1Relationship between Temperaments of Medicinal Plants and Their Major Chemical Compounds显示文摘Objective: To determine any relationship between temperaments of medicinal plants referred to traditional Iranian manuscripts and their major chemical compounds. Methods: Plants used in traditional Iranian medicine were categorized based on their major chemical compounds including alkaloids, phenolic compounds, and essential oils. Their temperaments were extracted from traditional herbal pharmacopeias of Iran. The possible relationship between major chemical compounds and temperaments of each group were evaluated. Results: Plants containing phenolic compounds as their major constituents are hot and dry temperaments except those contain tannins with cold and dry temperaments. Plants containing essential oils have hot and dry temperaments except those whose major essential oils with alcoholic structure which have cold and dry temperaments. Alkaloid-containing plants have cold and dry or hot and dry temperaments based on their alkaloidal structures. 2Vegetation composition differentiation and species-environment relationships in the northern part of Isfahan Province, Iran显示文摘A considerable proportion of Iran's territory is covered with arid and semi-arid rangelands and mismanagement and overexploitation of those rangelands have resulted in serious ecological degradation. Thus, the need is pressing to examine the present species composition and the relationships with environmental factors for providing the needed scientific references to species conservation and ecological rehabilitation efforts. The aims of this study were to examine the species composition and to delineate the most important factors influencing the distributions of plant species and groups in the northern rangelands of Isfahan Province(Iran) using two-way indicator species analysis(TWINSPAN), detrended correspondence analysis(DCA), principal component analysis(PCA), and canonical correspondence analysis(CCA). Field investigations were conducted in the growing season of 2014 using stratified random method in 22 homogeneous sampling units. In total, 75 plant species belonging to 52 genera and 19 families were identified. The most important families were Asteraceae and Papilionaceae, the most important genera were Astragalus, Cousinia, and Acanthophyllum, and the most important species were Artemisia aucheri and Artemisia sieberi. Plant species were classified into 10 groups using TWINSPAN. DCA was used to estimate the magnitude of changes in species composition along the first two ordination axes to provide gradient length estimations for PCA and CCA ordinations. The first three PCA axes and the first three CCA axes demonstrated similar cumulative percentage of variance, indicating that the environmental factors(selected by PCA) used in CCA ordination were acceptable for explaining the species composition and the distributions. CCA ordination showed that the first axis was closely related to elevation, slope, surface bare soil cover, surface litter cover, gravel proportion, organic matter, total nitrogen, Ca CO3 content, and grazing intensity and that the second axis was closely related to sand proportion, silt proportion, clay proportion, and saturation percentage. 3A new combined framework for sustainable development using the DPSIR approach and numerical modeling显示文摘Relying on the conceptual DPSIR framework and MODFLOW analysis,this study used a mixed approach to produce groundwater resource management solutions for the Najafabad area in central Iran.According to DPSIR results,agricultural activities put the highest pressure on groundwater resources in this region.The results showed the effectiveness of reducing waterwithdrawal over 30 years in maintaining the aquifer in a state of equilibrium.The best scenario consisted of cutting down extraction by 10%over the said period.Output maps of the water table rise at the Najafabad aquifer clearly showed that the groundwater management scenario involving a 10%reduction ofwater withdrawal was the most effective solution,as itwould raise thewater level by 6.7 m.Regarding other scenarios,reducing cultivated area by 20%was found to raise the water table by 5.03 m on average,while cutting down water withdrawal by 5%increased the water table by 3.6 m,and a 10%reduction of the cultivated area resulted in a 1.85mrise.The combinedmodel proposed here can be used for similar aquifers and can aid decision-makers and managers.Mahsa Malmir Saman Javadi Ali Moridi Aminreza Neshat Babak Razdar 2021Geoscience Frontiers2021,12,4:7

