1Changes in different organic matter fractions during conventional treatment and advanced treatment显示文摘XAD-8 resin isolation of organic matter in water was used to divide organic matter into the hydrophobic and hydrophilic fractions. A pilot plant was used to investigate the change in both fractions during conventional and advanced treatment processes. The treatment of hydrophobic organics (HPO), rather than hydrophilic organicas (HPI), should carry greater emphasis due to HPO's higher trihalomethane formation potential (THMFP) and haloacetic acid formation potential (HAAFP). The removal of hydrophobic matter and its transmission into hydrophilic matter reduced ultimate DBP yield during the disinfection process. The results showed that sand filtration, ozonation, and biological activated carbon (BAC) filtration had distinct influences on the removal of both organic fractions. Additionally, the combination of processes changed the organic fraction proportions present during treatment. The use of ozonation and BAC maximized organic matter removal efficiency, especially for the hydrophobic fraction. In sum, the combination of pre-ozonation, conventional treatment, and O 3 -BAC removed 48% of dissolved organic carbon (DOC), 60% of HPO, 30% of HPI, 63% of THMFP, and 85% of HAAFP. The use of conventional treatment and O 3 -BAC without pre-ozonation had a comparable performance, removing 51% of DOC, 56% of HPO, 45% of HPI, 61% of THMFP, and 72% of HAAFP. 2Large eddy simulation of unconfined turbulent swirling flow显示文摘Large eddy simulations(LES) were performed to study the non-reacting flow fields of a Cambridge swirl burner. The dynamic Smagorinsky eddy viscosity model is used as the sub-grid scale turbulence model. Comparisons of experimental data show that the LES results are capable of predicting mean and root-mean-square velocity profiles. The LES results show that the annular swirling flow has a minor impact on the formation of the bluff-body recirculation zone. The vortex structures near the shear layers, visualized by the iso-surface of Q-criterion, display ring structures in non-swirling flow and helical structures in swirling flow near the burner exit. Spectral analysis was employed to predict the occurrence of flow oscillations induced by vortex shedding and precessing vortex core(PVC). In order to extract accurately the unsteady large-scale structures in swirling flow, a three-dimensional proper orthogonal decomposition(POD) method was developed to reconstruct turbulent fluctuating velocity fields. POD analysis reveals that flow fields contain co-existing helical and toroidal shaped coherent structures. The helical structure associated with the PVC is the most energetic dynamic flow structure. 3A compact neural recording interface based on silicon microelectrode显示文摘A prototype of hybrid neural recording interface has been developed for extracellular neural recording.It consists of a silicon-based plane microelectrode array and a CMOS low noise neural amplifier chip.The neural amplifier chip is designed and implemented in 0.18 m N-well CMOS 1P6M technology.The area of the neural preamplifier is only 0.042 mm2with a gain of 48.3 dB.The input equivalent noise is 4.73μ Vrms within pass bands of 4 kHz.To avoid cable tethering for high dense multichannel neural recording interface and make it compact,flip-chip bonding is used to integrate the preamplifier chip and the microelectrode together.The hybrid device measures 3 mm×5.5 mm×330μm,which is convenient for implant or in-vivo neural recording.The hybrid device was testified in in-vivo experiment.Neural signals were recorded from hippocampus region of anesthetized Sprague Dawley rats successfully.HAN JianQiang ZHANG Xu PEI WeiHua GUI Qiang LIU Ming CHEN HongDa 2013Science China(Technological Sciences)2013,56,11:2

6Experimental Study on the Hydrodynamic Performance of a Heaving Buoy Assembled on a Net Cage Platform显示文摘To take advantage of the abundance of both fishery and wave energy resources in offshore sea areas,a novel floating platform with a heaving buoy-based wave energy converter(WEC)assembled with a set of net cages is presented in this work.The floating WEC system provides a power supply,while the net cages are used for aquaculture.It is designed to have an independent and self-operation breeding function.An experimental study is carried out to investigate the hydrodynamic performance of the device in a wave tank considering the factors of net cages,draft depth,and power take-off,and results show that these variables have significant effects on wave energy capture.Incident waves with short periods cause intense interactions that allow the device to undergo large relative motion.The draft depth could be determined according to wave period rather than wave height.This study also explores the response amplitude operator of the device and determines its resonance scope.The experimental results could provide reliable information for future studies on phase differences and the design of two-body WECs.SHI Hongda DONG Xiaochen FENG Liang HAN Zhi 2019Journal of Ocean University of China2019,18,5:1

8Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes loaded into a composite conduit promote functional recovery after peripheral nerve injury in rats显示文摘Complete transverse injury of peripheral nerves is challenging to treat.Exosomes secreted by human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells are considered to play an important role in intercellular communication and regulate tissue regeneration.In previous studies,a collagen/hyaluronic acid sponge was shown to provide a suitable regeneration environment for Schwann cell proliferation and to promote axonal regeneration.This three-dimensional(3D)composite conduit contains a collagen/hyaluronic acid inner sponge enclosed in an electrospun hollow poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)tube.However,whether there is a synergy between the 3D composite conduit and exosomes in the repair of peripheral nerve injury remains unknown.In this study,we tested a comprehensive strategy for repairing long-gap(10 mm)peripheral nerve injury that combined the 3D composite conduit with human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes.Repair effectiveness was evaluated by sciatic functional index,sciatic nerve compound muscle action potential recording,recovery of muscle mass,measuring the cross-sectional area of the muscle fiber,Masson trichrome staining,and transmission electron microscopy of the regenerated nerve in rats.The results showed that transplantation of the 3D composite conduit loaded with human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes promoted peripheral nerve regeneration and restoration of motor function,similar to autograft transplantation.More CD31-positive endothelial cells were observed in the regenerated nerve after transplantation of the loaded conduit than after transplantation of the conduit without exosomes,which may have contributed to the observed increase in axon regeneration and distal nerve reconnection.Therefore,the use of a 3D composite conduit loaded with human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes represents a promising cell-free therapeutic option for the treatment of peripheral nerve injury.Haoshuai Tang Junjin Li Hongda Wang Jie Ren Han Ding Jun Shang Min Wang Zhijian Wei Shiqing Feng 2024Neural Regeneration Research2024,19,4:0
9Label-Free Virtual HER2 Immunohistochemical Staining of Breast Tissue using Deep Learning显示文摘The immunohistochemical(IHC)staining of the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2)biomarker is widely practiced in breast tissue analysis,preclinical studies,and diagnostic decisions,guiding cancer treatment and investigation of pathogenesis.HER2 staining demands laborious tissue treatment and chemical processing performed by a histotechnologist,which typically takes one day to prepare in a laboratory,increasing analysis time and associated costs.Here,we describe a deep learning-based virtual HER2 IHC staining method using a conditional generative adversarial network that is trained to rapidly transform autofluorescence microscopic images of unlabeled/label-free breast tissue sections into bright-field equivalent microscopic images,matching the standard HER2 IHC staining that is chemically performed on the same tissue sections.The efficacy of this virtual HER2 staining framework was demonstrated by quantitative analysis,in which three board-certified breast pathologists blindly graded the HER2 scores of virtually stained and immunohistochemically stained HER2 whole slide images(WSIs)to reveal that the HER2 scores determined by inspecting virtual IHC images are as accurate as their immunohistochemically stained counterparts.A second quantitative blinded study performed by the same diagnosticians further revealed that the virtually stained HER2 images exhibit a comparable staining quality in the level of nuclear detail,membrane clearness,and absence of staining artifacts with respect to their immunohistochemically stained counterparts.This virtual HER2 staining framework bypasses the costly,laborious,and time-consuming IHC staining procedures in laboratory and can be extended to other types of biomarkers to accelerate the IHC tissue staining used in life sciences and biomedical workflow.Bijie Bai Hongda Wang Yuzhu Li Kevin de Haan Francesco Colonnese Yujie Wan Jingyi Zuo Ngan B.Doan Xiaoran Zhang Yijie Zhang Jingxi Li Xilin Yang Wenjie Dong Morgan Angus Darrow Elham Kamangar Han Sung Lee Yair Rivenson Aydogan Ozcan 2022Biomedical Engineering Frontiers2022,3,1:0
