3Remodeling of the osteoimmune microenvironment after biomaterials implantation in murine tibia: Single-cell transcriptome analysis显示文摘Osseointegration seems to be a foreign body reaction equilibrium due to the complicated interactions between the immune and skeletal systems.The heterogeneity of the osteoimmune microenvironment in the osseointegration of implant materials remains elusive.Here,a single-cell study involving 40043 cells is conducted,and a total of 10 distinct cell clusters are identified from five different groups.A preliminary description of the osteoimmune microenvironment revealed the diverse cellular heterogeneity and dynamic changes modulated by implant properties.The increased immature neutrophils,Ly6C+CCR2hi monocytes,and S100a8hi macrophages induce an aggressive inflammatory response and eventually lead to the formation of fibrous capsule around the stainless steel implant.The enrichment of mature neutrophils,FcgR1hi and differentiated immunomodulatory macrophages around the titanium implant indicates favorable osseointegration under moderate immune response.Neutrophil-depletion mice are conducted to explore the role of neutrophils in osseointegration.Neutrophils may improve bone formation by enhancing the recruitment of BMSCs via the CXCL12/CXCR3 signal axis.These findings contribute to a better knowledge of osteoimmunology and are valuable for the design and modification of‘osteoimmune-smart’biomaterials in the bone regeneration field.Jia Li Congrui Zhao Yangbo Xu Lu Song Yanqi Chen Yuzi Xu Yang Ma Siyuan Wang Antian Xu Fuming He 2023Bioactive Materials2023,,4:0
4Characteristics and close-range exploration methods of near- Earth asteroid 2016HO_(3)显示文摘The characteristics of asteroids are vital parameters for planning asteroid exploration missions.These characteristics have been explored in close range for some typical asteroids,and are summarized in the article.This allows estimates of the characteristics of asteroid 2016HO_(3),the target of the first Chinese asteroid exploration mission,Tianwen 2.We obtain 80 characteristic parameters in 9 categories and analyze their impacts on the mission.By comparing three close-range exploration modes,we provide advantages and disadvantages of each,and propose suitable methods for the exploration of 2016HO_(3).Owing to the weak gravity and small size of 2016HO_(3),a combination of multiple hovering positions and active orbiting is recommended for scientific exploration.He Zhang Fei Li Linzhi Meng Fuming Zeng Xiaoyu Jia Yu’ang Liu 2024Astronomical Techniques and Instruments2024,1,1:0
5Mechanical Behavior of Bamboo,and Its Biomimetic Composites and Structural Members:A Systematic Review显示文摘Bamboo is a typical biological material widely growing in nature with excellent physical and mechanical properties.It is lightweight with high strength and toughness.The naturally optimized bamboo structure,which has inspired global material scientists and engineers for decades,is significantly important for the bionic design of novel structural materials with ultra-light,ultra-strong,or ultra-tough and comprehensive properties.Typical literature on innovative composite materials and structural members inspired by bamboo are reviewed in this paper,and the research progress and prospects in this field are expounded in three parts.First,the structural characteristics of the bamboo wall layer along the thickness and height directions are described in terms of chemical composition,gradient structure,pore structure,and hollow structure with variable cross-section.Second,this paper summarizes the research progress on new composite materials and structural components by applying bamboo’s structural features from the perspective of sustainability,designability,and customization.Finally,given the limitations of current research,the biomimetic scientific research on bamboo’s structural characteristics is prospected from the interpretation of bamboo structure,new bamboo-like materials,and structural design optimization perspectives,providing a reference for future research on biomimetic aspects of biomass.Shanyu Han Yuyuan He Hanzhou Ye Xueyong Ren Fuming Chen Kewei Liu Sheldon Q.Shi Ge Wang 2024Journal of Bionic Engineering2024,21,1:0
