| 2 | Prevalence and evolution of drug resistance HIV-1 variants in Henan, China显示文摘To understand the prevalence and evolution of drug resistant HIV strains in Henan China after the implementation of free antiretroviral therapy for AIDS patients. 45 drug nave AIDS patients, 118 AIDS patients who received three months antiretroviral therapy and 124 AIDS patients who received six months antiretroviral treatment were recruited in the southern part of Henan province. Information on general condition, antiretroviral medicines, adherence and clinical syndromes were collected by face to face interview. Meanwhile, 14ml EDTA anticoagulant blood was drawn. CD4/CD8 T cell count, viral load and genotypic drug resistance were tested. The rates of clinical improvement were 55.1% and 50.8% respectively three months and six months after antiretroviral therapy. The mean CD4 cell count after antiretroviral therapy was significantly higher than in drug nave patients. The prevalence rate of drug resistant HIV strains were 13. 9%, 45.4% and 62.7% in drug nave patients, three month treatment patients and six month treatment patients, respectively. The number of resistance mutation codons and the frequency of mutations increased significantly with continued antiretroviral therapy. The mutation sites were primarily at the 103, 106 and 215 codons in the three-month treatment group and they increased to 15 codon mutations in the six-month treatment group. From this result, the evolution of drug resistant strains was inferred to begin with the high level NNRTI resistant strain, and then develop low level resistant strains to NRTIs. The HIV strains with high level resistance to NVP and low level resistance to AZT and DDI were highly prevalent because of the AZT+DDI+NVP combination therapy. These HIV strains were also cross resistant to DLV, EFV, DDC and D4T. Poor adherence to therapy was believed to be the main reason for the emergence and prevalence of drug resistant HIV strains. The prevalence of drug resistant HIV strains was increased with the continu- ation of antiretroviral therapy in the southern part of Henan province. In vivo experiments, exogenous gene was transferred into tumor vascular endothelial cells and tumor cells of subcutaneously transplanted human colon cancer LOVO, human malignant melanoma A375 and human hepatoma graft in nude mice. This system could also target gene to intrahepatically transplanted human hepatoma injected via portal vein in nude mice. | 11 | Atmospheric particulate pollution of Lanzhou using magnetic measurements显示文摘To differentiate between natural and anthropogenic particulate sources in the atmosphere in Lanzhou City, samples were collected in different sites. The dust flux was calculated and magnetic measurements were conducted. Results show a distinct pattern of variation of dust flux within a year and it agrees with the shifts of atmospheric circulation regime. The magnetic parameters indicate that natural sources are the major components of atmospheric particulate during late spring and early summer, while anthropogenic sources contribute much more during winter months. | 12 | Effects of NO_x and VOCs from Five Emission Sources on Summer Surface O_3 over the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei Region显示文摘The impacts of emissions from industry, power plant, transportation, residential, and biogenic sources on daily maximum surface ozone(O3DM) over the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei(BTH) region in North China in the summer of 2007 were examined in a modeling study. The modeling system consisted of the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF) model and the photochemical dispersion model, CAMx. The factor separation technique(FST) was used to quantify the effect of individual emission source types and the synergistic interactions among two or more types. Additionally, the effectiveness of emission reduction scenarios was explored. The industry, power plant, and transportation emission source types were found to be the most important in terms of their individual effects on O3DM. The key contributor to high surface O3was power plant emissions, with a peak individual effect of 40 ppbv in the southwestern BTH area. The individual effect from the biogenic emission category was quite low. The synergistic effects from the combinations of each pair of anthropogenic emission types suppressed O3formation, while the synergistic effects for combinations of three were favorable for O3formation when the industrial and power plant emission source types coexisted. The quadruple synergistic effects were positive only with the combination of power plant, transportation, residential, and biogenic sources, while the quintuple synergistic effect showed only minor impacts on O3DMconcentrations. A 30% reduction in industrial and transportation sources produced the most effective impacts on O3concentrations, with a maximum decrease of 20 ppbv. | 13 | Combination of ribavirin and reduning protects mice against severe pneumonia induced by H1N1 influenza a virus显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of ribavirin administration combined with Reduning in a mouse model of influenza A(H1N1)-induced severe pneumonia.METHODS:Influenza A/Beijing/501/2009(H1N1)-infected C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into four experimental groups treated with either a