5H pylori infection causes chronic pancreatitis in Mongolian gerbils显示文摘AIM: To investigate whether chronic H pylori infection has the potential to induce pancreatitis in the Mongolian gerbil model, and whether it is dependent on an intact type Ⅳ secretion system. METHODS: Mongolian gerbils were infected with wild type (WT) H pylori typeⅠstrain B128 or its isogenic mutant B128 ?cagY (defective type Ⅳ secretion). After seven months of infection, H pylori was reisolated from antrum and corpus and H pylori DNA was analyzed by semi- nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Inflammation and histological changes were documented in the gastric antrum, corpus, and pancreas by immunohistochemistry. Cytokine mRNA, gastric pH, plasma gastrin, amylase, lipase, and glucose levels were determined. RESULTS: The H pylori infection rate was 95%. Eight infected animals, but none of the uninfected group, developed transmural inflammation and chronic pancreatitis. Extensive interstitial fibrosis and inflammation of the pancreatic lobe adjacent to the antrum was confirmed by trichrome stain, and immuno- histochemically. Pro-inflammatory cytokine mRNA was significantly increased in the antral mucosa of all infected gerbils. In the corpus, only cytokine levels of WT-infected animals and those developing transmural inflammation and pancreatitis were significantly increased. Levels of lipase, but not glucose or amylase levels, were significantly reduced in the pancreatitis group. H pylori DNA was detected in infected antral and corpus tissue,but not in the pancreas. 81 Gbps free-space deep-ultraviolet communications based on Ⅲ-nitride micro-LEDs emitting at 262 nm显示文摘The low modulation bandwidth of deep-ultraviolet(UV) light sources is considered as the main reason limiting the data transmission rate of deep-UV communications. Here, we present high-bandwidth Ⅲ-nitride microlight-emitting diodes(μLEDs) emitting in the UV-C region and their applications in deep-UV communication systems. The fabricated UV-C μLEDs with 566 μm2 emission area produce an optical power of 196 μW at the 3400 A∕cm2 current density. The measured 3 dB modulation bandwidth of these μLEDs initially increases linearly with the driving current density and then saturates as 438 MHz at a current density of 71 A∕cm2, which is limited by the cutoff frequency of the commercial avalanche photodiode used for the measurement. A deep-UV communication system is further demonstrated. 9Review of 500 single incision laparoscopic colorectalsurgery cases-Lessons learned显示文摘Single incision laparoscopic surgery(SILS) is a minimally invasive platform with specific benefits over traditional multiport laparoscopic surgery. The safety and feasibility of SILS has been proven, and the applications continue to grow with experience. After 500 cases at a high-volume, single-institution, we were able to standardize instrumentation and operative steps, as well as develop adaptations in technique to help overcome technical and ergonomic challenges. These technical adaptations have allowed the successful application of SILS to technically difficult patient populations, such as pelvic cases, inflammatory bowel disease cases, and high body mass index patients. 10Review of single incision laparoscopic surgery in colorectal surgery显示文摘As surgical techniques continue to move towards less invasive techniques,single incision laparoscopic surgery(SILS),a hybrid between traditional multiport laparoscopy and natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery,was introduced to further the enhanced outcomes of multiport laparoscopy. The safety and feasibility of SILS for both benign and malignant colorectal disease has been proven. SILS provides the potential for improved cosmesis,postoperative pain,recovery time,and quality of life at the drawback of higher technical skill required. 