| 1 | Ginsenoside Rb1 attenuates activated microglia-induced neuronal damage显示文摘The microglia-mediated inflammatory reaction promotes neuronal damage under cerebral ischemia/hypoxia conditions. We therefore speculated that inhibition of hypoxia-induced microglial activation may alleviate neuronal damage. To test this hypothesis, we co-cultured ginsenoside Rb1, an active component of ginseng, and cortical neurons. Ginsenoside Rb1 protected neuronal morphology and structure in a single hypoxic culture system and in a hypoxic co-culture system with microglia, and reduced neuronal apoptosis and caspase-3 production. The protective effect was observable prior to placing in co-culture. Additionally, ginsenoside Rb1 inhibited levels of tumor necrosis factor-α in a co-culture system containing activated N9 microglial cells. Ginsenoside Rb1 also significantly decreased nitric oxide and superoxide production induced by N9 microglia. | 8 | Establishment of a risk assessment system for complications of hepatectomy based on preoperative variables显示文摘Background and aims:To reduce the incidence of postoperative complications,it is important to predict them and intervene before surgery if necessary.However,there is no ideal system to evaluate the overall risk of post-operative complications of liver surgery on the basis of preoperative variables.Therefore,this study aimed to design and validate a risk assessment system to predict postoperative complications of hepatectomy on the basis of preoperative variables.Methods:Binomial logistic regression was used to derive the“hepatectomy overall risk formula”(HORF)for predicting postoperative complications on the basis of preoperative variables.Results:Multivariate analysis revealed that Child–Pugh grade B–C(odds ratio[OR]=1.984,p=0.002),medical diseases requiring drug treatment(OR=1.883,p=0.003),major hepatectomy(OR=1.947,p<0.001),adjacent organ invasion(OR¼3.616,p¼0.023),and preoperative hospital stay>7 days(OR=1.565,p=0.004)were independent risk factors for postoperative complications of hepatectomy.The area under the curve for the HORF was 0.736.The optimal cut-off value for predicting complications was 0.32(32%).The area under the curve for the HORF in the validation dataset was 0.727.Conclusion:The HORF can accurately predict postoperative complications of hepatectomy on the basis of pre-operative variables,and thus enables the determination of the necessity for intervention before surgery. | Lining Xu Guiping Li Bo Yang | 2022 | iLIVER2022,1,4: | 1 |

| 12 | Anxiety and depression in older adult patients undergoing elective liver surgery in allopatry medical treatment显示文摘Background:Allopatry medical treatment is common in China.However,allopatry medical therapy can result in many problems,including a negative psychological impact on patients.Patients undergoing liver surgery often experience anxiety and depression.To understand the psychological status of older adult patients undergoing surgery better,this study was designed to investigate the incidence of anxiety and depression in older adult patients undergoing elective liver surgery and to analyze factors associated with it in allopatry medical therapy.Methods:A total of 173 older adult patients undergoing elective liver surgery were included in the study.Patients were evaluated using the hospital anxiety and depression scale(HADS).The contributing factors affecting the psychological state of older adult patients undergoing elective surgery were analyzed using a linear regression method.Results:The HADS-A(hospital anxiety and depression scale-anxiety).The correlation(scale)score of the older adult patients undergoing elective liver surgery was(8.692.38),including 53 asymptomatic patients,86 suspicious patients,and 34 symptomatic patients.The HADS-D(hospital anxiety and depression scale-depression)score was(8.312.90),including 83 asymptomatic patients,56 suspicious patients,and 34 symptomatic patients.Multivariate analysis showed that residence and complication grade(Clavien–Dindo Classification of Surgical Complications or Accordion Severity Grading System)significantly correlated with the anxiety level of patients undergoing elective surgery.Residence,a requirement of blood transfusion,total transfusion volume,and Accordion complication grade showed a significant correlation with depression in patients undergoing elective surgery.Conclusions:Anxiety and depression in older adult patients undergoing elective liver surgery were common.Regional differences(local patients vs non local patients)and the severity of complications were the risk factors for anxiety and depression in older adult patients undergoing elective liver surgery.Reducing both regional differences and the severity of complications would be beneficial to alleviate the risk of anxiety and depression in older adult patients undergoing elective liver surgery and thus promote their physical and mental health. | Lining Xu Yingying Xu Guiping Li Bo Yang | 2022 | iLIVER2022,1,2: | 0 |
