2Processing of ingredients and diets and effects on nutritional value for pigs显示文摘A conventional diet based on corn and soybean meal fed to pigs is usually provided in a mash form and in most cases, processing other than grinding and mixing is not used. However, due to the high cost of energy in pig diets,use of high fiber ingredients such as soybean hulls, distillers dried grains with solubles, and wheat middlings has increased. High fiber concentrations in the diet usually results in reduced energy and nutrient digestibility due to the low capacity of pigs to digest fiber, which negatively impacts growth performance and carcass composition of the pigs. Feed processing technologies such as changes in grinding procedures, expansion, extrusion, pelleting, use of enzymes or chemical treatments may, however, be used to solubilize some of the cel ulose and hemicel ulose fractions that form the cel wal of plants in the ingredients, and therefore, increase nutrient availability. This may have a positive effect on energy digestibility, and therefore, also on pig growth performance and carcass composition, but effects of different feed technologies on the nutritional value of feed ingredients and diets fed to pigs are not fully understood. It has however, been demonstrated that reduced particle size of cereal grains usually results in increased digestibility of energy, primarily due to increased digestibility of starch. Extrusion or expansion of ingredients or diets may also increase energy digestibility and it appears that the increase is greater in high fiber diets than in diets with lower concentrations of fiber. Chemical treatments have not consistently improved energy or nutrient digestibility, but a number of different enzymes may be used to increase the digestibility of phosphorus, calcium, or energy. 5Combination of squamous cell carcinoma antigen immunocomplex and alpha-fetoprotein in mid-and long-term prediction of hepatocellular carcinoma among cirrhotic patients显示文摘BACKGROUND The combination of alpha-fetoprotein(AFP)and squamous cell carcinoma antigen immunocomplex(SCCA-IgM)have been proposed for its use in the screening of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Current screening programs for all cirrhotic patients are controversial and a personalized screening is an unmet need in the precision medicine era.AIM To determine the role of the combination of SCCA-IgM and AFP in predicting mid-and long-term appearance of HCC.METHODS Two-hundred and three cirrhotic patients(Child A 74.9%,B 21.2%,C 3.9%)were followed-up prospectively every six months to screen HCC by ultrasound and AFP according to European Association for the Study of the Liver guidelines.The estimation cohort was recruited in Italy(30.5%;62/203)and validation cohort from Spain(69.5%;141/203).Patients underwent to evaluate SCCA-IgM by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(Hepa-IC,Xeptagen,Italy)and AFP levels at baseline.Patients were followed-up for 60 mo,being censored at the time of the appearance of HCC.RESULTS There were 10.8%and 23.1%of HCC development at two-and five-years followup.Patients with HCC showed higher levels of SCCA-IgM than those without it(425.72±568.33 AU/mL vs 195.93±188.40 AU/mL,P=0.009)during the fiveyear follow-up.In multivariate analysis,after adjusting by age,sex,aspartate transaminase and Child-Pugh,the following factors were independently associated with HCC:SCCA-IgM[Hazard ratio(HR)=1.001,95%CI:1.000-1.002;P=0.003],AFP(HR=1.028,95%CI:1.009-1.046;P=0.003)and creatinine(HR=1.56495%CI:1.151-2.124;P=0.004).The log-rank test of the combination resulted in 7.488(P=0.024)in estimation cohort and 11.061(P=0.004)in the validation cohort,and a 100%of correctly classified rate identifying a low-risk group in both cohorts in the two-year follow-up.CONCLUSION We have constructed a predictive model based on the combination of SCCA-IgM and AFP that provides a new HCC screening method,which could be followed by tailored HCC surveillance for individual patients,especially for those cirrhotic patients belonging to the subgroup identified as low-risk of HCC development.Antonio Gil-Gómez Ángela Rojas Chang-Hai Liu Rocio Gallego-Duran Rocio Muñoz-Hernandez Giorgio Fassina Patrizia Pontisso Javier Ampuero Manuel Romero-Gómez 2021World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,48:1

7Food supplementation by an invasive fleshy-fruited shrub sustains body condition of a native frugivorous bird during winter显示文摘Birds tend to adjust their behavior and physiology to changes in food availability in their environment.Season­al fluctuation of food resources may act as an energetic challenge,augmenting hypothalamus-pituitary-adre­nal axis(HPA axis)activity,leading to an increase in corticosterone concentrations and promoting the metab­olism of energy stores.Plant invasions may alter seasonal food fluctuations by providing a food supply during scarce seasons.This could attenuate the energetic challenge,reducing HPA axis activity and the metabolism of reserves.Using a system with seasonal fluctuation in food availability,we tested if fruit supplementation by the invasive fleshy-fruited Pyracantha angustifolia during the season of native fruit scarcity decreases the con­sumption of energy stores through activity attenuation of the HPA axis.We measured changes in body condition and circulating corticosterone(CORT)concentration in Turdus chiguanco occurring at sites both invaded and not invaded by P.angustifolia over 3 time periods that correspond to the periods prior to,during and after high­est fruit production of the plant.Fruit scarcity in the ecosystem appears as an energetic challenge for T.chiguan­co,given that body mass,fat score and residuals of body mass/tarsus length decreased during winter in a site not invaded by the exotic shrub.Conversely,the presence of the invasive plant seemed to attenuate the metab­olism of energetic reserves,as we did not record changes in body condition in birds inhabiting the invaded site.Unexpectedly,plasma CORT concentration did not vary between sites or periods.Further evaluation is required to elucidate how enhanced body condition,resulting from the consumption of a fleshy-fruited invasive plant,af­fects survivorship and reproductive performance in T.chiguanco.Tobias Nicolas ROJAS David Lautaro VERGARA-TABARES Diego Javier VALDEZ Marina Flavia PONZIO Susana Inés PELUC 2019Integrative Zoology2019,14,3:0

9Glutaminolysis-ammonia-urea Cycle Axis,Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Progression and Development of Novel Therapies显示文摘The prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is increasing worldwide,reflecting the current epidemics of obesity,insulin resistance,type 2 diabetes mellitus,and metabolic syndrome.NAFLD is characterized by the accumulation of fat in the liver,and is known to be a cause of cirrhosis.Although many pathways have been proposed,the cause of NAFLD-linked fibrosis progression is still unclear,which posed challenges for the development of new therapies to prevent NASH-related cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.Cirrhosis is associated with activation of hepatic stellate cells(HSC)and accumulation of excess extracellular matrix proteins,and inhibiting the activation of HSCs would be expected to slow the progression of NAFLD-cirrhosis.Multiple molecular signals and pathways such as oxidative stress and glutaminolysis have been reported to promote HSC activation.Both mechanisms are plausible antifibrotic targets in NASH,as the activation of HSCs the proliferation of myofibroblasts depend on those processes.This review summarizes the role of the glutaminolysis-ammonia-urea cycle axis in the context of NAFLD progression,and shows how the axis could be a novel therapeutic target.Ángela Rojas María Rosario García-Lozano Antonio Gil-Gómez Manuel Romero-Gómez Javier Ampuero 2022Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2022,10,2:0
