| 1 | Effect of Alkali Stress on Soluble Sugar, Antioxidant Enzymes and Yield of Oat显示文摘Alkali stress can cause severe crop damage and reduce production. However, physiological processes involved in alkali stress in oat seedlings are not well understood. In this study, physiological responses and yield of oat to alkali stress were studied using the alkali-tolerant oat genotype Vao-9 and the alkali-sensitive oat genotype Baiyan 5. The results were: (i) low concentrations of alkali stress (25 and 50 mmol L-1) significantly reduced the yield and grain weight while increased the oat grain number per spike. A negative correlation between yield and malondialdehyde (MDA) content at the jointing and grain filling stages and positive correlations between yield on one hand and superoxide dismutase (SOD), and peroxidase (POD) activities on the other at the jointing stage were observed. There was a positive correlation between MDA and soluble sugar at the grain filling stage; (ii) soluble sugar content was increased at the jointing and grain filling stages and decreased at the heading stage by alkali stress; (iii) alkali stress increased the SOD activity during the heading and grain filling stages, and increased the POD activity at the heading stage. As compared to the control, the increase of MDA contents in alkali-treated oat was observed, during the jointing, heading and grain filling stages; (iv) under alkali stress, the oat genotype Vao-9 showed higher antioxidant enzyme activity and lower soluble sugar contents during the heading stage, and lower MDA contents than those in the oat genotype Baiyan 5 under alkali stress. | 5 | The effect of Fe-Mn minerals and seawater interface and enrich-ment mechanism of ore-forming elements of polymetallic crusts and nodules from the South China Sea显示文摘Ferromanganese crusts and nodules are important submarine mineral resources that contain various metal elements with significant economic value. In this study, polymetallic crusts and nodules obtained from the South China Sea(SCS) were determined by using X-ray power diffraction(XRD), Raman spectroscopy(RS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) to systematically investigate and analyze the mineralogical and spectral characteristics of the Fe-Mn minerals. XRD measurements revealed that the SCS polymetallic crusts and nodules were composed of vernadite, quartz, and plagioclase. The nodules also contained todorokite. The Fe-phase minerals of the SCS crusts and nodules were composed of amorphous Fe oxide/hydroxide, and the Mn-and Fe-phases minerals exhibited relatively poor degrees of crystallization. FTIR results showed that the Fe-Mn minerals in the crusts and nodules included a large number of surface hydroxyl groups. These surface hydroxyl groups contained protons that could provide reactive sites for complexation of ore-forming elements in seawater. XPS results indicated that the surfaces of the Fe-Mn minerals mainly contained Fe, Mn, and O. Fe was present in the trivalent oxidation state, while Mn, which may contain several bivalent oxidation state, was present in the tetravalent and trivalent oxidation states. The SCS polymetallic crusts and nodules were compared with Pacific seamount crusts, and results showed that the surface hydroxyl(-OH) groups of the SCS crusts and nodules numbered more than the lattice oxygen(O^(2-)). But the lattice oxygen of Pacific seamount crusts numbered more than the surface hydroxyl groups. This characteristic indicated that the degree of crystallization of Fe-Mn minerals from the Pacific Ocean was higher than that of minerals from the South China Sea. | 6 | 3D uniform nitrogen-doped carbon skeleton for ultra-stable sodium metal anode显示文摘Sodium metal batteries are arousing extensive interest owing to their high energy density,low cost and wide resource.However,the practical development of sodium metal batteries is inherently plagued by the severe volume expansion and the dendrite growth of sodium metal anode during long cycles under high current density.Herein,a simple electrospinning method is applied to construct the uniformly nitrogen-doped porous carbon fiber skeleton and used as three-dimensional(3D)current collector for sodium metal anode,which has high specific surface area(1,098 m^2/g)and strong binding to sodium metal.As a result,nitrogen-doped carbon fiber current collector shows a low sodium deposition overpotential and a highly stable cyclability for 3,500 h with a high coulombic effciency of 99.9%at 2 mA/cm^2 and 2 mAh/cm^2.Moreover,the full cells using carbon coated sodium vanadium phosphate as cathode and sodium pre-plated nitrogen-doped carbon fiber skeleton as hybrid anode can stably cycle for 300 times.These results illustrate an effective strategy to construct a 3D uniformly nitrogen-doped carbon skeleton based sodium metal hybrid anode without the formation of dendrites,which provide a prospect for further development and research of high performance sodium metal batteries. | Ben Liu Danni Lei Jin Wang Qingfei Zhang Yinggan Zhang Wei He Hongfei Zheng Baisheng Sa Qingshui Xie Dong-Liang Peng Baihua Qu | 2020 | Nano Research2020,13,8: | 3 |
