| 1 | Recently duplicated sesterterpene(C25) gene clusters in Arabidopsis thaliana modulate root microbiota显示文摘Land plants co-speciate with a diversity of continually expanding plant specialized metabolites(PSMs) and root microbial communities(microbiota).Homeostatic interactions between plants and root microbiota are essential for plant survival in natural environments.A growing appreciation of microbiota for plant health is fuelling rapid advances in genetic mechanisms of controlling microbiota by host plants.PSMs have long been proposed to mediate plant and single microbe interactions.However,the effects of PSMs,especially those evolutionarily new PSMs,on root microbiota at community level remain to be elucidated.Here,we discovered sesterterpenes in Arabidopsis thaliana,produced by recently duplicated prenyltransferase-terpene synthase(PT-TPS) gene clusters,with neo-functionalization.A single-residue substitution played a critical role in the acquisition of sesterterpene synthase(sesterTPS) activity in Brassicaceae plants.Moreover,we found that the absence of two root-specific sesterterpenoids,with similar chemical structure,significantly affected root microbiota assembly in similar patterns.Our results not only demonstrate the sensitivity of plant microbiota to PSMs but also establish a complete framework of host plants to control root microbiota composition through evolutionarily dynamic PSMs. | Qingwen Chen Ting Jiang Yong-Xin Liu Haili Liu Tao Zhao Zhixi Liu Xiangchao Gan Asis Hallab Xuemei Wang Juan He Yihua Ma Fengxia Zhang Tao Jin M. | 2 | Tetrandrine citrate eliminates imatinib-resistant chronic myeloid leukemia cells in vitro and in vivo by inhibiting Bcr-Abl/β-catenin axis显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the effects of tetrandrine citrate, a novel tetrandrine salt with high water solubility, on the growth of imatinib (IM)-resistant chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in vitro and in vivo, and reveal action molecular mechanisms. Methods:Cell viability in vitro was measured using methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay. CML cell growth in vivo was assessed using a xenograft model in nude mice. Bcr-Abl and β-catenin protein levels were determined using Western blotting. Bcr-Abl messenger RNA (mRNA) was measured by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Flow cytometry (FCM) was used to determine cell cycle status. Results:Tetrandrine citrate inhibited the growth of IM-resistant K562 cells, primary leukemia cells, and primitive CD34 + leukemia cells, and their inhibition concentration that inhibited 50% of target cells (IC 50 ) ranged from 1.20 to 2.97 μg/ml. In contrast, tetrandrine citrate did not affect normal blood cells under the same conditions, and IC 50 values were about 10.12-13.11 μg/ml. Oral administration of tetrandrine citrate caused complete regression of IM-resistant K562 xeno-grafts in nude mice without overt toxicity. Western blot results revealed that treatment of IM-resistant K562 cells with tetrandrine citrate resulted in a significant decrease of both p210 Bcr-Abl and β-catenin proteins, but IM did not affect the Bcr-Abl protein levels. Proteasome inhibitor, MG132, did not prevent tetrandrine-mediated decrease of the p210 Bcr-Abl protein. RT-PCR results showed that tetrandrine treatment caused a decrease of Bcr-Abl mRNA. FCM analysis indicated that tetrandrine induced gap 1 (G 1 ) arrest in CML cells. Conclusions:Tetrandrine citrate is a novel orally active tetrandrine salt with potent anti-tumor activity against IM-resistant K562 cells and CML cells. | 3 | Optimization of Dimples in Microchannel Heat Sink with Impinging Jets Part A: Mathematical Model and the Influence of Dimple Radius显示文摘With increasing heat fluxes caused by electronic components, dimples have attracted wide attention by researchers and have been applied to microchannel heat sink in modern advanced cooling technologies. In this work, the combination of dimples, impinging jets and microchannel heat sink was proposed to improve the heat transfer performance on a cooling surface with a constant heat flux 500 W/cm^2. A mathematical model was advanced for numerically analyzing the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics of a microchannel heat sink with impinging jets and dimples(MHSIJD), and the velocity distribution, pressure drop, and thermal performance of MHSIJD were analyzed by varying the radii of dimples. | 4 | Magnetic plasmon resonances in nanostructured topological insulators for strongly enhanced light-MoS_(2) interactions显示文摘Magnetic resonances not only play crucial roles in artificial magnetic materials but also offer a promising way for light control and interaction with matter.Recently,magnetic resonance effects have attracted special attention in plasmonic systems for overcoming magnetic response saturation at high frequencies and realizing high-performance optical functionalities.As novel states of matter,topological insulators(TIs)present topologically protected conducting surfaces and insulating bulks in a broad optical range,providing new building blocks for plasmonics.However,until now,high-frequency(e.g.visible range)magnetic resonances and related applications have not been demonstrated in TI systems.Herein,we report for the first time,to our knowledge,a kind of visible range