| 2 | Antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of Streptococcus pneumoniae over 6 years at Gondar University Hospital, Northwest Ethiopia显示文摘Objective:To assess the magnitude and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns ofStreptococcus pneumoniaeisolates from various clinical specimens.Methods:A record based on retrospectivestudy was conducted at Gondar University Teaching Hospital from September 2007 to January 2012.All patients who visited Gondar University Hospital and provided clinical specimens(body fluids,discharge,swab and blood)for routine bacteriological culturing and antimicrobial susceptibilitytesting were taken for analysis.Clinical specimens were processed for bacterial culture accordingto the standard procedures.Antimicrobial susceptibility test for isolated organisms was doneusing agar disk diffusion method.The data were entered and analyzed using SPSS software version16 package.Results:One hundred and fifty threeStreptococcus pneumoniaewere isolated frompatients who visited Gondar University Teaching Hospital bacteriology laboratory for culture.Majority of the pneumococcal isolates were from inpatients[111(72.5%)],and 74(48.4%)were frombody fluids.Out of the total isolates,93(61%)were found to be resistant to at least one antibioticused for susceptibility testing.Forty eight(43.2%)of the isolates were multi-drug resistant(resistantto two or more drugs).The resistance rate noted for both ciprofloxacin 17(11.1%)and ceftriaxone15(9.8%)were alarming.Conclusions:High proportions of the isolates tend to be increasinglyresistant to the commonly prescribed drugs.The recommended drug of choice like ciprofloxacinand ceftriaxone were found to be less susceptible in the study area.Based on the findings,wetherefore recommend that antimicrobial agents should be inspected for acceptable activity beforethey are prescribed and administered empirically.Further study with a better design and surveyof antimicrobial susceptibility at large scale shoule be performed to draw advanced information. | Belay Anagaw Mucheye Gezachew Fantahun Biadgelgene Berhanu Anagaw Tariku Geleshe Birke Taddese Birhanu Getie Mengistu Endris Andargachew Mulu Chandrashekhar Unakal | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013，3，7： | 3 |
| 3 | Hepatitis C virus and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas:Metaanalysisof epidemiology data and therapy options显示文摘Hepatitis C virus(HCV) is a global health problem affecting a large fraction of the world's population: This virus is able to determine both hepatic and extrahepatic diseases. Mixed cryoglobulinemia, a B-cell 'benign' lymphoproliferative disorders, represents the most closely related as well as the most investigated HCVrelated extrahepatic disorder. Since this virus is able to determine extrahepatic [non-Hodgkin's lymphoma(NHL)] as well as hepatic malignancies(hepatocellular carcinoma), HCV has been included among human cancer viruses. The most common histological types of HCV-associated NHL are the marginal zone, the lymphoplasmacytic and diffuse large cell lymphomas. The role of the HCV in the pathogenesis of the B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders is confirmed also by the responsiveness of the NHL to antiviral therapy. The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of the recent literature and a meta analysis of the epidemiology data, to explain the role of HCV in the development of NHL's lymphoma. | 5 | Novel Biological Based Method for Robot Navigation and Localization显示文摘The capability and reliability are crucial characteristics of mobile robots while navigating in complex environments. These robots are expected to perform many useful tasks which can improve the quality of life greatly. Robot localization and decisionmaking are the most important cognitive processes during navigation. However, most of these algorithms are not efficient and are challenging tasks while robots navigate through complex environments. In this paper,we propose a biologically inspired method for robot decision-making, based on rat's brain signals. Rodents accurately and rapidly navigate in complex spaces by localizing themselves in reference to the surrounding environmental landmarks. Firstly, we analyzed the rats' strategies while navigating in the complex Y-maze, and recorded local field potentials(LFPs), simultaneously.The recorded LFPs were processed and different features were extracted which were used as the input in the artificial neural network(ANN) to predict the rat's decision-making in each junction. The ANN performance was tested in a real robot and good performance is achieved. | 17 | Functional trait profiles and diversity of trees regenerating in disturbed tropical forests and agroforests in Indonesia显示文摘A main question in restoration of degraded forests and forest landscapes recovering from logging and fire is what to expect from natural regeneration through surviving propagules in the soil or seed sources and associated dispersal agents from the surrounding landscape mosaic,as alternative to tree planting.Tree diversity in secondary forests may be high,but based on newcomer species of low wood density and long-distance,abiotic dispersal modes.We compiled and analyzed three pairs of case studies(totaling 815 plots and 11.8 ha)of secondary forests recovering from logging,fire and conversion to agroforest in Sumatra and Kalimantan(Indonesia)on mineral soils.Data on tree species diversity,wood density frequency distribution(indicative of successional status)and dispersal modes were compared with those of less disturbed comparator forests in the same landscapes.Relatively undisturbed lowland dipterocarp forest in Kalimantan had close to 200 species of trees(>10 cm diameter)at a 1-ha sample scale(and 450 at a 10-ha scale).After repeated fires a sample area of 2 ha was needed to reach the same species richness.Regulation-based logging had little impact on tree species richness.In rubber agroforest with low-intensity management beyond rubber planting,50 tree species were found at a 1-ha scale and close to 100 species in 3 ha.The Kalimantan forest after repeated fires had a markedly higher fraction of lowwood-density trees(40%),but otherwise,all forests sampled were similar in overall wood density profiles.Selectively logged forest managed by a local community(village forest)and rubber agroforest in Sumatra contained larger fractions of heavy-wood-density trees.The majority of trees(50%–70%)had birds,bats and primates as dispersal agents in all sites.Selectively logged forests had higher fractions of autochorous species(15%)compared to other sites.Anemochorous(wind-dispersed)species,especially Macaranga lowii,were most common(20%)in lowland dipterocarp forest.Comparison between secondary forests and agroforests showed the influence of farmer selection regarding what is allowed to grow beyond the pole stage.Wood density and seed dispersal profiles can be used as degradation indicators of species assemblages across various disturbance levels and types,as they reflect the habitat quality of the surrounding landscape mosaics. | Subekti Rahayu Sidiq Pambudi Dikdik Permadi Hesti L.Tata Endri Martini Saida Rasnovi Hani S.Nuroniah Roeland Kindt Mohamad Nugraha Sonya Dewi Meine van Noordwijk | 2022 | Forest Ecosystems2022，9，3： | 1 |
