| 1 | Climate Change and Its Effects on Runoff of Kaidu River, Xinjiang, China:A Multiple Time-scale Analysis显示文摘This paper applied an integrated method combining grey relation analysis, wavelet analysis and statistical analysis to study climate change and its effects on runoff of the Kaidu River at multi-time scales. Major findings are as follows: 1) Climatic factors were ranked in the order of importance to annual runoff as average annual temperature, average temperature in autumn, average temperature in winter, annual precipitation, precipitation in flood season, average temperature in summer, and average temperature in spring. The average annual temperature and annual precipi- tation were selected as the two representative factors that impact the annual runoff. 2) From the 32-year time scale, the annual runoff and the average annual temperature presented a significantly rising trend, whereas the annual precipita- tion showed little increase over the period of 1957-2002. By changing the time scale from 32-year to 4-year, we ob- served nonlinear trends with increasingly obvious oscillations for annual runoff, average annual temperature, and annual precipitation. 3) The changes of the runoff and the regional climate are closely related, indicating that the runoff change is the result of the regional climate changes. | 2 | Wavelet Analysis and Nonparametric Test for Climate Change in Tarim River Basin of Xinjiang During 1959-2006显示文摘Using wavelet analysis,regression analysis and the Mann-Kendall test,this paper analyzed time-series(1959-2006) weather data from 23 meteorological stations in an attempt to characterize the climate change in the Tarim River Basin of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region,China.Major findings are as follows:1) In the 48-year study period,average annual temperature,annual precipitation and average annual relative humidity all presented nonlinear trends.2) At the 16-year time scale,all three climate indices unanimously showed a rather flat before 1964 and a detectable pickup thereafter.At the 8-year time scale,an S-shaped nonlinear and uprising trend was revealed with slight fluctuations in the entire process for all three indices.Incidentally,they all showed similar pattern of a slight increase before 1980 and a noticeable up-swing afterwards.The 4-year time scale provided a highly fluctuating pattern of periodical oscillations and spiral increases.3) Average annual relative humidity presented a negative correlation with average annual temperature and a positive correlation with annual precipitation at each time scale,which revealed a close dynamic relationship among them at the confidence level of 0.001.4) The Mann-Kendall test at the 0.05 confidence level demonstrated that the climate warming trend,as represented by the rising average annual temperature,was remarkable,but the climate wetting trend,as indicated by the rising annual precipitation and average annual relative humidity,was not obvious. | XU Jianhua CHEN Yaning LI Weihong JI Minhe DONG Shan HONG Yulian | 2009 | Chinese Geographical Science2009,19,4: | 14 |

| 5 | Aqueous extract of Taxus Chinensis (Pilger) Rehd inhibits lung carcinoma A549 cells through the epidermal growth factor receptor/mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway in vitro and in vivo显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To explore the anticancer mechanismof aqueous extract of Taxus Chinensis (Pilger) Rehd (AETC).METHODS: The serum pharmacological method was used to avoid interference from administration of the crude medicinal herbs. Eight purebred New Zealand rabbits were used for preparation of serum containing various concentrations of AETC. Forty-eightBalb/c-nu mice were used for in vivo experiments. The effects of serum containing AETC on the proliferation of A549 cells and expression levels of the epidermal growth factor receptor/mitogen-activated protein kinase(EGFR/MAPK) pathway-related proteins in vitro were investigated. Additionally, the effects on the growth of A549 xenografts in nudemice,and expression levels of the EGFR/MAPK pathway-related proteins in the xenografts,were investigated.RESULTS: 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide(MTT) assay revealed that the serum containing AETC significantly decreased the viability of A549 cells in a dose-dependent manner.Western blot showed that the serum containing various concentrations of AETC strongly reduced the levels of phospho-Jun N-terminal kinase(p-JNK) and phospho-extracellular signal-regulated kinase1/2(ERK1/2) while it increased the level of p-p38. However, no significant effects on the expression levels of JNK, ERK1/2, and p38 MAPK were found. In addition, an anticancer effect from AETC was observed invivo in the Balb/c-nu mice bearing A549xenografts.CONCLUSION: AETC has significant effects on the growth of A549 xenografts and on the activity of the EGFR/MAPK pathway. | 7 | Microstructure and anisotropic swelling behaviour of compacted bentonite/sand mixture显示文摘Pre-compacted elements(disks,torus) of bentonite/sand mixture are candidate materials for sealing plugs of radioactive waste disposal.Choice of this material is mainly based on its swelling capacity allowing all gaps in the system to be sealed,and on its low permeability.When emplaced in the gallery,these elements will start to absorb water from the host rock and swell.Thereby,a swelling pressure will develop in the radial direction against the host rock and in the axial direction against the support structure.In this work,the swelling pressure of a small scale compacted disk of bentonite and sand was experimentally studied in both radial and axial directions.Different swelling kinetics were identified for different dry densities and along different directions.As a rule,the swelling pressure starts increasing quickly,reaches a peak value,decreases a little and finally stabilises.FOr some dry densities,higher peaks were observed in the radial direction than in the axial direction.The presence of peaks is related to the microstructure change and to the collapse of macropores.In parallel to the mechanical tests,microstructure investigation at the sample scale was conducted using microfocus X-ray computed tomography(μCT).Image observation showed a denser structure in the centre and a looser one in the border,which was also confirmed by image analysis.This structure heterogeneity in the radial direction and the occurrence of macro-pores close to the radial boundary of the sample can explain the large peaks observed in the radial swelling pressure evolution.Another interesting result is the higher anisotropy found at lower bentonite dry densities,which was also analysed by means of μCT observation of a sample at low bentonite dry density after the end of test It was found that the macro-pores,especially those between sand grains,were not filled by swelled bentonite,which preserved the anisotropic microstructure caused by uniaxial compression due to the absence of microstructure collapse. | Simona Saba Jean-Dominique Barnichon Yu-Jun Cui Anh Minh Tang Pierre Delage | 2014 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2014,6,2: | 8 |

