1First identification of kdr allele F1534S in VGSC gene and its association with resistance to pyrethroid insecticides in Aedes albopictus populations from Haikou City,Hainan Island,China显示文摘Background:Aedes albopictus is distributed widely in China,as a primary vector of Dengue fever and Chikungunya fever in south of China.Chemical insecticide control is one of the integrated programmes to prevent mosquito-borne diseases.Long-term applications of pyrethroids have resulted in the development of resistance in Ae.albopictus populations in China. However, the susceptibility of Ae.albopictus to pyrethroids in Hainan Island was unclear.Knockdown resistance(kdr),caused by point mutations in the VGSC gene,is one of the mechanisms that confer resistance to DDT and pyrethroids. This study was to investigate the resistance level of Ae.albopictus populations in Haikou City to three pyrethroid insecticides, and elucidate the relationship between the resistant phenotype and kdr mutations. Methods:The Aedes albopictus samples were collected in Xinbu Island(XI),Longtang Town(LT),Shishan Town(ST),Baishamen Park(BP),and Flower Market(FM)from Haikou City,Hainan Island,China. The larval susceptibility to deltamethrin, permethrin and beta-cypermethrin was tested by larval bioassays, and adult susceptibility to deltamethrin and DDT was determined by adult bioassays. The degree of resistance was determined by resistance ratio value(RR50>3)for larvae and by mortality for adult. The kdr alleles at codon 1534 of the VGSC gene were genotyped. The relationship between kdr genotypes and resistant phenotypes was analyzed by Chi-square test. Results:Out of five populations, assessed by larval bioassays,XI was susceptible to deltamethrin and permethrin;LT was susceptible to permethrin and beta-cypermethrin;and ST was susceptible to permithrin.FM and BP both were resistant to all of the three pyrethroids, and FM showed the highest degree of resistance, with RR50 values from 65.17 to 436.36.A total of 493 individuals from the larval bioassays were genotyped for kdr alleles.Five alleles were detected, including two wildtype alleles,TTC(F)(67.04%)and TTT(F)(0.41%),and three mutant alleles,TGC(C)(0.30%),TCC(S)(31.54%)and TTG(L)(0.71%).There was a clear correlation between mutant alleles(or F1534S)and resistant phenotypes(P<0.01).Conclusion:Two novel kdr mutant alleles F1534S and F1534L were detected in the pyrethroid resistant populations of Ae.albopictus in Haikou Hainan,China. For the first time, the mutant F1534S was associated with pyrethroid resistance in Ae.albopictus.Huiying Chen Kaili Li Xiaohua Wang Xinyan Yang Yi Lin Fang Cai Wenbin Zhong Chunyan Lin Zhongling Lin Yajun Ma 2016Infectious Diseases of Poverty2016,5,1:19
2The development of collagen based composite scaffolds for bone regeneration显示文摘Bone is consisted of bone matrix, cells and bioactive factors, and bone matrix is the combination of inorganic minerals and organic polymers.Type I collagen fibril made of five triple-helical collagen chains is the main organic polymer in bone matrix. It plays an important role in the bone formation and remodeling process. Moreover, collagen is one of the most commonly used scaffold materials for bone tissue engineering due to its excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability. However, the low mechanical strength and osteoinductivity of collagen limit its wider applications in bone regeneration field.By incorporating different biomaterials, the properties such as porosity, structural stability, osteoinductivity, osteogenicity of collagen matrixes can be largely improved. This review summarizes and categorizes different kinds of biomaterials including bioceramic, carbon and polymer materials used as components to fabricate collagen based composite scaffolds for bone regeneration. Moreover, the possible directions of future research and development in this field are also proposed.Dawei Zhang Xiaowei Wu Jingdi Chen Kaili Lin 2018Bioactive Materials2018,3,1:16

