1Relationship between vitamin D and IL-23,IL-17 and macrophage chemoattractant protein-1 as markers of fibrosis in hepatitis C virus Egyptians显示文摘AIM:To assess vitamin D in hepatitis C patients and its relationship to interleukin (IL)-23, IL-17, and macrophage chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1). METHODS:The study was conducted on 50 Egyptian hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype number IV-infected patients and 25 ageand gender-matched healthy subjects. Venous blood samples were obtained. Samples were allowed to clot and sera were separated by centrifugation and stored at -20 ℃. A 25 hydroxy vitamin D assay was carried out using solid phase RIA. A 1,25 dihydroxy vitamin D assay was carried out using a commercial kit purchased from Incstar Corporation. IL-17 and -23 and MCP-1 were assayed by an enzyme immunoassay. Quantitative and qualitative polymerase chain reaction for HCV virus were done by TaqMan technology. Only HCV genotype IV-infected subjectswere included in the study. The mean ± SD were determined, a t-test for comparison of means of different parameters was used. Correlation analysis was done using Pearson's correlation. Differences among different groups were determined using the Kruskal-Wallis test. RESULTS:The mean vitamin D level in HCV patients (groupⅠ) was 15 ± 5.2 ng/mL while in control (group Ⅱ) was 39.7 ± 10.8. For active vitamin D in groupⅠas 16.6 ± 4.8 ng/mL while in group Ⅱ was 41.9 ± 7.9. IL-23 was 154 ± 97.8 in group Ⅰ and 6.7 ± 2.17 in group Ⅱ. IL-17 was 70.7 ± 72.5 in cases and 1.2 ± 0.4 in control. MCP-1 was 1582 ± 794.4 in group Ⅰand 216.1 ± 5.38 in group Ⅱ. Vitamin D deficiency affected 72% of HCV-infected patients and 0% of the control group. Vitamin D insufficiency existed in 28% of HCV-in-fected patients and 12% of the control group. One hundred percent of the cirrhotic patients and 40% of non cirrhotic HCV-infected patients had vitamin D deficiency. IL-23, IL-17, and MCP-1 were markedly increased in HCV-infected patients in comparison to controls.A significant negative correlation between vitamin D and IL-17 and-23 and MCP-1 was detected. HCV-infected males and females showed no differences with respect to viral load, vitamin D levels, IL-17, IL-23 and MCP-1. The viral load was negatively correlated with vitamin D and active vitamin D (P = 0.0001 and P = 0.001, respectively), while positively correlated with IL-23, IL-17, and MCP-1. We classified the patients according to sonar findings into four groups. Group Ⅰa with bright hepatomegaly and included 14 patients. Group Ⅰb with perihepatic fibrosis and included 11 patients. Group Ⅰc with liver cirrhosis and included 11 patients. Group Ⅰd with he patocellular carcinoma (HCC) and included 14 patients. Vitamin D and active vitamin D were shown to be lower in cirrhotic patients and much lower in patients with HCC, and this difference was highly significant (P = 0.0001). 3Vertically Aligned Silicon Carbide Nanowires/Boron Nitride Cellulose Aerogel Networks Enhanced Thermal Conductivity and Electromagnetic Absorbing of Epoxy Composites显示文摘With the innovation of microelectronics technology, the heat dissipation problem inside the device will face a severe test. In this work, cellulose aerogel(CA) with highly enhanced thermal conductivity(TC) in vertical planes was successfully obtained by constructing a vertically aligned silicon carbide nanowires(SiC NWs)/boron nitride(BN) network via the ice template-assisted strategy. The unique network structure of SiC NWs connected to BN ensures that the TC of the composite in the vertical direction reaches 2.21 W m^(-1) K^(-1) at a low hybrid filler loading of 16.69 wt%, which was increased by 890% compared to pure epoxy(EP). In addition, relying on unique porous network structure of CA, EP-based composite also showed higher TC than other comparative samples in the horizontal direction. Meanwhile, the composite exhibits good electrically insulating with a volume electrical resistivity about 2.35 × 10^(11) Ω cm and displays excellent electromagnetic wave absorption performance with a minimum reflection loss of-21.5 dB and a wide effective absorption bandwidth(<-10 dB) from 8.8 to 11.6 GHz. 4Octreotide ameliorates gastric lesions in chronically mild stressed rats显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the effect of chronic mild stress(CMS) on the emergence of gastric ulcers and possible modulation by octreotide,a synthetic somatostatin analogue. METHODS:Adult male Wistar rats were subjected to nine different unpredictable random stress procedures for 21 d,a multifactorial interactional animal model for CMS.Octreotide was administered daily for 21 d at two dose levels(50 and 90μg/kg)before exposure to stress