| 2 | Three-stage aged refuse biofilter for the treatment of landfill leachate显示文摘A field-scale aged refuse(AR) biofilter constructed in Shanghai Refuse Landfill,containing about 7000 m3 aged refuse inside,was evaluated for its performance in the treatment of landfill leachate. This AR biofilter can be divided into three stages and can manage 50 m3 landfill leachate per day. The physical,chemical,and biological characteristics of AR were analyzed for evaluating the AR biofilter as leachate treatment host. The results revealed that over 87.8%-96.2% of COD and 96.9%-99.4% of ammonia nitrogen were removed by the three-stage AR biofilter when the influent leachate COD and ammonia nitrogen concentration were in the range 5478-10842 mg/L and 811-1582 mg/L,respectively. The final effiuent was inodorous and pale yellow with COD and ammonia nitrogen below 267-1020 mg/L and 6-45 mg/L,respectively. The three-stage AR biofilter had effcient nitrification but relative poor denitrification capacity with a total nitrogen(TN) removal of 58%-73%. The external temperature of AR biofilter did not influence the total ammonia nitrogen removal significantly. | 4 | GIS-Based Risk Assessment of Debris Flow Disasters in the Upper Reach of Yangtze River显示文摘This paper discussed theory and methodologies of debris-flow risk assessment and established an implementation process according to indicators of debris-flow hazard degree,vulnerability,risk degree,etc. Among these methodologies,historical and potential hazard degree was comprehensively considered into hazard assessment and hazard index was presented to indicate the debris-flow hazard degree. Regarding debris-flow vulnerability assessment,its statistical data and calculating procedure were based on the hazard-degree regionalization instead of administrative divisions,which improved the as-sessing scientificity and precision. These quantitative methodologies inte-grated with Geography Information System(GIS) were applied to the risk assessment of debris flows in the upper reach of Yangtze River. | 5 | The Chinese Hα Solar Explorer(CHASE) mission: An overview显示文摘The Chinese Hα Solar Explorer(CHASE), dubbed “Xihe”—Goddess of the Sun, was launched on October 14, 2021 as the first solar space mission of China National Space Administration(CNSA). The CHASE mission is designed to test a newly developed satellite platform and to acquire the spectroscopic observations in the Hα waveband. The Hα Imaging Spectrograph(HIS)is the scientific payload of the CHASE satellite. It consists of two observational modes: raster scanning mode and continuum imaging mode. The raster scanning mode obtains full-Sun or region-of-interest spectral images from 6559.7 to 6565.9 ? and from 6567.8 to 6570.6 ? with 0.024 ? pixel spectral resolution and 1 min temporal resolution. The continuum imaging mode obtains photospheric images in continuum around 6689 ? with the full width at half maximum of 13.4 ?. The CHASE mission will advance our understanding of the dynamics of solar activity in the photosphere and chromosphere. | 7 | Enhanced electrokinetic remediation of cadmium-contaminated natural clay using organophosphonates in comparison with EDTA显示文摘Soil contamination by metals is a worldwide environmental problem. Electrokinetic extraction is a promising technology for in-situ remediation of contaminated soils of low hydraulic permeability. However, the extraction of metals is usually hindered by the high buffer capacity of natural soils. Organophosphonates are strong metal chelates as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid(EDTA) which has been widely studied in the enhancement of electrokinetic remediation. In this study, batch desorption experiments and bench-scale electrokinetic extraction experiments were carried out to study the effect of two organophosphonates, i.e.,(nitrilotrimethylene)triphosphonate(NTMP) &(ethylenedinitrilo)-tetramethylenephosphonate(EDTMP), on the extraction of cadmium from a natural clay in comparison with EDTA. Results of the batch desorption experiments showed that more than 75% of the sorbed cadmium could be dissolved into solution using 0.1 mol·L^(-1) organophosphonates or EDTA in the wide p H range of 1–11. Results of the electrokinetic extraction experiments showed that the cadmium spiked in the specimen migrated towards the anode with the enhancement of NTMP,EDTMP, and EDTA under a constant voltage gradient of approximately 1.0 V·cm-1. Although cadmium mobilization enhanced by EDTA was more efficient than that by the organophosphonates, accumulation of cadmium was observed in the vicinity of the anode. The average removal efficiencies of cadmium from the soil after approximately 5 days of electrokinetic extraction enhanced by 0.1 mol·L-1 NTMP(22.8%) and EDTMP(22.4%) were higher than that by 0.1 mol·L^(-1) EDTA(15.1%). | Yingying Gu Albert T. | 10 | Removal of heavy