Channel morphologic processes of a highly sinuous bend approaching neck cutoff by bank erosion in the middle Yangtze River显示文摘The distal reach of the Lower Jingjiang River(LJR)in the middle of the Yangtze River consists of five adjacent bends, among which the Qigongling Bend is a U-shaped meander with a mean sinuosity of 2.2 and the narrowest neck 525 m in width. This bend is slowly approaching neck cutoff owing to progressive bank erosion. An abnormal phenomenon has occurred in this bend since the Three Gorges Reservoir(TGR)began to operate in 2003 which is erosion in the inner bank zone and deposition in the outer bank zone. This problem has not been fully understood because of the interplay of changes in water-sediment,bank erosion, and artificial bank revetment. In this study, aerial and remote sensing images, hydrological data, channel topography, and an existing bank erosion model are used to reveal channel morphodynamics of this bend and the trend of the potential neck cutoff induced by bank erosion. The study results show that the clear water released from the TGR has provided by forcefully eroded the point bar of inner bank but failed to scour the outer bank due to the protection of bank revetment since the 1990 s.Thus far,the outer bank zone near the bend apex has increasingly widened in conjunction with the formation of 2 emerging sand bars.Consequently, the thalweg of the main channel has laterally shifted toward the inner bank by roughly 800 m.More severely, the rate of bank retreat on the upstream side of the bend neck was about 4.5 m/yr in 2010-2019,but the downstream side of this neck was experienced slight deposition.Bank erosion could be accelerated by progressively increasing erosion and eventually trigger the occurrence of neck cutoff in the next few decades, thereby significantly altering the quasi-equilibrium regime of channel morphodynamics in the LJR.Zhiwei Li Hanyuan Yang Junqiang Xia Meirong Zhou Shanshan Deng Yingzhen Wang 2021International Journal of Sediment Research2021,36,4:5
Formation mechanisms and control method for stray grains at melt-back region of Ni-based single crystal seed显示文摘An experimental study together with numerical simulation was conducted to investigate the formation mechanisms and control methods for stray grains at melt-back of seed in this paper. The numerical simulation results showed that the convex solid/liquid(S/L)interface changed very slowly into a concave interface during the initial solidification stage and the undercooling was slightly affected by the S/L curvature change. The formation of stray grains below melt-back interface at seed perimeter could be suppressed with the decrease of clearance between the seed and mold. However when the clearance was further decreased to 0,an orientation deviation layer formed originated from the deformation of un-melted seed caused by different expend coefficient between the seed and mold. The nucleation of stray grains above the melt-back interface at the seed perimeter could be suppressed using the mold with small surface roughness. The isolated un-melted dendrite stem at semi-solid mushy of the seed with the large original primary dendrite spacing transfer to complex network structure, suppressing the formation of the stray grains, when the primary dendrite spacing of seed decreased or the seed underwent solution heat treatment. Then, the formation mechanisms of the stray grains at the melt-back region are discussed based on above results, and a method is proposed to suppress the formation of the stray grains for preparing single crystal components by re-used seed .Songsong Hu Wenchao Yang Zhuoran Li Hanyuan Xu Taiwen Huang Jun Zhang Haijun Su Lin Liu 2021Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2021,31,4:2
Total ankle replacement with INBONE-II prosthesis: A short-to-medium-term follow-up study in China显示文摘Background:Total ankle replacement(TAR)is a viable option for the treatment of end-stage ankle arthritis. In China, the INBONE-II implant is the only total ankle prosthesis approved since 2016.The purpose of this study is to report a large sample of findings for the TAR with INBONE-II prosthesis. Methods:A total of 64 patients with end-stage ankle arthritis, who underwent primary TAR using INBONE-II by the same surgeon from 2016 to 2019,at a single institution were included in this retrospective,single-center study.Clinical data, radiographic findings, survival rate, and complications were recorded and assessed pre-operatively and at the most recent follow-up.Results:A total of 64 patients were available for follow-up at least 2 years after surgery;the mean follow-up duration for clinical outcomes was 37.9 months(24–59 months),and for radiographic