Investigation of stability of a tunnel in a deep coal mine in China显示文摘Stability level of tunnels that exist in an underground mine has a great influence on the safety, production and economic performance of mines.Ensuring of stability for soft-rock tunnels is an important task for deep coal mines located in high in situ stress conditions.Using the available information on stratigraphy, geological structures,in situ stress measurements and geo-mechanical properties of intact rock and discontinuity interfaces,a three-dimensional numerical model was built by using 3DEC software to simulate the stress conditions around a tunnel located under high in situ stress conditions in a coal rock mass in China.Analyses were conducted for several tunnel shapes and rock support patterns. Results obtained for the distribution of failure zones, and stress and displacement felds around the tunnel were compared to select the best tunnel shape and support pattern to achieve the optimum stability conditions.Kulatilake P.H.S.W. 3An overview of cetacean strandings, bycatches and rescues along the western coast of the Taiwan Strait, China: 2010–2015显示文摘The analysis of cetacean strandings can provide fundamental information about species diversity and composition in a particular region. The present study collected and analyzed cetacean strandings, bycatches and rescues along the western coast of the Taiwan Strait, China, from 2010 to 2015. In total, 48 records, including 37 strandings, 8 bycatches and 3 rescues, involving 13 known species were collected. Among them, Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins(Sousa chinensis) and finless porpoises(Neophocaena phocaenoides) were the most common species, consisting of 31.3% and 25%, respectively. Notably, 10 out of the 48(20.8%) records were collected from the Pingtan Island and included 3 species of Mysticeti and 4 species of Odontoceti. Finally, we compared the cetacean species composition between the western and eastern coasts of the Taiwan Strait; 31 cetacean species occurred in the Taiwan Strait, indicating a relatively high cetacean diversity in this region. Systematic field surveys are urgently needed to explore the cetacean species composition, population stock and the related habitat status in the Taiwan Strait, which may improve conservation management in the future.ZHAO Liyuan ZHU Qian MIAO Xing XU Min WU Fuxing DAI Yufei TAO Cuihua MOU Jianfeng WANG Xianyan 2017Acta Oceanologica Sinica2017,36,12:1

Conditional Deletion of Foxg1 Alleviates Demyelination and Facilitates Remyelination via the Wnt Signaling Pathway in Cuprizone-Induced Demyelinated Mice显示文摘The massive loss of oligodendrocytes caused by various pathological factors is a basic feature of many demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system(CNS). Based on a variety of studies, it is now well established that impairment of oligodendrocyte precursor cells(OPCs) to differentiate and remyelinate axons is a vital event in the failed treatment of demyelinating diseases. Recent evidence suggests that Foxg1 is essential for the proliferation of certain precursors and inhibits premature neurogenesis during brain development. To date, very little attention has been paid to the role of Foxg1 in the proliferation and differentiation of OPCs in demyelinating diseases of the CNS. Here, for the first time, we examined the effects of Foxg1 on demyelination and remyelination in the brain using a cuprizone(CPZ)-induced mouse model. In this work, 7-week-old Foxg1 conditional knockout and wild-type(WT) mice were fed a diet containing 0.2% CPZ w/w for 5 weeks, after which CPZ was withdrawn to enable remyelination. Our results demonstrated that, compared with WT mice, Foxg1-knockout mice exhibited not only alleviated demyelination but also accelerated remyelination of the demyelinated corpus callosum. Furthermore, we found that Foxg1 knockout decreased the proliferation of OPCs and accelerated their differentiation into mature oligodendrocytes both in vivo and in vitro. Wnt signaling plays a critical role in development and in a variety of diseases. GSK-3 b, a key regulatory kinase in the Wnt pathway, regulates the ability of b-catenin to enter nuclei, where it activates the expression of Wnt target genes. We then used SB216763,a selective inhibitor of GSK-3 b activity, to further demonstrate the regulatory mechanism by which Foxg1 affects OPCs in vitro. The results showed that SB216763 clearly inhibited the expression of GSK-3 b, which abolished the effect of the proliferation and differentiation of OPCs caused by the knockdown of Foxg1. These results suggest that Foxg1 is involved in the proliferation and differentiation of OPCs through the Wnt signaling pathway. The present experimental results are some of the first to suggest that Foxg1 is a new therapeutic target for the treatment of demyelinating diseases of the CNS.Fuxing Dong Dajin Liu Feiyu Jiang Yaping Liu Xiuxiang Wu Xuebin Qu Jing Liu Yan Chen Hongbin Fan Ruiqin Yao 2021Neuroscience Bulletin2021,37,1:0