metals from mine water by cyanobacterial calcification显示文摘The influence of different illumination intensities on cyanobacterial calcification induced removal of heavy metals from contaminated mine water was studied. Cyanobacterial calcification experiments were performed using a growth medium intended to simulate contaminated mine water. The results indicate that calcification can promote the removal of heavy metal ions. As the illumination intensity became stronger calcification rates increased and the removal of Zn2+ and Cd2+ became more obvious. When the illumination intensity was 10000 lux the removal of Pb2+ was the largest observed: stronger or weaker illumination reduced the amount of lead removed. The removal of three different heavy metals complies with an index function. | 11 | THE DISTRIBUTION OF PREFERENTIAL PATHS AND ITS RELATION TO THE SOIL CHARACTERISTICS IN THE THREE GORGES AREA,CHINA显示文摘To study the characteristics of the distribution of the preferential paths and the affecting factors in the Three Gorges area, four soil profiles were dug to observe the distribution of preferential paths in the Quxi watershed in the Yangtze River basin. The Morisita exponential test method was used to examine the distribution type of preferential paths. The physical properties and infiltration characteristics of the soil were also measured to evaluate their relationship to preferential paths. The results showed that in this area, preferential paths clustered and mainly distributed in the 80-100 cm soil layer, and along the interface between the weathered layer and semi-weathered layer. There were more non-capillary pores in the 83-110 cm layer than in the other layers. It can be derived that most non-capillary pores in this layer were preferential paths caused by geological processes and rotten plant roots. The percentage of coarse soil particles increased with the depth of the soil layer. In the deeper soil layer, the coarse soil particles helped the formation of preferential paths. | 12 | In Vitro Construction of Effective M1GS Ribozymes Targeting HCMV UL54 RNA Segments显示文摘Seven sequence-specific ribozymes (M1GS RNAs) derived in vitro from the catalytic RNA subunit of Escherichia coli RNase P and targeting the mRNAs transcribed by the UL54 gene encoding the DNA polymerase of human cytomegalovirus were screened from 11 ribozymes that were designed based on four rules: (1) the NCCA-3′ terminal must be unpaired with the substrate; (2) the guide sequence (GS) must be at least 12 nt in length; (3) the eighth nucleotide must be U, counting from the site-1; and (4) around the cleavage site, the sites -1/+1/+2 must be U/G/C or C/G/C. Further investigation of the factors affecting the cleavage effect and the optimal ratio for M1GS/substrate was carried out. It was determined that the optimal ratio for M1GS/substrate was 2:1 and too much M1GS led to substrate degrading. | 13 | Brain IL-1β was involved in reserpine-induced behavioral depression in rats显示文摘AIM: To investigate the mechanism of brain interleukin-1β (IL-1β) in reserpine-induced behavioral depression in rats. METHODS: Porsult swim test was used in the measurement of depressive behavior and ELISA was used in measurement of brain IL-1β. RESULTS: Intraperitoneal injection of reserpine (0, 4, 6, and 8 mg/kg, ip) increased floating time in the Porsult swim test in a dose-and time-dependent manner in rats. Intracerebroventricular injection (icv) of IL-1β receptor antagonist (IL-1ra, 6 mg/kg) blocked the increment of floating time in Porsult swim test at 48 and 72 h after reserpine injection, but not at 1 and 24 h after injection. Brain IL-1β increased after reserpine treatment in posterior cortex, hippocampus, and hypothalamus. The increase of IL-1β concentration starts at 24 hours after injection of reserpine and reached the peak at 48 h. | 14 | Optimization of the End Effect of Hilbert-Huang transform(HHT)显示文摘In fault diagnosis of rotating machinery, Hilbert-Huang transform(HHT) is often used to extract the fault characteristic signal and analyze decomposition results in time-frequency domain. However, end effect occurs in HHT, which leads to a series of problems such as modal aliasing and false IMF(Intrinsic Mode Function). To counter such problems in HHT, a new method is put forward to process signal by combining the generalized regression neural network(GRNN) with the boundary local characteristic-scale continuation(BLCC).Firstly, the improved EMD(Empirical Mode Decomposition) method is used to inhibit the end effect problem that appeared in conventional EMD. Secondly, the generated IMF components are used in HHT. Simulation and measurement experiment for the cases of time domain,frequency domain and related parameters of HilbertHuang spectrum show that the method described here can restrain the end effect compared with the results obtained through mirror