| 1 | Molecular approach to genetic and epigenetic pathogenesis of early-onset colorectal cancer显示文摘Colorectal cancer(CRC) is the third most frequent cancer type and the incidence of this disease is increasing gradually per year in individuals younger than 50 years old. The current knowledge is that early-onset CRC(EOCRC) cases are heterogeneous population that includes both hereditary and sporadic forms of the CRC. Although EOCRC cases have some distinguishing clinical and pathological features than elder age CRC, the molecular mechanism underlying the EOCRC is poorly clarified. Given the significance of CRC in the world of medicine, the present review will focus on the recent knowledge in the molecular basis of genetic and epigenetic mechanism of the hereditary forms of EOCRC, which includes Lynch syndrome, Familial CRC type X, Familial adenomatous polyposis, Mut YH-associated polyposis, Juvenile polyposis syndrome, Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome and sporadic forms of EOCRC. Recent findings about molecular genetics and epigenetic basis of EOCRC gave rise to new alternative therapy protocols. | 2 | Effects of glutamine and curcumin on bacterial translocation in jaundiced rats显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effect of curcumin on bacterial translocation and oxidative damage in an obstructive jaundice model and compare the results to glutamine, an agent known to be effective and clinically used. METHODS: Twenty-four female Wistar-Albino rats, weighing 200-250 g, were randomly divided into three groups (8 in each group). After ligation of the common bile duct in all animals, GroupⅠ received oral normal saline, Group Ⅱ received oral glutamine and Group Ⅲ received oral curcumin for seven days. Blood samples via cardiac puncture, tissue samples (terminal ileum, liver and mesenteric lymph node) and peritoneal fluid were obtained from the animals at the time of death to investigate bacterial translocation and oxidative damage. RESULTS: We observed that both glutamine and curcumin reduced bacterial translocation in blood, hepatocellular damage, plasma cytokine levels, oxidative tissue damage and apoptosis significantly compared to the control group. Additionally, glutamine showed protective effects on ileal epithelium and reduced villus atrophy. | 3 | IL-2 and IL-15 Exhibit Opposing Effects on Fas Mediated Apoptosis显示文摘It has been shown that IL-2 and IL-15 can have opposing effects on life and death of T cells. However, the role of IL-2 and IL-15 in regulating the fate of other cell types is less clear. In the present study, we examined the impact of IL-2 and IL-15 on life and death of pre-B cells using the BAF-B03 line. We showed that BAF-B03 cells constitutively expressed the private IL-2Rα chain and IL-15Rα chain, and the shared IL-2Rβ chain and γc chain. Stimulation of BAF-B03 cells in vitro with IL-2 and IL-15 induced vigorous cell proliferation in a dose-dependent fashion. Titration of IL-2 and IL-15 in the assay showed that the mitotic effects of IL-2 and IL-15 were remarkably similar, Howerer, the sensitivities of BAF-B03 cells to Fas mediated apoptosis after IL-2 and IL-15 stimulation were strikingly different. Cells cultured in IL-2 readily underwent apoptotic cell deathupon cross-linking of the Fas receptor whereas cells cultured in IL-15 were extremely resistant to Fas triggered cell death. The anti-apoptotic effect of IL-15 in this model was associated with increased expression of Bcl-xL. FLIP expression, however, was comparable between IL-2 and IL-15 stimulated cells. | 4 | Efficient adsorption of Th(Ⅳ)from aqueous solution by modified SBA-15 mesoporous silica显示文摘A very effective adsorbent for thorium has been obtained by modification of Santa Barbara Amorphous(SBA-15) using the chelating agent thenoyltrifluoroacetone(TTA).The prepared adsorbent(SBA-15-TTA) was characterized using scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),surface area,porosity,and zeta potential analyses.We investigated the factors affecting Th(IV) adsorption on TTA-SBA-15,such as initial p H,contact time,temperature,and initial metal concentration.The effective initial p H for adsorption was found to be 4.The binding sites on TTA-SBA-15 adsorbent were saturated using an initial Th(IV) concentration of 100 mg L-1.The Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm suggested a strong chemical interaction between adsorbent and adsorbate.Contact time and temperature had no significant effect on the adsorption.Therefore,the studies show that TTA-SBA-15 is a promising adsorbent to treat Th(IV)-contaminated effluents. | Mutlu Gok Senol Sert Gulcin Ozevci Meral Eral | 2018 | Nuclear Science and Techniques2018,29,7: | 3 |

| 19 | Psoriatic fasciitis in a pediatric patient: A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Diffuse fasciitis with psoriatic arthritis on magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) has not been previously described in childhood. Here we present the first case report of a pediatric patient developing fasciitis, beyond plantar fasciitis, with psoriatic arthritis.CASE SUMMARY An 11-year-old female was admitted with the complaints of psoriatic rash on the body associated with severe pain in the lower extremities and arthritis in the right knee. Psoriasis was confirmed by skin biopsy, she diagnosed with juvenile psoriatic arthritis. Diagnostic tests did not indicate any pathology except MRI.MRI of the femur and tibia revealed that high-signal inflammatory changes in the subdermal fascia. These findings led to a diagnosis of psoriatic fasciitis.Methotrexate was given for 3 mo but the patient showed no response to therapy;therefore, etanercept was added. However, there was no response to treatment.Etanercept was switched to adalimumab at the sixth month of therapy. Clinical improvement started with therapy of adalimumab within one month. Fasciitis finding in MRI disappeared at seventh months on adalimumab therapy.
