| 1 | Polymorphisms of MTHFR and susceptibility to oesophageal adenocarcinoma in a Caucasian United Kingdom population显示文摘AIM:To identify if methylene tetra-hydrofolatereductase(MTHFR)C677T polymorphisms are associated with oesophageal adenocarcnomas in a Caucasian population and to test whether folic acid and homocysteine levels are linked with cancer risk.METHODS:A case control study comprising of 58 non cancer and 48 cancer patients,MTHFR C667T genotyping was made and serum folate,homocysteine and vitamin B12 levels were made.Tumour stage,differentiation and survival was recorded.A P value of less than0.05 was taken to be significant.Theχ2 used to compare discrete variables and the Mantel-Cox was used to compare survival.A P value less than 0.05 was deemed to be significant.RESULTS:MTHFR polymorphisms is associated with an increased risk of several cancers.A link between MTHFR C677T polymorphisms and oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma and gastric cardia adenocarcinoma has been demonstrated in at risk Chinese populations.In a Western European population the role of the MTHFR gene has not previously been investigated in the setting of oesophageal adenocarcinoma.No association between folic acid levels and cancer patients was found.The unstable MTHFR 667 TT genotype occurred in 11%cancers and 7%controls,but statistical significance was not reached,homocysteine levels and folic acid levels were not affected,cancer patients with TT genotype displayed a trend for a shorter survival 7 mo vs 20 mo.Serum vitamin B12 levels were higher in the cancer group.The MTHFR 667 TT genotype is much lower than previous population studies.CONCLUSION:We conclude that serum folic acid and MTHFR polymorphisms are not associated with an increased risk of oesophageal adenocarcinoma,although cancers with unstable TT genotype may indicate a more aggressive disease course. | Richard Keld Manyi Thian Chia Hau Jamil Sajid Narveen Kumar Yeng Ang | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,34: | 8 |

| 3 | Selective dopamine D3 receptor antagonist YQA14 inhibits morphine-induced behavioral sensitization in wild type,but not in dopamine D3 receptor knockout mice显示文摘Increasing preclinical evidence demonstrates that dopamine D3 receptor (D3R) antagonists are a potential option for the treatment of drug addiction. The reinstatement of the addiction can be triggered by environmental stimuli that acquire motivational salience through repeated associations with the drug’s effects. YQA14 is a novel D3R antagonist that has exhibited pharmacotherapeutic efficacy in reducing cocaine and amphetamine reward and relapse to drug seeking in mice. In this study we investigated the effects of YQA14 on morphine-induced context-specific locomotor sensitization in mice. We showed that repeated injection of YQA14 (6.25–25mg/kg every day ip) prior to morphine (10mg/kg every day sc) not only inhibited the acquisition, but also significantly attenuated the expression of morphine-induced locomotor sensitization. Furthermore, in the expression phase, one single injection of YQA14 (6.25-25mg/kg, ip) dose-dependently inhibited the expression of morphine-induced behavioral sensitization. Moreover, YQA14 inhibited the expression of morphine-induced behavioral sensitization in wild mice (WT), but not in D3R knockout (D3R^-/-) mice in the expression phase. In addition, D3R^-/- mice also displayed the reduction in the expression phase compared with WT mice. | 6 | Improved Plasmonic Hot‑Electron Capture in Au Nanoparticle/Polymeric Carbon Nitride by Pt Single Atoms for Broad‑Spectrum Photocatalytic H_(2)Evolution显示文摘ABSTRACT Rationally designing broad-spectrum photocatalysts to harvest whole visible-light region photons and enhance solar energy conversion is a“holy grail”for researchers,but is still a challenging issue.Herein,based on the common polymeric carbon nitride(PCN),a hybrid co-catalysts system comprising plasmonic Au nanoparticles(NPs)and atomically dispersed Pt single atoms(PtSAs)with different functions was constructed to address this challenge.For the dual co-catalysts decorated PCN(PtSAs–Au_(2.5)/PCN),the PCN is photoexcited to generate electrons under UV and short-wavelength visible light,and the synergetic Au NPs and PtSAs not only accelerate charge separation and transfer though Schottky junctions and metal-support bond but also act as the co-catalysts for H_(2) evolution.Furthermore,the Au NPs absorb long-wavelength visible light owing to its localized surface plasmon resonance,and the adjacent PtSAs trap the plasmonic hot-electrons for H_(2) evolution via direct electron transfer effect.Consequently,the PtSAs–Au_(2.5)/PCN exhibits excellent broad-spectrum photocatalytic H_(2) evolution activity with the H_(2) evolution rate of 8.8 mmol g^(−1) h^(−1) at 420 nm and 264μmol g^(−1) h^(−1) at 550 nm,much higher than that of Au_(2.5)/PCN and PtSAs–PCN,respectively.This work provides a new strategy to design broad-spectrum photocatalysts for energy conversion reaction. | Manyi Gao Fenyang Tian Xin Zhang Zhaoyu Chen Weiwei Yang Yongsheng Yu | 2023 | Nano-Micro Letters2023,15,8: | 2 |

