| 1 | Effect of dietary incorporation of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids rich oil sources on fatty acid profile, keeping quality and sensory attributes of broiler chicken meat显示文摘The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of dietary replacement of commonly used vegetable oil(sunflower oil, SFO) with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFA) rich oil sources on broiler chicken performance, carcass yield, meat fatty acid composition, keeping quality and sensory attributes of meat. In the current experiment, 300 day-old Krishibro broiler chicks were randomly distributed to 5 dietary groups(50 replicates with 6 chicks in each) prepared by replacing SFO(2% and 3% of diet during starter and finisher periods, respectively) with n-3 PUFA rich soybean oil(SO), mustard oil(MO), linseed oil(LO) or fish oil(FO) on weight basis. Variation in oil sources had no influence(P > 0.05) on performance and carcass yield. Supplementation of MO, LO or FO significantly(P < 0.01) increased the n-3 PUFA, lowered the n-6 PUFA deposition and n-6:n-3 ratio in breast and thigh without affecting the organoleptic characters(appearance, flavour, juiciness, tenderness and overall acceptability) of meat.However, thiobarbituric acid reacting substances concentration in meat was increased(P < 0.01) with LO and FO supplementation compared with SFO. | 2 | Genetic association study of P2x7 A1513C(rs 3751143) polymorphism and susceptibility to pulmonary tuberculosis: A meta-analysis based on the findings of 11 case-control studies显示文摘Objective:To summarize the precise association between pulmonary tuberculosis(PTB) and P2x7 A1513 C gene polymorphism.Methods:PubMed and Google Scholar web-databases were searched for the studies reporting the association of P2x7 A1513 C polymorphism and PTB risk.A meta-analysis was performed for the selected case-control studies and pooled odds ratios(ORs) and 95%confidence intervals(95%CIs) were calculated for all the genetic models.Results:Eleven studies comprising 2 678 controls and 2 113 PTB cases were included in this meta-analysis.We observed overall no significant risk in all the five genetic models.When stratified population by the ethnicity,Caucasian population failed to show any risk of PTB in all the genetics models.In Asian ethnicity,variant allele(C vs.A:P=0.001;QR=1.375,95%CI=1.159-1.632) and heterozygous genotype(AC vs.AA:P=0.001;OR=1.570,95%CI=1.269-1.944) demonstrated significant increased risk of PTB.Likewise,recessive genetic model(CC+AC vs.AA:P=0.001;OR=1.540,95%CI= 1.255-1.890) also demonstrated increased risk of PTB in Asians.Conclusions:Our meta-analysis did not suggest the association of P2x7 A1513 C polymorphism with PTB risk in overall or separately in Caucasian population.However,it plays a significant risk factor for predisposing PTB in Asians.Future larger sample and expression studies are needed to validate this association. | Eyad M.A.Alshammari Raju K.Mandal Mohd Wahid Sajad A.Dar Arshad Jawed Mohammed Y.Areeshi Saif Khan Md.Ekhlaque Ahmed Khan Aditya K.Panda Shafiul Haque | 2016 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2016,9,12: | 1 |
| 3 | Communication outcomes following cochlear implantation in a child with cystic cochleovestibular anomaly显示文摘Cochlear implantation is one of the best amongst the various management options available for children and adults with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss.Inner ear and internal auditory canal(IAC) malformations accounts to approximately 25% of congenital sensorineural hearing loss in children.The primary goal of this report was to evaluate the communication outcomes after cochlear implantation in a child with cystic cochleovestibular anomaly(CCVA).The child was evaluated through various standardized outcome measures at regular intervals to track the progress in terms of auditory and spoken language skills.The scores on Categories of Auditory Perception(CAP),Meaningful Auditory Integration Scale(MAIS),Speech Intelligibility Rating(SIR),Meaningful Use of Speech Scale(MUSS),and listening and spoken language skills showed a significant leap in 12 months duration post implantation.The report thus highlights and correlates the significant progress in auditory and spoken language skills of the child with congenital malformations to appropriate auditory rehabilitation and intensive parental training. | N.Banumathy Naresh K.Panda | 2016 | Journal of Otology2016,11,1: | 1 |

