| 1 | Review on utilization of biochar for metal-contaminated soil and sediment remediation显示文摘Biochar is a carbon-neutral or even carbon-negative material produced through thermal decomposition of plant-and animal-based biomass under oxygen-limited conditions.Recently, there has been an increasing interest in the application of biochar as an adsorbent, soil ameliorant and climate mitigation approach in many types of applications.Metal-contaminated soil remediation using biochar has been intensively investigated in small-scale and pilot-scale trials with obtained beneficial results and multifaceted effects.But so far, the study and application of biochar in contaminated sediment management has been very limited, and this is also a worldwide problem. Nonetheless, there is reason to believe that the same multiple benefits can also be realized with these sediments due to similar mechanisms for stabilizing contaminants. This paper provides a review on current biochar properties and its use as a sorbent/amendment for metal-contaminated soil/sediment remediation and its effect on plant growth, fauna habits as well as microorganism communities. In addition, the use of biochar as a potential strategy for contaminated sediment management is also discussed, especially as regards in-situ planning. | 2 | Innovative backfilling longwall panel layout for better subsidence control effect-separating adjacent subcritical panels with pillars显示文摘In recent years,field trials of non-pillar longwall mining using complete backfill have been implemented successively in the Chinese coal mining industry.The objective of this paper is to get a scientific understanding of surface subsidence control effect using such techniques.It begins with a brief overview on complete backfill methods primarily used in China,followed by an analysis of collected subsidence factors under mining with complete backfill.It is concluded that non-pillar longwall panel layout cannot protect surface structures against damages at a relatively large mining height,even though complete backfill is conducted.In such cases,separated longwall panel layout should be applied,i.e.,panel width should be subcritical and stable coal pillars should be left between the adjacent panels.The proposed method takes the principles of subcritical extraction and partial extraction;in conjunction with gob backfilling,surface subsidence can be effectively mitigated,thus protecting surface buildings against mining-induced damage.A general design principle and method of separated panel layout have also been proposed. | Jialin Xu Dayang Xuan Changchun He | 2014 | International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2014,1,3: | 21 |
| 3 | Longwall surface subsidence control by technology of isolated overburden grout injection显示文摘Surface subsidence is a typical ground movement due to longwall mining, which causes a series of environmental problems and hazards. In China, intensive coal extractions are commonly operated under dense-populated coalfields, which exacerbates the negative subsequences resulted from surface settlement. Therefore, effective approaches to control the ground subsidence are in urgent need for the Chinese coal mining industry. This paper presents a newly developed subsidence control technology: isolated overburden grout injection, including the theory, technique and applications. Relevant procedures such as injection system design, grouting material selection, borehole layout, grout take estimation and injection process design are proposed. The applicability of this technology has been demonstrated through physical modelling, field measurements, and case studies. Since 2009, the technology has been successfully applied to 14 longwall areas in 9 Chinese coal mines. The ultimate surface subsidence factors vary from 0.10 to 0.15. | 4 | A quantitative analysis model of grid cyber physical systems显示文摘Conventional power systems are being developed into grid cyber physical systems(GCPS) with widespread application of communication, computer, and control technologies. In this article, we propose a quantitative analysis method for a GCPS. Based on this, we discuss the relationship between cyberspace and physical space, especially the computational similarity within the GCPS both in undirected and directed bipartite networks. We then propose a model for evaluating the fusion of the three most important factors: information, communication, and security. We then present the concept of the fusion evaluation cubic for the GCPS quantitative analysis model. Through these models, we can determine whether a more realistic state of the GCPS can be found by enhancing the fusion between cyberspace and physical space. | 5 | Assessing the capacity of biochar to stabilize copper and lead in contaminated sediments using chemical and extraction methods显示文摘Because of its high adsorption capacity, biochar