| 1 | Aqueous suspension of anise “Pimpinella anisum” protects rats against chemically induced gastric ulcers显示文摘AIM: To substantiate the claims of Unani and Arabian traditional medicine practitioners on the gastroprotective potential effect of a popular spice anise, 'Pimpinella anisum L.' on experimentally-induced gastric ulceration and secretion in rats. METHODS: Acute gastric ulceration in rats was produced by various noxious chemicals including 80% ethanol, 0.2 mol/L NaOH, 25% NaCl and indomethacin. Anti-secretory studies were undertaken using pylorus- ligated Shay rat technique. Levels of gastric non-protein sulfhydryls (NP-SH) and wall mucus were estimated and gastric tissue was also examined histologically. Anise aqueous suspension was used in two doses (250 and 500 mg/kg body weight) in all experiments. RESULTS: Anise significantly inhibited gastric mu- cosal damage induced by necrotizing agents and indomethacin. The anti-ulcer effect was further confirmed histologically. In pylorus-ligated Shay rats, anise suspension significantly reduced the basal gastric acid secretion, acidity and completely inhibited the rumenal ulceration. On the other hand, the suspension significantly replenished ethanol-induced depleted levels of gastric mucosal NP-SH and gastric wall mucus concentration. CONCLUSION: Anise aqueous suspension possesses significant cytoprotective and anti-ulcer activities against experimentally-induced gastric lesions. | 3 | Does N ratio affect survival in D1 and D2 lymph node dissection for gastric cancer?显示文摘AIM:To identify whether there could have been changes in survival if lymph node ratio (N ratio) had been used.METHODS:We assessed 334 gastric adenocarcinoma cases retrospectively between 2001 and 2009.Two hundred and sixteen patients out of 334 were included in the study.Patients were grouped according to disection1 (D1) or dissection 2 (D2) dissection.We compared the estimated survival and actual survival determined by Pathologic nodes (pN) class and N ratio,and SPSS 15.0 software was used for statistical analysis.RESULTS:Ninety-six (44.4%) patients underwent D1 dissection and 120 (55.6%) had D2 dissection.When groups were evaluated,23 (24.0%) patients in D1 and 21 (17.5%) in D2 had stage migration (P=0.001).When both D1 and D2 groups were evaluated for number of pathological lymph nodes,despite the fact that there was no difference in N ratio between D1 and D2 groups,a statistically significant difference was found between them with regard to pN1 and pN2 groups (P=0.047,P=0.044 respectively).In D1,pN0 had the longest survival while pN3 had the shortest.In D2,pN0 had the longest survival whereas pN3 had the shortest survival.CONCLUSION:N ratio is an accurate staging system for defining prognosis and treatment plan,thus decreasing methodological errors in gastric cancer staging. | Ibrahim Sakcak Baris Dogu Yildiz Fatih Mehmet Avsar Saadet Akturan Kemal Kilic Erdal Cosgun Enver O Hamamci | 2011 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2011，17，35： | 3 |
| 4 | Determination of Polarity Terms of Some Nitrogen-Containing Surfactants and Simulated Hydrophobic Tail Models by Gas Chromatography显示文摘Some polarity terms of two groups of nitrogen-containing surfactants (six alkanolamides and nine polyoxyethylenated long chain amines) are measured through gas chromatography. The apparent methanol carbon number (CMeOH) and polarity index (IP) values are determined on the investigated surfactants as stationary phases in packed columns. Similarly, CMeOH and IP values are determined on simulated hydrophobic tail (SHT) models. The obtained results reveal that the introduction of SHT approach permits the distinction between the polarities of different surfactants and their head groups. The measured polarity terms are discussed as related to hydrophile-lipophile balance (HLB) number and the hydrophobic group carbon number (RCN).