4A comparative study of the osteogenic performance between the hierarchical micro/submicro-textured 3D-printed Ti6Al4V surface and the SLA surface显示文摘Three-dimensional(3D)printed titanium and its alloys have broad application prospect in the field of biomedical implant materials, although the biological performance of the original surface should be improved.Learning from the development experience of conventional titanium implants,to construct a hierarchical hybrid topological surface is the future direction of efforts.Since the original 3D-printed(3D hereafter)Ti6Al4V surface inherently has micron-scale features,in the present study,we introduced submicron-scale pits on the original surface by acid etching to obtain a hierarchical micro/submicro-textured surface. The characteristic and biological performance of the 3D-printed and acid-etched(3DA hereafter)surface were evaluated in vitro and in vivo, compared with the conventional sandblasted,large-grit,acid-etched(SLA hereafter)surface. Our results suggested the adhesion, proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow derived mesenchymal stromal cells(BMSCs),as well as the in vivo osseointegration on 3DA surfaces were significantly improved. However, the overall osteogenic performance of the 3DA surface was not as good as the conventional SLA surface.Jinkai Zhanga Jiaqiang Liu Chengtao Wang Fengshan Chen Xudong Wang Kaili Lin 2020Bioactive Materials2020,5,1:8
53D-printed surface promoting osteogenic differentiation and angiogenetic factor expression of BMSCs on Ti6Al4V implants and early osseointegration in vivo显示文摘Three-dimensional-printed(3 D-P) titanium implants display many advantages, such as design flexibility, higher efficiency, the capability to easily construct complex or customized structures, etc., and is believed to potentially replace traditional implants. However, the biological performance of the 3 D-P titanium surface has not been investigated systematically. Herein, we analyzed the surface characteristics of 3 D-P Ti6 Al4 V implants and evaluated the biological responses of bone marrow derived mesenchymal stromal cells(BMSCs) to the 3 D-P surface in vitro. Moreover, after implantation into the rat femoral condyle for3 and 6 weeks, the osseointegration performance was evaluated. The results showed the 3 D-P Ti6 Al4 V implant presented distinct fluctuant macroscale rough surface and relatively better hydrophilicity which enhanced the adhesion, proliferation, osteogenic differentiation and angiogenetic factor expression of BMSCs. Moreover, the in vivo osseointegration performance was also better than that of the control group at the early stage. The present study suggested the 3 D-P titanium alloy is a promising candidate to be used as implant material.Jinkai Zhang Wenhui Zhou Hui Wang Kaili Lin Fengshan Chen 2019Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,2:6
6Intelligent identification of two-dimensional nanostructures by machine-learning optical microscopy显示文摘Two-dimensional (2D)materials and their heterostructures, with wafer-scale synthesis methods and fascinating properties, have attracted significant interest and triggered revolutions in corresponding device applications. However, facile methods to realize accurate, intelligent, and large-area characterizations of these 2D nanostructures are still highly desired.Herein,we report the successful application of machine-learning strategy in the optical identification of 2D nanostructures. The machine-leaming optical identification (MOI)method endows optical microscopy with intelligent insight into the characteristic color information of 2D nanostructures in the optical photograph. The experimental results indicate that the MOI method enables accurate, intelligent, and large-area characterizations of graphene, molybdenum disulfide, and their heterostructures, including identifications of the thickness, existence of impurities, and even stacking order. With the convergence of artificial intelligence and nanoscience, this intelligent identification method can certainly promote fundamental research and wafer-scale device applications of 2D nanostructures.Xiaoyang Lin Zhizhong Si Wenzhi Fu Jianlei Yang Side Guo Yuan Cao Jin Zhang Xinhe Wang Peng Liu Kaili Jiang Weisheng Zhao 2018Nano Research2018,11,12:5
7Calcium silicate bioactive ceramics induce osteogenesis through oncostatin M显示文摘Immune reactions are a key factor in determining the destiny of bone substitute materials after implantation.Macrophages, the most vital factor in the immune response affecting implants, are critical in bone formation,as well as bone biomaterial-mediated bone repair. Therefore,it is critical to design materials with osteoimmunomodulatory properties to reduce host-to-material inflammatory responses by inducing macrophage polarization. Our previous study showed that calcium silicate(CS)bioceramics could significantly promote osteogenesis.Herein,we further investigated the effects of CS on the behavior of macrophages and how macrophages