| 1 | Seismic damage of highway bridges during the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake显示文摘Many highway bridges were severely damaged or completely collapsed during the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake.A fi eld investigation was carried out in the strongly affected areas and over 320 bridges were examined.Damage to some representative highway bridges is briefly described and a preliminary analysis of the probable causes of the damage is presented in this paper.The most common damage included shear-flexural failure of the pier columns,expansion joint failure,shear key failure,and girder sliding in the transversal or longitudinal directions due to weak connections between girder and bearings.Lessons learned from this earthquake are described and recommendations related to the design of curved and skewed bridges,design of bearings and devices to prevent girder collapse,and ductility of bridge piers are presented.Suggestions for future seismic design and retrofi tting techniques for bridges in moderate to severe earthquake areas are also proposed. | Han Qiang Du Xiuli Liu Jingbo Li Zhongxian Li Liyun Zhao Jianfeng | 2009 | Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2009,8,2: | 60 |

| 4 | Simulation of shock wave buffet and its suppression on an OAT15A supercritical airfoil by IDDES显示文摘In the present paper,extremely unsteady shock wave buffet induced by strong shock wave/boundary-layer interactions (SWBLI) on the upper surface of an OAT15A supercritical airfoil at Mach number of 0.73 and angle of attack of 3.5 degrees is first numerically simulated by IDDES,one of the most advanced RANS/LES hybrid methods.The results imply that conventional URANS methods are unable to effectively predict the buffet phenomenon on the wing surface;IDDES,which involves more flow physics,predicted buffet phenomenon.Some complex flow phenomena are predicted and demonstrated,such as periodical oscillations of shock wave in the streamwise direction,strong shear layer detached from the shock wave due to SWBLI and plenty of small scale structures broken down by the shear layer instability and in the wake.The root mean square (RMS) of fluctuating pressure coefficients and streamwise range of shock wave oscillation reasonably agree with experimental data.Then,two vortex generators (VG) both with an inclination angle of 30 degrees to the main flow directions are mounted in front of the shock wave region on the upper surface to suppress shock wave buffet.The results show that shock wave buffet can be significantly suppressed by VGs,the RMS level of pressure in the buffet region is effectively reduced,and averaged shock wave position is obviously pushed downstream,resulting in increased total lift. | HUANG JingBo XIAO ZhiXiang LIU Jian FU Song | 2012 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2012,55,2: | 24 |

| 11 | Puerarin reduces apoptosis in rat hippocampal neurons cultured in high glucose medium by modulating the p38 mitogen activated protein kinase and c-Jun N-terminal kinase signaling pathways显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate the neuroprotective effect of puerarin on rat hippocampal neurons cultured in high glucose medium, and to examine the role of the p38 mitogen activated protein kinase(p38 MAPK) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK) signaling pathways in this effect.METHODS: Primary cultures of hippocampal neurons were prepared from newborn Sprague Dawley rats. Neuron-specific enolase immunocytochemistry was used to identify neurons. The neurons were cultured with normal medium(control group) or with high-glucose medium(high-glucose group),and puerarin(puerarin group), a p38 MAPK inhibitor(SB239063; p38 MAPK inhibitor group) or a JNK inhibitor(SP600125; JNK inhibitor group) were added. After 72 h of treatment, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated d UTP nick end labeling assay was performed to detect apoptosis, and western blotting was used to assess protein levels of p-p38, p38, p-JNK and JNK.RESULTS: In the high-glucose group, the neuronal apoptosis rate and the p-p38/p38 and p-JNK/JNK ratios were higher than in the control group. The p38 MAPK and JNK inhibitors prevented this increase in the apoptosis rate. The apoptosis rates in the puerarin group, the p38 MAPK inhibitor group and the JNK inhibitor group were significantly decreased compared with the high-glucose group.Moreover, protein levels of p-p38 and p-JNK were significantly reduced, and the p-p38/p38 and p-JNK/JNK ratios were decreased in the puerarin group compared with the high-glucose group. | 13 | Petrogenesis of mafic enclaves from the north Taihang Yanshanian intermediate to felsic plutons: Evidence from petrological, geochemical, and zircon Hf-O