow. Investigation also indicates that the graben faults in the Lop Nur not only control the origin of the potash subbasins, but they themselves are also good brine reservoir structures, in which abundant potash-rich brines are stored. | 3 | Determination of 15 phthalate esters in air by gas-phase and particle-phase simultaneous sampling显示文摘Based on previous research,the sampling and analysis methods for phthalate esters(PAEs)were improved by increasing the sampling flow of indoor air from 1 to 4 L/min,shortening the sampling duration from 8 to 2 hr. Meanwhile,through the optimization of chromatographic conditions,the concentrations of 9 additional PAE pollutants in indoor air were measured. The optimized chromatographic conditions required a similar amount of time for analysis as before,but gave high responsivity,the capability of simultaneously distinguishing 15 kinds of PAEs,and a high level of discrimination between individual sample peaks,as well as stable peak generation. The recovery rate of all gas-phase and particle-phase samples of the 15 kinds of PAEs ranged from 91.26% to 109.42%,meeting the quantitative analysis requirements for indoor and outdoor air sampling and analysis. For the first time,investigation of the concentration levels as well as characteristics of 15 kinds of PAEs in the indoor air from four different traffic micro-environments(private vehicles,busses,taxis and subways)was carried out,along with validation of the optimized sampling and analytical method. The results show that all the 9 additional PAEs could be detected at relatively high pollution levels in the indoor air from the four traffic micro-environments. | 5 | Non-pulmonary allergic diseases and inflammatory bowel disease: A qualitative review显示文摘While the etiological underpinnings of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) are highly complex, it has been not-ed that both clinical and pathophysiological similarities exist between IBD and both asthma and non-pulmonary allergic phenomena. In this review, several key points on common biomarkers, pathophysiology, clinical manifesta-tions and nutritional and probiotic interventions for both IBD and non-pulmonary allergic diseases are discussed.Histamine and mast cell activity show common behav-iors in both IBD and in certain allergic disorders. IgE also represents a key immunoglobulin involved in both IBD and in certain allergic pathologies, though these links require further study. Probiotics remain a critically important intervention for both IBD subtypes as well as multiple allergic phenomena. Linked clinical phenomena, especially sinonasal disease and IBD, are discussed. In addition, nutritional interventions remain an underuti-lized and promising therapy for modification of both al-lergic disorders and IBD. Recommending new mothers breastfeed their infants, and increasing the duration of breastfeeding may also help prevent both IBD and al-lergic diseases, but requires more investigation. | 8 | Effect of pioglitazone on nerve conduction velocity of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel in type 2 diabetes patients显示文摘AIM To evaluate the impact of pioglitazone pharmacotherapy in median nerve electrophysiology in the carpal tunnel among type 2 diabetes patients.METHODS The study was executed in patients with type 2 diabetes, treated with oral drugs, categorized under pioglitazone or non-pioglitazone group(14 in each group), and who received electrophysiological evaluation by nerve conduction velocity at baseline and 3 mo.RESULTS At 3 mo, pioglitazone-category had inferior amplitude in sensory median nerve [8.5 interquartile range(IQR) = 6.5 to 11.5) vs non-pioglitazone 14.5(IQR 10.5 to 18.75)](P = 0.002). Non-pioglitazone category displayed amelioration in amplitude in the sensory median nerve [baseline 13(IQR = 9 to 16.25) vs 3 mo 8.5(IQR = 6.5 to 11.5)](P = 0.01) and amplitude in motor median nerve [baseline 9(IQR = 4.75 to 11) vs 3 mo 6.75(IQR = 4.75 to 10.25)](P = 0.049); and deterioration of terminal latency of in motor ulnar nerve [baseline 2.07(IQR = 1.92 to 2.25) vs 3 mo 2.16(IQR = 1.97 to 2.325)](P = 0.043). There was amelioration of terminal latency in sensory ulnar nerve [baseline 2.45(IQR = 2.315 to 2.88) vs 3 mo 2.37(IQR = 2.275 to 2.445) for pioglitazone group(P = 0.038).CONCLUSION Treatment with pioglitazone accentuates probability of compressive neuropathy. In spite of comparable glycemic control over 3 mo, patients treated with pioglitazone showed superior electrophysiological parameters for the ulnar nerve.