regulated osteogenesis.Under CS extract stimulation, the macrophage phenotype was converted to the M2 extreme.Stimulation by a macrophage-conditioned medium that was pretreated by CS extracts resulted in a significant enhancement of osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs),indicating the important role of macrophage polarization in biomaterial-induced osteogenesis.Mechanistically, oncostatin M(OSM)in the macrophage-conditioned medium promoted osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs through the ERK1/2 and JAK3 pathways. This in vivo study further demonstrated that CS bioceramics could stimulate osteogenesis better thanβ-TCP implants by accelerating new bone formation at defective sites in the femur. These findings improve our understanding of immune modulation of CS bioactive ceramics and facilitate strategies to improve the in vitro osteogenesis capability of bone substitute materials.Panyu Zhou Demeng Xia Zhexin Ni Tianle Ou Yang Wang Hongyue Zhang Lixia Mao Kaili Lin Shuogui Xu Jiaqiang Liu 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,3:5
8The synergistic effect of 3D-printed microscale roughness surface and nanoscale feature on enhancing osteogenic differentiation and rapid osseointegration显示文摘Personalized precision therapy and rapid osseointegration are the main development directions of dental implants.3 D printing is a vital advanced manufacturing technology for personalized precision therapy. However, the osteogenesis of the 3 D printed Ti6 Al4 V implants is unsatisfactory. From the bionic perspective, the hierarchical micro/nano-topography can mimic the microenvironment of the multilevel structure of natural bone tissue and may endow the implant surface with superior bioactivity. In the present study, the hierarchical micro/nano-topography was successfully fabricated by construction the nanoscale feature on 3 D printed microscale roughness surface of 3 D-printed Ti6 Al4 V implants by alkali-heat treatment and hydrothermal treatment. Then the cell biological responses in vitro and osseointegration performance in vivo were systematically evaluated. The hierarchical micro/nano-topography evidently increased the roughness, improved the hydrophilicity and accelerated the hydroxyapatite deposition and mineralization, which significantly enhanced the adhesion, differentiation and extracellular matrix mineralization of bone marrow derived mesenchymal stromal cells(BMSCs).Most importantly, the hierarchical micro/nano-topography on 3 D-printed implants facilitated the new bone formation and rapid osseointegration in vivo. Our study suggested that 3 D-printed implant with micro/nano-topography may be a promising candidate to be applied in orthopedic field to meet the need of customized therapy and rapid osseointegration.Hui Wang Jiaqiang Liu Chengtao Wang Steve Guofang Shen Xudong Wang Kaili Lin 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,4:5

10Challenges and strategies for in situ endothelialization and long-term lumen patency of vascular grafts显示文摘Vascular diseases are the most prevalent cause of ischemic necrosis of tissue and organ, which even result in dysfunction and death.Vascular regeneration or artificial vascular graft,as the conventional treatment modality, has received keen attentions.However,small-diameter(diameter<4 mm)vascular grafts have a high risk of thrombosis and intimal hyperplasia(IH),which makes long-term lumen patency challengeable.Endothelial cells(ECs)form the inner endothelium layer, and are crucial for anti-coagulation and thrombogenesis. Thus, promoting in situ endothelialization in vascular graft remodeling takes top priority, which requires recruitment of endothelia progenitor cells(EPCs),migration, adhesion, proliferation and activation of EPCs and ECs.Chemotaxis aimed at ligands on EPC surface can be utilized for EPC homing, while nanofibrous structure, biocompatible surface and cell-capturing molecules on graft surface can be applied for cell adhesion. Moreover, cell orientation can be regulated by topography of scaffold, and cell bioactivity can be modulated by growth factors and therapeutic genes.Additionally, surface modification can also reduce thrombogenesis, and some drug release can inhibit IH.Considering the influence of macrophages on ECs and smooth muscle cells(SMCs),scaffolds loaded with drugs that can promote M2 polarization are alternative strategies. In conclusion, the advanced strategies for enhanced long-term lumen patency of vascular grafts are summarized in this review.Strategies for recruitment of EPCs,adhesion, proliferation and activation of EPCs and ECs,anti-thrombogenesis,anti-IH,and immunomodulation are discussed.Ideal vascular grafts with appropriate surface modification, loading and fabrication strategies are required in further studies.Yu Zhuang Chenglong Zhang Mengjia Cheng Jinyang Huang Qingcheng Liu Guangyin Yuan Kaili Lin Hongbo Yu 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,6:5