isotopic data显示文摘We report the zircon Hf-O isotopic data for mafic enclaves from the Taihang Yanshanian intermediate to felsic plutons, and use them, along with the petrological, whole-rock chemical and Nd-Sr isotopic data, to reveal the petrogenesis of mafic enclaves. Mafic enclaves show magmatic textures and are finer-grained than host rocks. In places they are highly elongated due to stretching within the partially crystallized, convective felsic magma, but show no solid-state deformation. These data suggest that mafic enclaves and host rocks were co-existing, but compositionally distinct magmas. The mafic enclaves contain abundant hydrous minerals such as hornblende and biotite, with pyroxene relict being surrounded by hornblende reaction rim. Plagioclase xenocrysts from mafic enclaves show a complicated compositional and textural disequilibrium. Comparison between mafic enclaves and the immediate host rocks suggests that the two rock units are compositionally correlated. The εNd values of mafic enclaves are generally higher than the host rocks, though the Sr isotopic ratios of the two rock units are indistinguishable. Zircons from a single enclave sample show a significant variation in Hf isotopic compositions, with εHf = -10―-22, suggesting an origin through magma mixing between mafic and felsic magmas. This is supported by the relatively large variation of zircon O isotopic ratios (δ 18O = 5.5‰- 7.8‰) of the mafic enclaves. The petrogenesis of mafic enclaves could be described as below. Evolved basaltic magma (via fractionation of olivine and pyroxene) first mixed with crustally derived granitic melts in depths, forming a hybrid magma; then the hybrid magma broke up into discrete lumps upon entering the above felsic magma. | 14 | Seismic wave input method for three-dimensional soil-structure dynamic interaction analysis based on the substructure of artificial boundaries显示文摘The method of inputting the seismic wave determines the accuracy of the simulation of soil-structure dynamic interaction. The wave method is a commonly used approach for seismic wave input, which converts the incident wave into equivalent loads on the cutoff boundaries. The wave method has high precision, but the implementation is complicated, especially for three-dimensional models. By deducing another form of equivalent input seismic loads in the fi nite element model, a new seismic wave input method is proposed. In the new method, by imposing the displacements of the free wave fi eld on the nodes of the substructure composed of elements that contain artifi cial boundaries, the equivalent input seismic loads are obtained through dynamic analysis of the substructure. Subsequently, the equivalent input seismic loads are imposed on the artifi cial boundary nodes to complete the seismic wave input and perform seismic analysis of the soil-structure dynamic interaction model. Compared with the wave method, the new method is simplifi ed by avoiding the complex processes of calculating the equivalent input seismic loads. | 15 | Differentiation of embryonic stem cells into corneal epithelium显示文摘Our project was to determine whether embryonic stem (ES) cells could be induced to differentiate into corneal epithelia by superficial corneoscleral limbal stroma. To achieve this goal, ES-GFP cell line D3 was pre-induced by retinoic acid (RA). The pre-induced cells were seeded on deepithelialized superficial corneoscleral slices (SCSS) to form a monolayer, and di-vided into three groups. Group 1 was cultured and passaged in vitro for direct detection. Group 2 was exposed to air-liquid interfaces for 10 days and implanted into the subcutaneous layer of nude mice for 2 weeks for further induction in vivo. Group 3 was cultured in vitro without any in-ducing factors for control. There were no teratomas found in nude mice which were implanted with differentiated ES cells after two weeks. The differentiated cells showed an appearance of epithelia both in vitro and in vivo. Expression of CK3, P63 and PCNA was detected by immuno-histochemical staining in the differentiated cells in group 1 and 2. Microvillis and zonula oc-cludens were observed on the surface of the differentiated cells under an electron microscope. In the control group, ES cells differentiated freely without any inducing factors. Most cells were shed and formed a neuronal dendrite-like structure, and a minority of cells appeared polymorphic. These results demonstrate that ES cells can differentiate into corneal epithelia on the surface of SCSS under the controlled condition. | 16 | Tillage Pedogenesis of Purple Soils in Southwestern China显示文摘Land cultivation and tillage process, and their consequent impacts on soil erosion, have been criticized as the main cause of degradation of land or soil