1Essential oils used in aromatherapy: A systemic review显示文摘Nowadays, use of alternative and complementary therapies with mainstream medicine has gained the momentum. Aromatherapy is one of the complementary therapies which use essential oils as the major therapeutic agents to treat several diseases. The essential or volatile oils are extracted from the flowers, barks, stem, leaves, roots, fruits and other parts of the plant by various methods. It came into existence after the scientists deciphered the antiseptic and skin permeability properties of essential oils. Inhalation, local application and baths are the major methods used in aromatherapy that utilize these oils to penetrate the human skin surface with marked aura. Once the oils are in the system, they remodulate themselves and work in a friendly manner at the site of malfunction or at the affected area. This type of therapy utilizes various permutation and combinations to get relief from numerous ailments like depression, indigestion, headache, insomnia, muscular pain, respiratory problems, skin ailments, swollen joints, urine associated complications etc. The essential oils are found to be more beneficial when other aspects of life and diet are given due consideration. This review explores the information available in the literature regarding therapeutic, medical, cosmetic, psychological, olfactory, massage aromatherapy, safety issues and different plants used in aromatherapy. 3Nitrogen in Relation to Photosynthetic Capacity and Accumulation of Osmoprotectant and Nutrients in Brassica Genotypes Grown Under Salt Stress显示文摘Different strategies of the application of nutrients are required to overcome the adverse effects of mustard (Brassica juncea L.) in response to NaCl stress. The objective of the present study was to determine if different added levels of nitrogen (N) in growth medium could alleviate the adverse effects of salt stress on photosynthetic capacity and accumulation of osmoprotectants and nutrients. 14 days mustard seedlings of salt-sensitive (cv. Chuutki) and salt-tolerant (cv. Radha) genotypes were fed with: (i) 0 mmol L-1 NaCl + 0 mg N kg-1 sand (control), (ii) 90 mmol L-1 NaCl + 30 mg N kg-1 sand, (iii) 90 mmol L-1 NaCl + 60 mg N kg-1 sand, (iv) 90 mmol L-1 NaCl + 90 mg N kg-1 sand and (v) 90 mmol L-1 NaCl + 120 mg N kg-1 sand. Under the condition of salinity stress, N application caused a significant ameliorative effect on both genotypes with respect to growth attributes [fresh weight (FW) and dry weight (DW)] and physio-biochemical parameters [percent water content (WC), net photosynthetic rate (PN), stomatal conductance (gs), total chlorophyll (Chl), carbonic anhydrase (CA) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA), nitrogen (N), potassium (K) and sodium (Na) contents, and K/Na ratio] and yield attributes (number of pods/plant, seeds/pod and seed yield/plant). The salt-tolerant genotype exhibited maximum value for growth, physio-biochemical and yield attributes at 60 mg N kg-1 sand than that of salt-sensitive genotype. 4Synthesis, docking and ADMET prediction of novel 5-((5-substituted-1-H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl) methyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothieno[3,2-c]pyridine as antifungal agents显示文摘A novel series of 5-((5-substituted-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)methyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothieno[3,2-c]pyridines 5(a–i) has been synthesized from thienopyridine hydrazide, substituted aromatic nitriles using 4-dimethylaminopyridine(DMAP) as a catalyst under microwave irradiation and evaluated for their in vitro antifungal activity. Compound 5g is found to be more potent against Candida albicans when compared with miconazole. Docking study of the newly synthesized compounds was performed, and results showed good binding mode in the active site of fungal enzyme P450 cytochrome lanosterol 14 ademethylase. ADMET properties of synthesized compounds were also analyzed and showed good drug like properties. The results of in vitro antifungal activity, docking study and ADMET prediction revealed that the synthesized compounds have potential antifungal activity and can be further optimized and developed as a lead compound.Jaiprakash N. 51,2,3-Triazole incorporated coumarin derivatives as potential antifungal and antioxidant agents显示文摘A series of novel ethyl-7-((1-(benzyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)methoxy)-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-carboxylates 8a-h as potential antifungal agents were synthesized via click chemistry. The antifungal activity was evaluated against five human pathogenic fungal strains, such as Candida albicans, Fusarium oxysporum, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger and Cryptococcus neoformans. Compound 8c, 8d, 8e and 8h were found to be equipotent against C. albicans when compared with miconazole and compound 8f was found to be two-fold more active compared with miconazole and equipotent to fluconazole against C.albicans. The coumarin-based triazole derivatives were also evaluated for antioxidant activity and compound 8a was found to be potent antioxidant when compared with standard drug. Furthermore,molecular docking study of the newly synthesized compounds was performed and results showed good binding mode in the active site of fungal C. albicans enzyme P450 cytochrome lanosterol 14 ademethylase. 6CAN catalyzed one-pot synthesis and docking study of some novel substituted imidazole coupled 1,2,4-triazole-5-carboxylic acids as antifungal agents显示文摘The present work describes a facile,one-pot three component synthesis of a series of 3-[(4,5-diphenyl-2-substituted aryl/heteryl)-1H-imidazol-1-yl]-1H-1,2,4-triazole-5-carboxylic acid derivatives M(1-15).Benzil,aromatic aldehydes and 3-amino-l,2,4-triazole-5-carboxylic acid was refluxed in ethanol using cerric ammonium nitrate(CAN) as a catalyst to give the title compounds in good yields.The compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antifungal and antibacterial activity.Compounds M1,M9,and M15 were found to be equipotent against Candida albicans when compared with fluconazole.Compounds M2.M5,and M14 showed higher activity against Streptococcus pneumoniae.Escherichia coli and Streptococcus pyogenes,respectively,compared with ampicillin.Docking study of the newly synthesized compounds was performed,and the results showed good binding mode in the active sites of C albicans enzyme cytochrome P450 lanosterol 14α-demethylase.The results of in vitro antifungal activity and docking study showed that synthesized compounds had potential antifungal activity and can be further optimized and developed as a lead compound.Anna Pratima G.Nikalje Mangesh S.Ghodke Firoz A.Kalam Khan Jaiprakash N.Sangshetti 2015Chinese Chemical Letters2015,26,1:3