Early divergence and differential population histories of the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin in the Pacific and Indian Oceans显示文摘The currently recognized Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin occurs in estuaries and surrounding shallow waters from the South China Sea to the Asian coast of the Indian Ocean. However,a recent study suggested that the humpback dolphin from the Bay of Bengal may represent a distinct phylogenetic species. In this study,we sequenced 915-bp mtDNA segments from five geographic populations in both Chinese and Thai waters;together with previously published sequences, these data revealed that the ancestral Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin might have split during the transition from the Oligocene to Miocene(23.45 Mya,95%HPD:16.65–26.55 Mya),and then dispersed along the Pacific and Indian Ocean coasts of Asia.Genetic differentiation was detected between most of the examined populations, except for only a few pairwise populations in the northern South China Sea.Genetic differentiation/distance between the humpback dolphins from the northern and southern South China Sea met the sub-species threshold value proposed for marine mammals, whereas that between the humpback dolphins in the Pacific and the Indian Ocean was above the species threshold.Bayesian inference of historic gene flow indicated low but constant northward gene flow along the Indian Ocean coast;however, there was a recent abrupt increase in gene flow in the Pacific region, likely due to the shortening coastline at the low stand of sea level. Our results revealed that the current taxonomic classification of Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins may not reflect their phylogeography.Liyuan ZHAO Watchara SAKORNWIMON Wenzhi LIN Peijun ZHANG Rachawadee CHANTRA Yufei DAI Reyilamu AIERKEN Fuxing WU Songhai LI Kongkiat KITTIWATTANAWONG Xianyan WANG 2021Integrative Zoology2021,16,4:0
Impacts of global climate change on birds and marine mammals in Antarctica显示文摘Birds and marine mammals in Antarctica, especially penguins and seals, are top consumers and critical elements of the Southern Ocean ecosystem. As a region undergoing rapid global change, new challenges will be posed to the survival of these vertebrates species. Global climate change causes many alterations, such as ocean temperature rise, altered sea ice distribution, and abnormal climate events along with effects of intensive human activities, such as fishing. These not only directly affect the spatiotemporal distributions and population dynamics of Antarctic birds and marine mammals but also indirectly influence them via modification of their food resources. At present, the impact of climate change on birds and marine mammals in the Antarctica is focusing on a number of species in a few areas. Response mechanisms of these species are still very limited and therefore require further long-term and continuous monitoring and research.WU Fuxing DONE Lu ZHANG Yanyun ZHANG Zhengwang 2017Advances in Polar Science2017,28,1:0
Metallogenic model of the Shuangjianzishan Ag-Pb-Zn district,Northeast China:Revealed from integrated geophysical investigation显示文摘The Shuangjianzishan deposit in Inner Mongolia is a typical Ag-Pb-Zn deposit of the southern Great Xing’an Range.Proven reserves of Ag,Pb,and Zn in this deposit have reached the scale of super-large deposits, with favorable metallogenic conditions, strong prospecting signs, and high metallogenic potential. This paper reports a study involving integrated geophysical methods, including controlled-source audio-frequency magnetotelluric, gravity, magnetic, and shallow-seismic-reflection methods,to determine the spatial distribution of ore-controlling structures and subsurface intrusive rock for a depth range of<2000 m in the Shuangjianzishan ore district. The objective of this study is to construct a metallogenic model of the ore district and provide a scientific basis for the exploration of similar deposits in the deep and surrounding regions. We used three-dimensional inversion for controlled-source audio-frequency magnetotelluric data based on the limited memory quasi-Newton algorithm, and three-dimensional physical-property inversion for the gravity and magnetic data to obtain information about the subsurface distribution of ore-controlling structures and intrusive rocks.Under seismic reflection results, regional geology, petrophysical properties, and borehole information, the geophysical investigation shows that the Dashizhai group, which contains the main ore-bearing strata in the ore district,is distributed within a depth range of<1239 m,and is thick in the Xinglongshan ore block and the eastern part of the Shuangjianzishan ore block. The mineralization is spatially associated with a fault system characterized by NE-,NW-,and N-trending faults. The magnetic and electrical models identify large, deep bodies of intrusive rock that are inferred to have been involved in mineralization, with local shallow emplacement of some intrusions.Combining the subsurface spatial distributions of ore-bearing strata,ore-controlling faults, and intrusive rock,we propose two different metallogenic models for the Shuangjianzishan ore district, which provide a scientific basis for further prospecting in the deep regions of the ore district and surrounding areas.Yihao Wu Jiangtao Han Yunhe Liu Guoqing Ma Fuxing Han Yanchen Yang Lijia Liu Lei Guo Ye Guan Yinghui Zhang Zhenyu Guo Qian Mu 2022Geoscience Frontiers2022,13,2:0
