| 1 | A fiber optoacoustic guide with augmented reality for precision breastconserving surgery显示文摘Lumpectomy,also called breast-conserving surgery,has become the standard surgical treatment for early-stage breast cancer.However,accurately locating the tumor during a lumpectomy,especially when the lesion is small and nonpalpable,is a challenge.Such difficulty can lead to either incomplete tumor removal or prolonged surgical time,which result in high re-operation rates(~25%)and increased surgical costs.Here,we report a fiber optoacoustic guide(FOG)with augmented reality(AR)for sub-millimeter tumor localization and intuitive surgical guidance with minimal interference.The FOG is preoperatively implanted in the tumor.Under external pulsed light excitation,the FOG omnidirectionally broadcasts acoustic waves through the optoacoustic effect by a specially designed nano-composite layer at its tip.By capturing the acoustic wave,three ultrasound sensors on the breast skin triangulate the FOG tip’s position with 0.25-mm accuracy.An AR system with a tablet measures the coordinates of the ultrasound sensors and transforms the FOG tip’s position into visual feedback with<1-mm accuracy,thus aiding surgeons in directly visualizing the tumor location and performing fast and accurate tumor removal.We further show the use of a head-mounted display to visualize the same information in the surgeons’first-person view and achieve hands-free guidance.Towards clinical application,a surgeon successfully deployed the FOG to excise a“pseudo tumor”in a female human cadaver.With the high-accuracy tumor localization by FOG and the intuitive surgical guidance by AR,the surgeon performed accurate and fast tumor removal,which will significantly reduce re-operation rates and shorten the surgery time. | Lu Lan Yan Xia Rui Li Kaiming Liu Jieying Mai Jennifer Anne Medley Samilia Obeng-Gyasi Linda K.Han Pu Wang Ji-Xin Cheng | 2018 | Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1: | 4 |

| 8 | Predictive value of pituitary tumor morphology on outcomes and complications in endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery显示文摘Purpose:Endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery(ETSS)is an increasingly utilized approach for resection of pituitary tumors.Prior studies have evaluated preoperative tumor size,location,and extent as prognostic factors for surgical resection.There is little data on the relationship between preoperative pituitary tumor radiographic morphology and surgical outcomes.Study Design:Retrospective longitudinal study.Setting:Single tertiary care institution.Subjects and Methods:Preoperative magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography scans from patients undergoing ETSS for pituitary tumor resections from 2007 to 2017 were retrospectively evaluated.A neuroradiologist classified these pituitary tumors into six morphologic groups,each defined by volume,dimensions,extension,and shape.Surgical difficulty,rates of incomplete resection,and postoperative complications were then stratified in relation to the morphologic groups.Results:Pituitary tumors from 131 patients were classified from preoperative imaging into six characteristic morphologies:(1)microtumor,(2)round,(3)transverse oblong,(4)superior-inferior oblong,(5)bilobed,and(6)large lobulated.Tumors that were characterized with the large lobulated,bilobed,and transverse oblong morphologies correlated with higher rates of postoperative evidence of residual tumor(70%,36%,and 47%,respectively,all P<0.002).Likewise,large lobulated,bilobed,and transverse oblong morphologies were also associated with intraoperative cerebrospinal fluid leaks(70%,31%,and 35%,respectively,all P<0.05).Conclusions:We describe a novel descriptive system for the morphology of pituitary tumors that can be determined from preoperative imaging.Different tumor morphologic groups are associated with varying degrees of gross tumor resection,complications,and surgical difficulty.Utilizing pituitary tumor morphology may aid surgeons in planning the extent of resection,need for complex closure,and patient counseling. | Andrew T.Heffernan Joseph K.Han John Campbell James Reese William G.Day Joshua Edwards Ran V.Singh Wylie Zhu Kent K.Lam | 2022 | World Journal of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery2022,8,4: | 1 |

| 10 | Modelling of Magnetorheological Fluids with Combined Lattice Boltzmann and Discrete Element Approach显示文摘A combined lattice Boltzmann and discrete element approach is proposedfor numerical modelling of magnetorheological fluids. In its formulation, the particledynamics is simulated by the discrete element method, while the fluid field is resolvedwith the lattice Boltzmann method. The coupling between the fluid and the particlesare realized through the hydrodynamic interactions. Procedures for computing magnetic, contact and hydrodynamic forces are discussed in detail. The applicability ofthe proposed solution procedure is illustrated via a two-stage simulation of a MR fluidproblem with four different particle volume fractions.