6Nano-imaging agents for brain diseases: Environmentally responsive imaging and therapy显示文摘Precise imaging is essential for the accurate diagnosis and surgical guidance of brain diseases but it is challenging due to the difficulties in crossing the blood-brain barrier(BBB),the difficulties in disease lesion targeting,and the limited contrast in the brain environment.Nano-imaging agents were characterized by functionalized modifications,high contrast,small size,and high biocompatibility,thus providing advantages in BBB crossing,brain targeting,imaging resolution,and real-time monitoring,holding great potential in brain disease imaging.Specific characteristics in brain environment and brain diseases(e.g.,marker proteins on the BBB,the pathogenic proteins in the neurodegenerative diseases or brain tumors,and the tumor and inflammatory microenvironment)provide opportunities for the functionalized nano-imaging agents to improve BBB crossing and disease targeting.Moreover,the versatile nano-imaging agents are endowed with therapeutic agents to facilitate the theranostics of brain diseases.Here,we summarized the common materials and imaging techniques of nano-imaging agents and their imaging treatment applications.We discussed their BBB penetration,environmental response for disease targeting,and therapeutic effects.We also provided insights on the advantages,challenges,and application of nano-imaging agents in detecting and treating brain diseases such as neurodegenerative diseases,brain tumors,stroke,and traumatic brain injury.These discussions will help develop nano-imaging agents-based theranostic platforms for the precise diagnosis and treatment of brain diseases.Fuming Liang Qing You Xiaopeng Ma Huayi Wang Chen Wang Zhaohui He Yanlian Yang Ling Zhu 2023Nano Research2023,16,12:0
7The role of dendritic cells in the immunomodulation to implanted biomaterials显示文摘Considering the substantial role played by dendritic cells(DCs) in the immune system to bridge innate and adaptive immunity,studies on DC-mediated immunity toward biomaterials principally center on their adjuvant effects in facilitating the adaptive immunity of codelivered antigens. However, the effect of the intrinsic properties of biomaterials on dendritic cells has not been clarified. Recently, researchers have begun to investigate and found that biomaterials that are nonadjuvant could also regulate the immune function of DCs and thus affect subsequent tissue regeneration. In the case of proteins adsorbed onto biomaterial surfaces,their intrinsic properties can direct their orientation and conformation, forming “biomaterial-associated molecular patterns(BAMPs)”. Thus, in this review, we focused on the intrinsic physiochemical properties of biomaterials in the absence of antigens that affect DC immune function and summarized the underlying signaling pathways. Moreover, we preliminarily clarified the specific composition of BAMPs and the interplay between some key molecules and DCs, such as heat shock proteins(HSPs) and high mobility group box 1(HMGB1). 8Nanomaterials for visualized tumor surgical navigation and postoperative recurrence inhibition显示文摘Preoperative localization of the tumor sites and intraoperative real-time monitoring are essential for precise surgery but are meanwhile challenging due to the lack of high-resolution,easy-to-operate,and fast visualization techniques.On the other hand,tumor recurrence and metastasis after surgery greatly reduce the survival rate of patients.Intervening tumor recurrence during surgery is a future direction of tumor treatment.Nanomaterials with external condition responsiveness(light,ultrasound,and magnetic field)can accurately assist intraoperative detection and surgical resection due to their functions such as tumor cell targeting,fluorescence imaging,and real time monitoring,providing a more accurate,shorter duration,and visualization method of surgical resection.Moreover,nanomaterials are versatile and can easily be tailored for application in different tumors.Locally filled or systemically circulating nanomaterials with slow drug release and residual tumor cell-targeting ability have promising applications in inhibiting tumor recurrence.Here,we review surgical navigation and postoperative recurrence interventional nanomaterials and their landscape in guiding tumor treatment.We summarize the classification and characteristics of these nanomaterials and discuss their application in the surgical navigation and recurrence inhibition of different tumors.We also provide an outlook on the challenges and future development of nanomaterials for visualized tumor surgical navigation and postoperative recurrence inhibition.Fuming Liang Qing You Hongjiang Ye Wenqiao Fu Xiaopeng Ma Jiahe Tan Yinrui Ma Chen Wang Yanlian Yang Zhaohui He Ling Zhu 2023Nano Research2023,16,12:0
