1Protist Interactions and Seasonal Dynamics in the Coast of Yantai, Northern Yellow Sea of China as Revealed by Metabarcoding显示文摘Facilitated by the high-throughput sequencing(HTS)technique,the importance of protists to aquatic systems has been widely acknowledged in the last decade.However,information of protistan biotic interactions and seasonal dynamics is much less known in the coast ecosystem with intensive anthropic disturbance.In this study,year-round changes of protist community composition and diversity in the coastal water of Yantai,a city along the northern Yellow Sea in China,were investigated using HTS for the V4 region of 18S rDNA.The interactions among protist groups were also analyzed using the co-occurrence network.Data analyses showed that Alveolata,Chlorophyta,and Stramenopiles are the most dominant phytoplanktonic protists in the investigated coastal area.The community composition displayed strong seasonal variation.The abundant families Dino-Group-I-Clade-1 and Ulotrichales_X had higher proportions in spring and summer,while Bathycoccaceae exhibited higher ratios in autumn and winter.Alpha diversities(Shannon and Simpson)were the highest in autumn and the lowest in spring(ANOVA test,P<0.05).Nutrients(SiO42−,PO43−),total organic carbon(TOC),and pH seemed to drive the variation of alpha diversity,while temperature,PO43−and TON were the most significant factors influencing the whole protist community.Co-variance network analyses reveal frequent co-occurrence events among ciliates,chlorophytes and dinoflagellate,suggesting biotic interactions have been induced by predation,parasitism and mixotrophy.FU Yingjun ZHENG Pengfei ZHANG Xiaoli ZHANG Qianqian JI Daode 2020Journal of Ocean University of China2020,19,4:3

5A New Species of the Genus Protobothrops(Squamata: Viperidae) from Southern Tibet, China and Sikkim, India显示文摘A new species of the genus Protobothrops Hoge & Romano-Hoge, 1983, was described from Jilong County, southern Tibet, China, and Chungthang, northern Sikkim, India. It differs from congeners by the following characters: 1) relatively large body size(total length up to 1510 mm); 2) dorsal scale rows 25–25–19; 3) except for the smooth outermost row, dorsal scales are weakly keeled; 4) relatively high number of ventral(198–216) and subcaudal(65–76 pairs) scales; 5) 7–8 supralabials; 6) 11 to 13 infralabials; 7) dorsal head uniform dark brown, laterally a reddish-brown obscure postocular streak; 8) dorsum of trunk and tail olive, with distinct black edged red brown transverse bands across the body and tail; and 9) eye from bright brown and reddish brown to mildly brown. 6Salinity Acclimation Induces Reduced Energy Metabolism,Osmotic Pressure Regulation and Transcriptional Reprogramming in Hypotrichida Ciliate Gastrostyla setifera显示文摘Coastal and estuarine protists are frequently exposed to salinity undulation.While the tolerance and stress responses of microalgae to salinity have been extensively studied,there have been scarce studies on the physiological response of heterotrophic protists to salinity stressing.In this study,we investigated the physiological response of the heterotrophic ciliate Gastrostyla setifera to a salinity of 3,via a transcriptomic approach.The first transcriptome of genus Gastrostyla was obtained utilizing a group of manually isolated ciliate individuals(cells)and RNA-seq technique.The completeness of the transcriptome was verified.Differentially expressed gene(DEG)analysis was performed among the transcriptomes of G.setifera acclimated in saline water(salinity 3)and those cultured in fresh water.The results demonstrated a significant alternation in gene transcription,in which the ciliate exhibits a transcripttomic acclimation in responding salinity stressing.The up-regulated DEGs were enriched in the pathways of cytoskeleton proteins,membrane trafficking,protein kinases and protein phosphatases.These may represent enhanced functions of ion transport,stress response and cell protections.Pathways involved in energy metabolism and biosynthesis were markedly down-regulated,reflecting decreased cell activity.Particularly,we detected significantly down-regulated genes involved in several pathways of amino acid catabolism,which may lead to accumulation of amino acids in the ciliate cell.Amino acid could act as compatible solutes in the cytoplasm to maintain the osmotic balance in saline water.Overall,this work is an initial exploration to the molecular basis of the heterotrophic protist responding to salinity stressing.The result sheds light on the mechanisms of enhancement of cell protection,reduction of cell activity,and osmotic pressure regulation in ciliates acclimated to salinity.JI Xin BI Luping ZOU Songbao LI Wenlu JI Daode ZHANG Qianqian 2024Journal of Ocean University of China2024,23,2:0
7An Improved Honey Badger Algorithm through Fusing Multi-Strategies显示文摘TheHoney Badger Algorithm(HBA)is a novelmeta-heuristic algorithm proposed recently inspired by the foraging behavior of honey badgers.The dynamic search behavior of honey badgers with sniffing and wandering is divided into exploration and exploitation in HBA,which has been applied in photovoltaic systems and optimization problems effectively.However,HBA tends to suffer from the local optimum and low convergence.To alleviate these challenges,an improved HBA(IHBA)through fusing multi-strategies is presented in the paper.It introduces Tent chaotic mapping and composite mutation factors to HBA,meanwhile,the random control parameter is improved,moreover,a diversified updating strategy of position is put forward to enhance the advantage between exploration and exploitation.IHBA is compared with 7 meta-heuristic algorithms in 10 benchmark functions and 5 engineering problems.The Wilcoxon Rank-sum Test,Friedman Test and Mann-WhitneyU Test are conducted after emulation.The results indicate the competitiveness and merits of the IHBA,which has better solution quality and convergence traits.The source code is currently available from:http://gffzz188fe103f8f1460asx95bvnx0vxcv6w6n.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/zhaotao789/IHBA.Zhiwei Ye Tao Zhao Chun Liu Daode Zhang Wanfang Bai 2023Computers, Materials & Continua2023,76,8:0