procedure.Macro-and microscopical assessments were made,in addition to quantification of plasma corticosterone and gastric mucosal inflammatory,oxidative stress, and apoptotic biomarkers. RESULTS:Exposure to CMS elevated plasma corticosterone(28.3±0.6μg/dL,P=0.002),an event that was accompanied by gastric lesions(6.4±0.16 mm,P=0.01) and confirmed histopathologically.Moreover,the insult elevated gastric mucosal lipid peroxides(13±0.5 nmol/g tissue,P=0.001),tumor necrosis factor-α(3008.6±78.18 pg/g tissue,P<0.001),prostaglandin E2(117.1 ±4.31 pg/g tissue,P=0.002),and caspase-3 activity (2.4±0.14 OD/mg protein,P=0.002).Conversely,CMS mitigated interleukin-10(627.9±12.82 pg/g tissue,P= 0.001).Furthermore,in animals exposed to CMS,octreotide restored plasma corticosterone(61%and 71%from CMS,P=0.002)at both dose levels.These beneficial effects were associated with a remarkable suppression of gastric lesions(38%and 9%from CMS,P=0.01)and reversal of derangements in gastric mucosa. 5Precision Livestock Farming: Precision feeding technologies and sustainable livestock production显示文摘In order to be able to produce safe,uniform,cheap,environmentally-and welfare-friendly food products and market these products in an increasingly complex international agricultural market,livestock producers must have access to timely production related information.Especially the information related to feeding/nutritional issues is important,as feeding related costs are always significant part of variables costs for all types of livestock production.Therefore,automating the collection,analysis and use of production related information on livestock farms will be essential for improving livestock productivity in the future.Electronically-controlled livestock production systems with an information and communication technology(ICT)focus are required to ensure that information is collected in a cost effective and timely manner and readily acted upon on farms.New electronic and ICT related technologies introduced on farms as part of Precision Livestock Farming(PLF)systems will facilitate livestock management methods that are more responsive to market signals.The PLF technologies encompass methods for electronically measuring the critical components of the production system that indicate the efficiency of resource use,interpreting the information captured and controlling processes to ensure optimum efficiency of both resource use and livestock productivity.These envisaged real-time monitoring and control systems could dramatically improve production efficiency of livestock enterprises.However,further research and development is required,as some of the components of PLF systems are in different stages of development.In addition,an overall strategy for the adoption and commercial exploitation of PLF systems needs to be developed in collaboration with private companies.This article outlines the potential role PLF can play in ensuring that the best possible management processes are implemented on farms to improve farm profitability,quality of products,welfare of livestock and sustainability of the farm environment,especially as it related to intensive livestock species.T M Banhazi L Babinszky V Halas M Tscharke 2012International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2012,5,4:5
6p53 antibodies,metallothioneins,and oxidative stress markers in chronic ulcerative colitis with dysplasia显示文摘AIM:To investigate the role of p53 antibodies (p53Abs),metallothioneins (MTs) and oxidative stress markers in the early detection of dysplasia in chronic ulcerative colitis (UC).METHODS:The study included 30 UC patients,15 without dysplasia (group Ⅱ) and 15 with dysplasia (group Ⅲ),in addition to 15 healthy volunteers (group Ⅰ,control subjects).The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technique was used to measure serum p53Abs and MTs,while advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs),and reduced glutathione (GSH) levels were measured by spectrophotometric method in all subjects.RESULTS:In group Ⅱ and group Ⅲ compared to group Ⅰ,there were significant increases in serum levels of AOPPs (145.94 ± 29.86 μmol/L and 192.21 ± 46.71 μmol/L vs 128.95 ± 3.06 μmol/L,P < 0.002 and P <0.001,respectively),MTs (8.18 ± 0.35 μg/mL and 9.20 ± 0.58 μg/mL vs 6.12 ± 0.25 μg/mL,P < 0.05 and P < 0.05,respectively),and p53Abs (20.19 ± 3.20 U/mL and 34.66 ± 1.34 U/mL vs 9.42 ± 1.64 U/mL,P < 0.001 and P < 0.001,respectively).There were significantly higher levels of AOPPs (P < 0.05) and p53Abs (P < 0.001) in UC patients with dysplasia compared to those without dysplasia,while MTs showed no significant difference between the 2 groups (P > 0.096).In contrast,GSH levels showed a significant decrease in both patients' groups (1.87 ± 0.02 μmol/mL and 1.37 ± 0.09 μmol/mL vs 2.49 ± 0.10 μmol/mL,P < 0.05 and P < 0.05 in groups Ⅱ and Ⅲ,respectively) compared with group Ⅰ,and the levels were significantly lower in group Ⅲ than group Ⅱ (P < 0.05).There was a positive correlation between AOPPs and both MTs (r=0.678,P < 0.001) and p53Abs (r=0.547,P < 0.001),and also between p53Abs and MTs (r=0.739,P < 0.001).There was a negative correlation between AOPPs and GSH (r =-0.385,P < 0.001),and also between GSH and both MTs (r=-0.662,P < 0.001) and p53Abs (r=-0.923,P < 0.001).CONCLUSION:Oxidative stress and oxidative cellular damage play an important role in the pathogenesis of chronic UC and the associated carcinogenetic process.p53Abs levels could help in early detection of dysplasia in these conditions.Hala E Hamouda Soha S Zakaria Saber A Ismail Mahmoud A Khedr Wael W Mayah 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,19:5
7Evaluation of DNA damage profile in obese women and its association to risk of metabolic syndrome,polycystic ovary syndrome and recurrent preeclampsia显示文摘Metabolic syndrome(MS)is a cluster of metabolic abnormalities.Obesity and MS are always accompanied by elevated oxidative stress which might affect cellular biomolecules such as DNA.The aim of the present study is to investigate DNA damage profile in obese premenopausal women and its relation to the risk of MS,polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS)and history of recurrent pre-eclampsia.The study included 90 obese women included cases with MS(nZ30),PCOS(n Z30)and previous history of recurrent preeclampsia(nZ30)and,age-matched healthy non-obese control women(n Z 50).The assessment of leukocyte DNA damage was done by comet assay for all cases and controls.Anthropometry and biochemical parameters have been measured.Results showed that mean percent of DNA damage was significantly higher in MS,PCOS as well as in women with the recurrent preeclampsia as compared to healthy controls.The high level of mean DNA damage frequency in obese women was significantly associated with the increased number of metabolic syndrome components.Cases with 2,3 and 3e5 components showed significantly higher levels of DNA damage than controls.Moreover,cases with 3e5 MS components showed significant higher DNA compared to those with the two components.Regarding PCOS,significant positive association between the mean frequency of DNA damage and waist circumference was observed.The study suggests that metabolic abnormalities,PCOS and recurrent pre-eclampsia might be contributed in development of DNA damage in obese women.DNA damage can serve as an early marker for obesity complications in premenopausal women.Moushira Zaki Walaa Basha Hala T.El-Bassyouni Safinaz El-Toukhy Tamer Hussein 2018Genes & Diseases2018,5,4:4

9Molecular analysis and anticancer properties of two identified isolates,Fusarium solani and Emericella nidulans isolated from Wady El-Natron soil in Egypt against Caco-2(ATCC) cell line显示文摘Objective:To characterize,identify and investigate the anticancer properties of two new soil fungal isolates,Emericella nidulansand Fusarium solani isolated from Wady El-Natron in Egypt against colon cancer Caco-2(ATCCj cell line.Methods:Soil sample was cultured and two strains were chosen for morphological and phenotypical characterization.Partial sequences of the 18s rRNA gene and the internal transcribed spacer region ITS of the two isolates were amplified by PCR.Phylogenetic tree construction and analysis of the resulted multiple sequences from the two fugal isolates were also carried out.In vitro anticancer activity of the two strains was done against colon Caco-2 cancer cell line.Reverse transcription — PCR was carried out to detect level of expression of p53 in Caco-2 cell line.Results:HF.I displayed morphological and genotypic characteristics most similar to that of Fusarium solani while HF.2 was most similar to Emericella nidulans with high similarity of 99%and 97%respectively.The multiple sequence alignment of the two fungal isolates showed that,the maximum identical conserved domains in the 18s rRNA genes were identified with the nucleotide regions of Slst to 399th base pairs,88th to 525th base pairs respectively.While those in the ITS genes were identified with the nucleotide regions of 88th to 463rd and Slst to 274th.The two isolates showed IC<sub>50 value with(6.24±5.21) and(9.84±0.36) μ g/mL) concentrations respectively at 28h.Reverse transcription- PCR indicated that these cells showed high level of expression for p53 mRNA.Conclusions:The morphology and molecular analysis identified HF.1 and HF.2 to be Fusarium solani and Emericella nidulans;new isolates of anticancer producing fungi from Wady El-Natroon city in Egypt.Treatment with the two isolates caused P53 expression in Caco-2 cell line.These two isolates can be used as an anticancer agents.Hala F Mohamed 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,11:3
