| 1 | Review of sustainability, pretreatment, and engineering considerations of asphalt modifiers from the industrial solid wastes显示文摘The escalating mass of solid waste at an overwhelming sum requires a global attention to strive for efficient waste management and to outsource the ecological treatments. The asphalt pavement industry that consumes a vast scale of natural resources while contributing to thermal and greenhouse emissions is viewed as a high potential alternative for the application of solid waste as asphalt modifier and substantial waste reduction. In efforts to urge for cleaner and greener asphalt production, a growing trend towards usage of solid waste as a renewable material is paving a sustainable future for the asphalt pavement industry. The economic options of incorporating solid waste into the asphaltic mixture coupled with proven effective performances are a green and cost-effective alternative to mitigate various pavement distresses. Various options either as coarse or fine aggregates and as fillers in powder, ash, or fibre form are to stimulate further research interest to incorporate a diversified range of solid waste into the asphalt binder and asphalt mixture. Prior to incorporating solid waste into the asphaltic mixture through the selected options, prerequisite tests in addressing engineering limitations due to the unknown properties of solid waste are reviewed. The concerns on environmental impact are given heavy metals leaching possibilities into water sources are addressed by Toxicity Characterization Leaching Procedure test, to leverage further the systematic reuse of solid waste in steering towards the cleaner production of the asphalt mixture. The microcosmic traits of solid waste namely surface morphology, mineralogical composition and chemical composition are summarized based on the usage of Scanning Electron Microscope, X-Ray Diffraction, and X-Ray Fluorescence, respectively. | 2 | Effects of Salinity and Potassium Application on Antioxidant Enzyme Activities and Physiological Parameters in Pearl Millet显示文摘A plot culture experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at University of Zabol,Iran,to study the effects of different salinity levels and potassium supply on pearl millet.The experiment was laid out in a completely randomized factorial design with three replicates.Potassium sulfate was used as the potassium source.The rates of potassium treatments were 0,100,and 200 kg ha-1.Pearl millet was subjected to different salinity levels(0,4,8,and 12 ds m-1) through addition of NaCl to irrigation water.Results showed that the increase in the salt concentration from control to 12 ds m-1 decreased grain yield(38.7%) of millet plants.In this study,we found a negative relationship between potassium and proline accumulation at vegetative(r2=-0.75**) and reproductive stage(r2=-0.66**) in millet plants.Salt stress remarkably elevated the activities of CAT and GPX antioxidant enzymes at vegetative and reproductive stages.Furthermore,potassium application had significant effect on grain yield and increased it about 10.6% at the highest salinity treatment(12 ds m-1).Though,potassium treatment increased antioxidant activity in millet plants,it had no significant effect on proline content in leaves.Salinity treatment decreased potassium uptake but application potassium increased potassium content in leaves at two stages. | Mostafa Heidari Parisa Jamshidi | 2011 | Agricultural Sciences in China2011,10,2: | 6 |
| 3 | 焊接热输入和后续热处理对AA7075-AA5086异种搅拌摩擦焊接头显微组织和力学性能的影响(英文)显示文摘研究焊接热输入和后续热处理对时效硬化AA7075-T6合金和应变硬化AA5086-H32合金异种搅拌摩擦焊接接头显微组织和力学性能的影响。采用X射线残余应力分析、拉伸测试、光学金相分析以及透射电子显微分析研究工艺参数对焊接接头的影响。结果表明,与其他焊接接头相比,无散热片焊接的接头搅拌区更均匀。在所研究的自然时效时间范围内,焊接接头在快速冷却过程中高的固溶度将产生更大的驱动力,这也导致在自然时效过程中,AA7075的硬度增加。自然时效使AA7075搅拌区和热力影响区的残余应力减小10~25 MPa。该影响在无散热片焊接的接头中明显减小。此外,自然时效对接头强度无明显影响。 | Jamshidi Aval HAMED | 2017 | Transactions of Nonferrous Metals Society of China2017,27,8: | 6 |
