7On selection and scaling of ground motions for analysis of seismically isolated structures显示文摘A broader consensus on the number of ground motions to be used and the method of scaling to be adopted for nonlinear response history analysis(RHA) of structures is yet to be reached. Therefore, in this study, the effects of selection and scaling of ground motions on the response of seismically isolated structures, which are routinely designed using nonlinear RHA, are investigated. For this purpose, isolation systems with a range of properties subjected to bidirectional excitation are considered. Benchmark response of the isolation systems is established using large sets of unscaled ground motions systematically categorized into pulse-like, non-pulse-like, and mixed set of motions. Different subsets of seven to 14 ground motions are selected from these large sets using(a) random selection and(b) selection based on the best match of the shape of the response spectrum of ground motions to the target spectrum. Consequences of weighted scaling(also commonly referred to as amplitude scaling or linear scaling) as well as spectral matching are investigated. The ground motion selection and scaling procedures are evaluated from the viewpoint of their accuracy, efficiency, and consistency in predicting the benchmark response. It is confirmed that seven time histories are sufficient for a reliable prediction of isolation system displacement demands, for all ground motion subsets, selection and scaling procedures, and isolation systems considered. If ground motions are selected based on their best match to the shape of the target response spectrum(which should be preferred over randomly selected motions), weighted scaling should be used if pulse-like motions are considered, either of weighted scaling or spectral matching can be used if non-pulse-like motions are considered, and an average of responses from weighted-scaled and spectrum-matched ground motions should be used for a mixed set of motions. On the other hand, the importance of randomly selected motions in representing inherent variability of response is recognized and it is found that weighted scaling is more appropriate for such motions.Deepak R. 15Microbial electrosynthesis of acetate from CO_(2)in three-chamber cells with gas diffusion biocathode under moderate saline conditions显示文摘The industrial adoption of microbial electrosynthesis(MES)is hindered by high overpotentials deriving from low electrolyte conductivity and inefficient cell designs.In this study,a mixed microbial consortium originating from an anaerobic digester operated under saline conditions(∼13 g L^(−1)NaCl)was adapted for acetate production from bicarbonate in galvanostatic(0.25 mA cm^(−2))H-type cells at 5,10,15,or 20 g L^(−1)NaCl concentration.The acetogenic communities were successfully enriched only at 5 and 10 g L^(−1)NaCl,revealing an inhibitory threshold of about 6 g L^(−1)Na^(+).The enriched planktonic communities were then used as inoculum for 3D printed,three-chamber cells equipped with a gas diffusion biocathode.The cells were fed with CO_(2)gas and operated galvanostatically(0.25 or 1.00 mA cm^(−2)).The highest production rate of 55.4 g m^(−2) d^(−1)(0.89 g L^(−1)d^(−1)),with 82.4%Coulombic efficiency,was obtained at 5 g L^(−1)NaCl concentration and 1 mA cm^(−2)applied current,achieving an average acetate production of 44.7 kg MWh−1.Scanning electron microscopy and 16S rRNA sequencing analysis confirmed the formation of a cathodic biofilm dominated by Acetobacterium sp.Finally,three 3D printed cells were hydraulically connected in series to simulate an MES stack,achieving three-fold production rates than with the single cell at 0.25 mA cm^(−2).This confirms that three-chamber MES cells are an efficient and scalable technology for CO_(2)bio-electro recycling to acetate and that moderate saline conditions(5 g L^(−1)NaCl)can help reduce their power demand while preserving the activity of acetogens.Paolo Dessì Claribel Buenano-Vargas Santiago Martínez-Sosa Simon Mills Anna Trego Umer ZIjaz Deepak Pant Sebastia Puig Vincent O'Flaherty Pau Farras 2023Environmental Science and Ecotechnology2023,,4:0

17Wheat Varietal Investigation for the Hill Region of Nepal显示文摘Multilocation testing of the Coordinated Varietal Trial for Mid-hill and High Hill(CVT-MHH)of wheat genotypes were conducted at different hill research stations of Nepal Agricultural Research Council(NARC)during the normal planting season of 2012-13 and 2013-14.Twenty genotypes including two check varieties were included in Randomized Complete Block(RCB)design with three replications in the experiment.Data on the different yield attributing traits were recorded.Highly significant difference(p<0.01)among the genotypes for the days to heading,days to maturity,plant height,thousand grain weight and grain yield was observed in 2012-13.Wheat genotype BL 4061 had the highest grain yield with 3802 kg/ha followed by NL 1153(3736 kg/ha),NL 1159(3733 kg/ha),NL 1154(3674 kg/ha)and NL 1156(3462 kg/ha).In 2013-14 also a highly significant difference among the genotypes for all the recorded traits was observed and these genotypes were stable for the yield and yield attributing traits.The most promising genotype for the grain yield was NL 1153(5816 kg/ha)followed by NL 1178(5760 kg/ha),NL 1156(5454 kg/ha),NL 1159(5259 kg/ha)and NL 1179(5075 kg/ha).From the yield and other yield attributing trait wheat genotypes NL 1055,NL 1153,NL 1159,NL 1156 and NL 1179 need to be tested under farmers’field for further confirmation and release as variety.Deepak Pandey Nutan Raj Gautam Khem Raj Pant Dhruba Bahadur Thapa 2020NASS Journal of Agricultural Sciences2020,2,2:0
18Long-term open circuit microbial electrosynthesis system promotes methanogenesis显示文摘Microbial electrosynthesis(MES) can potentially provide a mean for storing renewable energy surpluses as chemical energy. However, the fluctuating nature of these energy sources may represent a threat to MES, as the microbial communities that develop on the biocathode rely on the continuous existence of a polarized electrode. This work assesses how MES performance, product generation and microbial community evolution are affected by a long-period(6 weeks) power off(open circuit). Acetogenic and H2-producing bacteria activity recovered after reconnection. However, few days later syntrophic acetate oxidation bacteria and H2-consuming methanogens became dominant, producing CH4 as the main product, via electromethanogenesis and the syntrophic interaction between eubacterial and archaeal communities which consume both the acetic acid and the hydrogen present in the cathode environment. Thus,the system proved to be resilient to a long-term power interruption in terms of electroactivity. 19Recent progress in the structure optimization and development of proton-conducting electrolyte materials for low-temperature solid oxide cells显示文摘This work reviews technologies that can be used to develop low-temperature solid oxide cells(LT-SOCs)and can be applied in fuel cells and electrolyzers operating at temperatures below 500℃,thus providing a more cost-effective alternative than conventional high-temperature SOCs.Two routes showing potential to reduce the operating temperature of SOCs to below 500℃ are discussed.The first route is the principal way to enhance cell performance,namely,structure optimization.This technique includes the reduction of electrolyte thickness to the nanometer scale and the exploration of electrode structure with low polarization resistance.The other route is the development of novel protonconducting electrolyte materials,which is in the frontier of SOCs study.The fundamentals of proton conduction and the design principles of commonly used electrolyte materials are briefly explained.The most widely studied electrolyte materials for LT-SOCs,namely,perovskitetype BaCeO_(3) -and BaZrO_(3) -based oxides,and the effect of doping on the physical-chemical properties of these oxide materials are summarized.Jia Song Yuvraj Y.Birdja Deepak Pant Zhiyuan Chen Jan Vaes 2022International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2022,29,4:0