11Gaseous sulfur trioxide induced controllable sulfonation promoting biomineralization and osseointegration of polyetheretherketone implants显示文摘Fabricating a desired porous structure on the surface of biomedical polyetheretherketone(PEEK)implants for enhancing biological functions is crucial and difficult due to its inherent chemical inertness. In this study,a porous surface of PEEK implants was fabricated by controllable sulfonation using gaseous sulfur trioxide(SO3)for different time(5,15,30,60 and 90 min).Micro-topological structure was generated on the surface of sulfonated PEEK implants preserving original mechanical properties. The protein absorption capacity and apatite forming ability was thus improved by the morphological and elemental change with higher degree of sulfonation. In combination of the appropriate micromorphology and bioactive sulfonate components, the cell adhesion, migration, proliferation and extracellular matrix secretion were obviously enhanced by the SPEEK-15 samples which were sulfonated for 15 min.Finding from this study revealed that controllable sulfonation by gaseous SO3 would be an extraordinarily strategy for improving osseointegration of PEEK implants by adjusting the microstructure and chemical composition while maintaining excellent mechanical properties.Teng Wan Zixue Jiao Min Guo Zongliang Wang Yizao Wan Kaili Lin Qinyi Liu Peibiao Zhang 2020Bioactive Materials2020,5,4:5
12Breakthrough of extracellular vesicles in pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of osteoarthritis显示文摘Osteoarthritis(OA)is a highly prevalent whole-joint disease that causes disability and pain and affects a patient’s quality of life. However, currently, there is a lack of effective early diagnosis and treatment.Although stem cells can promote cartilage repair and treat OA,problems such as immune rejection and tumorigenicity persist.Extracellular vesicles(EVs)can transmit genetic information from donor cells and mediate intercellular communication, which is considered a functional paracrine factor of stem cells.Increasing evidences suggest that EVs may play an essential and complex role in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of OA.Here,we introduced the role of EVs in OA progression by influencing inflammation, metabolism, and aging.Next,we discussed EVs from the blood, synovial fluid, and joint-related cells for diagnosis. Moreover,we outlined the potential of modified and unmodified EVs and their combination with biomaterials for OA therapy. Finally,we discuss the deficiencies and put forward the prospects and challenges related to the application of EVs in the field of OA.Zichang Liu Yu Zhuang Lianfei Fang Changyong Yuan Xudong Wang Kaili Lin 2023Bioactive Materials2023,,4:3
13Recent advances in smart stimuli-responsive biomaterials for bone therapeutics and regeneration显示文摘Bone defects combined with tumors, infections, or other bone diseases are challenging in clinical practice. Autologous and allogeneic grafts are two main traditional remedies, but they can cause a series of complications. To address this problem, researchers have constructed various implantable biomaterials. However, the original pathological microenvironment of bone defects, such as residual tumors, severe infection, or other bone diseases, could further affect bone regeneration. Thus, the rational design of versatile biomaterials with integrated bone therapy and regeneration functions is in great demand. Many strategies have been applied to fabricate smart stimuli-responsive materials for bone therapy and regeneration, with stimuli related to external physical triggers or endogenous disease microenvironments or involving multiple integrated strategies. Typical external physical triggers include light irradiation, electric and magnetic fields, ultrasound, and mechanical stimuli. These stimuli can transform the internal atomic packing arrangements of materials and affect cell fate, thus enhancing bone tissue therapy and regeneration. In addition to the external stimuli-responsive