| 1 | Synthesis of novel adsorbent by intercalation of biopolymer in LDH for the removal of arsenic from synthetic and natural water显示文摘This study focuses on the synthesis of nanocomposites named CCA and CZA that were prepared by the incorporation of cellulose(CL)in the Ca/Al and Zn/Al layered double hydroxide(LDH),respectively.These materials were then used for the uptake of As(Ⅲ)and As(V)from aqueous medium.Characterization of both nanocomposites(CCA and CZA)was done using FTIR and Raman analysis to identify the functional groups,N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms to determine the specific surface area and pore geometry and XPS analysis to obtain the surface atomic composition.Some other characters were investigated using simultaneous TGA and DTA and elemental chemical analysis(CHNS/O).The crystallinity of the prepared nanocomposites was displayed by XRD patterns.Furthermore,the sheet-like structure of the LDHs and the irregularity of surface morphology with porous structure were observed by TEM and SEM microphotographs.Optimization of maximum adsorption capacity was adjusted using different parameters including pH,contact time and adsorbent dosage.The pseudo-second-order model was in good fitting with kinetics results.The adsorption isotherm results showed that CZA exhibits better adsorption capacity for As(Ⅲ)than CCA and the Langmuir isotherm model described the data well for both nanocomposites.Thermodynamic studies illustrated the endothermic nature of CCA and exothermic nature on CZA,as well as the fact that the adsorption process is spontaneous.A real water sample collected from well located in Gabes(Tunisia),has also been treated.The obtained experimental results were confirmed that these sorbents are efficient for the treatment of hazardous toxic species such as. | Hanen Bessaies Sidra Iftekhar Bhairavi Doshi Jamel Kheriji Mohamed Chaker Ncibi Varsha Srivastava Mika Sillanpaa Bechir Hamrouni | 2020 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,5: | 10 |
| 2 | Liver insulin-like growth factor 2 methylation in hepatitis C virus cirrhosis and further occurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM: To assess the predictive value of the insulinlike growth factor 2 (Igf2) methylation profile for the occurrence of Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) in hepatitis C (HCV) cirrhosis. METHODS: Patients with: (1) biopsy-proven compensated HCV cirrhosis; (2) available baseline frozen liver sample; (3) absence of detectable HCC; (4) regular screening for HCC; (5) informed consent for genetic analysis were studied. After DNA extraction from liver samples and bisulfite treatment, unbiased PCR and DHPLC analysis were performed for methylation analysis at the Igf2 locus. The predictive value of the Igf2 methylation profile for HCC wasassessed by Kaplan-Meier and Cox methods. RESULTS: Among 94 included patients, 20 developed an HCC during follow-up (6.9 ± 3.2 years). The methylation profile was hypomethylated, intermediate and hypermethylated in 13, 64 and 17 cases, respectively. In univariate analysis, two baseline parameters were associated with the occurrence of HCC: age (P = 0.01) and prothrombin (P = 0.04). The test of linear tendency between the three ordered levels of Igf2 methylation and probability of HCC occurrence was significant (Log Rank, P = 0.043; Breslow, P = 0.037; Tarone-Ware, P = 0.039). | 3 | Acute effects of chlorpyryphos-ethyl and secondary treated effluents on acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase activities in Carcinus maenas显示文摘The acute effects of commercial formulation of chlorpyrifos-ethyl (Dursban ) and the secondary treated industrial/urban effluent (STIUE) exposure on acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) activities in hepatopancreas and gills of Mediterranean crab Carcinus maenas were investigated. After 2 d of exposure to chlorpyriphos-ethyl, the AChE activity was inhibited in both organs at concentrations of 3.12 and 7.82 μg/L, whereas the BuChE was inhibited only at higher concentration 7.82 μg/L of commercial preparation Dursban . The exposure of crabs to Dursban (3.12 μg/L) showed a significant decrement of AChE activity at 24 and 48 h, whereas the BuChE was inhibited only after 24 h and no inhibition for both enzymes was observed after 72 h. Moreover, a significant repression of AChE activity was observed in both organs of C. maenas exposed to 5% of STIUE. | 5 | Characterization and physicochemical aspects of novel cellulose-based layered double hydroxide nanocomposite for removal of antimony and fluoride from aqueous solution显示文摘A series of novel adsorbents composed of cellulose(CL)with Ca/Al layered double hydroxide(CC_(x)A;where x represent the Ca/Al molar ratio)were prepared for the adsorption of antimony(Sb(V))and fluoride(F^(-))ions from aqueous solutions.The CC_(x)A was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),Brunauer–Emmett–Teller(BET),elemental analysis(CHNS/O),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA-DTA),zeta potential,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive Xray spectroscopy(SEM-EDX)analysis.The effects of varying parameters such as dose,pH,contact time,temperature and initial concentration on the adsorption process were investigated.According to the obtained results,the adsorption processes were described by a pseudo-second-order kinetic model.Langmuir adsorption isotherm model provided the best fit for the experimental data and was used to describe isotherm constants.The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 77.2 and 63.1 mg/g for Sb(V)and F^(-),respectively by CC_(3)A(experimental conditions:pH 5.5,time 60 min,dose 15 mg/10 mL,temperature 298 K).The CC_(3)A nanocomposite was able to reduce the Sb(V)and F^(-)ions concentration in synthetic solution to lower than 6μg/L and 1.5 mg/L,respectively,which are maximum contaminant levels of these elements in drinking water according to WHO guidelines. | Hanen Bessaies Sidra Iftekhar Muhammad Bilal Asif Jamel Kheriji Chaker Necibi Mika Sillanpää Bechir Hamrouni | 2021 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,4: | 4 |