magnetic plasmon resonances(MPRs)in TI structures composed of nanofabricated Sb_(2)Te_(3) nanogrooves.The experimental results show that the MPR response can be tailored by adjusting the nanogroove height,width,and pitch,which agrees well with the simulations and theoretical calculations.Moreover,we innovatively integrated monolayer MoS_(2) onto a TI nanostructure and observed strongly reinforced light-MoS_(2) interactions induced by a significant MPR-induced electric field enhancement,remarkable compared with TI-based electric plasmon resonances(EPRs).The MoS_(2) photoluminescence can be flexibly tuned by controlling the incident light polarization.These results enrich TI optical physics and applications in highly efficient optical functionalities as well as artificial magnetic materials at high frequencies. | Hua Lu Zengji Yue Yangwu Li Yinan Zhang Mingwen Zhang Wei Zeng Xuetao Gan Dong Mao Fajun Xiao Ting Mei Weiyao Zhao Xiaolin Wang Min Gu Jianlin Zhao | 2020 | Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1: | 3 |
| 5 | Selective excitation of a three-dimensionally oriented single plasmonic dipole显示文摘We experimentally demonstrate a scheme to deterministically excite a three-dimensionally oriented electric dipole in a single Au nanosphere by using a tightly focused radially polarized beam whose focal field possesses polarization states along three-dimensional(3D) orientations owing to the spatial overlap between longitudinal and radial electric field components. Experiment observations indicate that the orientation of an excited dipole moment gradually changes from out-of-plane to in-plane when the nanosphere is moved away from the beam center, which is reconfirmed by full-wave simulations. Moreover, rigorous calculation based on Mie theory reveals that a reduced effective ambient permittivity accompanies the rotation of the dipole moment, leading to a blue-shifted and narrowed resonance peak. | 6 | Drug repositioning of disulfiram induces endometrioid epithelial ovarian cancer cell death via the both apoptosis and cuproptosis pathways显示文摘Various therapeutic strategies have been developed to overcome ovarian cancer.However,the prognoses resulting from these strategies are still unclear.In the present work,we screened 54 small molecule compounds approved by the FDA to identify novel agents that could inhibit the viability of human epithelial ovarian cancer cells.Among these,we identified disulfiram(DSF),an old alcohol-abuse drug,as a potential inducer of cell death in ovarian cancer.Mechanistically,DSF treatment significantly reduced the expression of the anti-apoptosis marker Bcell lymphoma/leukemia-2(Bcl-2)and increase the expression of the apoptotic molecules Bcl2 associated X(Bax)and cleaved caspase-3 to promote human epithelial ovarian cancer cell apoptosis.Furthermore,DSF is a newly identified effective copper ionophore,thus the combination of DSF and copper was used to reduce ovarian cancer viability than DSF single treatment.Combination treatment with DSF and copper also led to the reduced expression of ferredoxin 1 and loss of Fe-S cluster proteins(biomarkers of cuproptosis).In vivo,DSF and copper gluconate significantly decreased the tumor volume and increased the survival rate in a murine ovarian cancer xenograft model.Thus,the role of DSF revealed its potential for used as a viable therapeutic agent for the ovarian cancer. | YAPING GAN TING LIU WEIFENG FENG LIANG WANG LI LI YINGXIA NING | 2023 | Oncology Research2023,31,3: | 2 |
| 7 | Longitudinal Measurement of Hemodynamic Changes within the Posterior Optic Nerve Head in Rodent Nonarteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy显示文摘ObjectiveTo assess the in vivo dynamic blood flow features of posterior optic nerve head (ONH) in rat model of nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (rNAION). MethodsrNAION was established with Rose Bengal and argon green laser in Sprague-Dawley rats. Fundus photography and fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) were performed to assess the dynamic changes of optic disc in morphology in 90 days and in blood perfusion in 3 hours after the induction of disease. Histological examinations were performed to evaluate the success of modeling. Thedynamic blood flow kinetics of posterior ONH in rNAION were measured by Laser Doppler Flowmetry (LDF) on the day 3, 7, 14, 21, and 40 after the disease induction. One-way ANOVA, Student'st-test and Bonferroni adjustment were used for multiple comparisons of kinetic measurements of blood flow. ResultsOptic disc edema and subsequent resolution associated with the development of optic disc pallor were observed in rNAION. FFA showed that the optic disc was hypofluorescence in the early phase and hyperfluorescence in the late phase. Histological studies suggested edema and loosened tissues of ONH, loss of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), optic nerve substance and gliosis. Compared to the naive rats, the blood flow kinetics of posterior ONH in rNAION significant reduced at each time point after modeling (F=175.06,P<0.0001). The reductions were specifically remarkable in 14 days after the disease induction (AllP<0.01). Conclusions Continuous blood perfusion reduction was found in rNAION, with significant alteration in 14 days after disease induction. | 8 | Silica nanocone array as a template