1Platelet-rich plasma,an adjuvant biological therapy to assist peripheral nerve repair显示文摘Therapies such as direct tension-free microsurgical repair or transplantation of a nerve autograft,are nowadays used to treat traumatic peripheral nerve injuries(PNI),focused on the enhancement of the intrinsic regenerative potential of injured axons.However,these therapies fail to recreate the suitable cellular and molecular microenvironment of peripheral nerve repair and in some cases,the functional recovery of nerve injuries is incomplete.Thus,new biomedical engineering strategies based on tissue engineering approaches through molecular intervention and scaffolding offer promising outcomes on the field.In this sense,evidence is accumulating in both,preclinical and clinical settings,indicating that platelet-rich plasma products,and fibrin scaffold obtained from this technology,hold an important therapeutic potential as a neuroprotective,neurogenic and neuroinflammatory therapeutic modulator system,as well as enhancing the sensory and motor functional nerve muscle unit recovery.Mikel Sánchez Ane Garate Diego Delgado Sabino Padilla 2017Neural Regeneration Research2017,12,1:12
2Arachidyl amido cholanoic acid improves liver glucose and lipid homeostasis in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis via AMPK and mTOR regulation显示文摘BACKGROUND Arachidyl amido cholanoic acid(Aramchol)is a potent downregulator of hepatic stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1(SCD1)protein expression that reduces liver triglycerides and fibrosis in animal models of steatohepatitis.In a phase IIb clinical trial in patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH),52 wk of treatment with Aramchol reduced blood levels of glycated hemoglobin A1c,an indicator of glycemic control.AIM To assess lipid and glucose metabolism in mouse hepatocytes and in a NASH mouse model[induced with a 0.1%methionine and choline deficient diet(0.1MCD)]after treatment with Aramchol.METHODS Isolated primary mouse hepatocytes were incubated with 20μmol/L Aramchol or vehicle for 48 h.Subsequently,analyses were performed including Western blot,proteomics by mass spectrometry,and fluxomic analysis with 13C-uniformly labeled glucose.For the in vivo part of the study,male C57BL/6J mice were randomly fed a control or 0.1MCD for 4 wk and received 1 or 5 mg/kg/d Aramchol or vehicle by intragastric gavage for the last 2 wk.Liver metabolomics were assessed using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-time of flight-MS for the determination of glucose metabolism-related metabolites.RESULTS Combination of proteomics and Western blot analyses showed increased AMPK activity while the activity of nutrient sensor mTORC1 was decreased by Aramchol in hepatocytes.This translated into changes in the content of their downstream targets including proteins involved in fatty acid(FA)synthesis and oxidation[PACCα/β(S79),SCD1,CPT1A/B,HADHA,and HADHB],oxidative phosphorylation(NDUFA9,NDUFB11,NDUFS1,NDUFV1,ETFDH,and UQCRC2),tricarboxylic acid(TCA)cycle(MDH2,SUCLA2,and SUCLG2),and ribosome(P-p70S6K[T389]and P-S6[S235/S236]).Flux experiments with 13Cuniformely labeled glucose showed that TCA cycle cataplerosis was reduced by Aramchol in hepatocytes,as indicated by the increase in the number of rounds that malate remained in the TCA cycle.Finally,liver metabolomic analysis showed that glucose homeostasis was improved by Aramchol in 0.1MCD fed mice in a dose-dependent manner,showing normalization of glucose,G6P,F6P,UDP-glucose,and Rbl5P/Xyl5P.CONCLUSION Aramchol exerts its effect on glucose and lipid metabolism in NASH through activation of AMPK and inhibition of mTORC1,which in turn activate FAβ-oxidation and oxidative phosphorylation.David Fernández-Ramos Fernando Lopitz-Otsoa Laura Delacruz-Villar Jon Bilbao Martina Pagano Laura Mosca Maider Bizkarguenaga Marina Serrano-Macia Mikel Azkargorta Marta Iruarrizaga-Lejarreta Jesús Sot Darya Tsvirkun Sebastiaan Martijn van Liempd Felix M Goni Cristina Alonso María Luz Martínez-Chantar Felix Elortza Liat Hayardeny Shelly C Lu JoséM Mato 2020World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,34:5
3Beta-blocker therapy in elderly patients with renal dysfunction and heart failure显示文摘OBJECTIVE To assess the role of beta-blockers(BB)in patients with chronic kidney disease(CKD)aged≥75 years.METHODS AND RESULTS From January 2008 to July 2014,we included 390 consecutive patients≥75 years of age with ejection fraction≤35%and glomerular filtration rate(GFR)≤60 m L/min per 1.73 m^2.We analyzed the relationship between treatment with BB and mortality or cardiovascular events.The mean age of our population was 82.6±4.1 years.Mean ejection fraction was 27.9%±6.5%.GFR was 60-45 m L/min per 1.73 m^2 in 50.3%of patients,45-30 m L/min per 1.73 m^2 in 37.4%,and<30 m L/min per 1.73 m^2 in 12.3%.At the conclusion of follow-up,67.4%of patients were receiving BB.The median follow-up was28.04(IR:19.41-36.67)months.During the study period,211 patients(54.1%)died and 257(65.9%)had a major