| 8 | Protective effects of sodium butyrate on rotavirus inducing endoplasmic reticulum stress-mediated apoptosis via PERK-eIF2αsignaling pathway in IPEC-J2 cells显示文摘Background:Rotavirus(RV)is a major pathogen that causes severe gastroenteritis in infants and young animals.Endoplasmic reticulum(ER)stress and subsequent apoptosis play pivotal role in virus infection.However,the protective mechanisms of intestinal damage caused by RV are poorly defined,especially the molecular pathways related to enterocytes apoptosis.Thus,the aim of this study was to investigate the protective effect and mechanism of sodium butyrate(SB)on RV-induced apoptosis of IPEC-J2 cells.Results:The RV infection led to significant cell apoptosis,increased the expression levels of ER stress(ERS)markers,phosphorylated protein kinase-like ER kinase(PERK),eukaryotic initiation factor 2 alpha(eIF2α),caspase9,and caspase3.Blocking PERK pathway using specific inhibitor GSK subsequently reversed RV-induced cell apoptosis.The SB treatment significantly inhibited RV-induced ERS by decreasing the expression of glucose regulated protein 78(GRP78),PERK,and eIF2α.In addition,SB treatment restrained the ERS-mediated apoptotic pathway,as indicated by downregulation of C/EBP homologous protein(CHOP)mRNA level,as well as decreased cleaved caspase9 and caspase3 protein levels.Furthermore,siRNA-induced GPR109a knockdown significantly suppressed the protective effect of SB on RV-induced cell apoptosis.Conclusions:These results indicate that SB exerts protective effects against RV-induced cell apoptosis through inhibiting ERS mediated apoptosis by regulating PERK-eIF2αsignaling pathway via GPR109a,which provide new ideas for the prevention and control of RV. | Ye Zhao Ningming Hu Qin Jiang Li Zhu Ming Zhang Jun Jiang Manyi Xiong Mingxian Yang Jiandong Yang Linyuan Shen Shunhua Zhang Lili Niu Lei Chen Daiwen Chen | 2021 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2021,12,4: | 2 |

| 15 | Enhanced electrochemical performance of La_(0.6)Sr_(0.4)Co_(0.2)Fe_(0.8)O_(3−δ)cathode via Ba-doping for intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells显示文摘La_(0.6)Sr_(0.4)Co_(0.2)Fe_(0.8)O_(3-δ)(LSCF)is recognized as one of the most promising cathode materials for the highly-desired intermediatetemperature solid oxide fuel cell(IT-SOFC)technology.However,it is still challenged by polarization losses due to reduced operation temperatures.In this work,a series of Ba^(2+)-doped La0.6-xBaxSr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-δ(LBSCFx,x=0.05,0.10,0.15,and 0.20)materials are successfully synthesized and their electrochemical performances are evaluated as a cathode for IT-SOFC technology.The study shows that,compared to the un-doped LSCF,the Ba^(2+)-doped LBSCF possess higher electrical conductivities at 500-800℃ and display lower polarization resistances to oxygen adsorption/dissociation.As a result,the Ni-SDC|SDC|LBSCF0.20 cell(SDC=samarium-doped cerium,Sm_(0.2)Ce_(0.8)O_(1.9))delivers a high maximum power density of 0.704 W/cm^(2)at 750℃,which is>30%higher than the Ni-SDC|SDC|LSCF cell.This work reveals that Ba^(2+)-doping is effective in enhancing oxygen catalytic activity of LSCF-based cathode materials,demonstrating a new and commercial-feasible strategy in developing high performance cathode materials for the IT-SOFC technology. | Changkun Cai Manyi Xie Ke Xue Yu Shi Shuting Li Yuanyuan Liu Shengli An Hong Yang | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,4: | 1 |