10Association of vitamin D receptor gene polymorphism(VDR)with vitamin D deficiency,metabolic and inflammatory markers in Egyptian obese women显示文摘Vitamin D deficiency might contribute to the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome and could cause immune disturbance.The aim of this study is to analyze the associations between Vitamin D receptor(VDR)gene polymorphism,serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D,metabolic and inflammatory biomarkers in Egyptian obese women.The study included 201 obese women with vitamin D deficiency and 249 obese matched age healthy controls with sufficient vitamin D levels.Their age ranged between 25 and 35 years.Inflammatory biomarkers(interleukin-6 and C-reactive protein)and serum 25(OH)D were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Insulin resistance(IR)was determined by the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR).Vitamin D receptor(VDR)gene polymorphisms of FokI,ApaI,and TaqI were studied by PCR using the restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP)technique.Obese women with vitamin D deficiency had significant higher values of inflammatory and metabolic parameters compared to controls.Multivariable-logistic regression showed associations between 25(OH)D deficiency and metabolic components when comparing cases with controls.Moreover,cases carrying polymorphic alleles showed significant lower levels of serum 25(OH)D and higher HOMA-IR,blood pressure levels and lipid parameters compared to those with the wild type homozygote in obese cases with vitamin D deficiency.Vitamin D deficiency in Egyptian obese women with vitamin D deficiency is associated with abnormal metabolic components and abnormal inflammatory biomarkers.Moreover,VDR polymorphisms play important role in immune and inflammation status.Moushira Zaki Sanaa Kamal Walaa ABasha Eman Youness Wafaa Ezzat Hala El-Bassyouni Khalda Amr 2017Genes & Diseases2017,4,3:3
11Exploitation of Gene Expression and Cancer Biomarkers in Paving the Path to Era of Personalized Medicine显示文摘Cancer therapy agents have been used extensively as cytotoxic drugs against tissue or organ of a specific type of cancer. With the better understanding of molecular mechanisms underlying carcinogenesis and cellular events during cancer progression and metastasis, it is now possible to use targeted therapy for these molecular events. Targeted therapy is able to identify cancer patients with dissimilar genetic defects at cellular level for the same cancer type and consequently requires individualized approach for treatment. Cancer therapy begins to shift steadily from the traditional approach of ‘‘one regimen for all patients' to a more individualized approach, through which each patient will be treated specifically according to their specific genetic defects. Personalized medicine accordingly requires identification of indicators or markers that guide in the decision making of such therapy to the chosen patients for more effective therapy. Cancer biomarkers are frequently used in clinical practice for diagnosis and prognosis, as well as identification of responsive patients and prediction of treatment response of cancer patient. The rapid breakthrough and development of microarray and sequencing technologies is probably the main tool for paving the way toward ‘‘individualized biomarker-driven cancer therapy' or ‘‘personalized medicine'. 12Drainage vs. non-drainage after cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis:a retrospective study显示文摘Many surgeons practice prophylactic drainage after cholecystectomy without reliable evidence,this study was conducted to answer the question whether to drain or not to drain after cholecystectomy for acute calculous cholecystitis.A retrospective review of all patients who had cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis in Aseer Central Hospital,Abha,Saudi Arabia,was conducted from April 2010 to April 2012.Data were extracted from hospital case files.Preoperative data included clinical presentation,routine investigations and liver function tests.Operative data included excessive adhesions,bleeding,bile leak,and drain insertion.Complicated cases such as pericholecystic collections,mucocele and empyema were also reported.Patients who needed therapeutic drainage were excluded.Postoperative data included hospital stay,volume of drained fluid,time of drain removal,and drain site problems.The study included 103 patients allocated into two groups;group A(n = 38) for patients with operative drain insertion and