cardiovascular event(death or hospitalization for heart failure).BB use was significantly associated with a reduced risk of death(HR=0.51,95%CI:0.35-0.74;P<0.001).Patients receiving BB consistently showed a reduced risk of death across the different stages of CKD:stage IIIa(GFR=30-45 m L/min per 1.73 m^2;HR=0.47,95%CI:0.26-0.86,P<0.0001),stage IIIb(GFR 30-45 m L/min per 1.73 m^2;HR=0.55,95%CI:0.26-1.06,P=0.007),and stages IV and V(GFR<30 m L/min per 1.73 m~2;HR=0.29,95%CI:0.11-0.76;P=0.047).CONCLUSIONS The use of BB in elderly patients with HFr EF and renal impairment was associated with a better prognosis.Use of BB should be encouraged when possible.Juan Martínez-Milla Marcelino Cortés García Julia Anna Palfy Mikel Taibo Urquía Marta López Castillo Ana Devesa Arbiol Ana Lucía Rivero Monteagudo María Luisa Martín Mariscal Inés Jiménez-Varas Sem Briongos Figuero Juan Antonio Franco-Pelaéz JoséTuñón 2021Journal of Geriatric Cardiology2021,18,1:3
4Food groups, diet quality and colorectal cancer risk in the Basque Country显示文摘BACKGROUND The results obtained to date concerning food groups,diet quality and colorectal cancer(CRC)risk vary according to criteria used and the study populations.AIM To study the relationships between food groups,diet quality and CRC risk,in an adult population of the Basque Country(North of Spain).METHODS This observational study included 308 patients diagnosed with CRC and 308 ageand sex-matched subjects as controls.During recruitment,dietary,anthropometric,lifestyle,socioeconomic,demographic and health status information was collected.Adherence to the dietary recommendations was evaluated utilizing the Healthy Eating Index for the Spanish Diet and the MedDietScore.Conditional logistic regressions were used to evaluate the associations of food group intakes,diet quality scores,categorized in tertiles,with CRC risk.RESULTS The adjusted models for potential confounding factors showed a direct association between milk and dairy products consumption,in particular high-fat cheeses[odds ratio(OR)third tertile vs first tertile=1.87,95%confidence intervals(CI):1.11-3.16],and CRC risk.While the consumption of fiber-containing foods,especially whole grains(OR third tertile vs first tertile=0.62,95%CI:0.39-0.98),and fatty fish(OR third tertile vs first tertile=0.53,95%CI:0.27-0.99)was associated with a lower risk for CRC.Moreover,higher MD adherence was associated with a reduced CRC risk in adjusted models(OR third tertile vs first tertile=0.40,95%CI:0.20-0.80).CONCLUSION Direct associations were found for high-fat cheese,whereas an inverse relation was reported for fiber-containing foods and fatty fish,as well as adherence to a Mediterranean dietary pattern.Iker Alegria-Lertxundi Carmelo Aguirre Luis Bujanda Francisco J Fernandez Francisco Polo JoseMªOrdovas MªCarmen Etxezarraga Inaki Zabalza Mikel Larzabal Isabel Portillo Marian M de Pancorbo Koldo Garcia-Etxebarria Ana MªRocandio Marta Arroyo-Izaga 2020World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,28:3

6Elutriation, attrition and segregation in a conical spouted bed with a fountain confiner显示文摘This study examined elutriation,attrition,and segregation in a conical spouted bed with a fountain confiner and incorporating an open sided draft tube.Fine silica sand with a wide particle size distribution was employed as a model material,operating in both the batch and continuous modes.The use of a fountain confiner is crucial when operating with fine particles,because otherwise the bed rapidly exhibits significant entrainment.The extent of attrition was quantified using a tracing technique based on differently-coloured sand fractions as well as monitoring size distributions by sieving.Particle breakage was found to be the primary attrition mechanism,and the fountain confiner was determined to limit the elutriation of fine particles resulting from breakage.Consequently,only a small fraction of the finest particles were entrained from the bed.The incorporation of a confiner increased operational stability while reducing segregation,especially in the upper half of the bed where the majority of segregation typically occurs.Thus,the bed was perfectly mixed apart from very minimal segregation close to the wall and at the bottom of the contactor.These results provide a basis for the design and operation of larger scale equipment for the continuous drying of materials.Aitor Pablos Roberto Aguado Jorge Vicente Mikel Tellabide Javier Bilbao Martin Olazar 2020Particuology2020,18,4:2
