| 4 | Effects of Dietary β-Glucan and Glycyrrhizin on Non-Specific Immunity and Disease Resistance of the Sea Cucumber (Apostichopus japonicus Selenka) Challenged with Vibrio splendidus显示文摘Sea cucumbers, Apostichopus japonicus Selenka, were fed diets containing non-immunostimulant (basal diet), 0.2% β-glucan and 0.02% glycyrrhizin in a recirculatory water system for 45 days, and subsequently challenged with Vibrio splendidus by injection at 1.0×108 cfu/sea cucumber for 15 days.Phagocytic capacity (PC), intracellular superoxide anion production (ISAP), ly-sozyme (LSZ) activity and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in the coelomic fluid were analyzed on the 0th, 5th, 10th and 15th days after injection.Results showed that after the 45-day feeding period, PC, ISAP, LSZ activity and SOD activity in sea cucumbers fed with dietary β-glucan or glycyrrhizin were significantly higher than in those fed with the basal diet.On the 5th day after infection, all the immune parameters examined in the sea cucumbers injected with V.splendidus decreased in value significantly.On the 15th day, PC, ISAP and LSZ activity returned to levels similar to those on the 0th day.For the sea cucumbers injected with saline, there were no significant differences in all the immune parameters examined and in the cumulative morbidity during the 15-day challenging trial.After injecting with V.splendidus, the cumulative morbidity of sea cucumbers fed with the basal diet was significantly higher than those fed with dietary β-glucan or glycyrrhizin when challenged with V.splendidus challenged sea cucumber fed with the basal diet was significantly higher than those fed with dietary β-glucan or glycyrrhizin.There was no significant difference in cumulative morbidity between the dietary β-glucan and glycyrrhizin treatments over time. | CHANG Jie ZHANG Wenbing MAI Kangsen MA Hongming XU Wei | 2010 | Journal of Ocean University of China2010,9,4: | 12 |

| 6 | Comparative study on the organoleptic quality of wild and farmed large yellow croaker Larimichthys crocea显示文摘To fill the blank in systematic study on the organoleptic quality of large yellow croaker Larimichthys crocea,we analyzed the organoleptic quality of the fish meat of wild,trash-fish-fed,and compound-feed-fed large yellow croaker.Six fish(weight:500 g)per group were sampled in the same period,and 89 indices of fish organoleptic quality were measured and analyzed.Results reveal significant differences in the body condition factor,skin/muscle color,flesh texture,odor,and taste aspects between wild and farmed fish.Compared with the wild fish,farmed fish showed fatter body shape,whiter skin or muscle color,tender muscle,higher level of fishy odor or volatile intensity,but lower delicious taste.In addition,compared with trash-fish feeding,compound-feed feeding could improve the body shape,skin color,flesh texture,and fish taste of large yellow croaker,but it also increased the fishy odor.In principle component analysis and cluster analysis,the present study preliminarily established the systematic evaluation with multiple indices to the quality of large yellow croaker.It shall be helpful for the evaluation or improvement of the quality of farmed large yellow croaker. | MA Rui MENG Yuqiong ZHANG Wenbing MAI Kangsen | 2020 | Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2020,38,1: | 7 |

| 8 | Famitinib in combination with concurrent chemoradiotherapy in patients with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma: a phase 1, open-label, dose-escalation Study显示文摘Background:Famitinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor against multiple targets,including vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2/3,platelet-derived growth factor receptor,and stem cell factor receptor(c-kit).Previous studies have demonstrated anti-tumour activities of famitinib against a wide variety of advanced-stage solid cancers.We aimed to determine the safety and efficacy of famitinib with concurrent chemoradiotherapy(CCRT)in patients with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC).We also evaluated the feasibility of contrast-enhanced ultrasound(D-CEUS)as a predictor of early tumour response to famitinib and to correlate functional parameters with clinical efficacy.Methods:The trial was conducted in subjects with stage III or IVa-b NPC using a 3+3 design of escalating fami-tinib doses.Briefly,subjects received 2 weeks of famitinib monotherapy followed by 7 weeks of famitinib plus CCRT.D-CEUS of the neck lymph nodes was performed at day 0,8 and 15 after famitinib was administered before starting concurrent chemoradiotherapy.End points included safety,tolerability and anti-tumour activity.Results:Twenty patients were enrolled(six each for 12.5,16.5 and 20 mg and two for 25 mg).Two patients in the 25 mg cohort developed dose-limiting toxicities,including grade 4 thrombocytopenia and grade 3 hypertension.The most common grade 3/4 adverse events were leukopenia,neutropenia and radiation mucositis.D-CEUS tests showed that more than 60%of patients achieved a perfusion parameter response after 2 weeks taking famitinib alone,and the parameter response was associated with disease improvement.In the famitinib monotherapy stage,three patients(15%)showed partial responses.The complete response rate was 65%at the completion of treatment and 95%3 months after the treatment ended.After a median follow-up of 44 months,the 3-year progression-free survival(PFS)and distant metastasis-free survival were 70%and 75%,respectively.Subjects with a decrease of perfusion parameter response,such as peak intensity decreased at least 30%after 1 week of famitinib treatment,had higher 3-year PFS(90.9%vs.44.4%,95%CI 73.7%-100%vs.11.9%-76.9%,P<0.001)than those with an increase or a reduction of less than 30%.Conclusions:The recommended famitinib dose for phase II trial is 20 mg with CCRT for patients with local advanced NPC.D-CEUS is a reliable and early measure of efficacy for famitinib therapies.Further investigation is required to confirm the effects of famitinib plus chemoradiotherapy. | Qiuyan Chen Linquan Tang Na Liu Feng Han Ling Guo Shanshan Guo Jianwei Wang Huai Liu Yanfang Ye Lu Zhang Liting Liu Pan Wang Yingqin Li Qingmei He Xiaoqun Yang Qingnan Tang Yang Li YuJing Liang XueSong Sun Chuanmiao Xie Yunxian Mo Ying Guo Rui Sun Haoyuan Mo Kajia Cao Xiang Guo Musheng Zeng Haiqiang Mai Jun Ma | 2018 | Cancer Communications2018,38,1: | 6 |