group B(n = 65) for patients without drain insertion.The number of patients with preoperative diagnosis of acute non-complicated cholecystitis was significantly greater in group B(80%) than group A(36.8%)(P < 0.001).Operative time was significantly longer in group A.All patients who were converted from laparoscopic to open cholecystectomy were in group A.Multivariate analysis revealed that hospital stay was significantly(P < 0.001) longer in patients with preoperative complications.There was no added benefit for prophylactic drain insertion after cholecystectomy for acute calculous cholecystitis in non-complicated or in complicated cases.Mohammed A Bawahab Walid M Abd El Maksoud Saeed A Alsareii Fahad S Al Amri Hala F Ali Abdul Rahman Nimeri Abdul Rahman M Al Amri Adel A Assiri Mohammed I Abdul Aziz 2014The Journal of Biomedical Research2014,28,3:3
13Green synthesis of iron oxide(Fe_3O_4)nanoparticles using two selected brown seaweeds:Characterization and application for lead bioremediation显示文摘The exploitation of different plant materials for the biosynthesis of nanoparticles is considered a green technology because it does not involve any harmful chemicals. In this study, iron oxide nanoparticles(Fe_3O_4-NPs) were synthesized using a completely green biosynthetic method by reduction of ferric chloride solution using brown seaweed water extracts. The two seaweeds Padina pavonica(Linnaeus) Thivy and Sargassum acinarium(Linnaeus) Setchell 1933 were used in this study. The algae extract was used as a reductant of Fe Cl_3 resulting in the phytosynthesis of Fe_3O_4-NPs. The phytogenic Fe_3O_4-NPs were characterized by surface plasmon band observed close to 402 nm and 415 nm; the obtained Fe_3O_4-NPs are in the particle sizes ranged from 10 to 19.5 nm and 21.6 to 27.4 nm for P. pavonica and S. acinarium, respectively. The strong signals of iron were reported in their corresponding EDX spectra. FTIR analyses revealed that sulphated polysaccharides are the main biomolecules in the algae extracts that do dual function of reducing the Fe Cl_3 and stabilizing the phytogenic Fe_3O_4-NPs. The biosynthesized Fe_3O_4-NPs were entrapped in calcium alginates beads and used in Pb adsorption experiments. The biosynthesized Fe_3O_4-NPs alginate beads via P. pavonica(Linnaeus) Thivy had high capacity for bioremoval of Pb(91%) while that of S. acinarium(Linnaeus) Setchell 1933 had a capacity of(78%) after 75 min.The values of the process parameters for the maximum Pb removal efficiency by Fe_3O_4-NPs alginate beads synthesized via P. pavonica(Linnaeus) Thivy were also estimated.EL-KASSAS Hala Y. 14Consensus statement on the epidemiology,diagnosis,prevention,and management of cow's milk protein allergy in the Middle East:a modified Delphi-based study显示文摘Background This study aimed to develop an expert consensus regarding the epidemiology,diagnosis,and management of cow’s milk protein allergy(CMPA)in the Middle East.Methods A three-step modified Delphi method was utilized to develop the consensus.Fifteen specialized pediatricians participated in the development of this consensus.Each statement was considered a consensus if it achieved an agreement level of>80%.Results The experts agreed that the double-blind placebo-controlled oral challenge test(OCT)should be performed for 2-A weeks using an amino acid formula(AAF)in formula-fed infants or children with suspected CMPA.Formula-fed infants with confirmed CMPA should be offered a therapeutic formula.The panel stated that an extensively hydrolyzed formula(eHF)is indicated in the absence of red flag signs.At the same time,the AAF is offered for infants with red flag signs,such as severe anaphylactic reactions.The panel agreed that infants on an eHF with resolved symptoms within 2-4 weeks should continue the eHF with particular attention to the growth and nutritional status.On the other hand,an AAF should be considered for infants with persistent symptoms;the AAF should be continued if the symptoms resolve within 2-4 weeks,with particular attention to the growth and nutritional status.In cases with no symptomatic improvements after the introduction of an AAF.other measures should be followed.The panel developed a management algorithm,which achieved an agreement level of 90.9%.Conclusion This consensus document combined the best available evidence and clinical experience to optimize the management of CMPA in the Middle East.Moustafa A.El-Hodhod Mortada H.F.El-Shabrawi Ahmed AIBadi Ahmed Hussein AM Almehaidib Basil Nasrallah Ebtsam Mohammed AIBassam Hala El Feghali Hasan M.Isa Khaled Al Saraf Maroun Sokhn Mehdi Adeli Najwa Mohammed Mousa Al-Sawi Pierre Hage Suleiman Al-Hammadi 2021World Journal of Pediatrics2021,17,6:3