5Plasma Sprayed NiAl Intermetallic Coating Produced with Mechanically Alloyed Powder显示文摘In the present research, mechanically alloyed Ni-Al powder was utilized to develop plasma sprayed coatings, and the effect of the spray distance and heat treatment on the phases, microstructure, and hardness of the coat- ings were examined. Coatings were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and through microhardness measurements. Although mechanically al- loyed Ni-Al powder showed no intermetallic phases, the coatings did. Different spray distances from 5 to 19 cm were employed for plasma spray and the specimens were heat treated at different temperatures, then the amount of oxides, porosity and hardness of the coatings were changed according to the spray condition. The thermal energy of the plasma spray caused the formation of NiAl phases while particles flew to the substrate or after that. Extreme increase in heat treatment temperature and spray distance resulted in oxidation and reduction in the quality of the coating. 6Visual performance of four types of diffractive multifocal intraocular lenses and a review of articles显示文摘AIM: To compare the clinical outcomes of a variety of multifocal intraocular lenses(MIOLs) in patients diagnosed with presbyopia or cataracts. METHODS: This clinical trial study included 141 patients(282 eyes) with different MIOLs implantation. The Symfony(60 eyes), the Re STOR(100 eyes), the AT LISAtri(60 eyes), and the Pan Optix(62 eyes) intraocular lenses were evaluated in this prospective interventional study. The near, intermediate, and distant visual acuities, contrast sensitivity, and defocus curve were measured as valid criteria. To statistically analyze the results, we used the Statistical Package for Social Science software, the non-parametric Wilcoxon signed-rank t, the one-way analysis of variance and the Tukey’s post-hoc test in our analysis. Moreover, we conducted a detailed literature search on the Pub Med database in English about MIOLs, in total 59 studies were included in this review article.RESULTS: The four approaches did not show any significant difference in the best-corrected distance visual acuity(P>0.05). The defocus curves at the contrast of 100% showed that trifocal IOLs had better intermediate performance than the bifocal IOL(P<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences between AT LISAtri and Pan Optix lenses for visual acuity at all distances. The eyes with Pan Optix, Symfony, and AT LISAtri IOL showed better contrast sensitivity than those Re STOR at spatial frequencies of 1, 3, and 6 cpd in photopic and mesopic conditions(P<0.001). CONCLUSION: All four groups of the multifocal lenses were satisfying in terms of distance and near vision. 7A preliminary study of impact of reduced system inertia in a low-carbon power system显示文摘One of the important features of low-carbon electric power system is the massive deployment of renewable energy resources in the advent of a new carbon-strained economy.Wind generation is a major technology of generating electric power with zero carbon dioxide emission.In a power system with the high penetration of wind generation,the displacement of conventional synchronous generators with variable speed wind turbines reduces system inertia.This leads to larger system frequency deviation following a loss of large generation.In this paper,the impact of the reduction of system inertia on system frequency is analyzed as the result of the integration of a significant amount of wind generation into power systems.Furthermore,we present a preliminary study of the impact of the distribution of the inertia contributions from those online conventional synchronous generators on the rate of change of frequency(ROCOF)based on the total energy injected into the system due to the fault.The total fault energy is represented using Hamiltonian formulism.With the IEEE 39-bus system,it is shown that for a fault with the given injected total energy,clearing time,and location,the distribution of inertia contributions can significantly affect the magnitude of ROCOF.Moreover,for such a fault with different locations,the average of the magnitudes of ROCOF caused by the fault at different locations is larger when the distribution of the inertia contributions is more dispersed.Di WU Milad JAVADI John Ning JIANG 2015Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy2015,3,1:4

9Strength properties of xanthan gum and guar gum treated kaolin at different water contents显示文摘Nowadays,using biopolymer as a ground improvement method has become very popular.However,since biopolymers are organic and degradable,their long-term effect is not fully known.In this study,the effects of biopolymers on the mechanical behavior of kaolin clay were investigated through a comprehensive program of experiments.Two types of biopolymer,i.e.xanthan gum and guar gum were chosen to investigate the effect of biopolymer type.For this purpose,specimens were prepared using standard Proctor energy at four different water contents(25%,30%35%and 40%)with 0.5%,1%,1.5%and 2%biopolymer inclusions.The specimens were cured for 1 d,7 d,28 d and 90 d.Moreover,some of the specimens were kept in the curing room for 3 years to observe the long-term effect of the biopolymers.At the end of the curing periods,the specimens were subjected to unconfined compression test,and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)analysis was performed to observe the mechanism of strength improvement.The results revealed that the unconfined compressive strength(UCS)of the specimens treated with biopolymers increased in all biopolymer inclusion levels and water contents up to a 90-d curing period.For specimens containing xanthan gum,the maximum strength increase was observed at 25%water content and 2%xanthan gum with 90-d curing.The strength increased 5.23 times induced by xanthan gum addition when compared to the pure clay.Moreover,the increase in strength reached 8.53 times in specimens treated with guar gum.Besides,increasing water content caused more ductile behavior,thus increasing the axial deformation.Irem Bozyigit Akbar Javadi Selim Altun 2021Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2021,13,5:4