continuation, as the absolute percentage of the maximum mean of the beginning end point offset and the terminal point offset are reduced from 30.113% and27.603% to 0.510% and 6.039% respectively, thus reducing the modal aliasing, and eliminating the false IMF components of HHT. | 15 | Correlative Mechanism of Hydraulic-mechanical Property in Cemented Paste Backfill显示文摘Hydraulic characteristic is a good indication of binder hydration, which determines the strength development of cemented paste backfill(CPB). Therefore, the hydraulic characteristic should be communicated with the mechanical property to provide an advanced knowledge that can help mine workers make a rational strategy and reduce the mining cycle. An experimental program was performed to obtain the hydraulic(monitored by suction and volumetric water content) and mechanical properties(unconfined compressive strength(UCS) test) of CPB at the 28 days curing age. According to the monitoring and testing results, the relationships between the hydration reaction rate and volumetric water content(VWC), suction and VWC, suction and UCS were established. The hydration degree showed a liner rise as the VWC decreased. Curves of the VWC and UCS were featured with a nonlinear reduction and nonlinear growth(both are exponential functions) as the suction rising, respectively. These established relationships validated the strong correlative mechanism of hydraulic and mechanics behavior for CPB. Also, the results of the present research indicated that the hydraulic characteristics and mechanical property were strongly coupled. To study the mechanisms of solar eruptions and the plasma dynamics in the lower atmosphere, the Chinese Hα Solar Explorer(CHASE) was launched into a Sun-synchronous orbit on October 14, 2021. The scientific payload of the CHASE satellite is the Hα Imaging Spectrograph(HIS). The CHASE/HIS acquires, for the first time, seeing-free Hα spectroscopic observations with high spectral and temporal resolutions. It consists of two observational modes. The raster scanning mode provides full-Sun or region-of-interest spectra at Hα(6559.7-6565.9 ?) and Fe I(6567.8-6570.6 ?) wavebands. The continuum imaging mode obtains full-Sun photospheric images at around 6689 ?. In this paper, we present detailed calibration procedures for the CHASE/HIS science data, including the dark-field and flat-field correction, slit image curvature correction, wavelength and intensity calibration, and coordinate transformation. | 18 | Carbon-coated Li_4Ti_5O_(12) Anode Materials Synthesized Using H_2TiO_3 as Ti Source显示文摘Two low-cost synthesis routes have been developed to fabricate carbon-coated Li4Ti5O12 by using H2 Ti O3instead of anatase Ti O2 as Ti source through solid-state reaction process. One route is a direct solid mixture of H2 Ti O3, Li2CO3 and pitch followed by high-temperature solid-state reaction. The other includes mixture of H2 Ti O3and Li2CO3 with pitch dissolved in furanidine under vacuum and the same solid-state reaction procedure is followed after the mixture is totally dried. Microstructural investigations indicate that H2 Ti O3exhibits secondary aggregates morphology with primary particle sizes of 10e20 nm. Carbon-coating layers with thickness of 2e3 nm have been observed on Li4Ti5O12 synthesized by the two routes. Cyclic performance, rate capability and electrochemical impedance spectrum of the two Li4Ti5O12/C composites have been performed, which indicate that Li4Ti5O12/C obtained by furanidine-assisted mixture exhibits better electrochemical performance than Li4Ti5O12/C synthesized by direct solid mixture. The possible reasons have been discussed. | 20 | Magnetostratigraphic dating of the Hougou Paleolithic site in the Nihewan Basin,North China显示文摘The fluvio-lacustrine sedimentary sequences in the Nihewan Basin,northern China,are important for studying Quaternary land mammal evolution and Paleolithic settlements in the high-latitude temperate East Asia.Here we report new magnetostratigraphic results that constrain age of the Hougou Paleolithic site in this basin.Magnetite and hematite were identified as carriers of the characteristic remanent magnetizations,with the former being dominant.Magnetic polarity stratigraphy shows that the Hougou sequence recorded the very late Matuyama reverse chron and the Brunhes normal chron.The age of the Hougou Paleolithic site was estimated to be 395 ka based on an averaged rate of sediment accumulation.The combination of our magnetostratigraphy and previously published chronological data for early Paleolithic or human sites in the high-latitude northern China may document a persistent colonization of the hostile high-latitude areas of the eastern Old World during the middle-early Pleistocene. | ZUO TianWen CHENG HongJiang LIU Ping XIE Fei DENG ChengLong | 2011 | Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,11: | 2 |