| 4 | Microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of friction stir-welded C71000 copper–nickel alloy and 304 austenitic stainless steel显示文摘Dissimilar joints comprised of copper–nickel and steel alloys are a challenge for manufacturers in modern industries, as these metals are not thermomechanically or chemically well matched. The present study investigated the effects of tool rotational speed and linear speed on the microstructure and mechanical properties of friction stir-welded C71000 copper–nickel and 340 stainless steel alloys using a tungsten carbide tool with a cylindrical pin. The results indicated that a rotational-to-linear speed ratio of 12.5 r/mm did not cause any macro defects, whereas some tunneling defects and longitudinal cracks were found at other ratios that were lower and higher. Furthermore, chromium carbide was formed on the grain boundaries of the 304 stainless steel near the shoulder zone and inside the joint zone, directing carbon and chromium penetration toward the grain boundaries. | 5 | Silicon carbide resonant tuning fork for microsensing applications in high-temperature and high G-shock environments显示文摘We present the fabrication and testing of a silicon carbide(SiC)balanced mass double-ended tuning fork that survives harsh environments without compromising the device strain sensitivity and resolution bandwidth.The device features a material stack that survives corrosive environments and enables high-temperature operation.To perform high-temperature testing,a specialized setup was constructed that allows the tuning fork to be characterized using traditional silicon electronics.The tuning fork has been operated at 600 ℃ in the presence of dry steam for short durations.This tuning fork has also been tested to 64 000 G using a hard-launch,soft-catch shock implemented with a light gas gun.However,the device still has a strain sensitivity of 66 Hz/με and strain resolution of 0.045 με in a 10 kHz bandwidth.As such,this balanced-mass double-ended tuning fork can be used to create a variety of different sensors including strain gauges,accelerometers,gyroscopes,and pressure transducers.Given the adaptable fabrication process flow,this device could be useful to micro-electro-mechanical systems(MEMS) designers creating sensors for a variety of different applications. | David R Myers Kan Bun Cheng Babak Jamshidi Robert G Azevedo Debbie G Senesky Li Chen Mehran Mehregany Muthu B J Wijesundara Albert P Pisano | 2012 | Engineering Sciences2012,10,5: | 6 |

| 7 | Mineralogical Evidence for Regional Metamorphism Overprinted by Contact Metamorphism显示文摘The Soursat metamorphic complex(SMC) in northwestern Iran is part of the Sanandaj-Sirjan metamorphic belt.The complex is composed of different metamorphic and plutonic rocks,but is dominated by metapelites composed of garnet,staurolite,kyanite,fibrolite,cordierite,and andalusite.Porphyroblasts in schists have the same fabric,and three stages of schistosity are present.The internal schistosity(Sn) inclusion trails are also offset by conjugate sets of extensional schistosity(Sn+1) and a second(Sn+2) that crenulates(Sn+1).Polyphase metamorphisms are present in the complex.Garnet,staurolite,kyanite,and fibrolite assemblage preserves conditions during the M1 metamorphic event.This assemblage yields a P-t estimate of 645±11°C and 6.5±0.5 kbar.Other samples of the central part of SMC contain cordierite and andalusite(M2) overgrowth that yields a P-t estimate of 532±33°C and 2.1±1.1 kbar. | Mahboobeh JAMSHIDI BADR Fariborz MASOUDI Alan S.COLLINS Ali SORBI | 2012 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2012,86,1: | 3 |

| 11 | Site response of heterogeneous natural deposits to harmonic excitation applied to more than 100 case histories显示文摘Variation of shear-wave propagation velocity(SWV) with depth was studied by analyzing more than one hundred actual SWV profiles. Linear, power, and hyperbolic variation schemes were investigated to find the most representative form for naturally occurred alluvial deposits. It was found that hyperbolic(asymptotic) variation dominates the majority of cases and it can be reliably implemented in analytical or analytical-numerical procedures. Site response analyses for a one-layer heterogeneous stratum were conducted to find an equivalent homogeneous alternative which simplifies the analysis procedure but does not compromise the accuracy of the resonance and amplification responses. Harmonic average, arithmetic average and mid-value equivalents are chosen from the literature for investigation. Furthermore, full and partial depth averaging schemes were evaluated and compared in order to verify the validity of current practices which rely upon averaging shallow depths, viz., the first 30 m of the strata.
