| 1 | Influence of genes,sex,age and environment on the onset of autoimmune hepatitis显示文摘The pathogenesis of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is complex. However,it is believed that a susceptible individual,owing to his genetic background,sex and age,can develop the disease following exposure to an environmental trigger. Autoimmune hepatitis does not follow a Mendelian pattern of inheritance; hence no single causative genetic locus has been identified. However,several genes,inside and outside the HLA locus,have been linked to an increased susceptibility to AIH. Epidemiological evidence also suggests that the sex and age of the patient plays a role in AIH pathogenesis as the disease onset occurs mainly in the two first decades of life and a higher disease incidence is observed in females. No environmental trigger has been identified,but several have been proposed,mainly viruses and xenobiotics. | 2 | Fungal diversity notes 367-490:taxonomic and phylogenetic contributions to fungal taxa显示文摘This is a continuity of a series of taxonomic papers where materials are examined,described and novel combinations are proposed where necessary to improve our traditional species concepts and provide updates on their classification.In addition to extensive morphological descriptions and appropriate asexual and sexual connections,DNA sequence data are also analysed from concatenated datasets(rDNA,TEF-a,RBP2 and b-Tubulin)to infer phylogenetic relationships and substantiate systematic position of taxa within appropriate ranks.Wherever new species or combinations are being proposed,we apply an integrative approach(morphological and molecular data as well as ecological features wherever applicable).Notes on 125 fungal taxa are compiled in this paper,including eight new genera,101 new species,two new combinations,one neotype,four reference specimens,new host or distribution records for eight species and one alternative morphs.The new genera introduced in this paper are Alloarthopyrenia,Arundellina,Camarosporioides,Neomassaria,Neomassarina,Neotruncatella,Paracapsulospora and Pseudophaeosphaeria.The new species are Alfaria spartii,Alloarthopyrenia italica,Anthostomella ravenna,An.thailandica,Arthrinium paraphaeospermum,Arundellina typhae,Aspergillus koreanus,Asterina | 3 | Effects of feeding yeast(Saccharomyces cerevisiae), organic selenium and chromium mixed on growth performance and carcass traits of hair lambs显示文摘Yeasts and organic minerals are used in diets to improve health, productive performance and some carcass characteristics of ruminants and non-ruminants. Thirty-two lambs(Pelibuey×Katahdin; BW=(30.55±1.67) kg; n=8) were used in a 56-d feeding experiment to study the effects of different levels of live yeast(Saccharomyces cerevisiae; yeast), selenium(Se) and chromium(Cr) mixed(Se-Cr), and a mixture of yeast-Se-Cr on growth performance and carcass traits. Animals were stratified by body weight(BW) and randomly assigned to one of four treatments: 1) control group(0.0 g kg–1 yeast); 2) yeast(1.50 g kg–1 dry matter intake(DMI) d–1); 3) Se-Cr premix(1.5 mg kg–1 DMI d–1 for each mineral); and 4) yeast-Se-Cr mixture. There were no treatment effects on final BW; whereas lambs fed Se-Cr or yeast-Se-Cr had higher(P<0.05) DMI than animals supplemented with only yeast. Average daily gain(ADG), gain:feed ratio, chop area, dorsal fat and carcass yield were similar(P>0.05) among treatment groups. In conclusion, supplementation with yeast, Se-Cr mixed or yeast-Se-Cr did not improve ADG, final BW, back fat content and carcass yield of growing of Pelibuey×Katahdin lambs. | 4 | Extramedullary plasmocytoma associated with a massive deposit of amyloid in the duodenum显示文摘We report a rare case of extramedullary plasmocytoma associated with a massive deposit of amyloid in the duodenum.A 72-year-old Japanese man was admitted to our hospital presenting with a 3-mo history of epigastric pain, vomiting and weight loss.On computed tomography(CT) a wall thickening of the fourth part of the duodenum was observed.Multiple biopsies obtained from the lesion showed inflltration of plasma cells and lymphocytes, but they were not conclusive.The patient underwent resection of the lesion and, on histopathological examination, the lesion consisted of a dense and diffuse inflltrate of plasma cells and a few admixed lymphocytes with reactive follicles extending to the muscular propria.An extensive deposition of amyloid was also observed.Immunohistochemical stains revealed that a few plasmacytoid cells showed λ light chain staining, though most were κ light chain positive.These cells also were positive for CD138 and CD56 but negative for CD20 and CD79.The flndings were consistent with extramedullary plasmocytomaassociated with a massive deposit of amyloid in duodenum.A subsequent workup for multiple myeloma was completely negative.The patient showed no signs of local recurrence or dissemination of the disease after 12 mo follow-up.Because of the association of plasmocytoma and amyloidosis, the patient must be followed up because of the possible systemic involvement of the neoplasm and amyloidosis in future. | Fabiana Pirani Carneiro Maria de Nazareth Machado Sobreira Lívia Bravo Maia Alesso Cervantes Sartorelli Luiz Eduardo de Almeida Prado Franceschi Mauro Brito Brando Bárbara Wosnjuk Calaca Fernando Silva Lustosa Joo Vieira Lopes | 2009 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,28: | 2 |