quality. However, purple soils, classified as Regosols in FAO Taxonomy or Entisols in USDA Taxonomy, are formed from purple rocks of the Trias-Cretaceous system, have been developed or at least accelerated the development due to continual tillage operation, especially digging and ridging. The present study took micromorphological investigation on the sedimentary rocks and the soils under different operations of tillage. Results show that the purple rock of Feixiangguan Formation of the Trias system (T1f) is the easiest to physical weathering and the most fertile soil material enriched in nutrients, and it has been, therefore, mostly cultivated and intensively tilled around the year. It has the fastest soil formation rate. Soil formation rate in the cropland with conventional tillage is higher than that in the forestland and the grassland. | 18 | Climate and soil moisture environment during develop-ment of the fifth palaeosol in Guanzhong Plain显示文摘Based on weathering characteristics of the fifth palaeosol layer (S5) of four sections in Guanzhong Plain, the thickness of the weathered profile of the paleosol is determined to be greater than the ordi- nary soil, a weathered and leached loess layer thicker than 2 m. The distribution depth of the red argil- lans, the weathered and leached loess layer, Fe2O3, CaCO3 and Sr content under the S5 all indicate that the precipitation in Guanzhong Plain was over 900 mm at that time. The distribution depth of gravity water zone reached 4.2 m at least, and the soil moisture content was generally more than 20% within the range of 4.2 m. At that time there was sufficient soil moisture and no dried earth layer developed in Guanzhong Plain, suitable for the forest to develop. When this soil developed, the mean annual pre- cipitation was more than the annual soil moisture evaporation. The value of soil moisture balance was positive and the atmospheric precipitation could supply the underground water normally. Soil water was weak acidic in the middle and late stages when S5 developed in Guanzhong Plain. It was a kind of subtropical climate and even more humid and warmer than the northern edge of the subtropical climate zone in Guanzhong Plain when the S5 developed. At that time the subtropical climate was prevailing over the northern side and southern side of Qingling Mountains, showing the Mountains no longer to be the boundary between the subtropical zone and the temperate zone in China. The patients were randomized to undergo Toric-IOL or PCRIs in the steep axis with spherical IOL implantation..Log MAR uncorrected visual acuity(Log MAR UCVA), Log MAR best corrected vi sual acuity.(Log MAR BCVA),.error of vector(|EV|), surgery induced refraction correction.(|SIRC |),.and correction rates(CR) were measured 1 month and 6 months postoperatively.Results: At 6 months postoperatively, all 54 eyes had LogMAR BCVA≤0.2. Patients who underwent PCRIs and ToricIOL with Log MAR BCVA≤0.1 showed no significant differences in group A(P=1.00) or in group B(P=0.59). Group A showed no significant differences in Log MAR UCVA(P =0.70), |EV|(P=0.13), |SIRC|(P=0.71), and CR(P=0.56)in patients underwent PCRIs and Toric-IOL. However, group B showed significant differences in Log MAR UCVA(P <0.01), |EV|(P<0.01)), |SIRC|(P<0.01), and CR(P<0.01).The Log MAR UCVA and |EV | between 1 and 6 months showed no significant differences in patients in group A. | 20 | The new basic theory on Quaternary environmental research显示文摘On the basis of extensive survey to the Quaternary paleosols, soils and weathering layers in the vast northern China and the Loess Plateau, we found some unusually special phenomena of chemical components such as unsuccessive illuvium, twin illuviums, unusually thick illuvium and multi-illuviums etc. According to the analysis on the content of CaCO 3 and the data of penetrating experiment, a new theory of illuvial depth or removal depth of CaCO 3 in weathering and leaching belt was constructed, which indicates that the time of CaCO 3 removing to the illuvial depth is very short, and the effect of time factor on illuvial depth can be ignored. The theory can be taken as a credible foundation for studying many geological and geographical problems in weathering and leaching belt. When the illuvial depth of CaCO 3 is bigger than the thickness of developing belt of soil or paleosol, it can be determined that the paleosol has turned into weathering crust. When the illuvial depth of CaCO 3 is bigger than the thickness of paleosol, paleosol is leaching moderately acid soil. When two, three layers or unusually thick CaCO 3 illuviums exist in the same weathering section or at the bottom of the same paleosol, there were two or more periods forming paleosol and corresponding climatic stages at that time.
