| 3 | Split internal-loop photobioreactor for Scenedesmus sp.microalgae:Culturing and hydrodynamics显示文摘In this study, the evaluation of the performance of the split internal loop photobioreactor for culturing a species of green microalgae,Scenedesmus sp.under different operating superficial gas velocity and during a different time of growth(i.e.,starting for the first day until end day of the culturing process)was addressed. The evaluation of the performance of the split internal loop photobioreactor was included assessing the density,pH,temperature, viscosity, surface tension, the optical density, cell population, dry biomass, and chlorophyll of the culture medium of the microalgae culturing.Additionally, the hydrodynamics of a Split Internal-Loop Photobioreactor with microalgae culturing was comprehensively quantified.Radioactive particle tracking(RPT)and gamma-ray computed tomography(CT)techniques were applied for the first time to quantify and address the influence of microalgae culture on the hydrodynamic parameters. The hydrodynamics parameters such as local liquid velocity field, shear stresses, turbulent kinetic energy, and local gas holdup profiles were measured at different superficial gas velocities as well as under different times of algae growth. The obtained results indicate that the flow distribution may significantly affect the performance of the photobioreactor, which may have substantial effects on the cultivation process. The obtained experimental data can serve as benchmark data for the evaluation and validation of computational fluid dynamics(CFD)codes and their closures. This,in turn, allows us to develop efficient reactors and consequently improving the productivity and selectivity of these photobioreactors. | Laith S.Sabri Abbas J.Sultan Muthanna H.Al-Dahhan | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2021,34,5: | 0 |
| 4 | Flow Regimes in Bubble Columns with and without Internals: A Review显示文摘Hydrodynamics characterization in terms offlow regime behavior is a crucial task to enhance the design of bubble column reactors and scaling up related methodologies. This review presents recent studies on the typicalflow regimes established in bubble columns. Some effort is also provided to introduce relevant definitions pertaining to thisfield, namely, that of“void fraction”and related(local,chordal,cross-sectional and volumetric)variants.Experimental studies involving different parameters that affect design and operating conditions are also discussed in detail. In the second part of the review, the attention is shifted to cases with internals of various types(perfo-rated plates, baffles, vibrating helical springs, mixers, and heat exchanger tubes)immersed in the bubble columns. It is shown that the presence of these elements has a limited influence on the global column hydrodynamics. However, they can make the homogeneousflow regime more stable in terms of transition gas velocity and transi-tion holdup value. The last section is used to highlight gaps which have not beenfilled yet and future directions of investigation. | Ayat N.Mahmood Amer A.Abdulrahman Laith S.Sabri Abbas J.Sultan Hasan Shakir Majdi Muthanna H.Al-Dahhan | 2024 | Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing2024,20,2: | 0 |
| 5 | A Comprehensive Review of the Influence of Heat Exchange Tubes on Hydrodynamic,Heat, and Mass Transfer in Bubble and Slurry Bubble显示文摘Bubble and slurry bubble column reactors(BCRs/SBCRs)are used for various chemical, biochemical, and petro-chemical applications. They have several operational and maintenance advantages, including excellent heat and mass transfer rates, simplicity, and low operating and maintenance cost.Typically,a catalyst is present in addition to biochemical processes where microorganisms are used to produce industrially valuable bio-products.Since most applications involve complicated gas-liquid,gas-liquid-solid,and exothermic processes, the BCR/SBCR must be equipped with heat-exchanging tubes to dissipate heat and control the reactor’s overall performance. In this review, past and very recent experimental and numerical investigations on such systems are critically dis-cussed.Furthermore,gaps to befilled and critical aspects still requiring investigation are identified. | Dalia S.Makki Hasan Sh.Majdi Amer A.Abdulrahman Abbas J.Sultan Zahraa W.Hasan Laith S.Sabri Bashar J.Kadhim Muthanna HAl-Dahhan | 2023 | Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing2023,19,10: | 0 |