| 7 | Detection and management of oligometastatic disease in oesophageal cancer and identification of prognostic factors: A systematic review显示文摘BACKGROUND Oesophageal cancer is the eighth most common cancer worldwide.The prognosis of oesophageal cancer patients still remains poor.The 5-year survival rate rarely exceeds 5%in case of metastatic disease.Some patients may however present with oligometastasis which can be treated with loco-regional therapy.AIM To assess the current practice regarding the management of patients with oligometastatic oesophageal cancer and identify prognostic factors affecting survival following treatment for oligometastasis.METHODS A systematic search of the literature was performed in Cochrance Library,MEDLINE and EMBASE databases from September 1950 to January 2019.Relevant electronic databases were searched for studies assessing the clinical outcome of oligometastasis.RESULTS A total of 14 publications were included,of which 12 studies assessing metachronous oligometastasis and 2 on synchronous oligometastasis.All included articles evaluated the specific outcomes of metastasis,management modality and survival outcomes.The majority of the patients presented with oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma.The median disease free interval(time to recurrence)in patients was 19.6 mo and the overall survival reached 30.8 months.Unfavourable prognostic factors were assessed in eight studies and included time to recurrence<12 mo,large diameter pulmonary lesions(>20 mm),disease free interval(DFI)<12 mo,extra-pulmonary metastasis,primary tumour pathological stage III/IV.CONCLUSION Oligometastatic oesophageal cancer in selected patients is amenable to locoregional treatment,and the overall survival of this patient cohort may be improved with patient and tumour-specific treatments. | Sara Jamel Karina Tukanova Sheraz Markar | 2019 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2019,11,9: | 2 |
| 8 | A simplified two-dimensional boundary element method with arbitrary uniform mean flow显示文摘To reduce computational costs, an improved form of the frequency domain boundary element method(BEM) is proposed for two-dimensional radiation and propagation acoustic problems in a subsonic uniform flow with arbitrary orientation. The boundary integral equation(BIE) representation solves the two-dimensional convected Helmholtz equation(CHE) and its fundamental solution, which must satisfy a new Sommerfeld radiation condition(SRC) in the physical space. In order to facilitate conventional formulations, the variables of the advanced form are expressed only in terms of the acoustic pressure as well as its normal and tangential derivatives, and their multiplication operators are based on the convected Green's kernel and its modified derivative. The proposed approach significantly reduces the CPU times of classical computational codes for modeling acoustic domains with arbitrary mean flow. | 11 | Endogenous fungal endophthalmitis:risk factors,clinical course,and visual outcome in 13 patients显示文摘AIM:To analyze the risk factors,ophthalmological features,treatment modalities and their effect on the visual outcome in patients with endogenous fungal endophthalmitis(EFE).METHODS:Data retrieved from the medical files included age at presentation to the uveitis clinic,gender,ocular symptoms and their duration before presentation,history of fever,eye affected,anatomical diagnosis and laboratory evidence of fungal infection.Medical therapy recorded included systemic antifungal therapy and its duration,use of intravitreal antifungal agents and use of oral/intravitreal steroids.Surgical procedures and the data of ophthalmologic examination at presentation and at last follow-up were also collected.RESULTS:Included were 13 patients(20 eyes,mean age 58 y).Ten patients presented after gastrointestinal or urological interventions and two presented after organ transplantation.In one patient,there was no history of previous intervention.Diagnostic vitrectomy was performed in 16 eyes(80%)and vitreous cultures were positive in 10 of the vitrectomized eyes(62.5%).In only 4 patients(31%),blood cultures were positive.All patients received systemic antifungal therapy.Sixteen eyes(80%)received intravitreal antifungal agent with voriconazole being the most commonly used.Visual acuity(VA)improved from 0.9±0.9 at initial exam to 0.5±0.8 logMAR at last followup(P=0.03).A trend of greater visual improvement was noted in favor of eyes treated with oral steroids(±intravitreal dexamethasone)than eyes that were not treated with steroids.The most common complication was maculopathy.Twelve eyes(60%)showed no ocular complications.CONCLUSION:High index of suspicion in patients with inciting risk factors is essential because of the low yield of blood cultures and the good general condition of patients at presentation.Visual prognosis is improved with the prompt institution of systemic and intravitreal pharmacotherapy and the immediate surgical intervention.Oral±local steroids could be considered in cases of prolonged or marked inflammatory responses in order to hasten control of inflammation and limit ocular complications. | Jamel Corredores Itzhak Hemo Tareq Jaouni Zohar Habot-Wilner Michal Kramer Shiri Shulman Haneen Jabaly-Habib Ala'a Al-Talbishi Michael Halpert Edward Averbukh Jaime Levy Iris Deitch-Harel Radgonde Amer | 2021 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2021,14,1: | 1 |