7Multi-objective Optimization of Production Scheduling Using Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm for Hybrid Renewable Power Plants with Battery Energy Storage System显示文摘Considering the increasing integration of renewable energies into the power grid,batteries are expected to play a key role in the challenge of compensating the stochastic and intermittent nature of these energy sources.Besides,the deployment of batteries can increase the benefits of a renewable power plant.One way to increase the profits with batteries studied in this paper is performing energy arbitrage.This strategy is based on storing energy at low electricity price moments and selling it when electricity price is high.In this paper,a hybrid renewable energy system consisting of wind and solar power with batteries is studied,and an optimization process is conducted in order to maximize the benefits regarding the dayahead production scheduling of the plant.A multi-objective cost function is proposed,which,on the one hand,maximizes the obtained profit,and,on the other hand,reduces the loss of value of the battery.A particle swarm optimization algorithm is developed and fitted in order to solve this non-linear multi-objective function.With the aim of analyzing the importance of considering both the energy efficiency of the battery and its loss of value,two more simplified cost functions are proposed.Results show the importance of including the energy efficiency in the cost function to optimize.Besides,it is proven that the battery lifetime increases substantially by using the multi-objective cost function,whereas the profitability is similar to the one obtained in case the loss of value is not considered.Finally,due to the small difference in price among hours in the analyzed Iberian electricity market,it is observed that low profits can be provided to the plant by using batteries just for arbitrage purposes in the day-ahead market.Jon Martinez-Rico Ekaitz Zulueta Ismael Ruiz de Argandona Unai Femandez-Gamiz Mikel Armendia 2021Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy2021,9,2:2

12Enhanced magnetic modulation of light polarization exploiting hybridization with multipolar dark plasmons in magnetoplasmonic nanocavities显示文摘Enhancing magneto-optical effects is crucial for reducing the size of key photonic devices based on the non-reciprocal propagation of light and to enable active nanophotonics.Here,we disclose a currently unexplored approach that exploits hybridization with multipolar dark modes in specially designed magnetoplasmonic nanocavities to achieve a large enhancement of the magneto-optically induced modulation of light polarization.The broken geometrical symmetry of the design enables coupling with free-space light and hybridization of the multipolar dark modes of a plasmonic ring nanoresonator with the dipolar localized plasmon resonance of the ferromagnetic disk placed inside the ring.This hybridization results in a low-radiant multipolar Fano resonance that drives a strongly enhanced magneto-optically induced localized plasmon.The large amplification of the magneto-optical response of the nanocavity is the result of the large magneto-optically induced change in light polarization produced by the strongly enhanced radiant magneto-optical dipole,which is achieved by avoiding the simultaneous enhancement of reemitted light with incident polarization by the multipolar Fano resonance.The partial compensation of the magnetooptically induced polarization change caused by the large re-emission of light with the original polarization is a critical limitation of the magnetoplasmonic designs explored thus far and that is overcome by the approach proposed here.Alberto Lopez-Ortega Mario Zapata-Herrera Nicolo Maccaferri Matteo Pancaldi Mikel Garcia Andrey Chuvilin Paolo Vavassori 2020Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1:2

14Is device-measured vigorous physical activity associated with health-related outcomes in children and adolescents? A systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘Objective:This study sought to analyze the prospective association between vigorous-intensity physical activity(VPA)and health-related outcomes in children and adolescents.Methods:Studies reporting associations between device-measured VPA and health-related factors in children and adolescents aged 318 years were identified through database searches(MEDLINE,EMBASE,and SPORTDiscus).Correlation coefficients were pooled if outcomes were reported by at least 3 studies,using DerSimonian-Laird random effects models.Results:Data from 23 studies including 13,674 participants were pooled using random effects models.Significant associations were found between VPA at baseline and overall adiposity(r=0.09,95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.15 to0.03;p=0.002;I^(2)=89.8%),cardiometabolic risk score(r=0.13,95%CI:0.24 to0.02,p=0.020;I^(2)=69.6%),cardiorespiratory fitness(r=0.25,95%CI:0.150.35;p<0.001;I^(2)=57.2%),and total body bone mineral density(r=0.16,95%CI:0.06 to 0.25;p=0.001;I^(2)=0%).Conclusion:VPA seems to be negatively related to adiposity and cardiometabolic risk score and positively related to cardiorespiratory fitness and total body bone mineral density among children and adolescents at follow-up.Therefore,our findings support the need to strengthen physical activity recommendations regarding VPA due to its health benefits in children and adolescents.Antonio Garcia-Hermoso Yasmin Ezzatvar Robinson Ramirez-Velez Jordi Olloquequi Mikel Izquierdo 2021Journal of Sport and Health Science2021,10,3:2