9Interactive Effect of GA_3 ,N and P Ameliorate Growth, Seed and Fibre Yield by Enhancing Photosynthetic Capacity and Carbonic Anhydrase Activity of Linseed: A Dual Purpose Crop显示文摘Linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) is an important dual-purpose, industrial crop. Its seeds are used for the extraction of oil and stem for fibres. However, the production of linseed is not going parallel with the increasing demand of its products. The present work was carried out with an aim to find out whether exogenous application of gibberellic acid (GA3) with or without graded levels of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) could improve the performance of three linseed genotypes Parvati, Shekhar and Shubhra together with minimizing the costly fertilizer input and losses. Four combinations of N and P, viz., 0 mg N+0 mg P kg-1 soil (N0P0), N13.4 P4.46 , N26.8P8.94 and N40.2P13.4 were constituted. Half dose of each combination was applied basally at the time of sowing and remaining half dose was given at 40 d after sowing (DAS) as foliar spray along with 10-6 mol L-1 GA3 . Prior to sowing, the seeds of each linseed genotype were grouped in to two, one group of seeds was soaked in 0 mol L-1 GA3 (control) and the other group was soaked in 10-6 M GA3 solution, each for 8 hours. Treatments were comprised of (i) 0 mol L-1 GA3+N0P0 (T0 , control), (ii) 10-6 mol L-1 GA3 + N13.4P4.46 (T1), (iii) 10-6 mol L-1 GA 3 +N 26.8 P 8.94 (T2) and (iv) 10-6 mol L-1 GA3+N40.2P13.4 (T3). The crop performance was assessed in terms of growth, physiological and biochemical parameters at 60 and 75 DAS and yield attributes at harvest (175 DAS). The results showed a parallel increase in most of the parameters with increasing levels of N and P. However, application of 10-6 mol L-1 GA3 in association with N26.8P8.94 proved best, it enhanced seed yield, oil yield and fibre yield by 83.3, 97.3 and 78.7%, respectively accompanied with increase in net photosynthetic rate, carbonic anhydrase activity and dry matter accumulation. Among the genotypes tested, Shubhra performed best, while Parvati the least for most of the parameters studied. 10Identification of SNP and InDel variations in the promoter and 5′ untranslated regions of γ-tocopherol methyl transferase(ZmVTE4) affecting higher accumulation of α-tocopherol in maize kernel显示文摘Deficiency of vitamin-E or tocopherol causes neurological and cardiovascular disorders in humans. Though maize kernel is rich in total tocopherol, the level of α-tocopherol possessing the highest vitamin-E activity is low. Mutant allele of ZmVTE4 with deletion of 7 bp and 118 bp (0/0: most favorable haplotype) in 5′UTR and promoter region, respectively significantly enhances α-tocopherol in maize kernel than wild type haplotype (7/118).α- tocopherol estimation in 15 diverse inbreds revealed that mean α-/γ-tocopherol and α-/ total-tocopherol was much higher in genotypes with favorable haplotype (1.51 and 0.41) than unfavorable class (0.19 and 0.13), respectively. However even within favorable class,α- tocopherol ranged from 4.76 to 30.07 μg g 1. Sequence analysis of part of 5′UTR and promoter of ZmVTE4 among the genotypes with favorable haplotype revealed 14 SNPs (SNP1 to SNP14) and eight InDels (InDel1 to InDel8). SNP7 at 606 bp (G to A), and InDels viz., InDel1 (27 bp), InDel4 (27 bp) and InDel8 (14 bp) differentiated low and high α-tocopherol accumulating inbreds with favorable haplotype. 11Anxiolytic potential of ursolic acid derivative-a stearoyl glucoside isolated from Lantana camara L.(verbanaceae)显示文摘Objective:To investigate the anxiolytic activity of newly isolated compound by our lab called ursolic acid stearoyl glucoside(UASG) from the leaves of Lantana camam(L camam).Methods: Column chromatography was used to isolate UASG.Anxiolytic potential was experimentally proved and demonstrated through Elevated plus-maze,Open field and light and dark test. 13Humanized mice are susceptible to Salmonella typhi infection显示文摘Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi is a pathogen that only infects humans.Currently,there is no animal model for studying this pathogen.Recently,alymphoid RAG2^(-/-)/γc^(-/-) mice engrafted with human leukocytes,known as humanized mice,have been successfully utilized to develop experimental models for several human-specific viral infections,including HIV,human-like dengue fever and hepatitis C virus.Little is known about the usefulness and feasibility of the humanized mouse model for the study of human-specific bacterial pathogens,such as S.typhi.The aim of this study was to determine if Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi could establish productive infection in humanized mice.Here we report that intravenous inoculation of S.typhi into humanized mice,but not controls,established S.typhi infections.High bacterial loads were found in the liver,spleen,blood and bone marrow of mice reconstituted with human leukocytes,but not in the unreconstituted control mice.Importantly,S.typhi-infected humanized mice lost significant body weight,and some of the infected mice displayed neurological symptoms.Our data suggest,for the first time,that humanized mice are susceptible to S.typhi challenge and that this model can be utilized to study the pathogenesis of S.typhito develop novel therapeutic strategies.M Firoz Mian Elisabeth A Pek Meghan J Chenoweth Ali A Ashkar 2011Cellular & Molecular Immunology2011,8,1:2