has been used to stabilize metals when remediating contaminated soils; to date, however, it has seldom been used to remediate contaminated sediment. A biochar was used as a stabilization agent to remediate Cu-and Pb-contaminated sediments, collected from three locations in or close to Beijing. The sediments were mixed with a palm sawdust gasified biochar at a range of weight ratios(2.5%, 5%, and 10%) and incubated for 10, 30, or 60 days. The performance of the different treatments and the heavy metal fractions in the sediments were assessed using four extraction methods, including diffusive gradients in thin films, the porewater concentration, a sequential extraction, and the toxicity characteristic leaching procedure. The results showed that biochar could enhance the stability of heavy metals in contaminated sediments. The degree of stability increased as both the dose of biochar and the incubation time increased. The sediment p H and the morphology of the metal crystals adsorbed onto the biochar changed as the contact time increased. | 6 | Resources Conditions of Coalbed Methane Districts in China显示文摘The China National Administration of Coal Geology accomplished an assessment of coalbed methaneresources of China in 1988. The total amount of coalbed methane resources in China is 14336.944 billion m , occurring in recoverable coal seams and beneath weathering zones, with coalbed methane content equal to or higher than 4 m3 per ton and buried depths smaller than 2000 m, among which there are 967.51 billion m of predicted reserves and 13369.434 billion m of future reserves. The resources in coal reservoirs with methane content of more than 8 m per ton are 12444.087 billion m , and those with methane content between 4 to 8 m per ton are 1892.856 billion m . There are 35 districts in which the resources abundance is higher than 150 million m3 /km2 , 49 districts with the abundance between 50 million and 150 million m 3/km2 , and 31 districts with the abundance less than 50 million m3 /km2 . | 7 | Optical properties and cooling performance analyses of single-layer radiative cooling coating with mixture of TiO_(2) particles and SiO_(2) particles显示文摘Radiative cooling can achieve cooling effect without consuming any energy by delivering energy into outer space(3K) through'atmospheric window'(8–13 μm). Conventional radiative cooling coating with multi-layer structure was severely restricted during application due to its complex preparation process and high cost. In this study, a single-layer radiative cooling coating with mixture of TiO_(2) particles and SiO_(2) particles was proposed. The algorithm for calculating the radiative properties of the multi-particle system was developed. Monte Carlo ray-tracing method combined with that algorithm was used to solve the radiative transfer equation(RTE) of the single-layer radiative cooling coating with mixture of TiO_(2) particles and SiO_(2) particles.The effects of particle diameter, volume fraction and coating thickness on radiative cooling performance were analyzed to obtain the best radiative cooling performance. The numerical results indicated that the average reflectivity of the single-layer radiative cooling coating with mixture of TiO_(2) particles and SiO_(2) particles in the solar spectrum can reach 95.6%, while and the average emissivity in the 'atmospheric window' spectrum can reach 94.9% without additional silver-reflectance layer. The average reflectivity in the solar spectrum and average emissivity in the 'atmospheric window' spectrum of the single-layer radiative cooling coating with mixture of TiO_(2) particles and SiO_(2) particles can increase 4.6% and 4.8% compared to the double-layer radiative cooling coating. | 9 | Assessing the kinetic model of hydro-distillation and chemical composition ofAquilaria malaccensis leaves essential oil显示文摘This study aimed to model the kinetic of hydro-distillation of Aquilaria malaccensis leaves oil in order to understand and optimize the extraction process. In addition, this study, for the first time, aimed to identify the chemical compositions of the A. malaccensis leave-oil. By assessing both first-order kinetic model and the model of simultaneous washing and diffusion, the result indicated that the model of simultaneous washing and diffusion better describes the hydro-distillation mechanism of the essential oil from A. malaccensis leaves.The optimum time, solid to liquid ratio, and the heating power for extracting the highest amount of essential oil were found to be around 3 h, 1:10(g·ml-1), and 300 W respectively. Yellow essential oil with a strong smell and a yield of 0.05 v/w was extracted by hydro-distillation Clevenger apparatus. Chemical compounds of the essential oil were analyzed using gas chromatography–mass spectroscopy(GC/MS), which resulted in identification of 42 compounds that constitute 93% of essential oil.