12Comparison of free breathing and respiratory triggered diffusion-weighted imaging sequences for liver imaging显示文摘BACKGROUND Diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI)has become a useful tool in the detection,characterization,and evaluation of response to treatment of many cancers,including malignant liver lesions.DWI offers higher image contrast between lesions and normal liver tissue than other sequences.DWI images acquired at two or more b-values can be used to derive an apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC).DWI in the body has several technical challenges.This include ghosting artifacts,mis-registration and susceptibility artifacts.New DWI sequences have been developed to overcome some of these challenges.Our goal is to evaluate 3 new DWI sequences for liver imaging.AIM To qualitatively and quantitatively compare 3 DWI sequences for liver imaging:free-breathing(FB),simultaneous multislice(SMS),and prospective acquisition correction(PACE).METHODS Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)was performed in 20 patients in this prospective study.The MR study included 3 separate DWI sequences:FB-DWI,SMS-DWI,and PACE-DWI.The image quality,mean ADC,standard deviations(SD)of ADC,and ADC histogram were compared.Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were used to compare qualitative image quality.A linear mixed model was used to compare the mean ADC and the SDs of the ADC values.All tests were 2-sided and P values of<0.05 were considered statistically significant.RESULTS There were 56 lesions(50 malignant)evaluated in this study.The mean qualitative image quality score of PACE-DWI was 4.48.This was significantly better than that of SMS-DWI(4.22)and FB-DWI(3.15)(P<0.05).Quantitatively,the mean ADC values from the 3 different sequences did not significantly differ for each liver lesion.FB-DWI had a markedly higher variation in the SD of the ADC values than did SMS-DWI and PACE-DWI.We found statistically significant differences in the SDs of the ADC values for FB-DWI vs PACE-DWI(P<0.0001)and for FB-DWI vs SMS-DWI(P=0.03).The SD of the ADC values was not statistically significant for PACE-DWI and SMS-DWI(P=0.18).The quality of the PACE-DWI ADC histograms were considered better than the SMS-DWI and FB-DWI.CONCLUSION Compared to FB-DWI,both PACE-DWI and SMS-DWI provide better image quality and decreased quantitative variability in the measurement of ADC values of liver lesions.Janio Szklaruk Jong Bum Son Wei Wei Priya Bhosale Sanaz Javadi Jingfei Ma 2019World Journal of Radiology2019,11,11:2
13A new hybrid framework of site selection for groundwater recharge显示文摘Since incorrect site selection has sometimes led to the failure of artificial recharge projects,it is necessary to increase the effectiveness of such projects and minimize their failure by employing new techniques.Therefore,the present research used a combination of decision-making models,numerical groundwater modeling and clustering technique to determine suitable sites for implementation of an artificial recharge project.This hybrid approach was employed for the Yasouj aquifer located in southwestern Iran.In the first stage,by employing an AHP decision-making model,hydraulic conductivity,specific yield,slope,land use,depth to groundwater,and aquifer thickness were selected from 21 criteria used in previous research.The selected criteria were then entered as input into the classical k-means clustering model.Using the output,aquifer was divided into seven different regions or clusters.These clusters were then matched with the land use map,and some of the abandoned land areas were selected as the final option for implementing the artificial recharge project.Finally,the MODFLOW code in the GMS software was used to simulate the groundwater level and cluster the sites selected,with regards to increase in groundwater level.Results indicated that the most significant increases in groundwater level(43 and 27 cm)were those of Clusters 2 and 6 in the northern and western parts of the aquifer,respectively.Therefore,this approach can be used in other similar aquifers in arid and semi-arid regions to select the best sites for artificial recharge and to prevent loss of floodwaters.Saman Javadi Masoud Saatsaz SMehdy Hashemy Shahdany Aminreza Neshat Sami Ghordoyee Milan Sara Akbari 2021Geoscience Frontiers2021,12,4:2