| 5 | Does preoperative bacterial culture have bearing on healing of mastoid cavity:A prospective study显示文摘Objective: To study the bacteriological profile in a healing mastoid cavity.Methods: This study was a single centre prospective study. Culture swabs from granulations in the mastoid cavity were sent in 40 consecutive patients with squamosal chronic otitis media undergoing mastoidectomy. Cultures were processed for both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.Results: Preoperatively: specimens from 26 out of 40(60.5%) had growth on culture, with 22(55%)showing only one organism while 4 showing multiple organisms. The commonest organism isolated was pseudomonas aeruginosa(n = 15).At 1 month after mastoidctomy, 11 patients had sterile culture while 29 had growth, of which 26 had aerobic growth and 3 had anaerobic growth. Pseudomonas was seen in 22 patients and staphylococcus aureus in 2 patients. The mean Merchant score was 2.At 3 months: 29 patients(72.5%) had sterile culture from mastoid cavity while 11 patients(27.5%) had growth on culture. All positive cultures were aerobic, including pseudomonas(n = 9) and proteus(n = 2).The mean Merchant score was 1.03. Of the 40 patients, 16(40%) had a different organism cultured postoperatively compared to preoperative swabs.Conclusion: Pseudomonas and proteus seem to be the most common organisms responsible for persistent otorrhea after mastoidectomy. Persistent sterile otorrhea was seen in 4 patients(10%) in this group at the end of 3 months. | 6 | Molecular characterization and expression patterns of Nanog gene validating its involvement in the embryonic development and maintenance of spermatogonial stem cells of farmed carp,Labeo rohita显示文摘Background: The homeobox containing transcription factor Nanog plays crucial roles in embryonic development/proliferation and/or maintenance of spermatogonial stem cells(SSCs) via interacting with transcription factors such as Oct4 and Sox2 in mammals. However, knowledge of its exact mechanistic pathways remains unexploited. Very little is known about teleost Nanog. Information on the Nanog gene of farmed rohu carp(Labeo rohita) is lacking. We cloned and characterized the Nanog gene of rohu carp to understand the expression pattern in early developmental stages and also deduced the genomic organization including promoter elements.Results: Rohu Nanog(LrNanog) cDNA comprised an open reading frame of 1,161 nucleotides bearing a structural homeodomain; whereas, the genomic structure contained four exons and three introns suggesting that it is homologous to mammalian counterparts. Phylogenetical y, it was closely related to freshwater counterparts. Protein sequence(386 AA of42.65 kDa) comparison revealed its low similarity with other vertebrate counterparts except that of the conserved homeodomain. Tissue distribution analysis revealed the existence of LrNanog transcripts only in adult gonads. The heightened abundances in the ovary and proliferating spermatogonia suggested its participations in maternal inheritance and male germ cell development. The potentiating abundances from fertilized egg onwards peaking at blastula stage vis-à-vis decreasing levels from gastrula stage onwards demonstrated its role in embryonic stem cell development. We also provided evidence of its presence in SSCs by western blotting analysis. Further, the promoter region was characterized, predicting a basal core promoter and other consensus elements.Conclusion: The molecular characterization of LrNanog and its documented expression profiling at transcript and protein levels are indicative of its functional linkage with embryonic/spermatogonial stem cell maintenance. This is the first report of LrNanog genomic organization including its promoter sequence information with predicted regulatory elements of a large-bodied carp species. This will be useful for elucidating its mechanism expression in future. | 7 | Outcome measures following tele-rehabilitation and conventional face to face rehabilitation in paediatric cochlear implant users during COVID-19 pandemic:A pilot study in a tertiary care setup显示文摘Background:Following the COVID-19 pandemic,majority of paediatric cochlear implantees(CI)lost follow ups for rehabilitation and tele-therapy was initiated.Present study thus compared the outcome measures of paediatric CI users on tele-therapy versus conventional face to face therapy following COVID-19 pandemic.Method:Twenty seven unilateral paediatric cochlear implantees in the age range of 2e11 years were divided into two groups based on the therapy modality,viz,tele-and face-to-face therapy.Based on the hearing age,participants were further divided into three groups,viz,0e2,2e4,and greater than four years.A complete the test battery comprising Integrated Scales of Development,Speech Intelligibility Rating scale,and Revised Categorical Auditory Perception were administered.The speech&language test battery was performed prior to initiating the rehabilitation and post 12 months of rehabilitation.Results:Results of the present study revealed that conventional rehabilitation had better outcomes compared to teletherapy.The rate of progress after one year of rehabilitation with respect to hearing-age showed a significant difference for the hearing-age group of 0e2 years across the domains of audition,speech and language.Conclusion:The present study indicates that conventional method of the speech-language and auditory rehabilitation is far better compared to the tele rehabilitation services especially for those visiting tertiary care hospitals as most of them belong to lower and middle socioeconomic status.From the results,it can be delineated that with lesser hearing experience,paediatric CI users always need to initially enroll for conventional therapy for better speech-language and auditory outcomes. | Himanshu Verma Banumathy N Roshani Mishra Naresh K.Panda | 2022 | Journal of Otology2022,17,1: | 0 |
