| 1 | A modified failure criterion for transversely isotropic rocks显示文摘A modified failure criterion is proposed to determine the strength of transversely isotropic rocks. Mechanical properties of some metamorphic and sedimentary rocks including gneiss, slate, marble, schist,shale, sandstone and limestone, which show transversely isotropic behavior, were taken into consideration. Afterward, introduced triaxial rock strength criterion was modified for transversely isotropic rocks.Through modification process an index was obtained that can be considered as a strength reduction parameter due to rock strength anisotropy. Comparison of the parameter with previous anisotropy indexes in literature showed reasonable results for the studied rock samples. The modified criterion was compared to modified Hoek-Brown and Ramamurthy criteria for different transversely isotropic rocks. | 2 | Protective effect of essential oil of Pistacia atlantica Desf. on peptic ulcer: role of α-pinene显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of Pistacia atlantica Desf. oleoresin essential oil on peptic ulcer(PU) and its antibacterial effect on metronidazole-resistant Helicobacter pylori, as well as chemi-cal composition of the essential oil.METHODS: The essential oil was standardized using gas chromatography mass spectrometry(GC/MS) analysis. Acute toxicity of the essential oil was assessed in animal model. In vitro anti-Helicobacter pylori activity was performed through disc diffusion and minimum inhibitory concentration method. For gastroprotective assay, rats received Pistacia atlantica Desf. essential oil(25, 50 and 100 mg/kg orally) 1 h before induction of ulcer by ethanol.Macroscopic(ulcer index and protection rate) and microscopic examination were performed.RESULTS: The GC/MS analysis of the essential oil led to the identification of twenty constituents andα-pinene is predominant constituent. The essential oil was safe up to 2000 mg/kg. All Helicobacter pylori strains were susceptible to the essential oil and the MIC ranged from 275 to 1100 μg/m L. The ulcer index for treated groups was significantly reduced compared to control(P < 0.001) with EC50 value of 12.32 mg/kg. | 10 | Groundwater quality modeling using self-organizing map(SOM) and geographic information system(GIS) on the Caspian southern coasts显示文摘Groundwater is the main source for water provision in the arid and semi-arid areas such as Iran.The groundwater quality was simulated by using a hybrid model integrating a Self-Organizing Map(SOM)and geographic information system(GIS).SOM and GIS were used as pre-processing and postprocessing tools in the Mazandaran Plain.Further,the Ground Water Quality Index(GWQI)and its effective factors were estimated by using digital maps and the secondary data.Neuro Solutions software was used for simulating the groundwater quality.To do this,a model was trained and optimized in the SOM and then the optimized model was tested.In the next step,the performance of SOM in groundwater quality simulation was confirmed(test stage,Rsqr=0.8,and MSE=0.008).Then,the digital maps of the SOM inputs were converted to raster format in GIS.In the last step,a raster layer was generated by combining the model input layers which comprised the model inputs values.The tested SOM was used to simulate GWQI in the sites without the secondary data of the groundwater quality.Finally,the groundwater quality map was generated by coupling the results of SOM estimations and GIS capabilities.The results revealed that the coupling of SOM and GIS has high performance in the simulation of the groundwater quality.According to the results,a limited area of the studied plain has groundwater resources with low quality(GWQI>0.04).Therefore,that will be a threat to the life of humans,animals,and vegetative species.Therefore,it is necessary to plan for managing the groundwater quality in the Mazandaran plain. | Vahid GHOLAMI Mohammad Reza KHALEGHI Edris TAGHVAYE SALIMI | 2020 | Journal of Mountain Science2020,17,7: | 2 |
| 11 | Parametric study on smoothed particle hydrodynamics for accurate determination of drag coefficient for a circular cylinder显示文摘Simulations of two-dimensional(2D) flow past a circular cylinder with the smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH) method were conducted in order to accurately determine the drag coefficient. The fluid was modeled as a viscous liquid with weak compressibility. Boundary conditions,such as a no-slip solid wall, inflow and outflow, and periodic boundaries, were employed to resemble the physical problem. A sensitivity analysis, which has been rarely addressed in previous studies, was conducted on several SPH parameters. Hence, the effects of distinct parameters, such as the kernel choices and the domain dimensions, were investigated with the goal of obtaining highly accurate results. A range of Reynolds numbers(1-500) was simulated, and the results were compared with existing experimental data. It