| 7 | Prevalence trend and risk factors for anemia among patients with human immunodeficiency virus infection receiving antiretroviral therapy in rural China显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence trend and risk factors for anemia in patients with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) infection receiving antiretroviral therapy(ART) in rural China.METHODS: We conducted cross-sectional studies among the same population in 2010, 2012, and2014, based on data from standard medical record registers. Factors associated with anemia were evaluated using a logistic regression model.RESULTS: The number of patients with HIV infec-tion included in each cross-sectional study was1456 in 2010, 1531 in 2012, and 1567 in 2014, and the prevalence of anemia was 44.3%, 34.7%, and27.6%, respectively. The prevalence of anemia was lower in female patients in 2010 [odds ratio(OR)0.68; 95% confidence interval(CI) 0.55-0.85]; however, there was no difference by sex in 2012(OR0.90; 95% CI 0.72-1.11) and 2014(OR 1.05; 95% CI0.84-1.32). Patients with a higher level of education had a lower risk of anemia in 2014(OR 0.72; 95% CI0.56-0.92), but there was no difference in 2010(OR1.00; 95% CI 0.79-1.25) and 2012(OR 0.99; 95% CI0.79-1.24). Patients who had received a longer duration of ART had a higher risk of anemia in 2014(OR1.74; 95% CI 1.15-2.64), but there was no difference in 2010 and 2012(P > 0.05). Patients receiving Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) therapy had a lower risk of anemia.CONCLUSION: The prevalence of anemia among patients with HIV infection receiving ART decreased between 2010 and 2014 in Henan Province but was still higher than the prevalence in the general population of China. | 8 | Dual-Functional Lithiophilic/Sulfiphilic Binary-Metal Selenide Quantum Dots Toward High-Performance Li-S Full Batteries显示文摘The commercial viability of lithium-sulfur batteries is still challenged by the notorious lithium polysulfides(Li PSs)shuttle effect on the sulfur cathode and uncontrollable Li dendrites growth on the Li anode.Herein,a bi-service host with Co-Fe binary-metal selenide quantum dots embedded in three-dimensional inverse opal structured nitrogen-doped carbon skeleton(3DIO FCSe-QDs@NC)is elaborately designed for both sulfur cathode and Li metal anode.The highly dispersed FCSe-QDs with superb adsorptive-catalytic properties can effectively immobilize the soluble Li PSs and improve diffusion-conversion kinetics to mitigate the polysulfide-shutting behaviors.Simultaneously,the 3D-ordered porous networks integrated with abundant lithophilic sites can accomplish uniform Li deposition and homogeneous Li-ion flux for suppressing the growth of dendrites.Taking advantage of these merits,the assembled Li-S full batteries with 3DIO FCSe-QDs@NC host exhibit excellent rate performance and stable cycling ability(a low decay rate of 0.014%over 2,000 cycles at 2C).Remarkably,a promising areal capacity of 8.41 mAh cm^(-2)can be achieved at the sulfur loading up to 8.50 mg cm^(-2)with an ultra-low electrolyte/sulfur ratio of 4.1μL mg^(-1).This work paves the bi-serve host design from systematic experimental and theoretical analysis,which provides a viable avenue to solve the challenges of both sulfur and Li electrodes for practical Li-S full batteries. | Youzhang Huang Liang Lin Yinggan Zhang Lie Liu Baisheng Sa Jie Lin Laisen Wang Dong-Liang Peng Qingshui Xie | 2023 | Nano-Micro Letters2023,15,5: | 2 |
| 9 | Comprehensive evaluation of 20 pomegranate(Punica granatum L.) cultivars in China显示文摘Recent investigations on pomegranate products have significantly increased and successfully drawn consumers’ attention to nutritional and medicinal values, promoting the pomegranate industry’s development worldwide. However, little information on pomegranates grown in China is available. Morphological and chemical characterizations of fruits and arils from 20 pomegranate cultivars in six regions of China were investigated. Combined with overall scores by principal component analysis, ‘Yushiliu No. 1’, ‘Taishanhong No. 2’, ‘Tunisia’ and ‘Mollar’ were promising cultivars, and Chinese researchers bred the first two. It was surprising that ‘Mollar’ had bigger fruit size and more aril moisture grown in China than in Spain. Cultivars with higher anthocyanin content in arils were ‘Turkey’, ‘Moyu’ and ‘Red Angel’, which might be used as the source of natural red food colourants. While red husk ‘Hongruyi’ and ‘Hongshuangxi’ with higher vitamin C, aril moisture and lower titratable acid in arils, might also be promising cultivars for further various utilization. Furthermore, the comparison of ‘Tunisia’ fruits from four regions revealed that cultivation locations had more influence on fruit traits than genotypes. Maturity index classification was established for Chinese pomegranate cultivars. | 10 | Neutrophile-to-lymphocyte,lymphocyte-to-monocyte,and platelet-tolymphocyte ratios as prognostic and response biomarkers for resectable locally advanced gastric cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND Perioperative fluorouracil plus leucovorin,oxaliplatin,and docetaxel(FLOT)improves prognosis in locally advanced gastric cancer(LAGC).Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte(NLR),lymphocyte-tomonocyte(LMR),and platelet-to-lymphocyte(PLR)ratios are prognostic biomarkers but not predictive factors.AIM To assess blood ratios’(NLR,LMR and PLR)potential predictive response to FLOT and survival outcomes in resectable LAGC patients.METHODS This was a multicentric retrospective study investigating the clinical potential of NLR,LMR,and PLR in resectable LAGC patients,treated with at least one preoperative FLOT cycle,from 12 Portuguese hospitals.Means were compared through non-parametric Mann-Whitney tests.Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis defined the cut-off values as:High PLR>141 for progression and>144 for mortality;high LMR>3.56 for T stage regression(TSR).Poisson and Cox regression models the calculated relative risks/hazard ratios,using NLR,pathologic complete response,TSR,and tumor regression grade(TRG)as independent variables,and overall survival(OS)as the dependent variable.RESULTS This study included 295 patients(mean age,63.7 years;59.7% males).NLR was correlated with survival time(r=0.143,P=0.014).PLR was associated with systemic progression during FLOT(P=0.022)and mortality(P=0.013),with high PLR patients having a 2.2-times higher risk of progression[95% confidence interval(CI):0.89-5.26]and 1.5-times higher risk of mortality(95%CI:0.92-2.55).LMR was associated with TSR,and high LMR patients had a 1.4-times higher risk of achieving TSR(95%CI:1.01-1.99).OS benefit was found with TSR(P=0.015)and partial/complete TRG(P<0.001).Patients without TSR and with no evidence of pathological response had 2.1-times(95%CI:1.14-3.96)and 2.8-times(95%CI:1.6-5)higher risk of death.CONCLUSION Higher NLR is correlated with longer survival time.High LMR patients have a higher risk of decreasing T stage,whereas high PLR patients have higher odds of progressing under FLOT and dying.Patients with TSR and a pathological response have better OS and lower risk of dying. | Tiago Cruz Tomás Ines Eiriz Marina Vitorino Rodrigo Vicente Joao Gramaca Alicia Guadalupe Oliveira Paulo Luz Mafalda Baleiras Ana Sofia Spencer Luísa Leal Costa Patrícia Liu Joana Mendonca Magno Dinis Teresa Padrao Marisol Correia Goncalo Atalaia Michelle Silva Teresa Fiúza | 2022 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2022,14,7: | 2 |

| 12 | Assessing remotely sensed and reanalysis products in characterizing surface soil moisture in the Mongolian Plateau显示文摘Soil moisture(SM)plays a crucial role in the dynamics of coupled atmosphere,water,energy,and carbon cycles.In this study,the spatiotemporal distribution and variations of SM in the Mongolian Plateau were investigated for the period of 1982-2018 based on four gridded SM datasets.Taking the observed SM from 33 monitoring stations as a reference,the reliability of these four gridded products was validated,and the three-cornered hat(TCH)method was also applied to evaluate their uncertainties.Major results indicated that all these four products underestimated the SM in this region at different levels.The ERA-Interim SM performed much better than other three products,with a higher R of 0.53 and lower ubRMSE of 0.0378 m^(3)·m^(−3).Except for ECV,the surface SM exhibited a decreasing trend at−0.0004 to−0.0008 m^(3)·m^(−3)/decade in the warm season(from April to October)over the past 37 years.The greatest decreases in SM occurred in the summer season.Precipitation change plays a more important role in explaining the variations of SM than temperature reported by partial correlation analysis.The results of this study will benefit our understanding of the climate change effects and the protection of the ecological systems in this region. | Min Luo Chula Sa Fanhao Meng Yongchao Duan Tie Liu Yuhai Bao | 2021 | International Journal of Digital Earth2021,14,10: | 2 |

Shortage of donor tissue makes the biomaterials for corneal regeneration a hot area of research. Collagen is the main component of corneal stroma, so collagen becomes a promising material for corneal repair. However, due to the drawbacks of collagen, it needs to be further modified to satisfy the requirement of corneal regeneration. In this article, we highlight the importance of collagen materials for corneal repair, and summarize several methods of preparing collagen based corneal regeneration materials, including chemical crosslinking, plastic compression of collagen, and collagen vitrigel. These modification methods can make collagen membranes with remarkable properties such as enough mechanical and suture retention strength, antibacterial property and excellent optical property.