for fabricating a plasmon induced hot electron photodetector显示文摘Plasmon induced hot electrons have attracted a great deal of interest as a novel route for photodetection and lightenergy harvesting. Herein, we report a hot electron photodetector in which a large array of nanocones deposited sequentially with aluminum, titanium dioxide, and gold films can be integrated functionally with nanophotonics and microelectronics. The device exhibits a strong photoelectric response at around 620 nm with a responsivity of 180 μA/W under short-circuit conditions with a significant increase under 1 V reverse bias to 360 μA/W. The increase in responsivity and a red shift in the peak value with increasing bias voltage indicate that the bias causes an increase in the hot electron tunneling effect. | 14 | Intensified inactivation of model and environmental bacteria by an atmospheric-pressure air-liquid discharge plasma compared with chlorination显示文摘Water-borne pathogenic bacteria are always the top priority to be removed through disinfection process in water treatment due to their threat to human health. It was necessary to develop novel disinfection methods since the conventional chlorine disinfection was inefficient in inactivating chlorine-resistant bacteria, inducing the viable but non-culturable(VBNC) bacteria and forming disinfection by-products(DBPs). In this study, the inactivation of four model strains including Gram-negative(G), Gram-positive(G) and environmental samples by atmospheric-pressure air-liquid discharge plasma(ALDP) was assessed systematically. The results showed that ALDP was superior in inactivating all of the samples compared with chlorination. During 10 min ALDP treatment, the Gbacteria were completely inactivated, and the Gone was inactivated by more than 4.61 logs. The inactivation of bacteria from a campus lake and a wastewater treatment plant effluent exceeded 99.82% and 97.78%, respectively. For G-bacteria, ALDP resulted in a much lower(10~2~10~3 times) levels of VBNC cells than chlorination. ALDP could effectively remove the chlorine-resistant bacteria. More than 96.41% of the intracellular DNA and 99.99% of the extracellular DNA were removed, whereas it was only 56.35% and 12.82% for chlorination. ALDP had a stronger ability to destroy cell structure than chlorination, presumably due to the existence of ROS( ·OH, ~1Oand O). GC-MS analysis showed that ALDP produced less DBPs than chlorination. | 15 | Cesarean section and risk of childhood leukemia: a systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘Background A large number of studies pointed that being delivered by cesarean section(CS)would affect the health outcomes of offspring,however,whether CS would affect the risk of childhood leukemia remained uncertain.This study conducted a meta-analysis to quantitatively evaluate whether being delivered by CS would influence the onset of childhood leukemia.Methods PubMed,Embase and Web of Science databases were searched from 3rd June,1950 to 13th October,2019 to identify the literature,which examined the relationship between CS and childhood leukemia.This study used Newcastle-Ottawa Scale to assess the quality of literature.Subgroup analyses were conducted on region,mode of delivery,design of the study and number of confounders adjusted.Egger's test and Begg's test were performed to evaluate possible publication bias.Results The pooled odds ratio(OR)estimates illustrated that children delivered by CS had a higher risk of developing leukemia[OR 1.10,95%confidence interval(CI)1.04-1.17,P=0.002]and lymphoblastic leukemia(OR 1.12,95%CI 1.03-1.23,P=0.009),while a significant association for myeloid leukemia was not observed(OR 1.05,95%CI 0.92-1.20,P=0.451).Results of subgroup analyses indicated that elective CS would increase the risk of childhood lymphoblastic leukemia(OR 1.16,95%CI 1.06-1.27,P=0.002).However,a statistical relationship between emergency CS and lymphoblastic leukemia was not observed(OR 1.07,95%CI 0.93-1.23,P=0.364).Conclusions CS would increase the risk of childhood lymphoblastic leukemia.It is worth noting that subgroup analyses shows that elective CS rather than emergency CS increases the risk of lymphoblastic leukemia in offspring. | Li-Li Jiang Yin-Yan Gao Wen-Bo He Ting Gan Hou-Qian Shan Xue-Mei Han | 2020 | World Journal of Pediatrics2020,16,5: | 1 |
| 16 | From interpenetrating polymer networks to hierarchical porous carbons for advanced supercapacitor electrodes显示文摘Hierarchical porous carbons (HPCs) are obtained via in-situ activation of interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) obtained from simultaneous polymerization of resorcinol/formaldehyde (R/F) and polyacrylamide (PAM). The hierarchically micro-, meso-and macroporous structure of as-prepared HPCs is attributed to the synergistic pore-forming effect of PAM and KOH, including PAM decomposition, KOH chemical activation, and a foaming process of potassium polyacrylate formed by partial hydrolysis of PAM in KOH aqueous solution. The typical HPC electrode with the highest surface area (2544 m2/g) shows a high specific capacitance of 261 F/g at 1.0 A/g and a superior rate capability of 216 F/g at 20 A/g in alkaline electrolyte. Moreover, the electrode maintains the capacitance retention of 90.8% after 10000 chargingdischarging cycles at 1.0 A/g, exhibiting long cycling life.
