| 1 | Relationship between Th17 immune response and cancer显示文摘Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide and epidemiological projections predict growing cancer mortality rates in the next decades.Cancer has a close relationship with the immune system and,although Th17 cells are known to play roles in the immune response against microorganisms and in autoimmunity,studies have emphasized their roles in cancer pathogenesis.The Th17 immune response profile is involved in several types of cancer including urogenital,respiratory,gastrointestinal,and skin cancers.This type of immune response exerts pro and antitumor functions through several mechanisms,depending on the context of each tumor,including the protumor angiogenesis and exhaustion of T cells and the antitumor recruitment of T cells and neutrophils to the tumor microenvironment.Among other factors,the paradoxical behavior of Th17 cells in this setting has been attributed to its plasticity potential,which makes possible their conversion into other types of T cells such as Th17/Treg and Th17/Th1 cells.Interleukin(IL)-17 stands out among Th17-related cytokines since it modulates pathways and interacts with other cell profiles in the tumor microenvironment,which allow Th17 cells to prevail in tumors.Moreover,the IL-17 is able to mediate pro and antitumor processes that influence the development and progression of various cancers,being associated with variable clinical outcomes.The understanding of the relationship between the Th17 immune response and cancer as well as the singularities of carcinogenic processes in each type of tumor is crucial for the identification of new therapeutic targets. | Hanna Santos Marques Breno Bittencourt de Brito Filipe Antônio França da Silva Maria Luísa Cordeiro Santos Júlio César Braga de Souza Thiago Macêdo Lopes Correia Luana Weber Lopes Nayara Silva de Macêdo Neres Rafael Santos Dantas Miranda Dórea Anna Carolina Saúde Dantas Lorena Lôbo Brito Morbeck Iasmin Souza Lima Amanda Alves de Almeida Maiara Raulina de Jesus Dias Fabrício Freire de Melo | 2021 | World Journal of Clinical Oncology2021，12，10： | 5 |
| 2 | Relationship between skin fold thickness and insulin resistance in the essential hypertensive patients in Vietnam显示文摘Previous studies reported a close relationship between obesity and insulin resistance in the essential hypertensive patients. Objective In this study, we examined the relationship between the skin fold thickness and insulin resistance then developed a formula to estimate the insulin resistance index according to the skin fold thickness in the essential hypertensive patients. Subjects and Methods Medical records of 80 patients (37 males, 43 females) were reviewed and the data were tabulated. Anthropometric indexes (including height, weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, and skins fold thickness at 5 fatty difference points on the Erdheim diagram), fasting plasma glucose and insulin concentration were recorded. The mean age was 57.0±9.2 years. The insulin resistance index was calculated following the Homeostasis Model Assessment (HOMA) formula. Results Compared with the group with BMI<23kg/m2, the group with BMI≥23 kg/m2 had higher fasting insulin concentration (8.85 ± 4.97 pmol/L vs 15.60 ± 8.70 pmol/L, P<0.001 ) and higher insulin resistance index in (2.15±1,24 vs 3.76±2.22, P<0.001). No significant difference in fasting plasma insulin concentration,insulin resistance index between male and female was observed (P>0.05). There was a positive correlation between skin fold thickness and the fasting insulin concentration and insulin resistance index. The skin fold thickness at point A8 had the best coefficient correlated with fasting plasma insulin(r=0.79, P<0.001) and insulin resistance index (r= 0.79, P < 0.001). | 4 | Epidemiology of upper gastrointestinal symptoms in Brazil(Epi Gastro):A population-based study according to sex and age group显示文摘AIM:To determine the prevalences of symptoms consistent with gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD)and dyspepsia in South America.METHODS:A telephone survey was conducted among adult owners of land-based telephones in S?o Paulo,Brazil,using previously validated computer-assisted sampling and survey protocols.The Portugueselanguage survey included(1)sociodemographic characteristics(e.g.,weight,height,smoking)and comorbidities;(2)dietary habits;(3)presence of symptoms consistent with GERD or dyspepsia within the prior 3mo;and(4)use of medications and other therapies to manage symptoms.Data were stratified post-hoc into three homogeneous geographical regions of S?o Paulo according to the Social Exclusion Indices of the districts and postal codes.Survey response data from each respondent were weighted by the numbers of adults and landline telephones in each household.The analyses were weighted to account for sampling design and to be representative of the S?o Paulo population according to city census data.RESULTS:Among 4570 households contacted,an adult from 3050(66.7%)agreed to participate.The nonresponse rate was 33.3%.The mean(SE)respondent age was 42.6(16.0)years.More than half of all respondents were women(53.1%),aged 18 through 49 years(66.7%),married or cohabitating(52.5%),and/or above normal-weight standards(i.e.,35.3%overweight and 16.3%obese).A total of 26.5%of women were perimenopausal.More than 20%of respondents reported highly frequent symptoms consistent with GERD(e.g.,gastric burning sensation=20.8%)or dyspepsia(e.g.,abdominal swelling/distension=20.9%)at least once per month.Prevalences of these symptoms were significantly(approximately 1.5-to 2.0-fold)higher among women than men but did not vary significantly as a function of advancing age.For instance,14.1%of women reported that they experienced stomach burning(symptom of GERD)at least twice per week,compared to 8.4%of men(P=0.012 byχ2 test).A total of 15.7%of women reported that they experienced abdominal swelling(symptom of dyspepsia)at least twice per week,compared to 6.4%of men(P<0.001byχ2 test).Despite frequent manifestations of GERD or dyspepsia,most(≥90%)respondents reported that they neither received prescription medications fromphysicians,nor took behavioral measures(e.g.,dietary modifications),to manage symptoms.CONCLUSION:Symptoms consistent with dyspepsia and GERD are prevalent in Brazil and represent major public-health and clinical challenges. | Maria do Rosário Dias de Oliveira Latorre Aline Medeiros da Silva Décio Chinzon Jaime N Eisig Telma RP Dias-Bastos | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014，20，46： | 2 |