| 13 | How did the Tonga volcanic tsunami on January 15,2022,affect Chinese coasts?显示文摘At 12:15 on January 15,2022(Beijing time),a massive eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano produced violent atmospheric fluctuations,which in turn generated a global tsunami through an abrupt air pressure shock upon the sea surface.Two main components of tsunami waves,phase-locked waves and free gravity waves,were identified by significant differences in propagating speeds across the deep ocean.The phase-locked wave propagated through the ocean basin synchronously with the atmospheric Lamb wave at an average speed of approximately 306 m/s,followed by the free gravity wave at a slower speed.The locked wave reached the coast of eastern Taiwan Island at about 20:00 on January 15,in coincidence with the Lamb wave arrival.However,on the coast of Chinese mainland,tidal gauges did not record tsunami signals until at least 2 h after the Lamb wave arrivals.Theoretical analyses and numerical experiments both suggested that as a result of the incoming wave shoaling above the vast continental shelf of Chinese mainland,the locked wave was no longer trapped by the air pressure shock and gradually transformed into freely-propagating shallow water waves by slowing down its propagation.Due to the longlasting planetary atmospheric fluctuations circling the earth many times,the sea level oscillations continuously propagated onto the Chinese shelf,which resulted in the tsunami waves excited along the Chinese coasts for at least 36 h.The maximum wave amplitude recorded on the coast of eastern Taiwan Island was 44 cm at Wushi,while on the coasts of eastern and southern Chinese mainland,the maximum amplitudes were 22 cm at Shipu and 13 cm at Zhuhai.Fourier and wavelet analyses were performed to identify the major components of the tsunami waves on the Chinese coasts.The results indicated that eastern Taiwan Island was impacted mainly by the waves with periods of approximately 10-40 min.Chinese mainland was hit by the evolved shallow water waves and subsequent free waves,with periods of approximately 40-100 and 16-20 min,respectively. | Zongchen WANG Zhiguo XU Ye YUAN Huaiwei YANG Lining SUN Peitao WANG Tingting FAN | 2023 | Science China Earth Sciences2023,66,5: | 0 |
| 14 | Soxllb regulates the migration and fate determination of Müller glia-derived progenitors during retina regeneration in zebrafish显示文摘The transcription factor Sox11 plays important roles in retinal neurogenesis during vertebrate eye development.However,its function in retina regeneration remains elusive.Here we report that Sox11 b,a zebrafish Sox11 homolog,regulates the migration and fate determination of Müller glia-derived progenitors(MGPCs)in an adult zebrafish model of mechanical retinal injury.Following a stab injury,the expression of Sox11 b was induced in proliferating MGPCs in the retina.Sox11 b knockdown did not affect MGPC formation at 4 days post-injury,although the nuclear morphology and subsequent radial migration of MGPCs were alte red.At 7 days post-injury,Sox11 b knockdown res ulted in an increased proportion of MGPCs in the inner retina and a decreased propo rtion of MGPCs in the outer nuclear layer,compared with controls.Furthermore,Sox11 b knockdown led to reduced photoreceptor regeneration,while it increased the numbe rs of newborn amacrines and retinal ganglion cells.Finally,quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis revealed that Sox11 b regulated the expression of Notch signaling components in the retina,and Notch inhibition partially recapitulated the Sox11 b knockdown phenotype,indicating that Notch signaling functions downstream of Sox11 b.Our findings imply that Sox11 b plays key roles in MGPC migration and fate determination during retina regeneration in zebrafish,which may have critical im plications for future explorations of retinal repair in mammals. | Kaida Song Zihao Lin Lining Cao Bowen Lu Yuxi Chen Shuqiang Zhang Jianfeng Lu Hui Xu | 2023 | Neural Regeneration Research2023,18,2: | 0 |

| 17 | Palladium nanoplates scotch breast cancer lung metastasis by constraining epithelial-mesenchymal transition显示文摘Metastasis accounts for the majority of cancer deaths in many tumor types including breast cancer.Epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)is the driving force for the occurrence and progression of metastasis,however,no targeted strategies to block the EMT program are currently available to combat metastasis.Diverse engineered nanomaterials(ENMs)have been reported to exert promising anti-cancer effects,however,no ENMs have been designed to target EMT.Palladium(Pd)nanomaterials,a type of ENM,have received substantial attention in nanomedicine due to their favorable photothermal performance for cancer therapeutics.Herein,Pd nanoplates(PdPL)were found to be preferentially biodistributed to both primary tumors and metastatic tumors.Importantly,PdPL showed a significant inhibition of lung metastasis with and without near-infrared(NIR)irradiation.Mechanistic investigations revealed that EMT was significantly compromised in breast cancer cells upon the PdPL treatment,which was partially due to the inhibition of the transforming growth factor-beta(TGF-β)signaling.Strikingly,the PdPL was found to directly interact with TGF-βproteins to diminish TGF-βfunctions in activating its downstream signaling,as evidenced by the reduced phosphorylation of Smad2.Notably,TGF-β-independent pathways were also involved in undermining EMT and other important biological processes that are necessary for metastasis.Additionally,NIR irradiation elicited synergistic effects on PdPL-induced inhibition of primary tumors and metastasis.In summary,these results revealed that the PdPL remarkably curbed metastasis by inhibiting EMT signaling,thereby indicating the promising potential of PdPL as a therapeutic agent for treating breast cancer metastasis. | Shunhao Wang Jingchao Li Mei Chen Liting Ren Wenya Feng Lining Xu Xiaolan Chen Tian Xia Nanfeng Zheng Sijin Liu | 2021 | National Science Review2021,8,7: | 0 |