13Premotor biomarkers for Parkinson's disease-a promising direction of research显示文摘The second most serious neurodegenerative disease is Parkinson’s disease(PD).Over the past several decades,a strong body of evidence suggests that PD can begin years before the hallmark clinical motor symptoms appear.Biomarkers for PD are urgently needed to differentiate between neurodegenerative disorders,screen novel therapeutics,and predict eventual clinical PD before the onset of symptoms.Some clinical evaluations and neuroimaging techniques have been developed in the last several years with some success in this area.Moreover,other strategies have been utilized to identify biochemical and genetic markers associated with PD leading to the examination of PD progression and pathogenesis in cerebrospinal fluid,blood,or saliva.Finally,interesting results are surfacing from preliminary studies using known PD-associated genetic mutations to assess potential premotor PD biomarkers.The current review highlights recent advances and underscores areas of potential advancement.Brian R Haas Tessandra H Stewart Jing Zhang 2012Translational Neurodegeneration2012,1,1:5
14Enhanced expression of interleukin-18 in serum and pancreas of patients with chronic pancreatitis显示文摘AIM: To investigate interleukin-18 (IL-18) in patients with chronic panreatitis (CP). METHODS: We studied 29 patients with CP and 30 healthy controls. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) were isolated and incubated with 50 mmol/L ethanol, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) (doses 25 g/L, 250 g/L, 2500 g/L) and both agents for 24 h. Levels of IL-18 in the supernatants, and levels of IL-18, IL-12, interferon (IFN)-γ and soluble CD14 in the serum were analysed by ELISA technique. Expression of IL-18 in PBMC was investigated by reverse-transcription (RT)-PCR. IL-18 protein levels in CP tissue and in normal pancreas were studied by ELISA technique. IL-18 levels in PBMC and pancreatic tissue were determined by Westernblot. Im-munohistochemistry for pancreatic IL-18 expression was performed. RESULTS: In patients, IL-18 serum levels were signifi-cantly enhanced by 76% (mean: 289.9 ± 167.7 ng/L) compared with controls (mean: 165.2 ± 43.6 ng/L; P < 0.0005). IL-12 levels were enhanced by 25% in patients (18.3 ± 7.3 ng/L) compared with controls (14.7 ± 6.8ng/L, P = 0.0576) although not reaching the statistical significance. IFN-γ and soluble CD14 levels were not in-creased. In vitro, LPS stimulated significantly and dose-dependently IL-18 secretion from PBMC. Incubation with ethanol reduced LPS-stimulated IL-18 secretion by about 50%. The mRNA expression of IL-18 in PBMC and the response of PBMC to ethanol and LPS was similar in CP patients and controls. In PBMC, no significant differences in IL-18 protein levels were detected between patients and controls. IL-18 protein levels were increased in CP tissues compared to normal pancreatic tissues. IL-18 was expressed by pancreatic acinar cells and by infiltrating inflammatory cells within the pancreas. 16Analysis on the crystals of sea ice cores derived from Weddell Sea,Antarctica显示文摘In order to understand the sea ice types and its region of origin frozen in Weddell Sea,27 ice cores were taken from Weddell Sea,Antarctica during September and October,2006.Their crystals were analyzed,and their ice forming processes were evaluated based on the crystals.Photos of the thin sections from two whole ice cores,and from polygonal granular superimposed ice were taken as well as corresponding stratigraphy descriptions.Vertical profiles of salinity, density and grain size were also obtained.Based on ice core structural texture,the findings include that: 1) although large and smooth ice floes were selected as the investigation sites, the ice sheet at the sampling position may be formed by rafted ice,consolidated ice ridges and second-year ice which were affected by dynamic and thermodynamic processes together subsequently.Ice formed in pure thermal growth comprises minority.The polygonal granular superimposed ice from refrozen wetted dense snow is one type of the ice in Antarctica.2) Of the all 27 ice cores,the granular,mixed granular-columnar and columnar crystals in sea ice occupy 28.7%,14.4% and 55.2%,respectively.3) The pure thermal growth ice is predominant in marginal sea ice zone;the rafted ice and consolidated ice ridges,even second-year ice and polygonal granular superimposed ice from dynamic and thermal effects were found in front of Larsen A Ice Shelf;the thermal growth ice froze in the polynyas of Larsen A,and was transferred outwards.李志军 Nicolaus Marcel Toyota Takenobu Haas Christian 2010Chinese Journal of Polar Science2010,21,1:4