was observed that the domain dimensions and the resolution of SPH particles, in comparison to the obstacle size, affected the obtained drag coefficient significantly. | 15 | Soil-Structure Interaction Analysis of Jack-up Platforms Subjected to Monochrome and Irregular Waves显示文摘As jack-up platforms have recently been used in deeper and harsher waters,there has been an increasing demand to understand their behaviour more accurately to develop more sophisticated analysis techniques.One of the areas of significant development has been the modelling of spudcan performance,where the load-displacement behaviour of the foundation is required to be included in any numerical model of the structure.In this study,beam on nonlinear winkler foundation(BNWF) modeling—which is based on using nonlinear springs and dampers instead of a continuum soil media—is employed for this purpose.A regular monochrome design wave and an irregular wave representing a design sea state are applied to the platform as lateral loading.By using the BNWF model and assuming a granular soil under spudcans,properties such as soil nonlinear behaviour near the structure,contact phenomena at the interface of soil and spudcan(such as uplifting and rocking),and geometrical nonlinear behaviour of the structure are studied.Results of this study show that inelastic behaviour of the soil causes an increase in the lateral displacement at the hull elevation and permanent unequal settlement in soil below the spudcans,which are increased by decreasing the friction angle of the sandy soil.In fact,spudcans and the underlying soil cause a relative fixity at the platform support,which changes the dynamic response of the structure compared with the case where the structure is assumed to have a fixed support or pinned support.For simulating this behaviour without explicit modelling of soil-structure interaction(SSI),momentrotation curves at the end of platform legs,which are dependent on foundation dimensions and soil characteristics,are obtained.These curves can be used in a simplified model of the platform for considering the relative fixity at the soilfoundation interface. | Maziar Gholami KORZANI Ali Akbar AGHAKOUCHAK | 2015 | China Ocean Engineering2015,29,1: | 2 |

| 20 | Precipitation forecasting by large-scale climate indices and machine learning techniques显示文摘Global warming is one of the most complicated challenges of our time causing considerable tension on our societies and on the environment.The impacts of global warming are felt unprecedentedly in a wide variety of ways from shifting weather patterns that threatens food production,to rising sea levels that deteriorates the risk of catastrophic flooding.Among all aspects related to global warming,there is a growing concern on water resource management.This field is targeted at preventing future water crisis threatening human beings.The very first stage in such management is to recognize the prospective climate parameters influencing the future water resource conditions.Numerous prediction models,methods and tools,in this case,have been developed and applied so far.In line with trend,the current study intends to compare three optimization algorithms on the platform of a multilayer perceptron(MLP)network to explore any meaningful connection between large-scale climate indices(LSCIs)and precipitation in the capital of Iran,a country which is located in an arid and semi-arid region and suffers from severe water scarcity caused by mismanagement over years and intensified by global warming.This situation has propelled a great deal of population to immigrate towards more developed cities within the country especially towards Tehran.Therefore,the current and future environmental conditions of this city especially its water supply conditions are of great importance.To tackle this complication an outlook for the future precipitation should be provided and appropriate forecasting trajectories compatible with this region's characteristics should be developed.To this end,the present study investigates three training methods namely backpropagation(BP),genetic algorithms(GAs),and particle swarm optimization(PSO)algorithms on a MLP platform.Two frameworks distinguished by their input compositions are denoted in this study:Concurrent Model Framework(CMF)and Integrated Model Framework(IMF).Through these two frameworks,13 cases are generated:12 cases within CMF,each of which contains all selected LSCIs in the same lead-times,and one case within IMF that is constituted from the combination of the most correlated LSCIs with Tehran precipitation in each lead-time.Following the evaluation of all model performances through related statistical tests,Taylor diagram is implemented to make comparison among the final selected models in all three optimization algorithms,the best of which is found to be MLP-PSO in IMF. | Mehdi GHOLAMI ROSTAM Seyyed Javad SADATINEJAD Arash MALEKIAN | 2020 | Journal of Arid Land2020,12,5: | 2 |