| 10 | Role of Diabetes Mellitus on Treatment Effects in Drug-susceptible Initial Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients in China显示文摘We assessed the role of diabetes mellitus(DM) on treatment effects in drug‐susceptible initial pulmonary tuberculosis(PTB) patients. A prospective study was conducted in eight provinces of China from October 2008 to December 2010. We enrolled 1,313 confirmed drug‐susceptible initial PTB patients, and all subjects received the treatment regimen(2 H3 R3 E3 Z3/4 H3 R3) as recommended by the national guidelines. Of the 1,313 PTB patients, 157(11.9%) had DM; these patients had more sputum smear‐positive rates at the end of the second month [adjusted odds ratios(aO R) 2.829, 95% confidence intervals(CI) 1.783‐4.490], and higher treatment failure(aO R 2.120, 95% CI 1.565‐3.477) and death rates(aO R 1.536, 95% CI 1.011‐2.628). | 15 | Transcriptomic analysis elucidates the enhanced skeletal muscle mass, reduced fat accumulation, and metabolically benign liver in human follistatin-344 transgenic pigs显示文摘Follistatin(FST) is an important regulator of skeletal muscle growth and adipose deposition through its ability to bind to several members of the transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β) superfamily, and thus may be a good candidate for future animal breeding programs. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the phenotypic changes have yet to be clarified in pig. We generated transgenic(TG) pigs that express human FST specifically in skeletal muscle tissues and characterized the phenotypic changes compared with the same tissues in wild-type pigs. The TG pigs showed increased skeletal muscle growth, decreased adipose deposition, and improved metabolism status(P<0.05). Transcriptome analysis detected important roles of the PIK3–AKT signaling pathway, calcium-mediated signaling pathway, and amino acid metabolism pathway in FST-induced skeletal muscle hypertrophy, and depot-specific oxidative metabolism changes in psoas major muscle. Furthermore, the lipid metabolism-related process was changed in adipose tissue in the TG pigs. Gene set enrichment analysis revealed that genes related to lipid synthesis, lipid catabolism, and lipid storage were down-regulated(P<0.01) in the TG pigs for subcutaneous fat, whereas genes related to lipid catabolism were significantly up-regulated(P<0.05) in the TG pigs for retroperitoneal fat compared with their expression levels in wild-type pigs. In liver, genes related to the TGF-β signaling pathway were over-represented in the TG pigs, which is consistent with the inhibitory role of FST in regulating TGF-β signaling. | 19 | Impacts of Typhoon ‘Koppu' on Infectious Diarrhea in Guangdong Province,China显示文摘This study aims to quantify the impact of typhoon ‘Koppu’ on infectious diarrhea in Guangdong, China in 2009. Rate ratios (RRs) were calculated by comparing person-time of infectious diarrhea cases between typhoon period and reference period. RRs of dysentery and other infectious diarrhea increased to a maximum of 1.12 (95% CI, 0.86-1.47), 1.10 (95% CI, 1.00-1.20) on the fifth lag day respectively. Children under 5 years were more vulnerable to infectious diarrhea, especially to other infectious diarrhea [RR: 1.21 (1.07-1.36) Vs. 1.03 (0.89-1.82)] after typhoon compared with people aged 〉5 years when RRs were at maximum. | 20 | In Situ Monitoring the Potassium‑Ion Storage Enhancement in Iron Selenide with Ether‑Based Electrolyte显示文摘As one of the promising anode materials,iron selenide has received much attention for potassium-ion batteries(KIBs).Nevertheless,volume expansion and sluggish kinetics of iron selenide result in the poor reversibility and stability during potassiation–depotassiation process.In this work,we develop iron selenide composite matching ether-based electrolyte for KIBs,which presents a reversible specific capacity of 356 mAh g^(−1) at 200 mA g^(−1) after 75 cycles.According to the measurement of mechanical properties,it is found that iron selenide composite also exhibits robust and elastic solid electrolyte interphase layer in ether-based electrolyte,contributing to the improvement in reversibility and stability for KIBs.To further investigate the electrochemical enhancement mechanism of ether-based electrolyte in KIBs,we also utilize in situ visualization technique to monitor the potassiation–depotassiation process.For comparison,iron selenide composite matching carbonate-based electrolyte presents vast morphology change during potassiation–depotassiation process.When changing to ether-based electrolyte,a few minor morphology changes can be observed.This phenomenon indicates an occurrence of homogeneous electrochemical reaction in ether-based electrolyte,which results in a stable performance for potassium-ion(K-ion)storage.We believe that our work will provide a new perspective to visually monitor the potassium-ion storage process and guide the improvement in electrode material performance. | Xiaodan Li Jinliang Li Wenchen Zhuo Zhibin Li Liang Ma Zhong Ji Likun Pan Wenjie Mai | 2021 | Nano-Micro Letters2021,13,11: | 2 |
