| 1 | Levels of matrix metalloproteinase-1 and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 in gastric cancer显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the levels of preoperative serum matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) in gastric cancer.METHODS:One hundred gastric cancer patients who underwent gastrectomy were enrolled in this study.The serum concentrations of MMP-1 and TIMP-1 in these patients and in fifty healthy controls were determined using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.RESULTS:Higher serum MMP-1 and TIMP-1 levels were observed in patients than in controls (P < 0.001).Serum MMP-1 and TIMP-1 levels were positively associated with morphological appearance,tumor size,depth of wall invasion,lymph node metastasis,liver metastasis,perineural invasion,and pathological stage.They were not significantly associated with age,gender,tumor location,or histological type.CONCLUSION:Increased MMP-1 and TIMP-1 were associated with gastric cancer.Although these markers are not good markers for diagnosis,these markers show in advanced gastric cancer. | Ozgur Kemik Ahu Sarbay Kemik Aziz Sümer Ahmet Cumhur Dulger Mine Adas Huseyin Begenik Ismail Hasirci Ozkan Yilmaz Sevim Purisa Erol Kisli Sefa Tuzun Cetin Kotan | 2011 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2011，17，16： | 10 |

| 3 | Assessment of air pollution genotoxicity by RAPD in Evernia prunastri L. Ach. from around iron-steel factory in Karabk, Turkey显示文摘Lichens are widely used in biomonitoring studies of air pollution, either as bioindicators of air quality or as bioaccumulators of atmospheric deposition. Over the past decade, several molecular techniques have been developed to provide information on diversity, genotoxicology, genetic relationships, etc. The heavy metal contents of Evernia prunastri samples were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry. The Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA Polymerase Chain Reaction (RAPD-PCR) method was used to describe the pattern of DNA band variation in the samples influenced by the environmental pollution. The study was designed to describe the level of pollution in an area contaminated with smoke and waste from an iron-steel factory, and to reveal the level of potential genotoxic agents around this source of pollution. | 5 | Primary hepatic carcinosarcoma显示文摘BACKGROUND:Primary hepatic carcinosarcoma is a rare malignant tumor containing an intimate mixture of carci- nomatous and sarcomatous elements.Reports on risk factors, epidemiology,and pathogenesis of the tumor as well as the experience in its treatment are limited. METHOD:We present a case of primary carcinosarcoma of the liver in a 69-year-old man who complained of right hypochondrial pain and weight loss for two months. RESULTS:Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 14×12 cm mass in segments 7-8 and 4 of the liver with vena hepatica invasion.An ultrasonography-guided biopsy showed osteoid tissue without osteoblastic rimming.Vascular structures accompanied the osteoid tissue.The patient underwent surgery after a diagnosis of hemangioma.Intraoperative frozen sections revealed a carcinosarcoma associated with an osteosarcoma and cholangiocellular carcinoma components.