strategy, some specific pathological microenvironments, such as excess reactive oxygen species and mild acidity in tumors, specific p H reduction and enzymes secreted by bacteria in severe infection, and electronegative potential in bone defect sites, could be used as biochemical triggers to activate bone disease therapy and bone regeneration.Herein, we summarize and discuss the rational construction of versatile biomaterials with bone therapeutic and regenerative functions. The specific mechanisms, clinical applications, and existing limitations of the newly designed biomaterials are also clarified.Hongpu Wei Jinjie Cui Kaili Lin Jing Xie Xudong Wang 2022Bone Research2022,10,1:3
14Monolithic superaligned carbon nanotube composite with integrated rewriting, actuating and sensing multifunctions显示文摘Multifunctionality has become a mainstream trend in the development of smart clothing and flexible wearable devices.Nevertheless,it remains a grand challenge to realize multiple functions, such as sensing, actuating and information displaying,in one single multifunctional material. Here,we present one multifunctional integration strategy by employing monolithic superaligned carbon nanotube(SACNT)composite, which can leverage three different functions through fascinating features of SACNT.Firstly,by using thermochromic dye as a color-memorizing component and SACNT as a photothermal converter, the composite film can be utilized as a flexible rewritable medium. It demonstrates excellent rewriting performances(reversibility>500 times).Secondly, the composite can be tailored to fabricate an actuator, when its length direction is along the SACNT alignment. The actuator shows a bending-morphing when illuminated by near-infrared light. The morphing is attributed to a large difference in volume change between the SACNT and polymer when the SACNT absorbs the optical energy and heats the composite.Thirdly, owing to the unique anisotropy of SACNT,the composite is easily to be stretched in the direction perpendicular to the SACNT alignment, accompanied by a change in electrical resistance. Therefore, the composite is able to be used as a strain sensor. Finally,we fabricate two smart wearable devices to demonstrate the applications, which realize the functions of human-motion detection(sensing)and rewritable information display(rewriting)simultaneously. This multifunctional SACNT composite is expected to have potential applications in the next-generation wearable devices, smart clothing and so on.Peidi Zhou Wei Zhang Luzhuo Chen Jian Lin Zhiling Luo Changhong Liu Kaili Jiang 2021Nano Research2021,14,7:2
15Coarsening kinetics of γ' precipitates in a Re-containing Ni-based single crystal superalloy during long-term aging显示文摘The morphological evolution and coarsening kinetics ofγ'precipitates in a Re-containing Ni-based single crystal superalloy were investigated during isothermal aging at 900,950 and 1000℃.After heat treatment,well-defined cuboidalγ'precipitates with low misfit was obtained within the experimental alloy. Then coarsening rate constants and particle size distribution(PSD)ofγ'phases were calculated and specified based on the measured precipitate sizes for va rying periods of aging times from 100 to 2000 h.After aging for 2000 h,γ'precipitates maintained cubical shape at 900℃,while exhibited sphere at 950 and 1000℃.Coarsening models based on diffusion-controlled process with a functional relationship of r^(3) vs.t(classic Lifshitz-Slyozov-Wagner coarsening model)and interface-controlled model with a function of r^(2) vs.t(trans-interface diffusion-controlled coarsening model)were investigated to fit between the experimental results and theoretical analysis. It was found that Re as the slowest diffusing solute in the alloy constituted the rate-limited step for coarsening based on LSW model, while the process limiting coarsening as governed by an interface diffusion process could possibly be related to the Al diffusion through theγ/γ'interface.The PSDs and coarsening exponent were discussed by comparing the experimental data with predictions of LSW and TIDC models. Finally, coarsening mechanism could be divided into four regimes:(i)coarsening by diffusion-controlled;(ii)coarsening by diffusion and interface cocontrolled;(iii)coarsening by interface-controlled;(iv)coarsening by interface-controlled accompanied withγ'coalescence.Jiachen Zhang Lin Liu Taiwen Huang Jia Chen Kaili Cao Xinxin Liu Jun Zhang Hengzhi Fu 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,3:2