findings was 22.8 months(12–59 months). There were significant improvements(P<0.01)in the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society hindfoot scale, the visual analog scale for pain, and the Short Form-36.There were statistically significant differences between pre-operative and post-operative comparisons of the talar tilt angle(TT)and the tibial lateral surface angle(TLS)in the radiographic findings(TT from 4.7±4.3°to 1.3±1.3°,TLS from 80.4±7.7°to 87.4±2.3°,P<0.01).There was no statistically significant difference in improvement of the tibial anterior surface angle(P=0.14).Ten complications(all low grade)were recorded according to the Glazebrook classification system. The survivorship of the prosthesis was 100%(64/64).Conclusion:Patients who underwent TAR with INBONE-II prosthesis demonstrated significant improvements in all measures of pain and function as well as in radiographic findings.High survival and a low incidence of complications were observed in this study.Yong Wu Hanyuan Yang Xiangbin Guo Hui Du Xiaofeng Gong 2022Chinese Medical Journal2022,,12:1
Low limit of detection of the AlGaN/GaN-based sensor by the Kelvin connection detection technique显示文摘The AlGaN/GaN-based sensor is a promising POCT(point-of-care-testing)device featuring miniaturization, low cost, and high sensitivity.BNP is an effective protein biomarker for the early diagnosis of HF(heart failure). In this work,a novel AlGaN/GaN device with the Kelvin connection structure and the corresponding detection technique was proposed. This technique can effectively suppress the background noise and improve the SNR(signal-to-noise ratio).A BNP detection experiment was carried out to verify the effectiveness of this technique. It is shown that compared with that of the traditional detection method, the LOD(limit of detection)was improved from 0.47 ng/mL to 1.29 pg/mL.The BNP detection experiment was also carried out with a traditional electrochemical Au-electrode sensor with the same surface functionalization steps. The AlGaN/GaN sensor showed a better LOD than the Au-electrode sensor. Moreover, the influence of AlGaN/GaN sensor package on background noise was investigated with the mechanism of the noise source revealed. Finally, based on the optimized package, the optimal SNR quiescent operating point of the AlGaN/GaN sensor was determined.By biasing the sensor at the optimal quiescent operating point and immobilizing the magnetic beads with anti-BNP on the gate of the AlGaN/GaN sensor, the LOD for BNP detection was further improved to 0.097 pg/mL.Hanyuan Zhang Ying Gan Shu Yang Kuang Sheng Ping Wang 2021Microsystems & Nanoengineering2021,7,4:0
Modelling of cantilever bank failure for peat-type meander bends in the source region of the Yellow River显示文摘Bank retreat involving a combination of fluvial erosion and bank collapse has been found to be a major contributor to sediment transport, lateral migration, and planform evolution of meandering rivers.Previous studies have largely examined the general mechanism of cantilever bank failure. However, the composite process of beam(toppling)failure caused by shear failure of the lower part composed of noncohesive soil remains poorly understood. The current paper investigates the diversity and coupling of this collapse process, which is the dominant pattern in the peat-type meandering rivers of the Zoige River basin in the source region of the Yellow River. For this purpose, morphologic and hydraulic measurements were done in the summers of 2016 and 2017.Moreover,a combined method of a theoretical model and numerical simulation was developed to be applied for a continuous meandering channel in the Zoige basin, focusing in particular on five typical cross sections of a highly convoluted bend approaching neck cutoff.Specifically, the theoretical model evaluating the stability of overhanging riverbank was based on static equilibrium theory considering the interaction between composite soil layers. In addition, the Bank Stability and Toe Erosion Model was used to simulate the retreat process of the silt layer based on field measurements including bank morphology, soil composition, and hydrological parameters. Thus,a calculation method for the occurrence of cantilever beam failure in the flood period is proposed, and temporal change and spatial variability in bank profiles caused by three consecutive failures is estimated at the five sections.Satisfactory results showed a relatively close agreement between the calculations and field measurements in terms of the width of the overhanging arms and the dimensions of the slump blocks.Hanyuan Yang Zhiwei Li Yongjun Lu Huaixiang Liu Liqin Zuo 2023International Journal of Sediment Research2023,38,3:0