15Prevalence and factors associated with irritable bowel syndrome among university students in Lebanon:Findings from a cross-sectional study显示文摘AIM: To describe the bowel habits and the prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) and to investigate the influence of health behavior and social factors on IBS prevalence in university students. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted at five major universities in Greater Beirut and its suburbs, between February and June 2014. Using a convenience sample, a total of 813 students aged 18 years old and above participated in this study. Participants were asked to complete a comprehensive anonymous questionnaire which detailed characteristics on socio-demographic, health-related, and lifestyle factors, as well as IBS. The ROME Ⅲ criteria were used as a tool to ascertain IBS. A χ2 test was used to determine differences between categorical variables; stepwise logistic regression was used to measure the association between IBS and its risk factors.RESULTS: An overall prevalence of IBS of 20% was recorded among university students. The bivariate analysis showed that females were significantly more likely to report having IBS than males(29.1% vs 18.2%, P < 0.01). Those living at the school dormitory or in a private residence(39.5%) were more likely to have IBS than those living with their families(16.3%)(P < 0.01). The multivariate analysis showed that those who had a relatively high family income level(US$ > 2000) were almost 6 times more likely to report havingIBS than their counterparts.CONCLUSION: This is the first study to describe the nature of IBS among young adults in Lebanon. 16Validated stability indicating methods for determination of nitazoxanide in presence of its degradation products显示文摘Three sensitive,selective and reproducible stability-indicating methods are presented for determination of nitazoxanide (NTZ),a new anti-protozoal drug,in presence of its degradation products.Method A utilizes the first derivative of ratio spectra spectrophotometry by measurement of the amplitude at 364.4 nm using one of the degradation products as a divisor.Method B is a chemometric-assisted spectrophotometry,where principal component regression (PCR) and partial least squares (PLS) were applied.These two approaches were successfully applied to quantify NTZ in presence of degradation products using the information included in the absorption spectra in the range 260-360 nm.Method C is based on the separation of NTZ from its degradation products followed by densitometric measurement of the bands at 254 nm.The separation was carried out on silica gel 60F 254,using chloroform-methanol-ammonia solution-glacial acetic acid (95:5:1:1 by volume,pH=5.80) as a developing system.These methods are suitable as stability-indicating methods for the determination of NTZ in presence of its degradation products either in bulk powder or in pharmaceutical formulations.Statistical analysis of the results has been carried out revealing high accuracy and good precision.Nouruddin W.Ali Samah Sayed Abbas Hala El-Sayed Zaazaa Maha Mohamed Abdelrahman Mohamed Abdelkawy 2012Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2012,2,2:3
17Endoscopic ear surgery: A case series and first United Kingdom experience显示文摘AIM: To present the United Kingdom's first case series of 70 otological cases of endoscopic and non-endoscopic ear surgeries.METHODS: Prospective case series incorporating a range of endoscopic procedures performed using a 4 mm, 18 cm rigid endoscope, performed by a single surgeon at a single centre. Primary outcome measures included mean average pre and post-operative air-bone gap hearing thresholds and duration of surgery.RESULTS: Thirty-eight patients underwent endoscopic assisted ear surgery and 32 underwent non-endoscopic assisted ear surgery. In both surgical groups, there was a significant difference between pre and post-operative mean air-bone gaps(P = 0.02). Mean operating time was comparable between both groups. Eight patients developed post-operative complications.CONCLUSION: Endoscopic ear surgery can be performed safely in a range of otological procedures. This has the potential to become a well-established surgical option for middle ear surgery in the near future. 18血糖控制良好的2型糖尿病患者血清VEGF-A及其受体VEGFR1和VEGFR2含量检测(英文)显示文摘研究目的:探讨血糖控制良好的2型糖尿病患者血管内皮生长因子-A(VEGF-A)及其受体VEGFR1和VEGFR2含量及其临床意义。研究方法:本文以31例血糖得到良好控制且没有明显大血管或微血管病变的2型糖尿病患者作为研究对象(实验组),30位健康志愿者为对照组,同期检测患者及健康志愿者的空腹血糖、血脂、糖化血红蛋白水平,及血清VEGF-A、VEGFR1和VEGFR2含量,并加以比较和统计学分析。重要结论:研究结果表明,血糖控制良好的2型糖尿病患者血清中的VEGF-A及其受体VEGFR1和VEGFR2的含量和健康志愿者基本一致,两者无统计学意义,这可能显示血糖水平的合理控制能延缓血管并发症的产生。同时,2型糖尿病患者的血清VEGFR2含量和高密度脂蛋白胆固醇水平之间存在负相关,而血清VEGF-A、VEGFR2含量和甘油三脂水平之间存在正相关,这也表明糖尿病患者的血脂紊乱可能参与了血管生成的调节。Barbara RUSZKOWSKA-CIASTEK Alina SOKUP Maciej W.