mock injection of phosphate-buffered saline(PBS),ribavirin(66.6 mg/kg daily)or Reduning(86.6 mg/kg daily),or a combination of both,for 7 days.Mice were monitored for clinical signs and survival,and body weight was measured daily for 14 days.Virus titer,lung wet-to-dry ratios,pathology and cytokines including interleukin(IL)-6,IL-10,and interferon(IFN)-γwere assayed on different days.RESULTS:In the untreated group injected with phosphate buffer saline,all the mice died of the infection.The survival rate of mice treated with Reduning was only 10%,whereas 100%of the ribavirin-and the combination-treated mice survived.Low lung viral loads indicated that ribavirin significantly inhibited virus replication,whereas Reduning did not.Lung wet-to-dry ratios demonstrated that both ribavirin and Reduning,administered together or separately,reduced acute lung edema compared with results in the untreated group.Pathology analyses also showed that treatment with a combination of both drugs relieved pathological lesions,whereas the single drug treatment did not.Levels of IL-6,IL-10 and IFN-γin mice treated with ribavirin or the combination of both ribavirin and Reduning were all significantly lower than in the untreated group,especially in the combination-treated group.In addition,Reduning administration significantly decreased both IL-6 and IL-10production but had no effect on IFN-γ.CONCLUSION:Due to the synergistic effect of antiviral and antiinflammation,the combination of ribavirin and Reduning could be an effective treatment for severe H1N1 which was considered to be significant to delayed antiviral and drug resistant. | Ma Yuexia Zhang Wei Zhao Zhongpeng Li Min Liu Jian Wang Yuguang | 2016 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2016,36,2: | 13 |

| 16 | Major Modes of Short-Term Climate Variability in the Newly Developed NUIST Earth System Model(NESM)显示文摘A coupled earth system model(ESM) has been developed at the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology(NUIST) by using version 5.3 of the European Centre Hamburg Model(ECHAM), version 3.4 of the Nucleus for European Modelling of the Ocean(NEMO), and version 4.1 of the Los Alamos sea ice model(CICE). The model is referred to as NUIST ESM1(NESM1). Comprehensive and quantitative metrics are used to assess the model's major modes of climate variability most relevant to subseasonal-to-interannual climate prediction. The model's assessment is placed in a multi-model framework. The model yields a realistic annual mean and annual cycle of equatorial SST, and a reasonably realistic precipitation climatology, but has difficulty in capturing the spring–fall asymmetry and monsoon precipitation domains. The ENSO mode is reproduced well with respect to its spatial structure, power spectrum, phase locking to the annual cycle, and spatial structures of the central Pacific(CP)-ENSO and eastern Pacific(EP)-ENSO; however, the equatorial SST variability,biennial component of ENSO, and the amplitude of CP-ENSO are overestimated. The model captures realistic intraseasonal variability patterns, the vertical-zonal structures of the first two leading predictable modes of Madden–Julian Oscillation(MJO), and its eastward propagation; but the simulated MJO speed is significantly slower than observed. | 17 | Risk analysis for the highly pathogenic avian influenza in China's Mainland using meta-modeling显示文摘A logistic model was employed to correlate the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) with related environmental factors and the migration of birds. Based on MODIS data of the normalized difference vegetation index, environmental factors were considered in generating a probability map with the aid of logistic regression. A Bayesian maximum entropy model was employed to explore the spatial and temporal correlations of HPAI incidence. The results show that proximity to water bodies and national highways was statistically relevant to the occurrence of HPAI. Migratory birds, mainly waterfowl, were important infection sources in HPAI transmission. In addition, the HPAI outbreaks had high spatiotemporal autocorrelation. This epidemic spatial range fluctuated 45 km owing to different distribution patterns of cities and water bodies. Furthermore, two outbreaks were likely to occur with a period of 22 d. | 18 | Inheritance of Perpetual Blooming in Rosa chinensis ‘Old Blush'显示文摘Perpetual blooming is one of the most important biological and economical traits in modern rose, while the genetic basis underlining the control of this trait is poorly investigated. With an aim in dissecting the genetic determinism of perpetual blooming, we developed six rose populations(OB, W, F1, F2, BC1 OB and BC1W) derived from a WOB population [interspecific diploid hybridization between Rosa chinensis ‘Old Blush'(OB) and R. wichuriana ‘Basye's Thornless'(W)]. Perpetual blooming is absent both in a F1 population with 296 individuals and a BC1 W population(W as the backcross parent) with 150 individuals. However, the perpetual blooming trait showed a typical 3︰1 segregation in a backcross population BC1 OB with OB as the backcross parent. In this population with 300 individuals, 83 plants had the perpetual blooming phenotype while the other 217 featured non-perpetual blooming, indicating that the perpetual blooming trait is very likely controlled by two recessive genes in R. chinensis(rpb1 and rpb2).
