1Great progress in study on aerosol and its impact on the global environment显示文摘The transport from atmosphere is a more important pathway than that from rivers for certain elements and compounds in the remote ocean. The desert and those arid/semi-arid areas in the northwest of China and the Loess Plateau are the sources of those aerosols over the Pacific. Atmospheric iron is the limiting factor of the productivity in certain ocean regions. The dust storms must now be seen as repeated sources of pollution elements as well as soil elements to the East China Sea and, farther out, to the North Pacific Ocean and even to the USA. The long-range transport of aerosols, especially the dust storm, from China and the positive feedbacks of iron coupled with sulfur in atmosphere might be one of the important mechanisms that would affect the primary productivity in the Pacific and/or the global climate change and deserve to be further studied. 2Molecular analysis of hepatitis B virus isolates in Mexico:Predominant circulation of hepatitis B virus genotype H显示文摘AIM: To determine the genotypes in Mexican hepatitis Bvirus (HBV) isolates and characterize their precore andcore promoter mutations.METHODS: Forty-nine HBV isolates of Mexico obtainedfrom sera of 15 hepatitis patients, 6 hemodialysis pa-tients, 20 men seeking HIV testing, and 8 AIDS patientswere analyzed. HBV isolates were amplified by PCR,and genotyped by line probe assay (INNO-LiPA HBVGenotyping; INNOGENETICS N V, Ghent, Belgium).HBV genotype confirmation was performed by DNAsequencing part of the sAg region. Precore and core pro-moter mutation characterization was performed by lineprobe assay (INNO-LiPA HBV PreCore; INNOGENETICS NV, Ghent, Belgium).RESULTS: Overall, HBV genotype H was found in 37(75.5%) out of the 49 isolates studied. HBV genotypesG, A, and D were found in 5 (10.2%), 4 (8.2%), and 3(6.1%) isolates, respectively. HBV genotype H was pre-dominant in isolates from hemodialysis patients (100%),hepatitis patients (80%), and men seeking HIV test-ing (75%), and accounted for half of infections in AIDSpatients (50%). Six (12.2%) out of the 49 HBV isolatesshowed both wild type and mutant populations at pre-core codon 28. These mixed wild type and precore mu-tant populations were observed in one HBV genotype Aisolate and in all HBV genotype G isolates. A dual variantcore promoter mutation was observed in 1 (2%) of theisolates, which was genotype H.CONCLUSION: HBV genotype H is highly predominantin HBV isolates of Mexico followed by genotypes G, Aand D. 3A genome-wide survey of maize lipid-related genes: candidate genes mining,digital gene expression profiling and colocation with QTL for maize kernel oil显示文摘Lipids play an important role in plants due to their abundance and their extensive participation in many metabolic processes.Genes involved in lipid metabolism have been extensively studied in Arabidopsis and other plant species.In this study,a total of 1003 maize lipid-related genes were cloned and annotated,including 42 genes with experimental validation,732 genes with full-length cDNA and protein sequences in public databases and 229 newly cloned genes.Ninety-seven maize lipid-related genes with tissue-preferential expression were discovered by in silico gene expression profiling based on 1984483 maize Expressed Sequence Tags collected from 182 cDNA libraries.Meanwhile,70 QTL clusters for maize kernel oil were identified,covering 34.5% of the maize genome.Fifty-nine (84%) QTL clusters co-located with at least one lipid-related gene,and the total number of these genes amounted to 147.Interestingly,thirteen genes with kernel-preferential expression profiles fell within QTL clusters for maize kernel oil content.All the maize lipid-related genes identified here may provide good targets for maize kernel oil QTL cloning and thus help us to better understand the molecular mechanism of maize kernel oil accumulation.LI Lin1,LI Hui1,LI JiYing1,XU ShuTu1,YANG XiaoHong1,LI JianSheng1 & YAN JianBing1,2 1National Maize Improvement Centre of China,China Agricultural University,Beijing 100193,China 2International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT),Apdo.Postal 6-641,06600 Mexico,D.F.,Mexico 2010Science China(Life Sciences)2010,53,6:2

13Creep Induced Phase Transformation in Extruded Zn-Al Alloy显示文摘Phase transformation and microstructural change of an extruded eutectoid Zn-Al alloy Zn76Al22Cu2 (wt pct) were investigated during creep testing by using SEM and X-ray diffraction techniques. Creep induced decomposition of a metastable η’T phase and a four phase transformation, α+ ε →T’ +η, occurred during the creep testing. Also a microstructural change was observed from a lamellar structure into a spheroidized structure in the rupture part of the extruded alloy. It provided evidence of creep induced phase transformations which occurred in ageing process. 16Depth-related distribution of bacterial community in sediments of eutrophic Guanting reservoir显示文摘In this study, DNAs were extracted from sediment samples at depths of 5, 35, and 69 cm from eutrophic Guanting reservoir, China. 16S rDNAs were amplified by PCR and clone libraries were constructed. The depth-related distribution of bacterial community in the sediment was characterized by using amplified 16S rDNA restriction analysis (ARDRA) and sequencing of the dominant clones. The results indicated that species diversity in the sediment of Guanting reservoir was rather high with the Shannon-Wiener index about 5.8. Bacterial richness varied in different depths: the highest in the sample of 35 cm in depth; followed by the sample of 5 cm in depth; and the lowest bacterial richness in the sample of 69 cm. Dominant species from the three samples were different although there were some common clones. PhyIogenetic analysis showed that all of the dominant clones in the three layers were uncultured bacteria and distantly related to the previously reported species in beta or gamma subclass of proteobacteria, including bacterial groups that have the ability to degrade aromatic hydrocarbons, n-all:anes, chlorinated organic compounds, or to accumulate polyphosphate, etc. Changes of deptt-related bacterial community in the Guanting reservoir sediment might reflect the pollution history and the water quality of the reservoir.