16Impact of long-term chemical fertilizer and organic amendment to Fusarium root rot of soybean显示文摘Soil suppressiveness to Fusarium root rot of soybean had been observed in a black soil field after a long-term fertilization with nitrogen(N)and phosphorus(P)fertilizer combined with pig manure as organic amendment(NPM),rather than that with only nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer(NP)or no fertilizer(NF).To determine the microbial role on this suppressiveness, fungal and bacterial community characteristics in NPM,NP and NF treatments were investigated by q PCR and DGGE.Compared with the similar bacterial community characteristics among 3 treatments, fungal community, especially Fusarium population size and community composition in NPM treatment were different with those of NP and NF groups.Based on the isolation and pathogenicity test, pathogenic F.oxysporum,F.graminearum,F.verticillioide and F.lateritium absolutely dominated Fusarium community in NF and NP groups.Nonpathogenic F.avenaceum,F.equiseti,F.culmorum,F.redolens,F.solani and F.tricinctum dominated Fusarium community in NPM group.Isolation rate of pathogenic Fusarium in NPM reduced from 100%to 38%in NF.These results suggested that the dominance of soil non-pathogenic Fusarium population induced by organic amendment might play an important role on suppressing Fusarium root rot in the tested field.Kaili Wang Xinyu Hu Sai Yang Kaiyan Xing Xin Zhang Lin Zhu Xiaozeng Han Yanli Xu Wei Wei 2020Oil Crop Science2020,5,1:2
17T-QoS-aware based parallel ant colony algorithm for services composition显示文摘In order to make cloud users get credible, high-quality composition of services, the trust quality of service aware(TQoS-aware) based parallel ant colony algorithm is proposed. Our approach takes the service credibility as the weight of the quality of service, then calculates the trust service quality T-QoS for each service, making the service composition situated in a credible environment. Through the establishment on a per-service T-QoS initialization pheromone matrix, we can reduce the colony's initial search time. By modifying the pheromone updating rules and introducing two ant colonies to search from different angles in parallel,we can avoid falling into the local optimal solution, and quickly find the optimal combination of global solutions. Experiments show that our approach can combine high-quality services and the improvement of the operational success rate. Also, the convergence rate and the accuracy of optimal combination are improved.Lin Zhang Kaili Rao Ruchuan Wang 2015Journal of Systems Science & Complexity2015,28,5:2
18A comparative study of proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of rat adipose-derived stem cells in β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP), forsterite (Mg_2SiO_4 ) and clinoenstatite (MgSiO_3)显示文摘In this study, the effects of forsterite and clinoenstatite powder extracts on the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of rat adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) were investigated and compared with the β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) powder extracts. Methylthiazolyldiphenyl-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and live-dead staining were performed to evaluate the viability and proliferation of rat ASCs. Osteogenic differentiation of rat ASCs were assayed by alkaline phosphatase (ALP) staining and ALP activity test. The expression of osteogenic marker genes (alkaline phosphatase (ALP), runt related transcription factor 2 (Runx2), collagen type Iα1 (Col1α1), secreted phosphoprotein1 (Spp1, osteopontin), integrin binding sialoprotein (Ibsp), bone gla protein (Bglap)) were detected by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The MTT assay and the live-dead staining showed that all the three ceramics possessed good cytocompatibility with rat ASCs. Furthermore, forsterite and clinoenstatite promoted the proliferation of rat ASCs compared with β-TCP. The results of the ALP activity test and the real-time PCR demonstrated that forsterite and clinoenstatite promoted the osteogenic differentiation of rat ASCs. These results suggested that forsterite and clinoenstatite are bioactive ceramics that may be used for preparation of bone tissue engineering (BTE) scaffolds.LENG Bin JIN XiaoGang LIN QiuXia CHEN Lei WANG Yan DU ZhiYan LIN KaiLi CHANG Jiang GU XiaoMing WANG ChangYong 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,24:2
