| 1 | Magnetic resonance imaging:Review of imaging techniques and overview of liver imaging显示文摘Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) of the liver is slowly transitioning from a problem solving imaging modality to a first line imaging modality for many diseases of the liver.The well established advantages of MRI over other cross sectional imaging modalities may be the basis for this transition.Technological advancements in MRI that focus on producing high quality images and fast imaging,increasing diagnostic accuracy and developing newer function-specific contrast agents are essential in ensuring that MRI succeeds as a first line imaging modality.Newer imaging techniques,such as parallel imaging,are widely utilized to shorten scanning time.Diffusion weighted echo planar imaging,an adaptation from neuroimaging,is fast becoming a routine part of the MRI liver protocol to improve lesion detection and characterization of focal liver lesions.Contrast enhanced dynamic T1 weighted imaging is crucial in complete evaluation of diseases and the merit of this dynamic imaging relies heavily on the appropriate timing of the contrast injection.Newer techniques that include fluorotriggered contrast enhanced MRI,an adaptation from 3D MRA imaging,are utilized to achieve good bolus timing that will allow for optimum scanning.For accurate interpretation of liver diseases,good understanding of the newer imaging techniques and familiarity with typical imaging features of liver diseases are essential.In this review,MR sequences for a time efficient liver MRI protocol utilizing newer imaging techniques are discussed and an overview of imaging features of selected common focal and diffuse liver diseases are presented. | Santhi Maniam Janio Szklaruk | 2010 | World Journal of Radiology2010,2,8: | 10 |
| 2 | Intracellular biosynthesis of Au and Ag nanoparticles using ethanolic extract of Brassica oleracea L. and studies on their physicochemical and biological properties显示文摘In this present study, we reported broccoli(Brassica oleracea L.) as a potential candidate for the synthesis of gold and silver nanoparticles(NPs) in green chemistry method. The synthesized metal nanoparticles are evaluated their antimicrobial efficacy against different human pathogenic organisms. The physico-chemical properties of gold nanoparticles were analyzed using different analytical techniques such as a UV–Vis spectrophotometer, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and a Fourier Transform Infrared spectrophotometer. In addition, gold and silver NP antimicrobial efficacy was checked by disc diffusion assay. UV–Vis color intensity of the nanoparticles was shown at 540 and 450 nm for gold and silver nanoparticles respectively. Higher magnification of the Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy image shows the variable morphology of the gold nanoparticles such as spherical, rod and triangular shapes and silver nanoparticles were seen in spherical shapes. The average spherical size of the particles was observed in 24–38 nm for gold and 30–45 nm for silver NPs. X-ray diffraction pattern confirmed the presence of gold nanoparticles and silver nanoparticles which were crystalline in nature. Additionally,the functional metabolites were identified by the Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy. IR spectra revealed phenols, alcohols, aldehydes(sugar moieties), vitamins and proteins are present in the broccoli extract which are accountable to synthesize the nanoparticles. The synthesized gold and silver NPs inhibited the growth of the tested bacterial and fungal pathogens at the concentration of 50 μg/m L respectively. | 11 | Epidemiology and phenotypes of diabetes in children and adolescents in non-European-origin populations in or from Western Pacific region显示文摘BACKGROUND Type 1 diabetes(T1D)incidence varies substantially between countries/territories,with most studies indicating increasing incidence.In Western Pacific region(WPR),reported rates are much lower than European-origin populations.In contrast,there are reports of substantial numbers of young people with type 2 diabetes(T2D).A deeper understanding of T1D and T2D in the WPR may illuminate factors important in pathogenesis of these conditions.Furthermore,with varying resources and funding for diabetes treatment in this region,there is a need to more clearly determine the current burden of disease and also any gaps in knowledge.AIM To compile and summarise published epidemiologic and phenotypic data on childhood diabetes in non-European populations in and from WPR.METHODS Research articles were systematically searched from PubMed(MEDLINE),Embase,Cochrane library,and gray literature.Primary outcome measures were incidence and prevalence,with secondary measures including phenotypic descriptions of diabetes,including diabetes type categorization,presence of diabetic ketoacidosis(DKA)at onset,autoantibody positivity,Cpeptide levels,and human leucocyte antigen phenotype.Extracted data were collected using a customized template.Three hundred and thirty relevant records were identified from 16 countries/territories,with analysis conducted on 265(80.3%)records published from the year 2000.RESULTS T1D incidence ranged from<1-7.3/100000 individuals/year,rates were highest in emigrant/mixed populations and lowest in South-East Asia,with most countries/territories(71.4%)having no data since 1999.Incidence was increasing in all six countries/territories with data(annual increases 0.5%-14.2%,highest in China).Peak age-of-onset was 10-14 years,with a female case excess.Rate of DKA at onset varied from 19.3%-70%.Pancreatic autoantibodies at diagnosis were similar to European-origin populations,with glutamic acid decarboxylase-65 autoantibody frequency of 44.1%-64.5%,insulinoma-associated 2 autoantibody 43.5%-70.7%,and zinc transporter-8 autoantibody frequency 54.3%(one study).Fulminant T1D also occurs.T2D was not uncommon,with incidence in Japan and one Chinese study exceeding T1D rates.Monogenic forms also occurred in a number of countries.CONCLUSION T1D is less common,but generally has a classic phenotype.Some countries/territories have rapidly increasing incidence.T2D is relatively common.Registries and studies are needed to fill many information gaps. | Steven James Jayanthi Maniam Pik-To Cheung Tatsuhiko Urakami Julia von Oettingen Supawadee Likitmaskul Graham Ogle | 2022 | World Journal of Clinical Pediatrics2022,11,2: | 1 |