| 11 | On the chemo-thermo-hydro-mechanical behaviour of geological and engineered barriers显示文摘An overview of the recent findings about the chemo-hydro-mechanical behaviour of materials used for both geological and engineered barriers in nuclear waste disposal is presented, through some examples about the natural Boom Clay (BC) and compacted bentonite-based materials. For the natural BC, it was found that compression index identified from both oedometer and isotropic compression tests is similar and the compressibility of BC from the Mol site is higher than that of BC from the Essen site; the shear strength of Mol BC is also higher than that of the Essen BC, suggesting a significant effect of carbonates content; the thermal volume change is strongly overconsolidation ratio (OCR) dependent-low OCR values promote thermal contraction while high OCR values favour thermal dilation; the volume change behaviour is also strongly time dependent and this time dependent behaviour is governed by the stress level and temperature; the effect of pore-water salinity on the volume change behaviour can be significant when the smectite content is relatively high. For the bentonite-based materials, it was found that thermal contraction also occurs at low OCR values, but this is suction dependent-suction promotes thermal dilation. Under constant volume conditions, wetting results in a decrease of hydraulic conductivity, followed by an increase. This is found to be related to changes in macro-pores size-wetting induces a decrease of macro-pores size, followed by an increase due to the aggregates fissuring. | 13 | Relationship between microvessel density and telomerase activity in hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM: To study the relationship between microvessel density(MVD), telomerase activity and biological characteristics in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).METHODS: S-P immunohistochemical method and telomeric repeat amplification protocol (TRAP) were respectively used to analyze the MVD and telomerase activity in 58 HCC and adjacent normal tissues.RESULTS: The MVD in HCC with metastasis, lower differentiation or without intact capsule was significantly higher than that in HCC with intact capsule, higher differentiation, or without metastasis. While MVD had no relationship with tumor size, hepatic virus infection and other clinical factors. Telomerase activity was related to differentiation degree, but not to tumor size or histological grade. MVD in HCC with telomerase activity was higher than that in HCC without telomerase activity.CONCLUSION: MVD and telomerase activity may serve as diagnostic criteria of HCC in earlier stage. | 15 | Numerical investigation of aerodynamic flow actuation produced by surface plasma actuator on 2D oscillating airfoil显示文摘Numerical simulation of unsteady flow control over an oscillating NACA0012 airfoil is investigated. Flow actuation of a turbulent flow over the airfoil is provided by low current DC surface glow discharge plasma actuator which is analytically modeled as an ion pressure force produced in the cathode sheath region. The modeled plasma actuator has an induced pressure force of about 2 k Pa under a typical experiment condition and is placed on the airfoil surface at 0% chord length and/or at 10% chord length. The plasma actuator at deep-stall angles(from 5° to 25°) is able to slightly delay a dynamic stall and to weaken a pressure fluctuation in down-stroke motion. As a result, the wake region is reduced. The actuation effect varies with different plasma pulse frequencies, actuator locations and reduced frequencies. A lift coefficient can increase up to 70% by a selective operation of the plasma actuator with various plasma frequencies and locations as the angle of attack changes. | 19 | Seasonal and geographical distribution of bacillary dysentery(shigellosis)and associated climate risk factors in Kon Tum Province in Vietnam from 1999 to 2013显示文摘Background:Bacillary dysentery(BD)is an acute bacterial infection of the intestine caused by Shigella spp.,with clinical symptoms ranging from fever to bloody diarrhoea to abdominal cramps to tenesmus.In Vietnam,enteric bacterial pathogens are an important cause of diarrhoea and most cases in children under 5 years of age are due to Shigella strains.The serogroups S.flexneri and S.sonnei are considered to be the most common.The main objective of this study was to,for the first time,assess the seasonal patterns and geographic distribution of BD in Vietnam,and to determine the climate risk factors associated with the incidence of BD in Kon Tum Province,where the highest rate of bacillary dysentery was observed from 1999 to 2013.Methods:The seasonal patterns and geographic distribution of BD was assessed in Vietnam using a seasonaltrend decomposition procedure based on loess.In addition,negative binomial regression models were used to determine the climate risk factors associated with the incidence of BD in Kon Tum Province,from 1999 to 2013.Results:Overall,incidence rates of BD have slightly decreased over time(except for an extremely high incidence in 2012 in the north of Vietnam).The central regions(north/south central coast and central highlands)had relatively high incidence rates,whereas the northwest/east and Red River Delta regions had low incidence rates.Overall,seasonal plots showed a high peak in the mid-rainy reason and a second smaller peak in the early or late rainy season.The incidence rates significantly increased between May and October(“wet season”)across the country.In Kon Tum Province,temperature,humidity,and precipitation were found to be positively associated with the incidence of BD.Conclusions:Our findings provide insights into the seasonal patterns and geographic distribution of BD in Vietnam and its associated climate risk factors in Kon Tum Province.This study may help clinicians and the general public to better understand the timings of outbreaks and therefore equip them with the knowledge to plan better interventions(such as improving water,sanitation,and hygiene conditions)during peak seasons.This can,in turn,prevent or reduce outbreaks and onwards transmission during an outbreak. | Hu Suk Lee TTHa Hoang Phuc Pham-Duc Mihye Lee Delia Grace Dac Cam Phung Vu Minh Thuc Hung Nguyen-Viet | 2017 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2017,6,1: | 5 |
