| 3 | Spatiotemporal vegetation cover variations in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau under global climate change显示文摘Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) analysis and the related Principal Components (PC) analysis are used to extract valuable vegetation cover derived information from the National Oceanic and Atmos- pheric Administration (NOAA-AVHRR)'s Leaf Area Index (LAI) satellite images. Results suggest that from 1982 to 2000 global climate change has contributed to an increase in vegetation cover in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The correlation between rainfall and LAI EOF PC1 and PC2 indicates that rainfall is the major climatic factor influencing interannual variations of average vegetation cover throughout the entire Plateau. However, annual mean vegetation cover trends in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau are mainly out of phase with air temperature increasing, which is primarily responsible for nonsynchro- nous changes of vegetation cover. In the southern ridge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, recent warming trends contribute to humid weather and favorable conditions for vegetation growth. | 7 | Factors predicting survival in patients with proximal gastric carcinoma involving the esophagus显示文摘AIM:To investigate the clinicopathologic features which predict surgical overall survival in patients with proximal gastric carcinoma involving the esophagus (PGCE).METHODS:Electronic pathology database established in the Department of Pathology of the Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital was searched for consecutive resection cases of proximal gastric carcinoma over the period from May 2004 through July 2009.Each retrieved pathology report was reviewed and the cases with tumors crossing the gastroesophageal junction line were selected as PGCE.Each tumor was re-staged,following the guidelines on esophageal adenocarcinoma,according to the 7th edition of the American Joint Commission on Cancer Staging Manual.All histology slides were studied along with the pathology report for a retrospective analysis of 13 clinicopathologic features,i.e.,age,gender,Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori ) infection,surgical modality,Siewert type,tumor Bormann's type,size,differentiation,histology type,surgical margin,lymphovascular and perineural invasion,and pathologic stage in relation to survival after surgical resection.Prognostic factors for overall survival were assessed with uniand multi-variate analyses.RESULTS:Patients' mean age was 65 years (range:47-90 years).The male:female ratio was 3.3.The 1-,3and 5-year overall survival rates were 87%,61% and 32%,respectively.By univariate analysis,age,male gender,H.pylori ,tumor Bormann's type,size,histology type,surgical modality,positive surgical margin,lymphovascular invasion,and pT stage were not predictive for overall survival;in contrast,perineural invasion (P = 0.003),poor differentiation (P = 0.0003),> 15 total lymph nodes retrieved (P = 0.008),positive lymph nodes (P = 0.001),and distant metastasis (P = 0.005) predicted poor post-operative overall survival.Celiac axis nodal metastasis was associated with significantly worse overall survival (P = 0.007).By multivariate analysis,≥ 16 positive nodes (P = 0.018),lymph node ratio > 0.2 (P = 0.003),and overall pathologic stage (P = 0.002) were independent predictors for poor overall survival after resection.CONCLUSION:Patients with PGCE showed worse overall survival in elderly,high nodal burden and advanced pathologic stage.This cancer may be more accurately staged as gastric,than esophageal,cancer. | Yi-Fen Zhang Jiong Shi Hui-Ping Yu An-Ning Feng Xiang-Shan Fan Gregory Y Lauwers Hiroshi Mashimo Jason S Gold Gang Chen Qin Huang | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012，18，27： | 12 |

| 14 | High performance columnar-like Fe2O3@carbon composite anode via yolk@shell structural design显示文摘Conversion-type reaction anode materials with high specific capacity are attractive candidates to improve lithium ion batteries(LIBs), yet the rapid capacity fading and poor rate capability caused by drastic volume change and low electronic conductivity greatly hinder their practical applications. To circumvent these issues, the successful design of yolk@shell Fe2 O3@C hybrid composed of a columnar-like Fe2O3 core within a hollow cavity completely surrounded by a thin, self-supported carbon(C) shell is presented as an anode for high-performance LIBs. This yolk@shell structure allows each Fe2O3 core to swell upon lithiation without deforming the carbon shell. This preserves the structural and electrical integrity against pulverization, as revealed by in situ transmission electron microscopy(TEM) measurement. Benefiting from these structural advantages, the resulting electrode exhibits a high reversible capacity(1013 m Ah g-1 after80 cycles at 0.2 A g-1), outstanding rate capability(710 m Ah g-1 at 8 A g-1) and superior cycling stability(800 m Ah g-1 after 300 cycles at 4 A g-1). | 17 | Longitudinal Alterations of Local Spontaneous Brain Activity in Parkinson's Disease显示文摘We used resting-state fMRI to evaluate longitudinal alterations in local spontaneous brain activity in Parkinson's disease(PD) over a 2-year period. Data were acquired from 23 PD patients at baseline and follow-up,and 27 age-and sex-matched normal controls. Regional homogeneity(ReHo) and voxel-based-morphometry(VBM) were used to identify differences in local spontaneous brain activity and grey matter volume. With disease progression, we observed a progressive decrease in ReHo in the sensorimotor cortex, default-mode network, and left cerebellum, but increased ReHo in the supplementary motor area, bilateral temporal gyrus, and hippocampus.Moreover, there was a significant positive correlation between the rates of ReHo change in the left cerebellum and the rates of change in the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale-III scores. VBM revealed no significant differences in the grey matter volume among the three sets of acquisitions.
