1Polymorphisms of DNA repair genes XRCC1 and XRCC3, interaction with environmental exposure and risk of chronic gastritis and gastric cancer显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the association between polymorphisms XRCC1 Arg194Trp and Arg399Gln and XRCC3Thr241Met and the risk for chronic gastritis and gastric cancer, in a Southeastern Brazilian population.METHODS: Genotyping by PCR-RFLP was carried out on 202 patients with chronic gastritis (CG) and 160 patients with gastric cancer (GC), matched to 202 (C1) and 150(C2) controls, respectively.RESULTS: No differences were observed among the studied grou ps with regard to the genotype distribution of XRCC1 codons 194 and 399 and of XRCC3 codon 241. However, the combined analyses of the three variant alleles (194Trp, 399Gln and 241Met) showed an increased risk for chronic gastritis when compared to the GC group. Moreover, an interaction between the polymorphic alleles and demographic and environmental factors was observed in the CG and GC groups. XRCC1 194Trp was associated with smoking in the CG group,while the variant alleles XRCC1 399Gln and XRCC3241Met were related with gender, smoking, drinking and H pylori infection in the CG and GC groups.CONCLUSION: Our results showed no evidence of a rela-tionship between the polymorphisms XRCC1Arg194Trp and Arg399Gln and XRCC3 Thr241Met and the risk of chronic gastritis and gastric cancer in the Brazilian population, but the combined effect of these variants may interact to increase the risk for chronic gastritis,considered a premalignant lesion. 3Giant hepatic extra-gastrointestinal stromal tumor treated with cytoreductive surgery and adjuvant systemic therapy:A case report and review of literature显示文摘BACKGROUND Primary extra-gastrointestinal stromal tumors(E-GIST)of the liver are rare.The clinical presentation may range from asymptomatic to bleeding or manifestations of mass effect.Oncologic surgery followed by adjuvant therapy with imatinib is the standard of care.However,under specific circumstances,a cytoreductive approach may represent a therapeutic option.We describe herein the case of an 84-year-old woman who presented with a tender,protruding epigastric mass.Abdominal computed tomography scan revealed a large,heterogeneous mass located across segments III,IV,V,and VIII of the liver.The initial approach was transarterial embolization of the tumor,which elicited no appreciable response.Considering the large size and central location of the tumor and the advanced age of the patient,non-anatomic complete resection was indicated.Due to substantial intraoperative bleeding and hemodynamic instability,only a near-complete resection could be achieved.Histopathology and immunohistochemical staining confirmed the diagnosis of primary E-GIST of the liver.Considering the risk/benefit ratio for therapeutic options,debulking surgery may represent a strategy to control pain and prolong survival.CASE SUMMARY Here,we present a case report of a patient diagnosed with E-GIST primary of the liver,which was indicated a cytoreductive surgery and adjuvant therapy with imatinib.CONCLUSION E-GIST primary of the liver is a rare conditional,the treatment is with systemic therapy and total resection surgery.However,a cytoreductive surgery will be necessary when a complete resection is no possible.Michel Ribeiro Fernandes Caroline Lorenzoni Almeida Ghezzi Tomaz J M Grezzana-Filho Flávia Heinz Feier Ian Leipnitz Aljamir Duarte Chedid Carlos Thadeu Schmidt Cerski Marcio Fernandes Chedid Cléber RositoPinto Kruel 2021World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2021,13,3:3
4Assessing the relationship between the rumen microbiota and feed efficiency in Nellore steers显示文摘Background:Ruminants rely upon a complex community of microbes in their rumen to convert host-indigestible feed into nutrients.However,little is known about the association between the rumen microbiota and feed efficiency traits in Nellore(Bos indicus)cattle,a breed of major economic importance to the global beef market.Here,we compare the composition of the bacterial,archaeal and fungal communities in the rumen of Nellore steers with high and low feed efficiency(FE)phenotypes,as measured by residual feed intake(RFI).Results:The Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio was significantly higher(P<0.05)in positive-RFI steers(p-RFI,low feed efficiency)than in negative-RFI(n-RFI,high feed efficiency)steers.The differences in bacterial composition from steers with high and low FE were mainly associated with members of the families Lachnospiraceae,Ruminococcaceae and Christensenellaceae,as well as the genus Prevotella.Archaeal community richness was lower(P<0.05)in p-RFI than in n-RFI steers and the genus Methanobrevibacter was either increased or exclusive of p-RFI steers.The fungal genus Buwchfawromyces was more abundant in the rumen solid fraction of n-RFI steers(P<0.05)and a highly abundant OTU belonging to the genus Piromyces was also increased in the rumen microbiota of highefficiency steers.However,analysis of rumen fermentation variables and functional predictions indicated similar metabolic outputs for the microbiota of distinct FE groups.Conclusions:Our results demonstrate that differences in the ruminal microbiota of high and low FE Nellore steers comprise specific taxa from the bacterial,archaeal and fungal communities.Biomarker OTUs belonging to the genus Piromyces were identified in animals showing high feed efficiency,whereas among archaea,Methanobrevibacter was associated with steers classified as p-RFI.The identification of specific RFI-associated microorganisms in Nellore steers could guide further studies targeting the isolation and functional characterization of rumen microbes potentially important for the energy-harvesting efficiency of ruminants.Déborah Romaskevis Gomes Lopes Márcio de Souza Duarte Alex J.La Reau Ibrahim Zuniga Chaves Tiago Antônio de Oliveira Mendes Edenio Detmann Cláudia Braga Pereira Bento Maria Eugênia Zerlotti Mercadante Sarah Figueiredo Martins Bonilha Garret Suen Hilário Cuquetto Mantovani 2021Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2021,12,4:3