10Observation and analysis of morphology abnormalities in development of Oryzias melastigma embryos显示文摘Fish embryos are widely used as models in toxicology,drug development,and human disease research because of their high sensitivity,observability,and operability,providing the basis for an in-depth understanding of the embryogenesis.Increasing studies have indicated that birth defects are hereditary.In this study,we used Oryzias melastigma as a model to conduct a study of 185-day embryogenesis and observed self-induced non-pathological abnormal embryogenesis.O.melastigma experienced pre-puberty stage,adolescence stage,and senescence stage,and individuals produced up to 102 eggs per day.However,the fecundity was markedly reduced during the senescent stage.During the active egg and blastodisc stages,pseudo-fertilization and pseudo-blastocysts were observed.During cleavage at the 4-to 32-cell stages,we observed blastomeres separation or dislocation.Excessively separated blastomeres formed double blastoderms,eventually resulting in conjoined twins.During the blastula stage,we observed abnormally increased cell volume,narrowed and elongated blastocysts,and abnormally coated blastoderms.At the organogenesis stage,we observed abnormal numbers of Kupff er’s vesicles and conjoined twins.Abnormality in the location and number of oil droplets were observed in various development stages.Abnormal development was more commonly observed in fertilized eggs produced by broodstock in pre-puberty or senescence stages,which is probably related to the age of fish and the egg quality.This study can provide the materials for comparative analysis in toxicological and molecular studies of O.melastigma,and may provide evidence for other economic fish that produce sticky eggs.Jingjing SONG Haiyi WU Kaikai LIU Wendan CHI Shanshan GE Zhipeng ZHANG Mingqi WANG Yi YU Daode YU 2021Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2021,39,4:0

12Metagenomic Analysis of Mangshan Pit Viper (Protobothrops mangshanensis) Gut Microbiota Reveals Differences among Wild and Captive Individuals Linked to Hibernating Behaviors显示文摘Gut microbiota play important roles in the immunity,digestion,and energy meta bolism of their reptile hosts.Mangshan pit viper(Protobothrops mangshanensis)is a critically endangered snake species that is a Class I national protected species in China.Little is known regarding the relationship between P.mangshanensis and their gut microbial communities.In this study,the gut microbiota of wild P.mangshanensis individuals,artificially hiberna ting captive individuals,and non-hibernating captive individuals were compared across nine samples.Comparative shotgun metagenomic analysis was used to investigate the taxonomic composition,diversity,and function of P.mangshanensis gut microbial communities and assess whether their gut microbiomes were affected by their living environments and captivity conditions.The dominant phyla within P.mangshanensis gut microbial communities were Proteobacteria(65.55%),Bacteroidetes(15.97%),and Firmicutes(8.11%).Enriched functional pathways within the gut microbiota included meta bolism(54.9%),environmental information processing(9.67%),and genetic information processing(9.37%).Wild snake gut communities exhibited higher microbial diversity than the other two groups.The gut microbiomes of wild and hibernating captive snakes may be more reflective of healthy intestinal homeostasis than that in nonhibernating snakes.Specifically,non-hibernating snakes exhibited increased levelsof potentially pathogenic populations and functional specialization within gut microbial communities.Thus,different livingenvironments and captivitymethodsmay correspond to major shifts in microbiota composition,diversity,and function within P.mangshanensis.This study provides important insights to help guide the conservation of P.mangshanensis,while also carrying broad implications for our understanding of the effects of living environments and non-hibernating captivity conditions on the gut microbiota of snakes.Bing ZHANG Xiangyun DING Jianping JIANG Linhai LI Daode YANG 2022Asian Herpetological Research2022,13,4:0

14Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Surface Micro Defect Detection Model Based on Residual Network with Novel Attention Mechanism显示文摘Printed Circuit Board(PCB)surface tiny defect detection is a difficult task in the integrated circuit industry,especially since the detection of tiny defects on PCB boards with large-size complex circuits has become one of the bottlenecks.To improve the performance of PCB surface tiny defects detection,a PCB tiny defects detection model based on an improved attention residual network(YOLOX-AttResNet)is proposed.First,the unsupervised clustering performance of the K-means algorithm is exploited to optimize the channel weights for subsequent operations by feeding the feature mapping into the SENet(Squeeze and Excitation Network)attention network;then the improved K-means-SENet network is fused with the directly mapped edges of the traditional ResNet network to form an augmented residual network(AttResNet);and finally,the AttResNet module is substituted for the traditional ResNet structure in the backbone feature extraction network of mainstream excellent detection models,thus improving the ability to extract small features from the backbone of the target detection network.The results of ablation experiments on a PCB surface defect dataset show that AttResNet is a reliable and efficient module.In Torify the performance of AttResNet for detecting small defects in large-size complex circuit images,a series of comparison experiments are further performed.The results show that the AttResNet module combines well with the five best existing target detection frameworks(YOLOv3,YOLOX,Faster R-CNN,TDD-Net,Cascade R-CNN),and all the combined new models have improved detection accuracy compared to the original model,which suggests that the AttResNet module proposed in this paper can help the detection model to extract target features.Among them,the YOLOX-AttResNet model proposed in this paper performs the best,with the highest accuracy of 98.45% and the detection speed of 36 FPS(Frames Per Second),which meets the accuracy and real-time requirements for the detection of tiny defects on PCB surfaces.This study can provide some new ideas for other real-time online detection tasks of tiny targets with high-resolution images.Xinyu Hu Defeng Kong Xiyang Liu Junwei Zhang Daode Zhang 2024Computers, Materials & Continua2024,78,1:0
